Watch the Booze β Most people donβt realize how many calories there are in drinks and think, βI just had a couple of drinks.β But that can be more calories than an entire meal. The old trick of alternating cocktails with water really does help keep calories in check.
Be Choosy β Holiday indulgences should merit their calories. If a cookie just came out of the oven and itβs warm and gooey, have one. But if itβs a tasteless, store-bought leftover, donβt bother.
I think a glass of water in between drinks is a good way to cut back, and I often do that. I also am picky about the kind of holiday treats I choose.
How about you? Any other tips?

I had one earlier this evening, and it was worth every point and then some. (I did take a small one; it was like a bar cookie, only it was made in a round pan, so I had a pie-shaped piece which was smaller than many of the other pieces I noticed.)

My daughter and I were talking about booze recently - one new year's resolution will deal with that. As for the sweets...have had a buche de noel cake on the dining room table as a decoration BUT we are not eating it - thus saving calories...not worth the calories so will eventually toss it.

The second tip, deciding if an item is really worth it and special is a treat tip and works other times as well. It's one that I apply in other situations as well (food items in staff lounge, for example). I think this also works well in conjunction with what was mentioned yesterday - checking out what's available first and making decisions about what is special.
I don't drink alcohol, however, I think there are some aspects that might apply to other things like punch, hot cider, pop and so on. Easy for liquid calories to add up without thinking of it.

Good Morning,
I don't drink never have so don't have those calories to deal with but I do like punch, Wassil, etc. I quit sodas even the diet ones two years ago NYD so don't have that to deal with either. I drink water throughout the day for my drink of choice just plain nothing added to it.
Now the candy and sweets is another thing I am constantly having to tell myself no there and to limit myself and to say no to store bought and yes in moderation to the homemade.

I have a glass of beer when we go out to play darts. Generally 3 times a month. I track it (when I'm tracking). The others I play with have 2 and sometimes 3 beers. Not worth the calories for me.
I find the best way to stop myself from overindulging is to figure out the calories/points BEFORE eating it. Many things are so 'expensive' that it will cause me to say no.

Not tempted by the alcohol but treats are another story. I like Cindy's tip to pretrack so that I know exactly how much it will cost! That helps me say no thanks.

Happy Friday everyone. I am not a big drinker. I had 1 glass of wine at Thanksgiving. Water and ice tea at Christmas. (there was Martinelli sparkling cider for Christmas, but I don't really care for it and didn't have any.)
Ooey and gooey cookies are the best. I actually bake just a few from frozen dough so as to portion control.
I am going to an appetizer pot-luck/ game night on New Years Eve. I am taking a veggie tray with hummas. Will try to stay away from the chips !

I also am not a big drinker. I am a water or coffee girl, but the treats do call to me like a Siren. I have been fighting the treats and intend to get back to meetings next week...
On New Year's Eve we will be served family style, so I will be able to pick the better options...
