Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

SHAPING UP FOR SPRING! February 11 - March 31
Spring is coming!
Supportive Friends Progress not Perfection Renewal of Being Inspiration New Habits Great Success!
This can be your Spring! This can be your success! No more rationalizing and making excuses.
This challenge isn't just about being alcohol free though it is the focus of the board. It is about finding and giving encouragement, getting healthy, loving ourselves, and finding what works and what doesn't. This is NOT about making ourselves feel badly about the unhealthy choices, it is about celebrating the healthy ones. So let's go for it!
As always, the rules aren't complicated. Simply no alcohol and staying on your food plan. If you get off track, don't give up....don't throw away the day, the night, the week. We are working on progress not perfection.
You may have alcohol issues that you cannot manage on your own and our group is here to support you and encourage you to get the help you might need. You may have alcohol issues that you can control but have to exert the motivation and our group is here to support you.
Spring clean your cupboard early! If you have junk food, tempting alcohol, or trigger foods in your kitchen, you are setting yourself up for failure. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is always going to happen. Don't make it easier for yourself to give in to it. Assess your kitchen, ask if this helps or hinders me. DO NOT have sentimental attachment to food or alcohol. The stuff will always be there, it does not magically disappeared but your health can be compromised! This is your life! Make it the best!
REMEMBER…. 1. Work the Plan and the Plan works! Think of your new eating plan as a lifestyle change -- one that will have ups and downs, with good days and (very few) bad.
2. Don't deprive yourself. A food plan should be about SATISFACTION. Find foods you LOVE that will help you meet your goal.
3. Drink lots of water. Water is good for you.
4. Listen to your body. It knows things. Pay close attention to your body cues.
5. Live one day (or even one MEAL) at a time. Don't be discouraged and beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. Just get back on with lots of helping hands.
6. Get exercise with activities you enjoy. If you don't like what you are doing, then you won't stick with it.
7. Keep track of what you eat. Write it down. You WILL 100% without a doubt make better choices if you hold yourself accountable for what you eat by keeping a food journal. (kinda sorta HG ideas)

Good morning all. Had a really nice day yesterday and I'm mostly mentally ready to go back to work. Of course the sun is shining and it's going to be nice, but I did get to just sit outside yesterday for a bit and enjoy feeling the sun on my face. DH even took a long bike ride! I got most of my steps shopping yesterday, Walmart, Joannes, Target and the grocery. Got some more heavy yarn, almost have finished my first hat. We have plenty of LO in the fridge for dinner and I'm trying to stay under my 23 points today before WI tomorrow. I know the scale will do it's own thing but if I end the week with weeklies and drink my water today I know I really did OK and the numbers will catch up. Have breakfast and lunch planned and tracked, so far they would use 7 points for an omlette, tuna sandwich, lots of fruits, veggies and a cup of popcorn. Now to stay out of the junk. I'll check in this afternoon to see how I do. Guess I better get moving, I want to get to work a bit earlier just in case I want to leave a bit before 3. Have a great Monday all, Jan
Amy Thanks for getting us started.

I had a nice, quiet Sunday. After DH & I took the golf cart to the top of the hill to walk, I had lunch and then got out my beading supplies. I had to quit after a couple of hours b/c I was getting a headache from squinting to find the holes in the tiny beads. I had some couch time (no nap) and then went down to the basement to do a 20 minute video to get more steps. We had fish sticks and clam chowder for dinner. I went to bed a bit earlier b/c I was tired. I slept pretty well although was awakened early by the trash trucks and texts from the peeps in my yoga class. The instructor is sick, so no yoga tonight.
It's another pretty day, starting out in the 40's, heading to 70. I think it's supposed to be a warm week, but with rain in the forecast.
Jan- WTG steps 11/11, PU, stretches, blue dot, AF on Saturday. Yay for getting your state refund. Sorry your weather is such a roller coaster. I mix a bit of caramel corn or chocolate drizzle popcorn in with Skinny Pop. I like the sweet/salty combo. Our last frost date is supposed to be the middle of April. I'm not going to plant my garden until we get back from our trip the first week of May, but I may put out some dahlias, plant zinnias, etc. before we leave. My DH liked Barbie, we saw it in the theater. I've had reflux for years, but it's worse on the semaglutide if I forget to take Prilosec.
Carole- Sorry Costco was such a zoo. GL with the MRI on Wednesday. Bill is doing well, shadows DH most of the time. I hardly wear makeup at all anymore and can hardly stand even mascara.
Cathy- Sorry the scale is up, glad you are ready to get BOT. Glad you had a clear internet connection for your son and granddaughters, sorry it was not good when talking with your daughter. Hope you able to plan and enjoy a nice trip with her.

Hi All!
Feeling better for whatever reason, not quite as stiff and did get more sleep. Probably helped.
Amy, thanks for getting us started. Sorry that the yoga class is cancelled. I've seen Barbie, Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon. Not sure when I will get to the others. We hit 90 degrees today so not ready for it.
Jan, glad you got your state refund. Finally doing my taxes and will have them looked over. DS simply sees friend/girl as a friend. She is very quiet so I can't complain and she was helpful working with DS. I just feel she stays a bit too long. With DS's birthday this week I need to confirm with DS that she won't be here, his choice (and I'm glad). Thanks for the suggestions. I really need to take a hard look at my lousy eating patterns and stay on an anti-inflammation plan. I have three wonderful cookbooks that address it.
Happy Birthday GG!
Carole, Costco seems to be more crowded in our area. Good luck with the MRI and I hope you get quick results. I'm still an eyeliner, mascara, lip stick person....I sound old school. Infusion will be first week in March.
Cathy, hope you are able to make a great plan with your daughter. Hope the internet clears up! Glad you are able to be with friends and having a good time!
Hi Liz! How are things?
Murphy, thinking about you.
I've developed a bad habit of not opening my mail. I keep getting letters from my mortgage company providing different services. I finally opened up them today and one asked me if I had received a refund check from them and if not contact them. So I opened all the envelopes and there was a check! It came at a perfect time! So guess I will start opening my mail.
Talked to my SIL and she is doing okay. We both broke down a bit. My brother was a beloved teacher and she is still hearing from former students. I just keep telling her to take her time, no timeline on grief, don't let anyone give you "advice" unless you ask. Her sister is not being any help and keeps complaining about her own problems and how miserable her life is....ummmm, you have your husband and your kids.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful day! I've missed chatting.
Hugs, Cindy

Hi all. Just had some LO enchilada for dinner and DH is making nachos with some leftover steak from the other night. I like when we just can eat what we want and no one has to cook I worked almost 6 hours today and will tomorrow too. Will get there a little later so I can stay for my WW meeting. Not hoping for any positive scale movement but still going to check in. Dropped off a load of groceries at the food bank after work, glad to get those out of the house. Now just hanging on the couch. Saw on the news where we will get the weird weather the next few days, 70 tomorrow, snow flurries the next morning and high around 25 or so. DS had called here before I got home so DH got to talk to him, he said Miami will start letting people know if they got interviews for school the first 2 weeks of March. Fingers Crossed. I just had my girl scout "dealer" drop off my 2 boxes of cookies. Now to stay out of them at least until after WI tomorrow No other evening plans, maybe watch a bit of the Bachelor, then up to read. Hope you all have a great evening. See you in the morning. Jan Cindy 90! Yikes. So not ready for that! Happy that you were feeling a bit better today, sleep always helps. I seriously need to cut back on the carbs and sugar. Hard when they are your favorite food group Yay for getting a check back from the mortgage company. Have fun on DS birthday, how old it he now, about 9? What kind of cake does he want? Hope the Gfish doesn't but in. Amy Sorry there is no yoga tonight but I know you will get in your steps or do a jiggle free video Hope the headache from the beading didn't hang around. Today I just did plain popcorn for lunch. I remember getting the ice cream in a box. My mom or dad would open the entire carton up and then slice it with a knife. Carole Any news? Sorry you had to face Costco on the weekend. I try to never go Friday-Sunday but sometimes you can't help it. When is your spring break? Cathy Glad the internet was better for talking to the GK. Hope you and DD can find a fun place to go this year. How was your tracking and being OP today? GG Happy Birthday!!! Are you eating the cake? Cute pictures wiht Rylee on FB. Hi Liz and Muprhy and any lurkers

Hi friends! It was beautiful today! I actually wore shorts! (AND they fit!) I helped make 300 tortilla bowls today—I asked why they couldn’t just use chips! My burned finger is not a happy camper—the skin peeled off and it can’t really heal fast because it’s wet so much. I keep putting hydrogen peroxide on it, so I hope it doesn’t get infected.
Amy, any news from your work? I bought some sunflower seeds, I may try to start those in the house and plant them —see what happens.
Jan, spring break is March 23. We leave for FL on the 22!!! I’m so excited. I haven’t heard anything, hopefully good news tomorrow 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Gg-happiest of birthdays!
Cindy, your DSIL sister sounds horrible. I’m sorry it’s one more thing she has to deal with. 🙏🏻😘🙏🏻😘🙏🏻
