GOOD MORNING!! Love, light, blessings, and good health.
Wow, it has been a really, really, really long time since I started a thread but I did not see one started and it is a new week/month. Happy March!
Cathy I am sorry to hear about the spotty internet.
Jan hope your knee is better! Hi Nat! Hi Sally!
Carol yes, February did have way too many splurge meals for me as well. I am hoping that March is better.
Wow, I really need to recommit and get back to basics. February splurge meals have really got me off track. I am still exercising regularly but most of it has to be diet if I want to lose or even just maintain. I have been OP since Monday and eating clean. Yesterday was: very short home abs, rowing machine, weight class, and a swim. No walking breaks - instead I took a long lunch to do some much needed chores - lawnmower sharpened, stocked up on tofu, and I finally found a store that carries the vegan veggie burgers I like so I stocked up on those as well. Unfortunately neither of those stores (nor the lawnmower repair store) carry good produce so will also need to hit my regular grocery store soon. Today: after a sleepless night (woke up about 2 gave up on sleep about 5), home abs, work from home office, cardio, trainer, and a swim. Stay OP. I am hoping for only one splurge meal in March and to do damage control at that meal. My taxes were delivered to the book keeper on President's day. I have some pretty intense deadlines but I cannot use those as an excuse to not check in - the scale, the mirror, and my clothing are telling me that.
love, light, blessings, and good health, janet

Hi Janet,
Just noticed there are 2 threads started for the week so just left my message on the other one. How is the air quality with all those fires? I know they are pretty far from you. Yes, let's do better in March friend.

Jan's Post from the thread that I am going to cancel in a minute...
On the first JAN WROTE:
Happy Friday Evening. Happy March 1st! Sheesh! Been very busy with things to prepare for total knee replacement surgery. I don't have a date yet but hopefully it will be mid-April to May. Still need chest Xray, EKG and MRI to be cleared for surgery date. Lots of confusion as my GP is sort of a behind the times tech guy and can't seem to connect with my healthcare provider electronically. Went to get the Xray on Thursday and was told I needed a different form from the Doc. What a wasted trip! Getting my vote in and shopping, errands done before the dogs arrive on Tuesday afternoon. We won't be able to leave them alone for too many hours so trying to get ahead of the game. One of us will have to stay home with them and I hope it's not me too much because I like to get out of the house every day. We will be walking them daily. I am with all you ladies. February was a short, fattening month! I'm ready for Daylight Savings time and longer, sunnier days. Got my hair cut today so feeling more human. Need a color and then I can feel better. Have taken on a massive bit of decluttering all the closets and kitchen cupboards this month. Already donated a large pile of asst stuff and lots more to go. I realize my storage problem is that I have a whole lot of stuff stored that I never use, and no place to put the things I do. Cathy and Nat: So proud of your WL. You ALL inspire me to do better. Need more sleep so Sweet Dreams Everyone. Jan

On the first Cathy/I wrote:
We are beginning the third month of 2024 with high hopes and goals to achieve. I am wishing all of us a successful month!
This week has been QUIET without the internet. We did finally get it back yesterday (I think) but it is still iffy and gone at times with the landline for phone gone completely. Whatever...we do have water for showers, plenty to eat, clothes to wear, a roof over our heads, and enough of everything we need.
I spent Wednesday afternoon talking to Maureen and Rosalie. Maureen's surgical site is still healing and makes it difficult for her to sit. Not sure when she will be able to play cards again. My husband found out he had two keys to the front door so a goal for me is going to be tidying the main floor of the house and the entry then seeing if Rosalie wants to come here to play cards one day a week if Maureen cannot play still for months to come. Rosalie can't host as the table we usually use there has her husband at one end and her son at the other using the table as an office center for the two of them. Rosalie and I might go for coffee tomorrow afternoon. I should stay home to talk to my daughter BUT if I do stay home there is no guarantee the internet will work and perhaps we can talk today or she can talk to her dad for awhile and talk to me alone at an earlier or later time.
We hope to talk to family this weekend but only if we have access to the internet.
Lunch today was hummus, pita bread, fijaylee(wild mustard greens) with lemon-olive oil-garlic, and spinach and onion sauteed with bulgur and black eyed peas added to it. I am FULL! Might have fruit for dessert or perhaps for dinner.
As for the week ahead...not sure if there is anything on the agenda with the American Women's Club. They may have a meeting but doubt I will go into Beirut as the meetings are rather boring most of the time. There could be a potluck and a baking event and perhaps there will be a craft day but...nothing has been confirmed yet.
Hope this is a wonderful weekend for all of us!
Today's Weight: 163.2 - still working my way down...this is the year to get to goal weight again.
Yes I can: track every BLT, make healthy choices, stay positive Yes I did: have an OP day yesterday
BOOKS: Almost finished the boxed set of four books by Freya Barker and will write and post that review along with another book I have already written the review for but could not post due to lack of internet. After that I may go through the list and give feedback on one book that I am realizing is a "religious" book and there was no indication that religion was part of the story...I feel this is false advertising and will note in my journal that the author is one for me to avoid. I think that genres should be specified along with trigger warnings provided. Not everyone will want to read the same type of book and most will be thankful for information that will help them choose the right book to read that will be appropriate and not offensive to them.

March 3
JAN: I deleted the intro to the other thread and my two posts but can't delete yours. If you go to the gear box thingy you might be able to delete it. I did copy and paste your post of the first into this thread. I hope the knee surgery can be scheduled in a timely manner and that it will provide relief from pain and increased mobility.
JANET: Thank you for starting the thread. My internet situation has been iffy at best. I deleted my part of the other thread and if Jan deletes hers, then everything will be here in this thread for the week. Here's to March being the month we rein in the eating and whittle away the pounds!
Yesterday I went to Batroun with a friend and we walked in the old souks. I did a small wine tasting of a new vineyard's produce and bought a bottle of their red wine to bring home. I found a pair of pants on sale that will add a bit of style beyond jeans to my closet and now need to figure out what to wear with them. We had coffee and talked and it was a fun day. Hope to talk to our son and his family tonight.
We went to the banks and I was able to write down the highest balance in the accounts to use to file the FATCA/FBAR for this year for the IRS and will also tackle state and federal taxes sometime soon.
Yes I did track to the best of my ability though the app I track on is not working at 100% Yes I can make healthy choices and track today
BOOKS: Wrote the review for the Boxed Set and have more books to read and review. Not sure if I will read the alien romance with serpent-like aliens falling for humans or read a historical or contemporary romance next. Will see what is up next.
Church bells are ringing in the village, Bella has been fed, lunch is to be determined, the kitchen is spiffed up and ready to prepare something tasty in . It will be a good day!

March 4
It is after 4pm - not sure where today went. I closed the curtain last night and slept till 8:30 this morning, it was marvelous though it scared my husband for me to sleep so late We went out to run errands, bought groceries, went by the roastery for nuts and coffee beans, bought produce, and I bought a 2024 agenda to use for a food diary because I found mine from 2020 and it was a treasure trove of information. I also find that the Healthi App that has had a glitch for nearly a month not allowing me to search for food is...frustrating. Anyway...hoping it will provide incentive to stay OP, track accurately, and will see me at goal weight this year.
Yes I Did: track, stay positive, weigh in the morning yesterday Yes I Can: track every BLT and stay positive today
BOOKS: Wrote the review for the alien-human romance and started a historical romance last night. Will finish the book by Charlie Lane that is the February romance in The Rake Review series being written by twelve different authors. Not sure what will come after that.
Hoping this week will be a good one for all of us!

Good Monday evening, positive peeps!
Over the last few days: Yes I DID: --start my tax return, but will have to relearn how to handle the income & expense from the rental of Old House. --get outside for walks in the ephemeral Spring weather. Today we broke a record for warmest March 4th temperature: 71° I had my hair colored in the afternoon and on the way home, stopped at Ye Olde Golf Course park and walked a couple miles. Nice! Lots of robins, they think spring has arrived. --2nd night of listening to meditation before bedtime. Interesting. It does help me fall asleep.
Yes I CAN: --work on better sleep --establish some routines --continue to feed the feral cats who patrol the neighbor's yard. Last we heard, neighbor was in hospital in some kind of "rehab". but he has not returned. Hope he is doing OK.
Be well! Carol
Busy day,

Happy Tuesday. Gosh. a very busy day. Had to go back to the hospital to get labs and chest Xray done. Dr. miscommunication last time. All good. Just have to watch the slow medical wheels turn to get scheduled for surgery. After tests we went to return 2 pajamas that I bought at Marshalls and bought a cute black light hoodie and some yoga pants for Lisa instead. She has to wear these instead of jeans, so she doesn't scratch her new guitar. She's been taking a daily online lesson, and I am so glad she is picking up this instrument after so many years. I played the piano as a young adult but really have no desire to go back to it, maybe the organ so L and I can jam. LOL. I'd rather be dancing. Maybe I can again after the new knee. Hope so. I know Carol plays an instrument but have any of you other ladies played now or in the past. I happen to love Native American flute music. My Indian ancestors, (I am a very small percentage Mohawk) are with me. We took our ballots down to the polling place at the library, got gas and home. Did ok with food today until I opened some Ikea ginger cookies. Nobody makes ginger cookies like the Swedish! Tomorrow Costco and then we get the dogs for 3 weeks. Should be fun! Oops, I'm rambling. Sounds like Sally is having a fabulous time. The landscapes and food looks wonderful! Back Manana.... Jan

Good morning. The sun is shining and though I did not get eight hours sleep last night am eager to see what today brings. I am also contemplating trying to nap...never have been successful doing so but may try again. We accomplished what we set out to do when running errands yesterday and then settled into the usual reading to review.
Today's lunch will probably be a Mexican bowl with a rice base topped with red beans, cabbage, salsa, and laban-labne with garlic or ranch dressing mix. Scale was down in spite of going over calories and points yesterday so now wonder if it is WHAT I eat more than how MUCH I eat...hmm...
Books: Review posted for the historical romance and then I started reading a new-to-me author that had me reading till 1:30am. I liked her writing style and learned a few things. The book is by Hannah Murray and the title is SHARING SHANE. The female lead just caught her now-ex-boyfriend with her neighbor f-ing on her bed and has a vacation to go on that requires two in the room to get the discount. Her BFF finds someone to go as her plus one, she thinks he is gay but is attracted, he is bisexual and polyamorous and a steamy time begins. I am only about halfway through but do smile and fog up my glasses and realize this is probably NOT the type of book many of you will read as it seems historical and rather long-ish books are more your style but...am sharing. My sister is reading Guncle...had never heard of that one and it seems to have good reviews.
YES I DID: track every BLT, buy the agenda and begin tracking on paper in it, hydrated, stayed positive, bought produce and items needed for healthy meals YES I CAN: walk 30 minutes while reading, make healthy choices, stay positive, continue to whittle down the pile of books to be read
CAROL: I have heard storks flying overhead...they are migrating and seem somewhat confused by the weather that can't make its mind up this year. I haven't seen a robin in YEARS! How many feral cats are there to feed at your neighbor's house?
JAN: Interesting that you need to wear soft clothes to not scratch the guitar when playing...don't know that my brother-in-law or others have done that from high school memories. As for musical instruments: kg-12th grade piano lessons, 4-6th grade violin, 7th-sophomore college and then later as an adult bass clarinet, recorder at various times. My sister played flute and my brother played baritone horn. My son played the cornet and my daughter the clarinet and bass clarinet. Music is fun...though that Rachmaninoff 12 players on six piano concert in high school was stressful...or was it 12 pianos and 24 players? it was a long time ago. Was in the Beirut Symphonic band with my children and we went to the Jerash festival to play one summer and Queen Noor was there with her children. One of my granddaughters is now playing in her 7th grade band and plays the cornet that was her father's.
Hope everyone is having a good week so far!

Good Wednesday noon, positive ones!
Well, our fickle spring weather continues. Tuesday we broke our March 5 record for high temperature here: 74° but today it's 43° with fog and drizzle. The outdoor kitties were happy to have fresh, dry food and clean water. There are at least 5 different individuals, all variants of black cats. I've named 3 of them so far: Ruth is all black with a white collar & bib (she's named for RBG), James (Bond) is a classic tuxedo cat. Inky is all black and may be pregnant. Yes I DID: --enjoy quick brownbag lunch with retiree pals...but it was someone's b'day and he brought mini cupcakes for all....oh well. --have a lovely long walk outside yesterday, wearing a t-shirt & no jacket. Yay! --enjoy a nice bedtime meditation. Although I was still awake at the end, at least my brain was not racing so much. <--this meditation was what I committed to doing this week, at my WW mtg. The idea was to eliminate the overwhelm that happens with too long a goal list (could feel like I "failed" even though I mostly succeeded!). And I do feel better focusing on the "one thing."
Yes I CAN: --continue working on taxes. Made some progress, feeling good. --ignore all the doom --meditate tonight

Happy Wednesday. First day of Dog sitting and they got us up at 6 am. Yawn! We had them out walking at 8:30 am. That's really early for me to walk but it felt good. A really beautiful day that turned to driving rain about 4:45pm and it's still raining. Thunder was predicted but so far none. I did a healthy grocery shop this morning, since I was up and moving early, and visited with my artist pal for an hour this afternoon. Friend therapy. Cathy: You have such a musical family! Wow. My Dad used to play folk guitar when I was very young. Woody Guthrie and other songs he learned in the Navy. My favorite was Sunny side of the Street. It has been my mantra song for life. I love that the tradition continues with your granddaughter playing your Dad's cornet. Hope you get more sleep tonight! Carol: I absolutely love the cat names you chose. So cute. RBG! They are lucky to find a soft-hearted soul in you. Yes, the weather has been crazy. Did you get enough snow this year? I read lots of places in the east were without their needed amount. I think today's storm put us over the top for annual rainfall here. Yay! And I saw on the local news that Nat's mountain (Big Bear Mtn) was expecting snow. The ski resorts are hopping here in CA. Me too ignoring gloom and doom. Sending my prayers up that peace will guide the planet. Well, going to call it a night. We ordered a side table from Wayfair and it took so long to put together. Not Ikea but close. Tired from the early rising. Waves to All, Jan

Yes I did track all that went into my mouth yesterday - it wasn't pretty Yes I can do better today, finish up the James Lee Burke and write the review, do some laundry, make healthy choices
I had fun with friends yesterday. The one who had surgery was able to sit up and play cards so that was nice. The caramels on the table...too tempting along with the wine...ah well, today is another day.
