Hey, Gang.
Happy February. We got a brief peek at the sun this morning, so I went out and did some errands.
Have a great afternoon.

Chele, thanks for the start. Can't believe it's February already! ๐๐ฐ๐ It's sunny and in the 60s here, so a nice day. Glad you got a little sun. DM called to say she had something for me - her tax paperwork. I'm taking groceries over there and this doesn't seem like a fair trade.
Karen, safe travels today.
Linda, thanks for the funnies. There have been some great Clydesdale commercials over the years.

I m probably the only one on the boards who hates to see Jan go because it means heat is coming. Been so nice not to sweat.
no, that is not a fair trade. I really have to grit test and print a lot of forms. Our state is form happy.
right now wind picked up a bit, then dead, heavy, humid air before the rain comes after dinner. Big mass of it. They expect a foot of snow in the mountains east of me where Apache Sunrise skiing is. Only six inches in the north, mainly at the 6500 ft level at first.
Cleaning lady today, and I went to bank, pet store to exchange food, and stopped at corner family Italian place for dinner to heat late. So kitchen stays clean! Fun getting the โI hate rainโ dog out to the yard late tonight to get her through the night. She got a decent walk this afternoon at 3:30, not as far as I have been. Either hamstring or IT band is still mad and today it is letting me know.
Ear has been clogging for days, like being on a plane. It is tough on balance, but next step I think is a stent surgery.

๐๐๐ Thanks for the start, Chele. Congrats on seeing the sun. Hopefully that will happen more often the closer we get to spring. I actually needed sunglasses for most of my trip today. It still was only in the upper 40s but it felt a lot warmer with the sun shining through the windshield. Guess we'll see what Phil and the other rodents have to say tomorrow. I heard Phil is typically correct about 30% of the time.
Kathy, what an amazing photo! I'm in awe that you were able to capture that shot. Kinda looks like egrets have no concept of personal space๐. Sunny and 60s sounds about perfect. Enjoy! You're right that you're getting the short end of the stick on the "trade" with DM.
Sorry about the leg pain, Linda, and the balance issue. Not good for dog walking. Sounds like you got a lot done today nonetheless. Have you gotten any deliveries since Minni's incident earlier in the week?
Long day but at least car service is done for 6 months and I didn't have to spend the day in Asheville. Osteo went well before, and the trip to TJ's was moderately successful. They were out of tempeh and soy milk, both of which were on my list. They rearranged the store, so it took me a while to find everything. They really need a larger location, but I'm thankful that at least we have one reasonably close. Dale is going trail running in KVL tomorrow and plans to get takeout from Salsarita's. At least I won't have to make dinner.

Our TJ's is also smaller than most but only a mile away!
Kathy, great photo!
PETA has offered to give a huge coin to flip and let the groundhog live in peace. Poor Phil lives in a small space in the back of the library rest of the year.
โSince the late 1800s, some Pennsylvania men in suits and top hats have looked to a rodent to predict the bitterness of the winter ahead after February. The groundhog is called Punxsutawney Phil, so-named after the town in Pennsylvania where this bizarre and cruel annual tradition occurs.
Each year, the severity of winter weather over the next several weeks is contingent upon a frightened groundhog being presented to large crowds in sub-freezing temperatures after seeing (or not seeing) their shadow.
Enter PETA, an organization that has long been critical of the Punxsutawney, Pa. tradition, and their latest plea to let the poor animal be. Here's what we know about PETA's latest efforts to save Punxsutawney Phil and those who come after him. PETA wants to replace Punxsutawney Phil with a coin for Groundhog Day.
PETA has offered to send the Groundhog Club's president and related officials a giant gold coin, symbolic, they say, because a groundhog's prediction is no more reliable than the flip of a coin.
"Groundhogs can't make heads or tails of the weather forecast and shouldn't be jostled around by large members of a different species and thrust in front of noisy crowds for a photo op," PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said
Previous Groundhog Day traditions included digging up a poor groundhog from their home, being chased by townspeople, and having a "magical elixir" of "vodka, milk, and orange juice" shoved down their throats, with their kin hunted and eaten in celebration, per History.
Though the "elixir of life" has not been used for more than a century, per TIME, the unbridled cruelty of each successive groundhog's handling remains.
According to PETA, Phil is not treated like royalty throughout the remainder of the year but rather confined to a small enclosure in a library year-round.
In PETA's letter to Groundhog Club President Tom Dunkel, they acknowledge the storied history of the tradition, while urging a humane future for Phil.
"Give Phil the retirement party he deserves, complete with a ticket to a reputable sanctuary, and weโll send you a two-sided giant coin to forecast the weather in his place. This makes cents for several reasons," the letter reads.
Animal advocates have spoken out against exploiting animals for entertainment.
Organizations such as Farm Sanctuary have protested against the exploitation of these fuzzy creatures for human entertainment, suggesting that groundhog enthusiasts instead take action against government programs and "traditions" that kill wildlife.
Past PETA proposals for Western Pennsylvania's Groundhog Day tradition alternatives include a persimmon tree, an animatronic Phil who could predict the weather more accurately utilizing artificial intelligence, and replacing Phil with a human activist who would live in Phil's enclosure instead.
Phil is far from the only groundhog used for human entertainment and unreliable weather forecasting. In fact, per the Countdown to Groundhog Day website, many other states in the U.S. and areas around the world look to live groundhogs, stuffed animal versions, and taxidermied groundhogs for their winter predictions.
And, according to an illuminating USA Today graphic, Phil's 40% accuracy in predicting the weather is, in fact, no more reliable than a flip of the coin.
