Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

New Challenge: Dryuary and beyond! Or Dampuary to begin! January 1 - February 10 (Lunar New Year)
"I look to 2024 with a renewed commitment to Progress” and “Out the Door in 2024” (thanks Cathy!)
Let’s Begin!
Will this be your year? Embrace 2024 with eyes wide open, with accountability, with not just going along, but being the best you can be. For many January 1 is a repeat of a cycle. We may be happy where we are personally, maybe with a bit of tweaking but there remains a niggling if I could just lose those pounds, if I could eat more cleanly, if I could just commit to excercising, could I just get some decent sleep! So let the tweaking and niggling begin to make this year work for us! It will be an adventure and can only enhance us.
Are you ready for this new challenge? If wavering, no matter, join in and take what works for you. Share, enjoy the bonding. But also ask yourself what is holding you back?
How do we kick off the New Year? For many it is the commitment to healthy eating, no drinking and getting into shape. We want to cleanse ourselves of what may be holding us back from being the person we want to be. However, true cleansing does not mean just ridding the body of toxins. We're exposed to harmful substances all the time; they're in our diet (pesticides, microbes, and mercury, to name a few) and the very air we breathe (think disinfectants, deodorizers, and the gasses released by fresh paint). We can choose to eliminate as many of these as possible. But there is also a Spiritual aspect as well. Toxins bring you down. When we eliminate harmful substances from our diet and eliminate as many as possible from our lives, we will feel rejuvenated from the inside out.
During the holidays we can easily overload on food and alcohol as well as the commercialization of the holiday. We may feel inundated with stress and turn to self medication through food and alcohol, and repeat the cycle the next day. The sense of joy and peace that we seek will not be found.
So here we are on the first day of the NEW YEAR! Where will you be a year from today? Will you still be wondering why you are looking for satisfaction through food and alcohol or are you ready to make a change and cleanse yourself of old habits. Let's take the first 40 days of this year to create new habits, cleanse ourselves of old habits, and become the person we know we can be.
From January 1 through February 10 we are challenging ourselves to go without alcohol and cleanse ourselves of habits that make ourselves feel bloated, anxious, and just overwhelmed. For some alcohol issues cannot be manage on your own and this board is here to support you in getting help. This board has posters at many different stages in the journey. Some know that being AF is the way to go, others hope to be AIM, but we are all conscious of the slippery slope that can lead to AIE. We want to feel empowered, not let toxins control us, but let us control toxins.
You will not be kicked out of the challenge because of a slip but understand why the slip, talk about it. Christmas and New Year's may have given you a freedom to overindulge but don't let that continue.
Anytime is a good time to start, there is no magic with a Monday, or starting with the next day since today is lost....but there is some sort of magic with January 1. We are more determined, more open to admitting to our new year resolution because we are all in it together. The trick is to keep that MOMENTUM going and it is a commitment to forty days!
Let's make our living environment a healthy environment. Face it, no matter how motivated, committed you are, on January 1, having alcohol, junk food, trigger foods, in your kitchen is not going to help. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is going to happen. Don't make it easier to give in. You are only kidding yourself when you say I have it in the house for company, for the kids, the just in case.
Assess your kitchen....ask does this help me or hinder me? DO NOT have a sentimental attachment to alcohol or food.....the stuff will still be out there, it does not magically disappear. Remember, this is your health! This is your LIFE!
Let's get going and get those pounds out the door!
Great success vibes to all!

Good morning all! I'm getting a slow start. Finally got a good night of sleep so when the alarm went off this morning, I told it to be quiet and went back to sleep! No plans to leave the house today. Need to do a little more cleaning. Going to have a cup of tea now! Murphy

Must have needed to catch up as I was still in bed after 7 this morning and probably could have gone back to sleep. But wanted to get up and have some time while DH was still asleep so have gotten in all my journaling, tracking and making of the day's to do lists. DH is now going to make us a big spinach, mushroom omelette for breakfast yum. Not happy with the grey sky this morning but there is still hope for a bit of sun sometime this weekend. The weatherman was talking in the 50's sometime this next week. I worry that the plants will start waking up and then we will have a big freeze and snow again. I'll be so made it my dogwoods and fruit tree freeze their buds off! My plan was/is to get yarn today. The hat I want to make suggests certain colors by a certain company which I don't see anyone local sells. I tried to order it online last night, 3 times tried to check out and it kept coming back with something not working. I will try once more this morning and then go to the local shop and try to find something similar. I also need to get gas, run past the bank and figure out something for dinner. DS had called last night around dinner. They were in NY visiting as he had gotten some unplanned time off after he tested for Covid last week. Uggh. He said it was mild, sniffles and like a cold but had to be out of work so they took the time to visit the DH family. He said he had tested negative 2 days before they left and now has been 6 days so shouldn't think he'd still be contagious. He has all his paperwork into Miami and now they wait. Sounds like the plan may be to move back there at the end of the year, either way, when their lease is up and she would start her clinicals down there for school. Once she starts that somewhere she has to stay until she is done with her Nurse PA schooling. At least it sounds like they have a plan, I never ask the plan about the Big M work Guess I better get moving, time for another hour of steps. Have a great Saturday all. Will check back later. Jan Murphy Glad you got some better sleep and can just work around the house today. Yay for purging and cleaning out. I'm not feeling it yet. Cindy Glad DS is doing better and you both could get out to rescue your outdoor furniture etc. Yay for being strong at Costco and ignoring those bulbs, for now I had the Warriors game on for a bit last night while I was knitting and couldn't believe I didn't know any of the players, then in a bit Curry came out but seems their dynasty is done now for a bit too. Not sure why always the huge fascination with the Lakers, just suppose it's all sports is about money these days. Carole The mine field is real. I made it til Friday and then those MMs were just making me crazy. Had some I counted, then went back for some peanut ones, uugghh. So glad it's the weekend and I can regroup! Prayers and good karma about the Dr report. Better to find out and get treament than to just worry about it. Fingers crossed you hear about the job. GG Have fun at the musical, I know you'll be singing along Amy Hope the golf cart is back up and running. What kind of cake did Cory bring over for his birthday freebie? Do you feel like your appetite is really less these days? Do you still crave certain things or just not that interested? Do they have a shot to take away the chocolate demon? Enjoy your weekend. What are you stitching on now? Was the NY cover for an order or just for your sales box? Liz Maybe today you will just get to relax at home. I'm sure when DD is at the grocery she is enjoying just strolling up and down every aisle and savoring her quiet time I remember doing that, no crying baby, just being out of the house on my own.

What a great way to go into the new Year! Happy New Year!
So it's always something. Our barely-2 years old dryer is dead. It's like there's no power to it, but we checked the circuit breaker and that is not the issue. The repair guy can't come until Thursday, so we took the partially dry load to the laundromat to finish drying. Then we walked at Logan Farm Park, lots of people and dogs out. We stopped at Ingles for a few things then headed home. We made meatballs in the oven for dinner, much easier than in the skillet and way less messy. I froze some of the meatballs after cooking for a quick dinner. Cory brought a red velvet cake for dessert. After dinner we played Winky Dink, DD & I crushed it. Then we watched a couple of episodes of Poker Face. I didn't stay up too late and slept well.
DH, DS, & I walked the nature trail this morning, saw a deer in the woods. When we got back we had bacon, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, and banana muffins for breakfast. DS has gone home. When I tried to post, the board was down, glad it's back up again. I think I'll work on beaded ornaments this afternoon.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Yay for a good day yesterday, giving yourself a mani/pedi. WTG cleaning out the night stand, I need to buy some foreign adapters. I like Sweet Baby Ray's but have never tried the sugar free.
Liz- WTG AF/OP/tracked/biked. I can imagine it would be difficult watching both grandkids alone.
Vicki- Yay for a new dishwasher. Have a great time at My Fair Lady!
Carole- Hope the kidney mass turns out to be nothing to worry about. GL with getting the student supervisor job. Glad your DB is doing well after his knee replacement.
Cindy- WTG doing the lipstick clean out, sticking to your Costco list. Sorry you had to scramble to get stuff in with approaching storm.
Jan- WTG steps 11/11, PU, stretches, hip PT, blue dot, AF. Yay for sleeping in. The omelette sounds good. Hope the buds on your flowering trees survive to bloom and you find the yarn you need. I think I'm adjusting to the medication and so is my appetite. I need to focus on not overeating. But the scale is going down, so I'm pleased. The NY Mets stuff is for inventory.
Cathy- Yay for the scale going down. Sorry the internet has been more off than on.

Boy the site has sure been wonky today! Up and down all the time! I've tried to get on a couple of times this afternoon and it would be down. Anyway - it's been a nice relaxing day. I did a bit more purging and organizing. I even got a little creative and made a birthday card for a friend at church that I'll take to her tomorrow. Nothing fancy at all but it's a good opportunity to use some of my scrapbook things! I made a great supper of pork roast in the crockpot and mashed potatoes and green beans. I'll use a little of the pork roast in a sandwich tomorrow and then make the rest into BBQ. I think it is official that I have become a tea drinker now! LOL. I ordered an electric tea pot that is supposed to boil the water really quick. I went down the Amazon rabbit hole looking at tea caddies and stuff! LOL. The great thing about being single is that if I chose to, I can pack the coffee pot away and just have the tea stuff out on the counter. I have a few boxes of herbal teas but does anyone have recommendations on good breakfast teas? I think I'll still need my caffeine fix!
Church in the morning and again in the evening. This is an off weekend for Motel Ministry. I'll hopefully be able to get us started in the morning if the site cooperates! Night all! Murphy

Hi friends! It was a morning! I go to workout and realize Tyler’s car isn’t there. He went out last night but his df drove. I come inside, no Tyler. I text Alexis, she texted his friends. I texted his gf then his good friends mom—I knew she’d wake up her son—he said Tyler went to SXU to see his gf last night. Oh I was one unhappy mama!! I thought he went to the gym! But thank God he was fine. The sun was out today! I took the pups for a walk, their craziness determined how long we walked—they did good! Only a few squirrel incidents! I also bought the rest of the floss for my cross stitch, so now I will see how long this one takes me! (Hopefully not 14 years like the last one!)
Amy, the cake sounds amazing!! I’ve actually had 3 good eating days in a row!
Jan, did DS apply for school in Miami? How long will gf clinical be? I love M&Ms!!! That could be a dr Seuss book—I love green , I love blue…..
Cindy, I’m glad DS is feeling better. How does your eye feel?
Hello to all and good night! Sweet dreams!

It has been a good week - one more day then a new week begins of tracking and making healthy choices. This has been a good week on Conquer Cravings/123 Success and I look forward to beginning another one tomorrow.
Our daughter was in Saint Louis yesterday so couldn't talk to her. Hope to talk to her, our son, and granddaughters tonight ~ if the internet cooperates.
Lunch today will probably be stir fry or deconstructed stuffed zucchini. I have cauliflower, too, so could make something with it or a combination of the vegetables. We will see.
