Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

SHAPING UP FOR SPRING! February 11 - March 31
Spring is coming!
Supportive Friends Progress not Perfection Renewal of Being Inspiration New Habits Great Success!
This can be your Spring! This can be your success! No more rationalizing and making excuses.
This challenge isn't just about being alcohol free though it is the focus of the board. It is about finding and giving encouragement, getting healthy, loving ourselves, and finding what works and what doesn't. This is NOT about making ourselves feel badly about the unhealthy choices, it is about celebrating the healthy ones. So let's go for it!
As always, the rules aren't complicated. Simply no alcohol and staying on your food plan. If you get off track, don't give up....don't throw away the day, the night, the week. We are working on progress not perfection.
You may have alcohol issues that you cannot manage on your own and our group is here to support you and encourage you to get the help you might need. You may have alcohol issues that you can control but have to exert the motivation and our group is here to support you.
Spring clean your cupboard early! If you have junk food, tempting alcohol, or trigger foods in your kitchen, you are setting yourself up for failure. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is always going to happen. Don't make it easier for yourself to give in to it. Assess your kitchen, ask if this helps or hinders me. DO NOT have sentimental attachment to food or alcohol. The stuff will always be there, it does not magically disappeared but your health can be compromised! This is your life! Make it the best!
REMEMBERā¦. 1. Work the Plan and the Plan works! Think of your new eating plan as a lifestyle change -- one that will have ups and downs, with good days and (very few) bad.
2. Don't deprive yourself. A food plan should be about SATISFACTION. Find foods you LOVE that will help you meet your goal.
3. Drink lots of water. Water is good for you.
4. Listen to your body. It knows things. Pay close attention to your body cues.
5. Live one day (or even one MEAL) at a time. Don't be discouraged and beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. Just get back on with lots of helping hands.
6. Get exercise with activities you enjoy. If you don't like what you are doing, then you won't stick with it.
7. Keep track of what you eat. Write it down. You WILL 100% without a doubt make better choices if you hold yourself accountable for what you eat by keeping a food journal. (kinda sorta HG ideas)

Good Morning All!
Yesterday was such a beautiful day I turned off the heat in the house. My last electric bill was way high. There always seems to be one each year. I know they don't read the meter every month so maybe it is just a catch up bill.
Going out to lunch with my talkative friend. Hoping it will get me back on track somewhat.
Will check in later today! I believe Murphy was having appointments this morning and then off to see her brother.
Hugs to all, Cindy

DH & I took the golf cart to the nature trail to walk, the weather was really nice and I really didn't need the light jacket. When we got back I filled the bird feeders in the back, the birds have busy there despite the neighbor's cat stalking them. I cleaned the golf cart windshield, they had washed it in the shop, but the windshield was very spotty. I had leftover chicken lettuce wraps for lunch and then some couch time. I got my second strength training session for the week and some more steps. We finished up the vegetable soup for dinner, with grilled pastrami sandwiches. They've been doing Jane Austen themed movies on the Hallmark channel this month so I re-watched Sense and Sensibiity with Emma Thompson last night. I finally got a decent night's sleep.
It rained overnight and is still gloomy but I think the rain is mostly gone. It's in the 50's still, heading to the 60's. Today is our 50th wedding anniversary. Who would have thought? We're going to go out for lunch to a restaurant in Acworth next to the park that we've never been to.
Liz- Socializing is good for you, you'll figure out how to get back on the AF wagon. GL at the GYN.
Carole- Yay for a nice day and a walk with DH without the dogs. GL with your diet bet, enjoy the bridal shower.
Cindy- Thanks for getting us started. Yay for beautiful weather and turning the heat off in the house. Sorry about the high electric bill. Enjoy lunch out with your talkative friend.
Cathy- Enjoy your meal out, yay for the scale staying down so far.

Good morning all! Went for my mammogram and bone scan this morning. Both were at the same place so that's convenient. After I donated blood yesterday, I called DSIL and offered to come up and I thought she was going to cry. So I headed up there and spent most of the day. It really takes 2 people to do everything for DB. When I got there, he was a little confused and a little combative but calmed down. Still not sleeping much at night. I may go up one evening and spend the night so DSIL could get some sleep. I spoke with her this morning and one of her brothers is coming to spend the day.
Thanks for starting us Cindy! Sorry for the lack of personals. My brain is just mush! Murphy

Off the rails yesterday and will try to do better today, ha, sis brought huge cinnamon rolls from the Amish bakery, a strawberry rhubarb pie, DH baked brownies and we're having Philly cheese steaks for dinner. It is what it is and by Saturday I will be BOT. I feel like yesterday after my mammo and blood work I just wanted to eat. I know that's from the fasting and then I get too hungry. It was really busy at work and Sis said she wasn't coming until later so I worked the whole 6 1/2 hours and then was beat when I got home. I did revive to make dinner because I really thought about just going out, but glad we stayed home. I did at least scrape all the frosting off the little cupcake at work, tracked 12 pts for the MMs and pretzels and probably think I ate worse than I really did. I was excited to get my lab results last night, my cholesterol is down over 20 points and in the normal range, along with everything else. NSV! Doesn't sound like sis is interested in a pedi today, $$$, but we will be heading off to Michaels, the garden store, Steins, the vintage place and maybe the thrift store. Sure lunch will be thrown in there somewhere but it will need to be a place I can get a good salad. Feel like I haven't seen anything green in a week! Then we'll be home to work on projects. She is getting excited about doing some craft fairs this year with me and has been crocheting some fun things. It's nice because her wares are way different than mine so we'll see how it all works out. Feels like it gives me a purpose to keep making all my crafts. Of course I keep thinking it's Saturday so will feel like a bonus weekend, even if I go into work a few hours on Sunday to work on some files. HOpe you all have a great day and weekend. Will check back later. Jan Cindy Thanks for starting us. We have missed you for sure. Glad the weather has been improving and maybe the lunch out with a friend will help you focus on some new things. Hugs. Carole GL on the diet bet. You always pull it out at the end Hope you hear about the job soon. Have fun at your shower. Cathy Enjoy your friends, I always figure if we are at least conscious about the scale and our food choices it's better than when I just ate whatever. Liz You are living what works for you right now. Just keep checking in because we enjoy your friendship and stories. When the right time hits, you will decide what you want to do next. Enjoy lunch and retail therapy with your friend. I think its so strange for me each day lately that my head and heart are actually in sync and the AF days are feeling easy and I really want to continue. For so long my heart wanted one thing but my head told me a different story. I also know it can change at any minute and I still need to be so diligent. I track on my sober ap, dry ap, check in with WW connect dry group and here!! Hugs to you. Amy Happy Anniversary. Enjoy your lunch out and exploring the new park. The cat meme is so funny, that was me last night. DH has been sleeping in the other room when I was sick so having him back in bed last night with my sis here was not great for my sleep. Couldn't stretch out on the whole bed, find the cool parts of the sheets, of course he is like an extra heater. Then having him up reading until after midnight, guess I got spoiled having the bed and covers to myself! Will you do anything fun for dinner too with the kids there? Enjoy your day, hope the rain is gone. Murphy So glad you could go help out you DSIL. I'm sure she is just overwhelmed. yay for the Dr tests being in the same place. I got lucky yesterday, went for my mammo, got right in and then walked over to the lab to see if I could just wait for a blood draw since I was already there. I had barely sat down to wait and the called me in. 2 things off my list and now see the Dr on March 4 and hope that's it for the year. Waving hi. Time for sis and I to go get into some "good trouble"

Wow. Monday was the last time I posted! Somehow I tweaked my back. It may have been when I helped Rylee get out of the tree when she was here. The 2 things that mess me up are picking up something heavy and bending over to pick things up off the floor. Plus I have been walking more and that could have contributed. Anyway, I didnāt go to water class on Tuesday but did go later and did some water yoga and walking. It felt better afterwards. Then went to my eye dr. Just the very beginning of cataracts and no change in vision. They did adjust my glasses so they stay up better. Yesterday I went to class, and ātriedā not to go full force, but that is so hard! I was sore afterwards but now know which moves seems to bother it. DD is coming tomorrow with Rylee. Rylee insisted on getting her hair cut and I canāt wait to see it in person. She looks adorable of course! š I was up 1 pound on Weds. and went into a junk food frenzy that night. Not really, but I had 2 snack bags, plus a quest bar, and then saw where DH bought ice cream. š¤·š¼āāļø Iām doing my best not to forget about WW until next week. I did have an OP day yesterday, only by not stopping anywhere to buy candy and snacks. I might see if DH wants to go to a fish fry tonight. The church we go to has baked fish and a baked potato option, plus dessert. At least it would be a small piece! Weāll see how the day goes. The one thing I have to do today is call my dr and pharmacy. Iām now at CVS and they keep sending stuff to my old pharmacy. Hopefully we can get it straightened out easily! BTW, even though I havenāt been posting, Iāve been reading each day.
Cindy: Itās good to see you posting again. I hope the sunshine and having lunch with your friend brightens your day.
Murphy: Iām so sorry for what your DB and DSIL are going through. Itās got to be so hard to watch. Are they able to get some help to come in? And your choir director retiring! Ugh! How long has he been there? We only have about 15 in our choir. I donāt think ours will ever leave because that would probably be the end of ours. But you have so many options Iām sure!
Jan: Iām really proud of you with working and working your plan! And posting daily! By the time I think about posting my brain is tired! Plus you are getting your knitting done as well! Enjoy the time with Dsis today!
Amy: Happy 50th Anniversary! What a milestone! Itās crazy to think how quickly it has come looking back, isnāt it? Sorry about the ANIM. After being AF for 2 months, Iām pretty sure mine is back to where he was.
Carole: You absolutely can do .3 pounds! When will you hear bout the job? I talk about how quickly time goes looking back, but when youāre waiting, goodness it seems slow!
Liz: Sounds like you are enjoying life! After your 2 martinis at the restaurant do you continue at home? It is such a mind game with A. Who am I kidding, itās also a mind game with eating!
Cathy: Hope you can chat with family this weekend! When is your Pretty in Pink party?
And this is why I get nothing done at home. Itās already 11:30. I got up at 9 and Iām still in my nightgown on the couch. Oh well. Enjoy your day friends! Itās cold here but sunny! šāļø

Hi All!
So much for posting earlier...will do better. Lunch was a three hour affair and though I got up to refill the ice tea glasses, I had difficulty getting out of the booth. My friend asked me if she could help but told her I would drop to the floor and crawl to the next table to get off the floor. She looked at me like I was serious...I kinda was, lol. I know I'm having more RA issues, the infusion isn't lasting as long and Tylenol isn't covering it. Guess I will be adding another drug which the doctor mentioned last time. Came home very tired, bought an extra meal at the restaurant so DS has been munching on it. I ate less than half my lunch so he has lots to munch on. Heading to bed soon, taking Tylenol PM and hope that helps.
So with that said, hopefully be chatting tomorrow with all.
Hugs, Cindy
