Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, playing a musical instrument, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store ,researching a new quilt shop, attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity- even visiting us here to join in our posts!! There are plenty of days in which the closest we get to crafting is a visit here, so even if you have no time to craft, we would love to hear from you. And one of us is never going to buy a fat quarter bundle again! We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion! So glad you are here!! Please feel free to stop in and say hello!!

Gee, the last week of January?? Just a bit mind boggling .
I started laying out the fabrics for the temperature quilt, and knowing that I have a trip to Joanns planned early this week will pick up the remaining fabrics I need for the quilt. Of course I have to finish the baby quilt first.
See ya later…hope you slept well, good morning to all who stop in to visit and do not say hello

Hello - Hope you are both having a good day and nice weather. It's a bit milder here and sunny, looks like the end of the week will be in the 60s! Ginny - Your quilt is so pretty. Your blocks go really well with the border fabric and those flowers are cute. The quilt has a nice "soft" feel to it. Hope your DD likes it. Ruth - Hope you were able to get some of the groceries Walmart didn't have. I went up to my house today to check on things and had to clear some snow from the steps and walk. I couldn't get it all cleared but I'm hoping the next few days of warmer weather will melt everything. I'm not sure I'll do any quilting today, just not in the mood - but I'll see. Hope you get to do some crafting. Take care

CJ- hoping that those warmer temps melt all the snow in your area so that you do not have to deal with it anymore!! Was the house ok? Have you had any luck finding a company to buy your house? I mention that because DSIL has a rental house….its in a rather sketchy area and is not a nice piece of property at all. (Dd told me about it, I have never seen it). Apparently his tenant has trashed the place, broken windows, the sheet rock has holes. And there is evidence of insects in the basement…anyway, DSIL has had 2 realtors look at it. They are telling him to sell it “as is”. Apparently the real estate market has switched and now buyers are expected to pay for improvements to homes that they buy (when my mom’s house was on the market the cost to make repairs put the seller at the mercy of picky buyers). Were you able to get any quilting time in, or was today just a day of rest?
Ruth, hope that your day went well..and as CJ mentioned did you pick up the items from another source that Walmart did not have?
Long day…but I am back a bit early. DD did look at the quilt and she either lies like a rug or she really loves the quilt. We decided the binding will be out of the same fabric as the outer border. The fabrics are all part of a grouping, so they are meant to go together. I hope to get to Joanns to pick up the batting.

Ginny, your quilt is beautiful and it's something your dgd can use all her life. I love the baby quilts with fabrics that are strictly for babies. They're so cute but how many years can a child use one of those.
CJ, sorry you had to clean snow from the other house again. I'm glad you're having a warm spell there. The last two or three days here and also tday have been in the 40's and I'm happy with that. All this week after tomorrow temps will be in the high 30's which is not bad either. I'm having a day like yours in that I don't feel at all like putting crochet pieces together or doing the embroidery for the facial features.
I did do a bit of organizing and cleaning in my kitchen but have a lot more to do. Maybe tomorrow.
Ginny, did you see that the week before last we had way over 500 views. I wonder who all the people are that stop in like that.
No I didn't get replacement items of the things that Walmart didn't send. I didn't need them right away and I can always make bread myself. Today though we found that the very expensive eggs we bought....prices of eggs seem to be on the rise again...4 of those eggs were cracked. I told dh to complain about that since it's his account. Bad enough to pay a quite high price for a dozen eggs but when you're left with only 8 good ones It's just not acceptable. And we haven't even checked the second dozen yet.
Well I'll quit complaining and try to motivate myself to do some work on the crochet items

Ruth, that is awful that you had 4 cracked eggs in the first dozen…absolutely unacceptable. No matter whose account it is, I think I would contact the store. Were you able to get any crochetting in? No I did not notice that there were over 500 views…wow we are popular!
CJ, how was your night?
Got DGD#2 with me today in addition to her little brother. I had gotten her a tie quilt kit for Christmas, and today will be the perfect day to get that made. I also will be looking at the fabrics for the temperature quilt.. just to make sure that I have everything I need to make it when I start. Another friend suggested that I wait till the end of each month to make the previous months “house”- which is a more efficient way to cut the fabrics (assuming that the daily temperatures are all in a similar range). I thought it was a great idea.
See ya later. Ginny

Hello Ginny - Hope you are enjoying the grandkids today. For those coordinating fabrics you used in your quilt, sometimes I find them even harder to use as far as placement in a quilt, you did a nice job in yours. That's a good idea to make the temperature quilt once a month if you like working on things that way. I like to work ahead a bit and then work on things weekly, that seems to go better for me. Ruth - Sorry to hear about the cracked eggs I'm glad you can make some bread if you want it. I've been trying to use up the eggs I bought several weeks ago. I made a recipe called "Small Batch Chocolate Chip Cookies" the other day and it came out really good - making 12 cookies. Today I made some bread pudding using cinnamon raisin english muffins and it came out good too. I have one more recipe I want to try "Vanilla Muffins" and I hope they turn out well - I might put chocolate chips in them. Lots of sugar and calories, and this is why I only buy eggs once a year I didn't do any quilting yesterday, I'm going to try to finish sewing the binding on the mantel runner today. The rest of the week will probably be busy with the movers, but I might try to do something. As far as the reads on this thread, I do check several times a day to see if either of you have posted and I know that probably adds up to 20 or more reads a week. I don't know if either of you saw it but last week one day there was a spam post on an old thread in here. I reported it and the moderators deleted it pretty quickly. But you never know if it's spammers clicking in here and making it looks like more people are reading than really are. Just a thought. Take care

Same here, CJ, I usually check a couple or a few times also so our checking probably adds up to a lot of those views listed. Ginny probably does the same. I really love bread pudding but dh doesn't like it so I never make it. I'll be over soon to share yours . The choc chip cookies sound really good also so I might make some of those today. I'm planning on making some more foccaicia bread today too at dh's request.I hope you can get the mantel runner finished. It's going to look wonderful. I sure with I had a mantel. There was one in one of the houses we looked at buying in Indiana but it was just too far from ds' home and it had a couple issues I didn't want to deal with. I'm praying that the moving of your furniture goes well and you have a good time getting everything where you want it. Ginny, that probably is a good idea to do your temp quilt blocks at the end of the month. Here we have such extremes of temperature that I'd probably have to make daily blocks . Have a good time with dgd making the quilt. Another weird thing with Walmart. They shipped the oatmeal I ordered that they claimed they didn't have in the store. I know that companies get a special rate on shipping but still, seems like a poor choice to ship something like one container of oatmeal. I did work on putting pieces together on my dgc's crochet items but still have a ways to go so I'd better get busy. And speaking of Qal's, after I finish these things and dh's blanket I have to get busy and work on the first two parts of my CAL.They send the parts on the first of each month and by Christmas you're supposed to have a completed Christmas theme afghan.I should really do the one I started a couple years ago instead of this new one but the old one was made with bobbles and this new one is mosaic which I like better.

Ruth, I think Walmart has some strange contract with those they use for shipping and the other factor is the distribution center that products you ordered originate from. I know how non sensical it all seems why waste the time effort and packing (plus the gas of the delivery service) to ship a container of oatmeal. But I have similar experiences with both Walmart and Amazon… Well, I am glad that you got your oatmeal…. Once I ordered singer sewing machine needles (which I added to the order to get free shipping, and did not need them all that badly). I well remember Fed Ex delivering a package with only sewing machine needles in them on a Sunday. What a laugh. Your new CAL sounds like fun, and , well why not! I hope you enjoy working on it after you finish the projects you are working on already. How did your focaccia bread turn out? I enjoy it….Dh did not so I only made it once. I am sure yours turned out great.
CJ- seems as though the light is at the end of the tunnel and it’s not the train coming at you. I am really hoping that you have everything moved by the end of the week- and hopefully the weather will be great to do that. Once you get everything moved, Wow you have been busy baking! I will have to look for a small batch chocolate chip cookie recipe, that sounds so good. Have you made this before? And the bread budding sounds great too…I had bread pudding about 4 months ago when I took Jane out for lunch. Not something I would eat ever today, but certainly good. Great to hear that you are using your new kitchen…. Great smells coming from the oven sure do make a place feel more like home.
Yikes, the grandkids. DGS #2 was a bit challenging today, but I honestly do not put up with his nonsense and I think he knows that by now. DGD was a joy to be with. She is a funny little girl…and I miss her now that she is in school full time. (Honestly I think DGS was a bit challenging because he was excited to have her home. So my crafting for today was helping DGD with her tied quilt kit that I gave her for CHristmas (while DGS napped). And I did get to Joanns to pick up the batting I ordered and most of the fabrics for the temperature quilt. Thankfully the fabric was on sale, and DS gave me a gift card .
Well, forgive me but it’s only once in a while that I check to see if anyone else posted. I post when I can….and if neither of you have posted will just leave a short hello.
Long day today….actually this whole week is long.
See ya tomorrow.

Ginny, sorry to hear that dgs #2 was a challenge. Maybe he was either,as you said, excited about his sister being there, or he didn't want to share you with her.
I made the foccacia then also made choc chip cookies. I used the original Nestle's toll house cookie recipe and they didn't turn out well at all.So now it's time for me to get back to crocheting the things I want to have done by month end which, as you know, is not very far away now at all.

Ruth - well i am sure that your focaccia bread turned out wonderfully. What went wrong with the cookies? I ask because I have struggled for years with that recipe, while the cookies taste ok I am usually not pleased with the consistency. I wonder how CJ’s cookies turned out. I do have another recipe that DD#1 uses (it’s her mother in laws recipe) and I do like that the recipe does not flatten too much, the cookies keep their shape. Did you get some crocheting in last night? We know that you want to get those items completed to mail them to your beloved grand kids. Have you gotten any new pictures of the little baby recently?
CJ-I am hoping that your movers can get everything taken care of for you in the next few days and that weather is not a factor. For my area there is rain predicted over the next day or two..not a lot…
Work called me this am - I had hoped to sleep a little bit longer. Think this morning I will take the batting out of the package to let it rest, and hope to get to making a quilt sandwich ( or at least start) in the next day or so.

Hello - Hope you are both having a nice day and good weather. It's cloudy here, but a lot milder. Unfortunately, it's supposed to rain when the movers are coming Most of what is being moved is wood furniture, but I do have two upholstered chairs that I wouldn't want to get wet. I'm sure they know how to keep everything covered and dry. Ginny - I'm glad your DGD had a good time making the quilt. Hope you can get your quilt sandwich made in the next few days. Ruth - It's nice that you received the oatmeal, even if it was strange how it was sent. Hope you're able to get to the CAL soon. Here's a link to the recipe for the small batch cookies. Sorry for all the scrolling you'll have to do to get to the recipe near the bottom. A few things I did differently were that I used margarine instead of butter, I just prefer it. And I didn't freeze the cookie dough for 10 mintues, but I did put it in the refrigerator for that time. I just don't see a need to freeze the dough, the cookies did not spread that much. Also I only used 1/4 cup of chocolate chips to save calories, and that was plenty for this recipe. I was able to get 12 cookies instead of the 8-10 the recipe says. Hope you enjoy it if you try it: www.livewellbakeoften.com/small-batch-chocolate-chip-cookies/I went up to my house again today, and last night I put my sewing things away, so I won't be working on anything for a few days. The new Moda block came out today and also Pat Sloan started her new block Wednesday quilt. I'd really like to do it, but I don't know if I will. modafabrics.com/inspiration-resources/bh5-group-2-block-4-barbara-groveswww.ilovetomakequilts.com/2024/01/whats-in-your-closet-and-a-giveaway-.htmlTake care

One of the frustrations of these really great online recipes, is the endless scrolling to get to the actual recipe. Thanks for the heads up on that CJ- I do not have time to check the recipe out at the moment, but will surely look at it later on. And yes, I agree with using less chips (if that suits your personal taste). Sometimes a recipe just calls for too many, or you can use mini chips to spread out the chocolate taste and cut calories. The Pat Sloan quilt looks interesting, with all the different sized blocks.

Ginny, you sure are right about the recipe thing. This recipe I used for the foccaccia is like that. I thought I'd never get to the recipe. That being said I made another today and made it into a pizza.
CJ, I hope you're having a good day and all is going well with the move.

Good morning!!! Yes, CJ, hope that despite the rain and drizzle that the move is going ok.
Had lunch with a friend who just moved with his new wife to another state…he is back up here to get his properties sort of ready for sale…and the final move. As CJ well knows, it’s a LOT of work.
Ruth, glad you found the focaccia recipe, buried in the midst of advertisements and comments by the poster.
See ya later….
