Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

SHAPING UP FOR SPRING EQUINOX! February 11 - March 31
Spring is coming!
Supportive Friends Progress not Perfection Renewal of Being Inspiration New Habits Great Success!
This can be your Spring! This can be your success! No more rationalizing and making excuses.
This challenge isn't just about being alcohol free though it is the focus of the board. It is about finding and giving encouragement, getting healthy, loving ourselves, and finding what works and what doesn't. This is NOT about making ourselves feel badly about the unhealthy choices, it is about celebrating the healthy ones. So let's go for it!
As always, the rules aren't complicated. Simply no alcohol and staying on your food plan. If you get off track, don't give up....don't throw away the day, the night, the week. We are working on progress not perfection.
You may have alcohol issues that you cannot manage on your own and our group is here to support you and encourage you to get the help you might need. You may have alcohol issues that you can control but have to exert the motivation and our group is here to support you.
Spring clean your cupboard early! If you have junk food, tempting alcohol, or trigger foods in your kitchen, you are setting yourself up for failure. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is always going to happen. Don't make it easier for yourself to give in to it. Assess your kitchen, ask if this helps or hinders me. DO NOT have sentimental attachment to food or alcohol. The stuff will always be there, it does not magically disappeared but your health can be compromised! This is your life! Make it the best!
REMEMBERā¦. 1. Work the Plan and the Plan works! Think of your new eating plan as a lifestyle change -- one that will have ups and downs, with good days and (very few) bad.
2. Don't deprive yourself. A food plan should be about SATISFACTION. Find foods you LOVE that will help you meet your goal.
3. Drink lots of water. Water is good for you.
4. Listen to your body. It knows things. Pay close attention to your body cues.
5. Live one day (or even one MEAL) at a time. Don't be discouraged and beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. Just get back on with lots of helping hands.
6. Get exercise with activities you enjoy. If you don't like what you are doing, then you won't stick with it.
7. Keep track of what you eat. Write it down. You WILL 100% without a doubt make better choices if you hold yourself accountable for what you eat by keeping a food journal. (kinda sorta HG ideas)

Happy Valentine's Day, Lent, Hump Day, National Cream Filled Chocolates Day, whichever you want to celebrate. I'm trying to get myself up off the couch and into the shower to get ready for work. Just still a bit sleepy this morning, not sure if interrupted sleep from the cough or Nyquil residue. I'm going to stop taking that, it seems to be making me more groggy these days. Maybe the alcohol affect. There was a beautiful red sunrise this morning which I enjoyed and now we wait to see if we get any storm later today. I don't have as many appts scheduled today but I will stay my hours and work on the drop off folders and try to help. The goal is to stay out of the junk food. I talked to one of the girls that works there who's been there as long as me and I know has had some crazy life things. I asked if she ever did house sitting or would be interested in taking care of the cats in May. She's taken classes to be a vet tech, got derailed with a divorce, is helping take care of her mom, who lives in the senior apts right across the street from us. Looks like it may work out. I trust here and it would take one big "problem" off my mind for our road trip. I just don't feel right asking the neighbors to do it for almost 3 weeks and they never want $$. They could actually still check in on the cats, and let them in if they see them outside. See what happens. Not sure what are plans are for today, probably just another day at out house, but then sometimes DH surprises me. Can's say I've even bought him a card so nothing I can complain about Maybe I'll try to make a stop after work. Have a good day all. I'll check in later this afternoon. Jan Cindy I'm so sorry to hear about your DB. I just can't imagine what you DSIL is going through, this has been an awful couple years. Hugs. Murphy Glad you get to stay home most of the day. Bet your kitchen is smelling yummy with all the food simmering on the stove or in the crock pot. Thanks for starting us. Did you get out to walk at all yesterday? Cathy Have fun with your friends. Have them take a picture of your stylin outfit to show us Waving hi. Will see you all later.

DH & I took 2 big loads of washed clothes to the laundromat to dry yesterday morning, then went to the lake to walk. We saw a couple of houses with blooming daffodils. The wind was cold, but the sun was warm. When we got home I had lunch and some couch time. We had lentil soup and grilled cheese for dinner. I stayed up a bit late finishing a tissue box cover then had trouble falling asleep. After tossing and turning for a while I got up to read some more. I'm dragging and hope to get a nap later.
It's another sunny day in the lower 30's with frost on the ground. I had one daffodil blooming yesterday, hope the frost didn't bother it too much. The dryer repair guy is coming this morning- yay! We didn't know this when we went to the laundromat yesterday.
Cindy- I am so sorry for the loss of your brother. I have not lost any of my siblings yet, I can't even imagine. Hugs!
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Enjoy your shrimp tonight.
Jan- WTG steps 9/11, stretches, tiny habits, blue dot, AF. Sorry it's so backlogged at work, it's nice of you to go in on Saturday. Yay for the scale coming down and coming out ahead in your taxes. There are lots of thing to celebrate today! Sounds like a good idea for your co-worker to housesit.

Good morning girls! Happy Valentineās Day! A day to appreciate and love all those around us and to practice self-love too! Today I stayed the same. I was -4 in weeklies, but I donāt add any activity points. If I have the points Iāll eat them, and donāt necessarily need them. So now the thought is, should I eat more? Should I eat less? The main thing is to continue on, persevere, and eat healthy! I was in a deep sleep when DH came in at 7:30 with the phone. It was the people scheduling my colonoscopy and I had to answer a ton of questions. It was so hard to think after being woke up! But she was very calm and tried to help me. I wouldnāt want her job for anything in the world! We couldnāt schedule because she needed to check with my dr about being off my blood thinner for 5 days. As she ended the call she apologized for getting me out of bed, and wished me a Happy Valentineās Day, with a laugh! I then thanked her, because I certainly hadnāt remembered! I was just getting ready to take my pills, and remembered it was WI day! I need to get dressed and head to line dance soon. I may make individual lasagna noodles with LO chicken rolled up inside, if I can find the recipe. I saved it, but who knows where! DH and I donāt go out. He grilled when it was nice last week, and I told him he was covered! Iām not sure Iāll get back for personals later, but I do read your messages and am so thankful for each one of you!
Cindy, again Iām so very sorry. I will certainly be keeping you and your DSIL in my prayers. I havenāt lost a sibling either. š

Good morning! Fell down the rabbit hole for a few days. But Yesterday I focused on being more aware of what I was eating and drinking, so it was an AIM and an almost OP day. We got a more detailed explanation with Isabel's blood test results. Isabel is NOT anemic however her diet is iron deficient. Now the confusing part of her celiac gene testing. Apparently you definitely have celiac if you test positive to two specific genes. In Isabel's case, she tested negative in one and positive in the second and the count on that was extremely low. So her GI specialist at the Children's is kind of baffled. She is referring Isabel's results to the Celiac Disease Program at the Children's hospital, and hopefully get some clarification. Basically right now DD has to continue with the iron supplement and keeping Isabel's diet gluten free. We are relieved that she is not anemic. DD is being scheduled for a CT of her lungs because her cough has not responded to the prednisone nor the cough med with codeine, a pre-cautionary measure due to the cancer in the family. Then she starts PT for her shoulder. I feel like they are falling apart in her household but at least they are staying on top of everything.
Going out with BFF, will be back with personals, just wanted to check in!
Cindy~ I am so very sorry for your DB's passing. Sending you, DS, and DSIL hugs and prayers.

It's been a quiet morning around here. I did have to make several phone calls with Amazon to straighten something out. It frustrates me to no end to have so much trouble getting to a live person! And 99 times out of 100, you can tell that English isn't their first language so that adds another difficulty! I got the veggie soup made and the chicken and dumplings. The chicken and dumplings isn't the best but hopefully DB will eat at least a few bites of it.
Jan - hope your appointments go smoothly today. Sounds like a good plan to have the girl house sit for you! When is your trip planned?
Amy - I hope by now you have a working dryer! Nothing makes you appreciate working appliances like having one of them out of commission!
Liz - hate that DD and family are having so many health problems! I'm glad that Isabel isn't anemic but I hope they are able to find out what is going on. And I pray that DD's CT scan is negative.
GG - LOL at DH making you get on the phone right when you woke up! I don't think I could manage that either!
Cindy - thinking of you today and keeping you and your family in my prayers.
Cathy - hope you are able to get the clip ons for your glasses. I have FOUR pair of glasses since I am so blind. I don't put my feet on the floor in the mornings until I have my glasses on! And all of them have sunglasses!
Carole - meant to tell you I loved the pic of DD and the puppy she helped deliver! Does she plan to work in that field?
Choir tonight. Hope you all have a great rest of your day! Murphy

Hi friends! Iāve had a horrible day of eatingāstarted with the frosted cookies our baker made. Tomorrow is another day. I finally heard from my dr. He apologized for not getting back to me. Anyway, my MRI is the 28th. Juno found her way into our neighbors yard again. Thank God Jeff saw her. We canāt figure out how she got into their yard, their gates are closed. She busted down our gate. Sheās a stinker!
Amy, I hope your dryer is fixed.
Jan, I hope the sitter works out. I donāt have much self control, I wouldāve eaten 5 bags of m&ms st your work by now! I didnāt even last 1 hour with the cookies in front of me at work!
Murphy, I wish Alexis could be a vet! She just doesnāt have the science or math smarts. Ask her to write something, sheās fantastic. Sheās not sure if she could be a vet tech because of the math. So right now sheās happy where sheās at, one step below a tech.
Liz, does Isabel have to go through more tests? Praying for dds Ct scan. I hope you had fun with your BFF.
Cindy, continued prayers and lots of love and hugs.
Cathy, I hope you got a picture with your cute booties!
Gg,,we donāt go out on Valentineās Day I got my flowers yesterday and weāre actually going out for dinner tomorrow.
Have a great night my friends!
