Day 3 – Eat Sitting Down
Today’s assignment is to learn to always eat sitting down, no standing and eating allowed. When we don’t sit down and eat, we are less conscious of everything we put into our mouths (who keeps track of the samples at Costco), when we sit we can do a better job of monitoring what we eat instead of mindlessly munching/grazing as we walk about the office or our kitchen. Beck points out you’ll feel more satisfied if you have all the food in front of you and you see what you are eating.
Do you think eating sitting down will make a difference in your consumption of food? Do you usually sit down to eat, or do you still stand and eat sometimes?

I think sitting down to eat makes a difference. I think eating standing up distracts you from fully registering that you are eating. I usually eat sitting down, never had the habit of standing in the kitchen eating. An exception is when I'm keeping an eye on dinner and then I might eat my salad standing up in the kitchen.

I usually eat meals sitting down but not always at the table. What is most important is to prepare meals that are on program and stick to the program tracking accurately.

This is a habit I've mastered at home. I always eat sitting down. I have problems in a few situations - holiday parties for example, where there aren't enough chairs for everyone and one is talking to a group of people standing around the food. I also used to have this problem at our spinning guild meetings in an old inn where there aren't any chairs in the room where we used to serve snacks. But that's no longer a problem because our meetings are now vis Zoom and we don't have the snacks!

I always eat sitting down, and I think it does help me be more aware of what and how much I'm eating, and also more aware of my satiation level.

I eat sitting down most of the time but I have gotten into the bad habit of eating standing at my kitchen counter. It feels less like a meal, and I'm usually very distracted when I'm doing this (which I know is coming up) so I am committing to each and every meal at the table today.

I always eat sitting down. I also always eat with some distraction, often more than one: reading with TV on for instance. I grew up reading and eating at the same time. I feel like I can transition to full attention to each bite even with other stuff going on.

I always eat sitting down, but always with distraction also.
At school, it's my time to check my computer for non-school stuff.
At home I used to sit at the table with Rick, no TV and we'd talk.
Now I sit on the couch and watch TV. I just can't bring myself to sit at the table all by myself.
I'm sure I should cut out the distraction, but it's just too lonely otherwise.
