Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

New Challenge: Dryuary and beyond! Or Dampuary to begin! January 1 - February 10 (Lunar New Year)
"I look to 2024 with a renewed commitment to Progressâ and âOut the Door in 2024â (thanks Cathy!)
Letâs Begin!
Will this be your year? Embrace 2024 with eyes wide open, with accountability, with not just going along, but being the best you can be. For many January 1 is a repeat of a cycle. We may be happy where we are personally, maybe with a bit of tweaking but there remains a niggling if I could just lose those pounds, if I could eat more cleanly, if I could just commit to excercising, could I just get some decent sleep! So let the tweaking and niggling begin to make this year work for us! It will be an adventure and can only enhance us.
Are you ready for this new challenge? If wavering, no matter, join in and take what works for you. Share, enjoy the bonding. But also ask yourself what is holding you back?
How do we kick off the New Year? For many it is the commitment to healthy eating, no drinking and getting into shape. We want to cleanse ourselves of what may be holding us back from being the person we want to be. However, true cleansing does not mean just ridding the body of toxins. We're exposed to harmful substances all the time; they're in our diet (pesticides, microbes, and mercury, to name a few) and the very air we breathe (think disinfectants, deodorizers, and the gasses released by fresh paint). We can choose to eliminate as many of these as possible. But there is also a Spiritual aspect as well. Toxins bring you down. When we eliminate harmful substances from our diet and eliminate as many as possible from our lives, we will feel rejuvenated from the inside out.
During the holidays we can easily overload on food and alcohol as well as the commercialization of the holiday. We may feel inundated with stress and turn to self medication through food and alcohol, and repeat the cycle the next day. The sense of joy and peace that we seek will not be found.
So here we are on the first day of the NEW YEAR! Where will you be a year from today? Will you still be wondering why you are looking for satisfaction through food and alcohol or are you ready to make a change and cleanse yourself of old habits. Let's take the first 40 days of this year to create new habits, cleanse ourselves of old habits, and become the person we know we can be.
From January 1 through February 10 we are challenging ourselves to go without alcohol and cleanse ourselves of habits that make ourselves feel bloated, anxious, and just overwhelmed. For some alcohol issues cannot be manage on your own and this board is here to support you in getting help. This board has posters at many different stages in the journey. Some know that being AF is the way to go, others hope to be AIM, but we are all conscious of the slippery slope that can lead to AIE. We want to feel empowered, not let toxins control us, but let us control toxins.
You will not be kicked out of the challenge because of a slip but understand why the slip, talk about it. Christmas and New Year's may have given you a freedom to overindulge but don't let that continue.
Anytime is a good time to start, there is no magic with a Monday, or starting with the next day since today is lost....but there is some sort of magic with January 1. We are more determined, more open to admitting to our new year resolution because we are all in it together. The trick is to keep that MOMENTUM going and it is a commitment to forty days!
Let's make our living environment a healthy environment. Face it, no matter how motivated, committed you are, on January 1, having alcohol, junk food, trigger foods, in your kitchen is not going to help. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is going to happen. Don't make it easier to give in. You are only kidding yourself when you say I have it in the house for company, for the kids, the just in case.
Assess your kitchen....ask does this help me or hinder me? DO NOT have a sentimental attachment to alcohol or food.....the stuff will still be out there, it does not magically disappear. Remember, this is your health! This is your LIFE!
Let's get going and get those pounds out the door!
Great success vibes to all!

Good morning all! Yesterday was busy but it was a good busy. Got all my errands done and had some couch time in the afternoon. Today is going to be busy too. I've got the ladies Bible study this morning with lunch afterward. I've got my chicken salad made and will take crackers to go with it. Then I'll be taking some of the food to the leader of the study who is home sick. Then I need to take my sewing machine to the shop to be serviced. It may just be an adjustment that I don't know how to do but I do like having it working for mending and hemming as needed. Hope everyone has a wonderful day and I'll try to check back when I get home. Murphy

Good morning all. Getting ready to head off to my meeting and face the scale. Yesterday I was just so tired after a long day. DH was feeling off or ? and didn't want dinner so I just made some ramen. Probably not the best before WI with the sodium but it is what it is. I have all my lunch, breakfast and snacks packed for today. Got into one baby candy yesterday when I was there so late and had eaten all my snacks. Said the tiny one was only 1 point so not too bad. Today could be long too, but hoping to have a bit more energy after sleeping better and being more routine. When I get off I hope to run to Walgreens for my scripts and pick up some 1/2 1/2 for our coffee. Ahi is back on the menu for tonight as it's thawed and ready to go. HOpe you all have a great Tuesday. I will be back for personals when I get home tonight. Fingers crossed we see some sun today! Jan

What a great way to go into the new Year! Happy New Year!
DH & I walked up the hill in the neighborhood yesterday morning, had to cut it short so that DH could get ready for his doctor appointment. DD & I took 2 loads of wet laundry to the laundromat to dry. When we got back I had lunch and then couch time. We had 7 people at yoga. DH ordered a pizza for dinner. Only had 1 slice as not a fan of some of the toppings.
It's sunny again today, with frost on the ground. It's supposed to get in the upper 50's. I'm going for a haircut this afternoon. I'm ready, my bangs are driving me crazy.
Jan- WTG steps 10/11, PU, tiny habits, blue dot, AF. Sorry the scale is not cooperating, GL at WI. Glad the WW cookies were good. Hope you get some sun. I keep most of my beading supplies in a casserole dish that I stash in the office so it's not such an ordeal to get everything out.
Vicki- Glad you loved My Fair Lady and seeing Addison and Rylee in the children's choir. WTG delegating to your women's meeting members. I'm only on 1/4 of the full dose of the medication, with 2 more weeks to go before I increase to 1/2 dose. I think I've adjusted to it, so I really need to think about what goes in my mouth, like any WW, LOL.
Liz- WTG for another AF/OP/tracked/biked day. The headache is gone, hopefully it doesn't come back when I take my dose today.
Carole- Sorry about the groin muscle. Do you have a bulge? It could be a femoral or inguinal hernia. GL with the student supervisor job, it's good that you got in touch with him. Sorry DH & DS didn't go to golf.
Cathy- Sorry the scale is up a bit, despite being OP. Enjoy the scone party.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. WTG getting your errands done, enjoy Bible study.

Hi All!
Somehow I managed to get a cold. Never like the bleary eyes or the coughing. Hopefully another day of tea/OTC meds and sleep will knock it out of me.
Hope everyone is doing well and will catch up.
Hugs, Cindy

Hi all. Another full day. Went to WI, down a smidge again on their scale so at least it's moving. Then on to work and we had 12 appts scheduled back to back from 10-3:30. One didn't show so I at least I got a little lunch break Just came straight home, will go to Walgreens in the morning. Now DH went off to the Ups store to mail a box, yay, 1/2 hour to myself at home. First thing was to mute the TV . Just going to veg on the couch for a bit. He has all the things in place to make dinner, guess hes feeling better. And he went to the grocery to pick up the odds and ends so I didn't have to do that. No plans for this evening, hope to feel like picking up my knitting needles at least for awhile. Or march around and get an AP bar, but just not feeling it. I do so much better if I exercise in the morning and just get it done. Maybe my goal for the next challenge, scheduling my moving around. Hope you have all had a nice day. We got a few peeks of the sun this afternoon but it's hidden away again for the evening. Jan Amy Good for you doing your extra workouts in the basement even after walking and going to yoga. Glad you aren't having the reaction from the meds anymore and hope it doesn't come back when you up the dose. I didn't know it was a gradual increase. Sounds like you are getting things done to replace the inventory for your sales. When is the dryer guy supposed to come? I need a haircut so badly. I thought I wanted to try to grow it back out a bit, but it's driving me crazy. Cindy Sorry you caught the bug. Feel better soon. I'm seeing more people coming in the tax office and at the stores wearing masks again. Liz Hope you had a good day, yay for being AF and biking. I saw a message from my yarn place that they had shipped my order so hope to get it soon. I guess we need to be patient with the scale and just be glad for the positive changes we are working on. GG Glad you enjoyed the play so much. I thought the movie had a good ending, but I can't really remember. Maybe the play is different. Yay for delegating at the Women's meeting. Hope you enjoyed your cupcake. Today at WW we talked about foods we love and some we should break up with How planning ahead can help us fit in treats but some things we just have too hard a time monitoring and should not have it in the house. Our leader was pretty funny in her presentation. I do enjoy going, just harder before work. Carole Sorry about the groin pull or? Hope the Dr can get you in and figure out what's going on. Fingers crossed about the job. Cathy I looked up the Conquer Cravings. I'm not sure I could stick to the only 0 food being non starchy veggie. But the plan is to add more of those into my choices to help fill me up. Murphy Hope you had a nice time at the woman's lunch and then visiting the women that wasn't feeling well. Did you get your sewing maching taken in? Waving hi to all.

Had a good time at Bible study but of course I ate too much! Took some to our teacher who is out sick but she didn't even feel like visiting so I just dropped the food off for her. Then I took my sewing machine in and left it to be worked on. It's not like I do a lot of sewing but I do like to have it for hemming. Then home. Even though the weather was gorgeous today, I got chilled and all I wanted to do was get on the couch under a throw. Then I promptly fell asleep and took a 2 hour nap! Guess my body needed it.
I talked with my sister in law. Tried to talk with my brother but he is just too weak. He had PT and OT today and I think it just wore him out. I'm going to go stay with him on Thursday and maybe she can get out of the house for a bit. This is just so very hard. But more so on them than me.
Sorry for the lack of personals the last couple of days. I guess I'm just wrapped around my own axle! Love and hugs to you all! Murphy

Hi friends! The sun was out today! I came home and took Juno for a long walk. Bowie was at therapy with Lex. Juno brought me a present this morningâshe had a rabbit in her mouth. I canât pry her mouth open, I tried to cover her nose so she canât breathe and had to open her mouth but that didnât work. Finally got her lower jaw open and got the bunny out. It was too late though đ˘. She just brought it to the door like look! I did it!
Amy, I donât feel a bulge. I took it easy today at the gym. Did some stretches and iced it. I hope you get your dryer fixed soon.
Jan, some girl today said she didnât like M&Ms. I almost jumped over the counter and slapped her! How can you NOT like them?!
Liz, youâre doing great getting on your bike!
Cindy, take care of yourself.
Hi to all. Heading to bed. Jeff and Ty went golfing tonight! Like Kan, the first thing that happened was muting the tv.
