Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

New Challenge: Dryuary and beyond! Or Dampuary to begin! January 1 - February 10 (Lunar New Year)
"I look to 2024 with a renewed commitment to Progressā and āOut the Door in 2024ā (thanks Cathy!)
Letās Begin!
Will this be your year? Embrace 2024 with eyes wide open, with accountability, with not just going along, but being the best you can be. For many January 1 is a repeat of a cycle. We may be happy where we are personally, maybe with a bit of tweaking but there remains a niggling if I could just lose those pounds, if I could eat more cleanly, if I could just commit to excercising, could I just get some decent sleep! So let the tweaking and niggling begin to make this year work for us! It will be an adventure and can only enhance us.
Are you ready for this new challenge? If wavering, no matter, join in and take what works for you. Share, enjoy the bonding. But also ask yourself what is holding you back?
How do we kick off the New Year? For many it is the commitment to healthy eating, no drinking and getting into shape. We want to cleanse ourselves of what may be holding us back from being the person we want to be. However, true cleansing does not mean just ridding the body of toxins. We're exposed to harmful substances all the time; they're in our diet (pesticides, microbes, and mercury, to name a few) and the very air we breathe (think disinfectants, deodorizers, and the gasses released by fresh paint). We can choose to eliminate as many of these as possible. But there is also a Spiritual aspect as well. Toxins bring you down. When we eliminate harmful substances from our diet and eliminate as many as possible from our lives, we will feel rejuvenated from the inside out.
During the holidays we can easily overload on food and alcohol as well as the commercialization of the holiday. We may feel inundated with stress and turn to self medication through food and alcohol, and repeat the cycle the next day. The sense of joy and peace that we seek will not be found.
So here we are on the first day of the NEW YEAR! Where will you be a year from today? Will you still be wondering why you are looking for satisfaction through food and alcohol or are you ready to make a change and cleanse yourself of old habits. Let's take the first 40 days of this year to create new habits, cleanse ourselves of old habits, and become the person we know we can be.
From January 1 through February 10 we are challenging ourselves to go without alcohol and cleanse ourselves of habits that make ourselves feel bloated, anxious, and just overwhelmed. For some alcohol issues cannot be manage on your own and this board is here to support you in getting help. This board has posters at many different stages in the journey. Some know that being AF is the way to go, others hope to be AIM, but we are all conscious of the slippery slope that can lead to AIE. We want to feel empowered, not let toxins control us, but let us control toxins.
You will not be kicked out of the challenge because of a slip but understand why the slip, talk about it. Christmas and New Year's may have given you a freedom to overindulge but don't let that continue.
Anytime is a good time to start, there is no magic with a Monday, or starting with the next day since today is lost....but there is some sort of magic with January 1. We are more determined, more open to admitting to our new year resolution because we are all in it together. The trick is to keep that MOMENTUM going and it is a commitment to forty days!
Let's make our living environment a healthy environment. Face it, no matter how motivated, committed you are, on January 1, having alcohol, junk food, trigger foods, in your kitchen is not going to help. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is going to happen. Don't make it easier to give in. You are only kidding yourself when you say I have it in the house for company, for the kids, the just in case.
Assess your kitchen....ask does this help me or hinder me? DO NOT have a sentimental attachment to alcohol or food.....the stuff will still be out there, it does not magically disappear. Remember, this is your health! This is your LIFE!
Let's get going and get those pounds out the door!
Great success vibes to all!

I spent some time yesterday morning looking at the Globus travel website, plugging in different options to see what the final cost will be. I've apparently been "ghosted" by the travel agent, 2 emails and one voicemail have gone unanswered. I can talk to a Globus rep, so we may just do it that way. When it got into the 40's, DH & I went to walk the nature trail. When we got back it was lunch and couch time. I was really dragging from less than 5 hours sleep night before last. We had turkey Manhattens for dinner with deli turkey, yum. I went up to bed earlier than usual, but still had trouble falling asleep.
It's sunny and warmer this morning, already 40. The birds are busy on the feeders. We didn't have yoga on Monday evening since only 3 people said they were coming. I took my 2nd injection of semaglutide yesterday, no tummy upset so far this time. I do have a mild headache but haven't needed Tylenol for it yet.
Jan- WTG steps 11/11, PU, stretches, hip PT, blue dot, AF, going to WW meeting. It's encouraging that the longest days are behind us. Hope you enjoyed your steak dinner.
Cindy- Yay for the internet being fixed. Hope DS is feeling better. WTG doing patio cleanup. Hope the rehab people are right about DB making progress, sorry he is discouraged. Yay for finding deals at Walmart.
Carole- Sorry about the crazy day at work. GL with the new DietBet.
Liz- WTG for more AF/OP/bike days and doing errands in yucky weather. I understand about days getting away from us.
Cathy- Sorry it's cold and dreary. Hope you have a nice visit with your friend.

Getting ready to head off to work. Have my lunch all packed, made the WW banana/protein pancakes for breakfast and should hold me til afternoon. Scale was down a bit more today, also weighing with less on, but I'm going to say I did 3# for the month and I'm good with that. I would like to get off the next 4 or more before my Dr Appt on March 4th, gives me something to work towards even tho I don't usually do a weight goal So my STAR goals for the month are drink my water, eat in my points at least 5 days a week, track every bite. We'll see if that makes my "Hopeful Goal" I can't just wish for it, I have to work for it. One thing I have noticed from not drinking, that I thought was more from drinking is when I wake up my stomach seems flatter and not so puffed up. But soon after I drink my coffee, that I put 1/2n1/2 in, sometimes reg, sometimes FF, my stomach puffs right back up. I am pretty lactose intolerent, but it hasn't seemed to bother me as much this last few years. I'm thinking the bloat is from the dairy issue and now need to rethink my morning coffee addition. I can't do the fake creamers, flavored or not but Almond milk was just so blah. An experiment to work on. Can't believe it's the end of the month already. Excited for the new month. Guess I better get moving. I will check in when I get home. I have packed 3 hershey kisses in case of a chocolate emergency today, see if I come home with them or not. Jan Amy Thanks for starting us. Sorry there was no yoga but glad the people checked in so the instructor didn't have to drive over. I had to look up turkey manhatten sandwich I always learn something here. Hope you can work it out with the travel agent or the actually company. Yay for warmer weather for walking. You all will probably be having blooming trees soon. I need to empty out the bird feeder soup again, but they will have to wait until this afternoon. There is lots of seed on the ground that the squirrels dumped out so I don't think anyone will starve before then. I have no interest in doing 23 and me or any of those. Don't think there's any real family dirt, but don't want to bust my bubble either ha ha. Cathy Looks like the 123 program is doing it's thing. Enjoy your time with your friend. Carole Sounds like a crazy day at school and who gives a kid $50 for lunch? I guess if it's supposed to last all week! How long does your diet bet last? You always do great, yay for OP day before the start. Liz I get about the day getting away, I've had to build in coming to the board right after I journal and am having coffee in the morning. It doesn't always happen but at least I can check it, get my stats in, which keeps me accountable and then get on with the day. I haven't heard a work from DS lately, he's probably not liking the weather either. You are starting up your good habits streak! Let's keep it going. Cindy Be careful on the patio if it's slippery with the algae. Hope DS starts to feel better. Glad the rehab is thinking DB is doing better, wish you could help raise his spirits more. Today should be the last eye drop day! Hooray. Waving hi. Off to the funny farm.

Hi girls. Like Jan said, if I wait too long in the day to post, I donāt get back to it. Yesterday I was just plain old tired. I got up and had to get dressed and out the door in 15 minutes, because I set the alarm wrong. I made it through water class, but went straight home and spent the rest of the day on the couch. DH had gone to the store to pick up a new microwave and I messaged him to bring home something to eat, but he got it just as he was getting home. I ate some leftover pork but then got into the peanut butter again. The scale was up 2.2 this morning. Even though I know I didnāt eat enough calories to deserve that number, it was good to see it. My question of the day is will this help me to be successful? So far so good. And Iām looking forward to the scale being down next week. I went to line dance and really enjoyed it. I hadnāt been there since early December. There were lots of people there, which was nice. I got called an expert! š I laughed and told them thatās why I like to come to the beginning classes! I messaged DD and Rylee liked the childrens choir and is excited to sing in church on Sunday. That makes me so happy! Iām so glad I can watch her online!
Cindy: Sorry DS is still feeling punky! I keep telling DH how much I enjoy watching the birds. Sorry DB is discouraged. š
Liz: Good for you with your habits! How is Isabel doing at preschool?
Carole: Kids are funny. Addison always packed her lunch unless they were having a meal she liked. Rylee buys every day because DD said she wasnāt doing that. But they always have chicken nuggets a la cart. Rylee has an account. I was surprised your kids use cash!
Cathy: Enjoy!
Jan: Hope work went well today. Yay for getting paid twice a month now! How many kisses did you come home with? Someone on Connect talked about having a handful of chocolate chips. If I get that far, Iām probably eating a half a bag. Thatās not enjoying them, itās just literally feeding my feelings.
Amy: Hmm, a turkey manhattan. I thought Manhattans were a drink. I would be upset with the travel agent. just like AAA, Iāll never go back to them for a vacation. Iāll use my friend. Iām sure someone will be able to get you set up.
Tonight is choir. Since the kitchen is a wreck, weāll be going out for dinner. My plan is grilled cod.

Hi girls! Yesterday was an AF/OP/Tracked/Bike day. I really can't see how the Fitbit calorie burn can be so high with so few step; I do question its accuracy. It is still a cloudy and cold day; I wish it would either snow or rain and then move on and give us some sunshine, I can take sunny and cold but not cloudy and cold. Nothing new to report, same ole, same ole.
Amy~ Wow 40 degrees in the morning sounds like Florida to me, lol, I wish! Sorry about the travel agent rep ghosting you. I hope you can catch up on missed sleep. I had to google turkey Manhattans, YUM!
Cindy~ Glad you were able to talk to your DB; sorry that he sounded discouraged. I know when my DH went through radiation, I noticed that by towards the end of his 35 treatments, his energy level was completely drained. It did take a while before he was able to recoup some of his energy back and he dwas depressed during that time. I am surprised that your DSIL has to sneak protein drinks in, the rehab should be giving them to your brother on daily basis. Hoping your DS feels better soon. Yay for your warmer weather and being able to get outside and so some yard work, just be careful.
Jan~ I think you are rocking it! Planning, packing, tracking, and AF! Your "Hopeful Goals" are closer than you think. I used to be able to sit at the counter with my laptop in peace and quiet to post but DH seems to always be around and has the TV going, sometimes it is hard to think; I hate background noise. He is up at the crack of dawn and when he does go out, I am already either knitting or doing something around the house. I like posting in the morning with my coffee but that is not happening anymore. Maybe once the summer comes around, he'll be back outside early.
Vicki~ Thanks for letting us know about Murphy! Sorry about the scale, but you are still doing good things for you body with going to the Y for water aerobics and line dancing. So glad Rylee enjoyed the children's choir.
Carole~ Good luck with your Dietbet! Can you believe kids are walking around with $50 bills in their pockets!
Cathy~ Hope you got to visit with your friend recovering from surgery. I think we are in the same weather pattern, yuck!
Think I am just going to crash and watch a little TV, have a great night!

Hi all, got home from work about 40 minutes ago. DH was OUT somewhere (grocery) so I did a dance around upstairs with the music on, folded and put away the laundry and got my AP bar! I guess he's going so make some salmon for dinner with brussels and ?? I'll eat whatever is on the menu if I don't have to cook. No other plans for this evening but some knitting and so TV I suppose. Kept busy at work so the time went faster but will be happy for the weekend Ha ha, this is after 3 days. Hope you all have had a good day. Glad to hear Murphy is doing better and will check in soon. We all need whatever support we can get and I'm thankful for you all being here. Jan GG Well, I came home with the hershey kisses but I counted out 10 M&Ms and threw them in my bag with my pretzels. The salty and sweet was yummy and they were 2 pts so it was about an even trade. Now to stay out of them the rest of the week The scale wake up is always helpful and you'll get back down in no time. Glad Rylee enjoyed the singing and wants to return. Yay for having fun at line dance and GL at dinner out tonight. Liz We finally had some sun this afternoon and it just was so nice to see even though I didn't try to go out and walk. The wind was just a bit much with the cold still. Good for you getting on the bike and AF. I think the Fitbit calorie goes by your weight, movement, foods in etc and seems pretty good to me. I changed my goal on there to losing 1# a week and that's why it often says I have calories left for the day but slow and steady will work for me. Sorry DH is a morning person and gets in your space. Luckily for me DH has a computer upstairs that he uses in the morning and so I get some quiet. Enjoy your evening. Waving to all

Hi All!
Finally DS is feeling better. He actually wanted to eat and I made several suggestions and he asked for the jambalaya I make. Had all the ingredients in the house so I made it. I'm just glad he is feeling much better. The day was a mix of laundry, cooking, cleaning litter boxes (yes Ainsley has two) and a bit of this and a bit of that. Not sure what tomorrow will bring.
Amy, thanks for getting us going this morning. I'm sorry about getting ghosted by the travel agent. I swore about it on your behalf. Are you committed to Globus? Sandwiches sound delicious. Sorry that yoga had to be cancelled. Glad the second injection is going well. Hope you have a better night sleep!
Jan, success vibes for your hopeful goal. Know you can do it! Could you try sugar free syrups for your coffee to jazz up the almond milk? Glad you could dance around and get your AP bar. I need to up my steps/move more! Yay for counting the M&M's
Liz, I agree that my DSIL shouldn't have to bring in stuff. She told me staffing at the place is at about 50% and though DB can only eat about 3 small spoonfuls of anything, he gets hungry after a few hours and though asks for something, it is hit or miss whether he gets anything. The place is close to home and has a good reputation but just doesn't have the staff so she brings in the protein drinks and just doesn't mention it. I feel I don't get all the info but?? Yay for another successful day!
Cathy, I hope you were able to visit with your friend and that you had a wonderful day!
Carole, $50 is really amazing! I would think Zelle would be the norm but what do I know. Success vibes for the DietBet!
GG, glad that Rylee is enjoying herself at children's choir. The scale will be down! Glad you had fun line dancing! Hope you had a wonderful dinner out! How is the kitchen island project coming along?
Murphy, hope you are back to posting soon!
I tried going without the Tylenol since today was the last day of eye drops...oops. But no more eye drops!
Hugs to all, Cindy

Went to see a friend that had surgery about a month ago. She called this morning to say it was good to see me and Rosalie and then asked me to interpret her medical reports...oh my. Anyway...did some research, told her what I had gleaned from the internet and the limited report she offered me, and then said bye. My husband is giving some cut firewood to a friend and is outside supervising now. I woke to sunshine and clear skies but rain clouds are moving in from over the sea. Last night I made a warmer nest to sleep in and was cozy and warm not wanting to get out of bed this morning. My husband says it is going to warm up soon...hope he is right. Lunch will probably be leftover mjudra and cabbage salad.
NSV: did not buy candy or wine on the way to or from visiting my friend SV: Down on the scale
I've read your posts and caught up but no time for personals today. Wishing you a good night's sleep and a beautiful day!
