Lucy I noticed that Kathie somehow got dropped off the list of names. I know she hasnât picked a name yet but maybe add her back?
The vet visit went great! A lot of staff that remembered Bridgette and Bailey are still there and even the doctor when he saw our name on the schedule said to them I knew theyâd be back as Sandy needs a dog in her life. But poor Rosie had to get a shot that was a combo lepo/distemper/parvo as he said the shots the clinicâs vet gives are minimal and some were not given at all and thatâs why they have you see your own vet asap. The lepo comes in two doses so she gets the second dose in four weeks along with the flu shot. He didnât do the flu shot as he felt she had enough things in her system for one day. He did increase her food to 1/3 cup twice a day instead of 1/4. It was funny in that he was going to give her a treat and I said she wonât take anything from your hand and he smiled and said just watch and I smiled back and thought no you watch and she turned her head away so he chuckled and gave me the treat to give her once we got home. I know the shot hurt by the look on her face but no yelping just a side glance at him. It was explained why the boarding could not be scheduled as they have a new process in place which I think is fantastic. You drop off your dog at the kennel for four hours and they do an evaluation as to if they are a good fit. This is a free service. He said they started doing this as too many dogs were brought for boarding who bit his staff and attacked other dogs. Once your dog passes a note is placed in their file saying itâs okay to board. Our vet said with as sweet as she is he does not anticipate any problem. But we wonât do that until she gets the flu shot to be sure sheâs protected. So we have four weeks to work on her walking on the leash as that is one of the requirements. Once she passes Iâll schedule the boarding while weâre there.
Yesterday she was running around the yard just like a free spirit and hit one of the uneven spots and her front legs folded under her and she face planted but popped right up. I couldnât help myself as it looked so funny I laughed. She was fine but not at all happy with me because I laughed. I went to check on her to be sure she was okay and she wanted nothing to do with me as I think it embarrassed her and me laughing compounded the situation. But then she wanted to come in and realized I needed to pick her up so begrudgingly came to the gate and waited for me to pick her up. Once in the house she was fine but it taught me she is very sensitive so no more laughing if something happens. Oh she weighed 12.2 pounds at the vet not the 14.4 it shown on her adoption form.
I also know now she does not like sweaters at all and even with it cold out was happy not to have one on and didnât seem cold. I think part of that is she kept stepping out of the sweaters we bought so a smaller size that fits snugger might work. But as with everything else itâs a work in progress and with it only being since Sunday that we got her I think sheâs doing great. She even tolerated me putting her on my lap and sat there for 20 minutes before wanting down and I think sheâs starting to respond to her name. She was very alert at the vet and watched very closely everything that was happening around her.
Then last night Debbie texted she would be in town today so if we would be home she would stop by around 11 to see Miss Rosie! Made me laugh as no mention about also seeing us! đđ¶đ„° Itâll be interesting to see if she barks at Debbie when she comes in the door. But first thing this morning we have to go to our animal shelter to get her license as even though she got her rabies in another county she still needs the Peoria tag which I kind of thought she would. So have to take the rabies certificate there and pay the $18 fee. The vet staff thought they would let it go but I said well we werenât charged in the other county and I know you donât get tags for free. So it is not an unexpected charge at all but they said since our vet did not give the shot it has to be issued at their office. Next year it can be done at our vetâs.
So $225 later we walked out and came home but the vet thinks sheâs very healthy so that will be one of those once a year charges and vet visit. He did feel her hair loss might have been from a major flea infestation since it was a breeder/hoarder situation she was rescued from and the fur in those spots might not come back. I did get the fish oil meant for dogs and he said it will help her joints as she ages so has no problem with us keeping her on it.

Sandy, thanks for catching that I left Kathie off the list. I love your Rosie.
It is March. What plans does everyone have? What is special about March? My sister that was 4 years younger than I was born March 31. Mama always kidded her and said just a few minutes later and she woul have been an April Fool.
My youngest granddaughter is planning her wedding for next March.
Coffee, coffee.

Many dogs do hate sweaters and don't need them. My DGD inlaw bought several when she got her dog and he panted constantly and almost made him sick before she realized he does not need them even in the coldest part of Pa winters. My advice would have been only try one for a bit before buying more. She did donate the sweaters to the rescue place. they were happy to get them.
No plans for today. Taking a break from the computer today and getting some things done around here and staying home.

Happy New Month!
This March, our little DGGD is to be born! Unless she pulls an April Fool trick on her family. This is the second baby, though, so probably won't be late.
Yesterday, our power went out and stayed out. We read! As usual. The worst part was that I was stuck in my power chair with my feet up. DH had to help me crawl out the side, and I spent the rest of the day on the sofa. It's back now, thankfully.
Thanks, Lucy, for doing March. Love that top hat!
Sandy, Rosie sounds better and better. I love the things you write about her. Everyone is getting to know her.
I cannot decide about dinner this evening. Chicken is on the planner, but I want pizza....
Hugs! Diane

I got my laundry done and all put away. I really enjoy hearing about Rosie. She sounds like so much fun! It's cloudy outside and they were predicting snow flurries, but nothing has come down yet. It's 42 degrees, so it's a little too warm for snow.

None of our seven liked sweaters, but all wore coats that have velcro to make a neck opening fit and to go across tummy to hold down the top. Some are also waterproof and you can get just rain coats, but the ones front legs get through will get you the stink eye and refusal to take a step. this morning went as yucky as yesterday. Still no faxed order received by imaging. So we went and hand carried it. It schedules a week after y they get it because insurance has to ok a CT scan. They will call if that happens sooner. I hate having dr order delayed by a for profit company. Grrr.
one down. The Voltaren cream that says do not use in back, dr said is ok in just small areas like he has. Box says may take up to seven days to work. And it does get into your system through skin absorption , just not as much as orally taken.I tried it one and quit after three days. So we are using my knee Penetrex I get from Amazon or the company or CVS if in stock..sells fast. A zillion people rate it. It is arnica ( main thing they used in German when a woman tripped him in train station and bruised half his chest).this is a compound of other stuff. 4 x a day and I usually feel a difference next day.
So dr said not to take Tylenol every six hours as he has been doing that for days or Advil (ibuprofen). It is 2 extra strength T for the six hours, then 2 A for six, the T, then A. Lot less med, but he has been skipping. He also gets ice on it. I have those huge packs you freeze like PT has. He said later that helps.i think it is a bruised muscle or sprain across lower back. Hope that is all. He has been lucky not to have this kind of problem and is surprised how long it is hurting.
Got him fed lunch, paid the property taxes right at our bank, then looked for the flowers to go by the fountain..too early. But Loweâs had the tiny sweet grape tomato plants. I got those, and eggplant and a container of cucumber and planted them later in my veg pot where the peppers bit the dust. So something good.
on to Walgreens, med of mine still being sorted from somewhere else. So I wandered and found a new heating pad. I just realized ours is seldom used and must be at least 45 years old! But we seem to want it more these days. Got a box of COVID tests. The free ones we have expired. I view it as like taking umbrella in case of rain. If it does, you are happy to have it. If it doesn't maybe it did not rain because you were prepared.
finally got to the rest of the laundry and was asked what is for dinner. Argggh.
Almost three and I am sitting a while.

So we went to the animal shelter to get Rosieâs rabies tag and when we walked in a lady was walking out and just looked at me with such a sad face and I realized OMG since I had Rosie in my arms she thought we were surrendering her! I stopped her and said we arenât surrendering her weâre getting her rabies tag as we just got her Sunday! She said I was getting all upset thinking how could anyone give up such a sweet little thing so I reassured her again no little Miss Rosie is just visiting so we can get her out more. After that we came home and I was able to get her to walk from the car to the backyard on the leash and when she did her business I realized I forgot a bag so asked Fred to get me one. Rosie was wandering around the yard and then I realized OMG she was on the other side of the fence! I started yelling for Fred as there is no gate back there and the opening she went through was so small I never thought she could get out! He got in the car to drive over to that side of the fence as it opens into a huge field but that ends on a very busy street. I ran to that opening and saw she wasnât going anywhere and she looked confused so I kept saying very softly so as not to scare her come to Momma Rosie but she just stood there looking at me. I was so scared that she would take off but she didnât and then I realized she was trying to figure out how to get back in the yard so I again said come Rosie and she slowly started walking in the right direction and when she put her head in the opening I grabbed her collar and pulled her through and immediately picked her up. I donât think Iâve ever been that scared. Fred immediately found a piece of wood that he put over the opening so she wonât be able to do that again. He then checked the rest of the fence to be sure thereâs no more openings.

You can still get free Covid test kits from USPS and also the government. Just google Free covid test kits, several places to order them. I get them from USPS. there is also a list of ones that they decided could still be used for awhile after expiration dates.
