Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

SHAPING UP FOR SPRING EQUINOX! February 11 - March 31
Spring is coming!
Supportive Friends Progress not Perfection Renewal of Being Inspiration New Habits Great Success!
This can be your Spring! This can be your success! No more rationalizing and making excuses.
This challenge isn't just about being alcohol free though it is the focus of the board. It is about finding and giving encouragement, getting healthy, loving ourselves, and finding what works and what doesn't. This is NOT about making ourselves feel badly about the unhealthy choices, it is about celebrating the healthy ones. So let's go for it!
As always, the rules aren't complicated. Simply no alcohol and staying on your food plan. If you get off track, don't give up....don't throw away the day, the night, the week. We are working on progress not perfection.
You may have alcohol issues that you cannot manage on your own and our group is here to support you and encourage you to get the help you might need. You may have alcohol issues that you can control but have to exert the motivation and our group is here to support you.
Spring clean your cupboard early! If you have junk food, tempting alcohol, or trigger foods in your kitchen, you are setting yourself up for failure. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is always going to happen. Don't make it easier for yourself to give in to it. Assess your kitchen, ask if this helps or hinders me. DO NOT have sentimental attachment to food or alcohol. The stuff will always be there, it does not magically disappeared but your health can be compromised! This is your life! Make it the best!
REMEMBER…. 1. Work the Plan and the Plan works! Think of your new eating plan as a lifestyle change -- one that will have ups and downs, with good days and (very few) bad.
2. Don't deprive yourself. A food plan should be about SATISFACTION. Find foods you LOVE that will help you meet your goal.
3. Drink lots of water. Water is good for you.
4. Listen to your body. It knows things. Pay close attention to your body cues.
5. Live one day (or even one MEAL) at a time. Don't be discouraged and beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. Just get back on with lots of helping hands.
6. Get exercise with activities you enjoy. If you don't like what you are doing, then you won't stick with it.
7. Keep track of what you eat. Write it down. You WILL 100% without a doubt make better choices if you hold yourself accountable for what you eat by keeping a food journal. (kinda sorta HG ideas)

Good morning and happy Monday! Yesterday was good. Church yesterday morning was great. Came home and puttered around the house and then went back to church last night. We have started something new where the ladies meet and have Bible study and then small group discussion. Men meet separately and do the same thing. It was really fabulous. They expected maybe 40 women to show up and there were 175!! We will do this 3 Sunday nights a month. I really enjoyed it. No big plans for the day. I am going to work on getting my tax info together. Just need to print off some stuff and then will call the tax guy to schedule an appointment. I usually end up owing less than $5.00 and I expect this will be the same. I have laundry going now. BBL Murphy

Trying to get my mind around going back to work already It will be fine, just would love another day. I had a good day, sorted tubs upstairs, all my finished knitting in one, cabin things to take up in one, emptied one. Made a list of things I'd maybe like to enter in the fair this year. Figured out my dinners for most nights this week, finished my Owl hat, just have to bind off and it's sewing it together so need to focus. Watched Remember the Titans, forgot how much I enjoyed that movie. Got some AP dancing around to the good movie in the film! Mostly a couch day but did get some things done. It was an amazing sunrise this morning, always starts my day off on a good note. Each day this week is supposed to get a bit warmer with maybe even a 50 degree in there. Can't believe it's already the last full week of February. Still wondering if we'll get another blast of winter, crazy times. Hope you all have a great week. Jan Murphy Sounds like you really enjoyed church and the women's meeting. That was a good sized group. GL getting your tax info together and getting it done. We still owed the feds a bit but will come out ahead finally this year. And hoping with DH going off the Marketplace in April we will finally get a handle on our taxes Hooray. Thanks for starting us. Cathy HOpe the internet get sorted out, or at least it's good enough for you to do what you have to do! Did you have your pink party? Carole Enjoy your day. Glad you got to go to the Pavilion with your dad. Are you working on a large or small x stitch? GL on your interview tomorrow. Cindy Take all the time you need to process. It's going to take a while for sure. Glad you can be in contact with your DSIL and share your thoughts. How is DS taking it? Hugs and more hugs. Amy Do you still feel like you want all the treats while on the meds? Is you appetite less or do you still crave certain things? I am already going around in my head about how to stay out of the junk at work today. When it's stressful there, it's just such a reaction to dive into the MMs. I just keep telling myself tomorrow is WI and it will not help me get where I want to be. Hope you get to have yoga tonight and that the weather is good for walking today. Or you can always go in the basement and become Jiggle Free Are you trying to see all the Oscar movies this year? Waving hi. I will check in after work, do my junk food accountability check.

DH & I took the golf cart to the top of the hill to walk yesterday around noon (we were waiting for it to warm up a bit). The sun was warm and the wind not too bad. When we got back I moved the laundry along, had lunch, a bit of couch time, then got the beading supplies out to make a few ornaments. I experimented with orange and purple to make 2 Halloween pixies. I was short on my steps so I went down to the basement to do a 20-minute Turbo Jam workout. We had grilled pork chops and a salad for dinner. I went to bed at the usual time but read a little too long.
It's sunny this morning, right around 30. DD has a checkup with her neurologist in Marietta this morning.
Jan- WTG steps 10/11, stretches, blue dot, AF, no junk at work or in your Walmart cart on Saturday, finishing hat. Yay for time off with your sis on Friday. Enjoy stitching on the stockings. I wonder if the fro-yo bark would have been better if I froze it overnight.
Cindy- I'm glad you checked in and I feel your post was well written. It is considerate of you to not want to take the focus off DSIL at the visiting hours. I understand about wanting the special urn. Maybe you will feel differently about the funeral by the time the urn is ready. It's so tragic that your nephew also passed a little over a year ago, I can't imagine what you and your family are going through. Loving hugs!
Carole- Yay for working out with your Dad at the pavilion. Sounds like you had a nice Sunday, enjoy your day off.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Glad you had a good Sunday and a big turnout at the evening Bible study.
Cathy- Sorry the internet has been more off than on.

Jan- WTG steps 9/11, stretches, AP, blue dot, AF, sorting tubs. Yay for an amazing sunrise and warmer weather. I feel like I adjusted to the dose of the medication somewhat and my appetite is almost back to normal. I go from 5 units to 10 units tomorrow, so it will be interesting to see if things change with my appetite. I do want to see the Oscar movies, I need to get busy on that.

I've been productive this morning. I finally got all my tax info printed. The printer wasn't working so I rebooted it and that seemed to clear things up. I called and scheduled my appointment with the CPA but it's not for a month. I don't expect any refund so I'm in no hurry. Then I called to check on the sewing machine and it's still not ready. The repair guy won't be back in until next Monday so it will be at least another week before it's ready. Gave myself a manicure. I'm going to work a bit in the kitchen. I cooked the pork roast yesterday and I'm going to mix that meat with some BBQ sauce to have in the freezer.
Cathy - hope the internet gets sorted out for you!
Jan - you got a lot accomplished yesterday!! WTG getting meals planned out for the week. I do so much better if I plan out my week.
Amy - I have grilled pork chops planned for this week too! Do you have your garden planned out yet?
Cindy - I know it is a sacrifice to not go to your brother's service but that is very kind of you. Maybe circumstances will allow you to go later for the internment. Keeping you in my prayers friend!
Carole - glad you had a good time with your dad.
Going to enjoy a quiet day and get ready to go be with DB tomorrow. Hope everyone has a wonderful day! Murphy

Hi girls. Not much going on. Friday night I was in the process of making dinner and the power went out. DH was in town so I had him pick up dinner. It’s a good thing I did. It never came back on until 4:00 am! We lost 3 different surge protectors, but nothing that was plugged into them! So that was a good thing! Yesterday DS invited us up for a turkey dinner done in his smoker. It was delicious and we got to bring the carcass home, so we’ll have Turkey soup soon! While there, Jackson showed me his Oculas. It’s one of those things you put on your head and you are in a room. He turned on a fishing game for me and it was so weird! He would say something to me and I would look at him and he wasn’t there! I could only see the pond! DS came in and told Jackson, don’t let your grandma fall and get hurt! lol There was a fishing chair there and Jack said, whatever you do, don’t sit in it! There’s not really a chair there! Today we went in to talk with our financial advisor and of course had lunch out. Points add up fast when you eat out several times a week. Plus I had the pie Thursday, a small piece of cake yesterday, and a yummy dessert at DD’s. Oh well, gotta keep plugging along! Tomorrow after the Y I have an eye doctor appointment. And Weds is Bible study. Will pop in when I can!
Cindy: So glad you posted. You were so considerate of your DSIL!
Carole: Good luck on your interview tomorrow!
Jan: You get so much done! I got home from our appointment and just sat all afternoon! I have the time, just not the motivation! I also am in need of a B12 shot!
Amy: I couldn’t believe your pictures on FB! So much spring foliage!
Murphy: I know how much it means to you to be able to be with DB and DSIL! I’m sure it means just as much to them!
