Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

SHAPING UP FOR SPRING EQUINOX! February 11 - March 31
Spring is coming!
Supportive Friends Progress not Perfection Renewal of Being Inspiration New Habits Great Success!
This can be your Spring! This can be your success! No more rationalizing and making excuses.
This challenge isn't just about being alcohol free though it is the focus of the board. It is about finding and giving encouragement, getting healthy, loving ourselves, and finding what works and what doesn't. This is NOT about making ourselves feel badly about the unhealthy choices, it is about celebrating the healthy ones. So let's go for it!
As always, the rules aren't complicated. Simply no alcohol and staying on your food plan. If you get off track, don't give up....don't throw away the day, the night, the week. We are working on progress not perfection.
You may have alcohol issues that you cannot manage on your own and our group is here to support you and encourage you to get the help you might need. You may have alcohol issues that you can control but have to exert the motivation and our group is here to support you.
Spring clean your cupboard early! If you have junk food, tempting alcohol, or trigger foods in your kitchen, you are setting yourself up for failure. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is always going to happen. Don't make it easier for yourself to give in to it. Assess your kitchen, ask if this helps or hinders me. DO NOT have sentimental attachment to food or alcohol. The stuff will always be there, it does not magically disappeared but your health can be compromised! This is your life! Make it the best!
REMEMBER…. 1. Work the Plan and the Plan works! Think of your new eating plan as a lifestyle change -- one that will have ups and downs, with good days and (very few) bad.
2. Don't deprive yourself. A food plan should be about SATISFACTION. Find foods you LOVE that will help you meet your goal.
3. Drink lots of water. Water is good for you.
4. Listen to your body. It knows things. Pay close attention to your body cues.
5. Live one day (or even one MEAL) at a time. Don't be discouraged and beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. Just get back on with lots of helping hands.
6. Get exercise with activities you enjoy. If you don't like what you are doing, then you won't stick with it.
7. Keep track of what you eat. Write it down. You WILL 100% without a doubt make better choices if you hold yourself accountable for what you eat by keeping a food journal. (kinda sorta HG ideas)

Good Thursday morning all! I slept well. Kind of surprising since I was pretty upset last night. My SIL texted me that they had been to see DB's primary doctor yesterday and he had offered home hospice as an option. The main criteria of hospice is that they estimate 6 months or less although that can be extended. I'm not sure he is at that point yet but will help and support them whatever they decide. Anyway - the text came while I was at choir rehearsal and I was a weepy mess. I've got the soup and chicken and dumplings ready and will head up there about 9:00 this morning. I'll check in when I can. Murphy

It is a dark dreary now wet day outside. I made mjudra (lentils-bulgur-fried onions) with cabbage slaw dressed with garlic-lemon-tsp olive oil for our lunch today. I am thinking hot soup and a sandwich for dinner might be good tonight or an omelet...we will see.
NSV: did NOT buy wine last night though I thought about doing so on the way to and from my get together with friends.
SV: not buying wine and staying within points has the scale moving down again.
The internet has been it or miss - miss than hit. I was able to post a couple of reviews and send an email to my sister and plan to read this afternoon and evening. Nothing exciting to share...although...
QUESTION: I bought a v-neck shocking pink pullover sweater to wear to the Pretty in Pink Party on the 24th...I can wear it with any color underneath and am debating which color to choose...if YOU were wearing a color you don't usually wear (or shocking pink) what color would you wear with it?

Just a quick check in. Woke up to a winter wonderland outside but the roads are clear and I will be heading to knitting and then work soon. I know it will feel like a long day but it will probably go quickly. Yesterday was good, didn't indulge too much, and stayed out of all the junk at work. Just telling myself I gave it up for Lent, even tho I don't practice Lent. Whatever works. DH bought me some flowers and made a funny Valentine on the Computer. He also bought dark chocolate covered almonds, but it could be worse. I will parcel them out and enjoy. We made spaghetti and meatballs for dinner, I made him a heart shaped meatball and told him we were just like Lady and the Tramp Heard from DS, they had heart shaped ravioli for dinner, Cheap dates. Couldn't watch much on the TV last night as all the distressing news was just a bummer. Probably for the best, I watched Miami U basketball, once they got beat I headed up to bed to read. HOpe you all have a good day and can find a bright spot somewhere. Yesterday mine was seeing the male Cardinal right out on the fence outside the window. Knew it was a Valentine's message from my pops. Will check in later. Jan Cathy Yay for saying no to the wine and the scale moving. If you are not sure about the sweater color I would wear something near your face that is more what you normally wear, white, black, gray, something not so bright. But then I have no fashion sense Carole Glad Lex is Happy doing what she does. Sorry the naughty dog got out. Were the cookies at work for the staff or for the kids lunches? Liz BOT today. Hope you had fun with your BFF. Hope all the Dr appts don't just keep leading to more questions and you get some answers. Amy Is the dryer fixed? When you go to the laundromat do you take a book or some stitching to work on? Cindy Hugs and more hugs. GG Just keep working the system. Glad you stayed the same. Did you decide to try eating more or less, or cycle the days high and low. Need to get moving Thanks for starting us Murphy.

The dryer guy showed up around 9:30 yesterday morning and was here about an hour. While he was here I did an education module for work and logged into a couple of applications to keep my access active. When the dryer guy was gone we took the golf cart to the nature trail to walk, we enjoyed the lovely early spring weather. When we got back I had lunch and some couch time. I was horizontal on the couch for a bit, but did not nap. We had butterfly shrimp for dinner with a baguette and cheese dip for DD. We exchanged cards after dinner, DH always gets one for DD. I went to bed a little earlier and slept fairly well other than waking up several times. I had a dream about lasers at work, which was my job over 10 years ago.
It's a sunny beautiful day today in the 30's, heading to the 60's. I need to get out and clean up some of flower beds. The Stella d'Oro's are sprouting.
Vicki- Sorry about the early wakeup yesterday about your colonoscopy.
Liz- WTG getting out of the rabbit hole with AIM/almost OP. Hope the worries for DD & Isabel are resolved soon.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. I mean this in the most loving way possible, but are you are aware that it's been Tuesday the 13th for the last 3 days on the thread? Tomorrow is Friday the 16th, LOL. We all appreciate you getting us started early most days. Sorry about having to deal with Amazon. Glad you slept well. Home hospice for your brother may be more about keeping him comfortable than giving up. We discussed it for my DMIL with the hospice people at my hospital. We ended up not going that way, but one of the differences would have been not worrying about her sodium intake and letting her eat whatever she wanted.
Carole- Glad your MRI is scheduled, fingers crossed. Sorry Juno is such an escape artist. I think Alexis would be an excellent vet tech, has she discussed it with anyone? The math might not be the hurdle she thinks.
Cathy- Sorry it's dark and dreary. WTG not buying wine and the scale coming down. Glad you could post a couple of reviews. I would wear white, black, or gray with the shocking pink sweater. Navy would work too.
Jan- WTG steps 11/11, stretches, AP, tiny habits, 500 days tracking!, blue dot, AF, no junk at work. Enjoy your winter wonderland, glad the roads are good. Your hubby did good with the flowers, card, and chocolate covered almonds. I love seeing cardinals. I play on my phone at the laundromat.

M-W Word of the Day
enervate verb | EN-er-vayt What It Means Enervate is a formal word used for situations in which someone or something is being sapped of physical or mental vigor, vitality, or strength. The verb is most common in the participial forms enervated and enervating, as in "children enervated by the summer afternoon heat" and "a tedious discussion we found completely enervating." // The person giving the lengthy toast seemed to be completely unaware of the degree to which he was enervating his audience.

Final Weigh March 31:
Hi everyone! Still AIM but was OP with eating and tracking. First time I could not drink my usual grey goose martini, I had to ask for a shot of cranberry juice because I found it too strong. That being said, today planning on being AF. What a blast my BFF (Bernie) and I had yesterday shopping, shopping, then dinner. We left her house at noon and I did not get home until 6PM! I checked in earlier with DH to make sure he was ok, funny we forgot that it was Valentine's Day and was wondering why the restaurant was packed, lol. I guess my not spending for the months of January and February went down the tubes. I go 4 outfits for Isabel's Easter basket and 2 outfits with a few small toys for Michael's. I ordered a swimsuit for each for their baskets. I really don't have much of a choice of candy for Isabel that is GF plus the fact DD doesn't really give her that many sweets. I will probably get her egg shaped chalk, bubbles, etc., and I will pick up another couple of outfits for Michael. I already bought 18K gold Italian earrings for her birthday, 3/24. So maybe I can go without retail spending in March.
Cindy~ Thinking of you and you are in my prayers.
Amy~ You must be thrilled your dryer is fixed and not having to lug wet clothes to the laundromat!
Murphy~ Yay for doing the steps on your stepper and the counter pushups! So sorry about the upsetting news regarding your brother. Even though you were at choir when you got the news, but kind of glad that you were not alone when you did get it. I'm sorry, I know that he has been ill but I must have missed what your DB's diagnosis is? (((HUGS)))
Jan~ Love your Valentine Dinner with your DH, heart shaped meatball, lol! DH is a keeper, I love flowers. Sounds like you were a good girl at work and stayed away from the junk food! Love your Valentine's message from your Pops.
Vicki~ Sorry about the early morning wake up call! DH is on a blood thinner and has had several surgeries, they usually ask his PC if he can stop 2 full days prior to the surgery.
Carole~ Sorry about the frosted cookies! Juno sounds like she is really mischievous! Isabel sees her allergist at the Children's at the end of the month for more blood tests to see what is causing the itching. Poor thing scratches so hard she causes little scabs. She has been on Citrizine as recommended but it is not helping. DD might have to up the dose.
Cathy~ I love shocking pink! But if you are apprehensive of so much of the color, you could put a lovely multicolor silk scarf or shawl to cut it, something with a little navy blue or black in it. And you could either wear navy or black skirt, slacks, or jeans with a pair of your cute booties! Maybe some pink nail polish too!
Ok, I want to see a "1" next to AF tomorrow on my stats. Hope everyone has a great Thursday!

I'm home now. DB had a very good morning. Was able to get up out of his chair and walk to the bathroom twice. Ate some soup for lunch and then had doughnuts and chocolate chip cookies. Then he went to sleep. I had a hard time waking him up for his 2:00 meds and then he needed to go to the bathroom so we were 5 minutes late getting his meds. Then he had a horrible afternoon. He was trembling so bad and kept needing to stand up and then sit back down. It was pitiful. Next week I'll go on Tuesday as he had a doctor's appointment on Thursday. DSIL got out and went for a hike with a friend and I'm so happy that she was able to get a break. Honestly I don't think he is ready for hospice but of course will support whatever they decide on.
Amy - OH MY STARS!! I swear I thought I changed the date every day! You can dock my pay ok? LOL. I will double check it tomorrow! Glad your dryer is fixed!
Cathy - I love navy or black with hot pink! Liz has some great suggestions.
Jan - We have bright sunshine today and the temps are in the low 60's! I would share some of it with you if I could! It's supposed to be nice again tomorrow but then cold on Saturday.
Liz - sounds like the retail therapy was just what you needed! Love that you are able to spoil and lavash love on those babies!
No big plans for tomorrow. Need to clean the kitchen and I really need to inventory the food in the freezers and make meal plans for the rest of the month. I'll try to do better in the morning! Murphy

Before I forget, Murphy, they put my MIL in hospice because it was cheaper for us, Medicare paid for the diapers and other things that normally she would’ve had to. Maybe that’s part of the reason? I have an interview at 2:15 on Tuesday. I wish I would’ve said 2:30, not sure how I’m going to change clothes since I’m not done with work until 2:00. Maybe in the car?! I’m not a fashionista—-can I wear black pants with huge flair bottoms? I just bought them for the interview but I’m not sure they’re appropriate. I’ll try r personals later. Love you all

Hi all. Getting close to 8 and I'm already thinking of going up to read It was busy most of the day which kept me occupied, but not enough to stay out of the home made carrot cake in the break room I had a piece, scrapped off most of the frosting and tracked it. I don't even like carrot cake usually but this was good. This customer brings it every year and then later usually brings a big bucket of Chocolate chip cookies. I keep fighting the best I can. Tonight we had bean burritos, low points, I didn't eat my snacks or pudding at work, so sort of balanced the cake out some what. The snow has melted a lot, still cold but going back up by next week. I'm getting my mind set for 2 more days this week, will do a few hours on Saturday and then leave me some time to have a weekend. Hope you are all having a great evening. See you tomorrow. Jan
