Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

SHAPING UP FOR SPRING! February 11 - March 31
Spring is coming!
Supportive Friends Progress not Perfection Renewal of Being Inspiration New Habits Great Success!
This can be your Spring! This can be your success! No more rationalizing and making excuses.
This challenge isn't just about being alcohol free though it is the focus of the board. It is about finding and giving encouragement, getting healthy, loving ourselves, and finding what works and what doesn't. This is NOT about making ourselves feel badly about the unhealthy choices, it is about celebrating the healthy ones. So let's go for it!
As always, the rules aren't complicated. Simply no alcohol and staying on your food plan. If you get off track, don't give up....don't throw away the day, the night, the week. We are working on progress not perfection.
You may have alcohol issues that you cannot manage on your own and our group is here to support you and encourage you to get the help you might need. You may have alcohol issues that you can control but have to exert the motivation and our group is here to support you.
Spring clean your cupboard early! If you have junk food, tempting alcohol, or trigger foods in your kitchen, you are setting yourself up for failure. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is always going to happen. Don't make it easier for yourself to give in to it. Assess your kitchen, ask if this helps or hinders me. DO NOT have sentimental attachment to food or alcohol. The stuff will always be there, it does not magically disappeared but your health can be compromised! This is your life! Make it the best!
REMEMBERā¦. 1. Work the Plan and the Plan works! Think of your new eating plan as a lifestyle change -- one that will have ups and downs, with good days and (very few) bad.
2. Don't deprive yourself. A food plan should be about SATISFACTION. Find foods you LOVE that will help you meet your goal.
3. Drink lots of water. Water is good for you.
4. Listen to your body. It knows things. Pay close attention to your body cues.
5. Live one day (or even one MEAL) at a time. Don't be discouraged and beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. Just get back on with lots of helping hands.
6. Get exercise with activities you enjoy. If you don't like what you are doing, then you won't stick with it.
7. Keep track of what you eat. Write it down. You WILL 100% without a doubt make better choices if you hold yourself accountable for what you eat by keeping a food journal. (kinda sorta HG ideas)

Good Morning!
Thought I'd sleep in but Ainsley had other ideas. It is a blustery morning and isn't suppose to get much higher than sixty. Glad because ninety was just too much.
Finished the Elvis movie. I really enjoyed it and had tears at the end.
Off to add more trash to the barrel. Will be back later.
Hugs, Cindy

There is snow on the ground but hope it will all start to melt again tomorrow as we head back to the 40's. Won't be so bad siting inside at work today, sure don't want to be out. Grateful the sun is at least shining as it looks pretty. I'll need to knock the snow off the bird feeders and put some seed out. I did nothing last night, ate some pie before bed, duh, and then even tho I was tired, read until almost 11, which I said I wouldn't do. Hate when the book just sucks you in. I'm at that part where I know I can't finish it but I just keep going. Could be worse ways to use my evening I guess! Going to work to get my exercise bar this morning before I go to work, just too beat by the time I get home. Today is less appointments at least as the "boss" works to get caught up. She is NOT liking the job and responsibility but they have no one else. She's told them they need to find someone next year, she'll still work but doesn't want to be Head Honcho, too much stress. Guess I better get moving, if I'm going to get "moving" before work Happy Hump Day all. I will check in later. Jan Cindy Thanks for starting us. Loved your post from yesterday, glad you were feeling well enough to run all the errands and get the taxes done. You wouldn't believe some of the stories people bring in, and mostly their complete ignorance about their money, where it goes, how they get paid, what their 401's are doing while their money guys rip them off. It's been an education for sure. Glad you're getting a refund. Have a great Birthday with DS, glad you can make him what he loves for dinner. I baked the Strawberry-Rhubarb pie that sis brought last weekend, my excuse was to get it out of the freezer. Hmm. At least DH will eat some of it and there is no ice cream in the house to go with it, at least for now. Waving hi to all. Time for more coffee.

DH & I took the golf cart to the clubhouse to walk yesterday morning. We don't usually take the golf cart as far as the clubhouse as there is ongoing road construction, but DH wanted to see how far the new battery will take us. While we were at the amenities we stopped in the Activities office to get DD's pass/ID. There are always folks on the walking paths, many walk their dogs there. When we were done walking we went on to Publix for a few things. On the way home we stopped by a veteran's memorial that was dedicated last fall. It overlooks where the new pool will be, it's a nice view. When we got back I had lunch and couch time. We had pulled chicken sandwiches for dinner with chips and dip. After dinner DH & I watched Oppenheimer. I had to turn on the closed caption as it was hard to make out the dialog. I wasn't sure what was going on or who a lot of the characters were for the first half of the movie, but it was easier to follow in the second half. I guess it deserves all the awards it's winning, 3 hours is a long time for a movie.
It's cloudy and windy this morning, 71 degrees already. A cold front is coming though with rain and dropping back to the 30's overnight. The HVAC guy is here for preventive maintenance, hopefully he doesn't find anything to fix. My headache was better yesterday and seems okay today despite taking another dose yesterday. I posted on the FB support group, several people said they also get headaches for a few days after a dose.
Vicki- Yay for enjoying lots of birthday desserts, WTG getting BOT. Sorry Addison has a stomach bug.
Jan- WTG steps 10/11, 105 PU!, stretches, blue dot, AF. Sorry for the crazy day at work & those darn M&Ms. 16 degrees- yikes! Hope today is better with less appointments. Sorry the boss doesn't like being the boss. Saying "motivation failed me" sounds better than "I was too lazy", LOL.
Cindy- Thanks for getting us started. Yay for getting a tax refund. When I hear Nigeria, I also think scam. Hope DS enjoys his birthday pasta and lots of freebies. We still have leftover Halloween candy, I didn't buy any for Christmas. Glad your achiness is better. Was the Elvis movie the one with Austin Butler? Sorry you were up early with Ainsley.
Cathy- Hope you get back online soon.

M-W Word of the Day
jeopardy noun | JEP-er-dee What It Means Jeopardy is defined as "exposure to or imminence of death, loss, or injury"; it is synonymous with danger. In legal contexts, jeopardy refers specifically to the danger that an accused person is subjected to when on trial for a criminal offense. // Rather than risk placing passengers in jeopardy, the pilot waited for the storm to pass before taking off.

I was -163 weeklies and lost .8. Letās hope I donāt bounce back up next week! I lost 2 pounds for the month. BUT really enjoyed my food! I go to the doctor this afternoon to get my carotid artery blockage checked. Afterwards we are eating at our favorite Italian restaurant next door. I will track and enjoy, and get back to normal eating the rest of the week. Thatās my plan! Goodness,I almost just had a heart attack! I was typing and a stink bug crawled up on my screen! I threw my iPad and then couldnāt find it! I even had DH check my clothes! Well THAT certainly got my heart pumping! š
Cindy: I would NEVER have any candy leftover! How fun to go on a Leap Year scavenger hunt! Especially for a 9 year old! š
Amy: When I saw the lions, I thought of March coming in like a Lion. But I liked the dandy lions! I saw some daffodils blooming on the way to the Y yesterday. I also noticed that there were 2 little primrose flowers blooming by our mailbox!
Jan: I love/hate those books! Just one more chapter! And 2 hours later, just one more chapter! Itās crazy that it was 16 at your house today! Unfortunately, your weather is coming our way tomorrow!
Carole: When will you get the results from your MRI?

Hi friends! I still havenāt heard about the supervisor job. Iām assuming I didnāt get it. Iām going to take the production assistant job and see what happens over the summer. I already burned my forearm and back of my arm when I backed onto the pizzas! Last night I went to dinner with my dad. It lightening the whole time. When we left it was starting to rain and the tornado sirens were going off. By the time I got home it was pouring, windy and hailing. I was scared! MRI went fine, I kept my eyes closed the whole time so I wouldnāt freak out. Iām supposed to find out in 1-2 business days. Sunday Iām going to brunch with some of the gym girls. Iām going to be AF. I was AF at the shower but ate 3 big cookies and stopped at Walgreens for a big bag of m&ms š¤¦š¼āāļøš¤¦š¼āāļø
Amy, were you happy with the golf cart? Did it make it back ok?
Jan, Rowan, Lexās cat, got neutered today. She said he really fought the anesthesia so they had to give him a lot! Iām almost done with my book, I tried reading last night but couldnāt keep my eyes open.
Gg, sounds like you had a great birthday! Itās good to spend the points when itās worth it!!
Cindy, I love the idea of a scavenger hunt! I remember when beanie babies from McDonaldās were popular. My brother and I went looking and my mom was the inspiration behind it!
Hello to all! Have a great night!

Hi all. Just chilling on the couch. Had steak and potatoes for dinner and I'm FULL. I know I need to eat slower, think I was getting Hangry, but I did stay out of all the junk at work!! Now to do it again tomorrow. Tonight at 10 is the Oregon/Oregon State BB game that DH wants to see but doesn't want to stay up that late. I think DS can record it for us and we can watch it out of the library when we want. We are on his you tube TV and haven't figured out how to save shows, I think it's because we need his log in to record. After work I went to Aldis to get a few things, bought myself a nice puzzle tray I can use on the dining room table. Had drawers for the pieces, is on a lazy susan thing so you can spin it around and has a tough plastic cover that fits over the top to hopefully keep out the cats. I've been wanting to start a puzzle but hate taking up the table and then the cats knock the pieces off. Now I could lift up the whole thing if needed and move it. Of course I also bought some dished I didn't "need". A ceramic square bake pan and a serving platter. Used my fun money so no one can say anything about it Tomorrow it's supposed to be a bit warmer, 30's and then 60's on the weekend. I'm going to do a vintage shop hop on Saturday. Just go snoop 3 or 4 of the stores that will have sales. Guess it's a thing, it's all over Wis, and Ill. OVer 400 shops. Tomorrow I'll go to knitting for a bit, then a full day at work. Glad the weekend is coming. See you all in the morning. Jan Carole Ouch, sorry about the burns on your arm. Can you find out later who did get the job if you didn't? Seems it's usually someone who's already worked in that department or whatever. Hope Lex's kitty feels better by tomorrow. I hope we can keep ours in the basement tonight because its going to be really cold again. Doesn't make them happy but it's only a few more days for now. Sounds like you got a crazy storm. We started with rain last night and woke up to snow, but nothing scary. Prayers for your MRI. Have fun with your friends. MMMM, cookies sound good. GG Maybe you should just go on an all dessert diet, seems to make you lose weight My plan is to go upstairs by 8:30ish tonight to see if I can finish the book, still may be up too late but now I know I'll be right at the end of the mystery and won't be able to stop At least I could sleep a little longer if I want as I'm just going to knitting. Hope you had good news from our Dr this afternoon. Amy Do you take the golf cart back home after your walk and then get the car to go to the store? Are there any groceries close enough to take the cart too? I actually got my AP bar this morning before work and my motivation didn't fail me ha ha How many donuts did your recipe make? I keep kind of looking for a donut pan at the thrift store, haven't found one yet. Not that I need one. NOt sure I could have sat for a 3 hour movie, but good for you turning on the captions. For sure if I couldn't even hear or figure out what they were talking about I would have given up. What movies do you have left? Cindy I was looking up some of the Leap Year deals. Hope you have a fun treasure hunt and get some yummy things to bring home. Was it still warm there today? Where is the big fire burning in Texas? Does it affect your air at all? Waving hi. Need about 300 more steps to make my goal for the day

Hi All!
Snow flurries?? Seriously?? It was ninety on Monday! We never got out of the low thirties. I had to turn the heat back on. My lovely bank (Chase) made double payment on a bill, then put a stop on both payments, I made a new payment with an adjustment amount stated by the bank and then the bank put a stop on that. The electric company sent an email today that I didn't read till this evening ....did I mention I am bad about opening mail, email or post office....and I need to contact them. Need to straighten that out in the morning. I really need to readjust my thinking about not having a physical bank.
Called dentist to ask where are my "teeth"....umm three weeks later, maybe next week so had to cancel my appointment with the dental surgeon that just wants to make sure all is good....thankfully I was able to itemize the teeth fiasco on my taxes.
Okay, enough complaining.
Jan, I'm trying to get my water in. I've cut way back on double fisting Mt Dew and coffee. Haven't quite quit but close. I love reading books that suck me in and will stay up all night. It was the "bane" of my parents and I think it is why I am a lousy sleeper. I'm sorry that the "boss" doesn't want to be the boss. Don't know what her background is but it is a lot to handle. I feel guilty not just submitting my taxes but like the comfort that someone has reviewed them and signed the form with me. Think we are skipping the pie for DS's birthday. If we go and get stuff we should have a sugar rush.
Amy, loved the Dandy Lions! Made me laugh. We watched Oppenheimer in two segments...it was long! Yup that was the Elvis Presley movie with Austin Butler. Glad your headache is better. I hope your cold front isn't like ours! Hope the HVAC guy didn't find any problems. How is Bill doing? Sookie being loving? Annie happy? I washed Ainsley's couch blanket but wouldn't put it back on the sofa since F/G was sitting there and I didn't want her to use it....not quite sure what that says about me.
Vicki, glad you enjoyed all your birthday treats. I'm not sure why I can let candy stay in the house. It is almost a comfort to know it is available but I don't have to have it....I use to go through a bag fairly easily. There is a Lindt Snowman on the kitchen counter and it is just sitting there. Probably should put it in the freezer. Sorry about the stink bug! Yuck! How is Addison feeling? Yay for losing two pounds!
Carole, ouch for your burns. I'm just playing Mother Hen but hope you are doing the necessary stuff to make sure all heals properly. Glad your Dad and you got home safely. When the sirens start going off it does get scary. My town tests them once a month and it can freak me out. Yay for being AF and having a plan to be AF! I close my eyes also during an MRI and count backwards from a 1000. Love the memory of the beanie babies.
HI Liz, Cathy and Murphy!
So the plan is to get the Krispy Kremes first, then the Dunkin Donuts for coffee.....then we will go from there. I made the sauce with chicken today so just need to make the pasta tomorrow. DS has already dipped into the sauce. F/G has been asking what is going on, not quite asking whether she can come over but DS just wants to do our thing. We've always celebrated his "real" day bigger....and now that it is just the two of us....we just make it special with lots of memories.
Umm, my nasty MIL was born on the 28 and I was d*mn if DS was going to be born on that day. DH agreed. Thankfully it worked out! TMI?
Good night, hugs, Cindy
