Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

SHAPING UP FOR SPRING! February 11 - March 31
Spring is coming!
Supportive Friends Progress not Perfection Renewal of Being Inspiration New Habits Great Success!
This can be your Spring! This can be your success! No more rationalizing and making excuses.
This challenge isn't just about being alcohol free though it is the focus of the board. It is about finding and giving encouragement, getting healthy, loving ourselves, and finding what works and what doesn't. This is NOT about making ourselves feel badly about the unhealthy choices, it is about celebrating the healthy ones. So let's go for it!
As always, the rules aren't complicated. Simply no alcohol and staying on your food plan. If you get off track, don't give up....don't throw away the day, the night, the week. We are working on progress not perfection.
You may have alcohol issues that you cannot manage on your own and our group is here to support you and encourage you to get the help you might need. You may have alcohol issues that you can control but have to exert the motivation and our group is here to support you.
Spring clean your cupboard early! If you have junk food, tempting alcohol, or trigger foods in your kitchen, you are setting yourself up for failure. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is always going to happen. Don't make it easier for yourself to give in to it. Assess your kitchen, ask if this helps or hinders me. DO NOT have sentimental attachment to food or alcohol. The stuff will always be there, it does not magically disappeared but your health can be compromised! This is your life! Make it the best!
REMEMBER…. 1. Work the Plan and the Plan works! Think of your new eating plan as a lifestyle change -- one that will have ups and downs, with good days and (very few) bad.
2. Don't deprive yourself. A food plan should be about SATISFACTION. Find foods you LOVE that will help you meet your goal.
3. Drink lots of water. Water is good for you.
4. Listen to your body. It knows things. Pay close attention to your body cues.
5. Live one day (or even one MEAL) at a time. Don't be discouraged and beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. Just get back on with lots of helping hands.
6. Get exercise with activities you enjoy. If you don't like what you are doing, then you won't stick with it.
7. Keep track of what you eat. Write it down. You WILL 100% without a doubt make better choices if you hold yourself accountable for them.

I chatted with Murphy. She said I could share with you. Also said to tell everyone she loves you!
I'm here. Had a slip last weekend but mostly I have been trying to help with DB. He is going down hill so fast! In fact, I'm taking Scout to the gal from the rescue group to keep for a few days and I'll go up on Weds and stay at least until Saturday. Dave doesn't sleep a bit at night and only naps during the day and he is just getting out of his mind and really abusive. If I can take the night shift then maybe his wife can get some sleep. I have my first appointment with my new GYN Weds morning so I'll leave after that. My brain is just mush! Keep us in your prayers.

At home March 3 weigh in: March 10 weigh in: March 17 weigh in: March 24 weigh in: Final Weigh March 31: Good morning all. Happy Monday! I’m ready for face the day and have it all lined up. Work first for 3 hours, then off to my Dr’s appt. Just my medicare yearly check in but see what else comes up . Then back home to get DH and we are going to head up to the AAA office and see if we can get passport photos. They are supposed to be free if you have a membership. Then DH may unwittingly be dragged into Costco while we are up that way . Last night we ordered out Chinese food, not a great choice before Dr today, but all good. Now I wish we had waited until today and tried somewhere new while we were out. I’ll probably just get a Costco chicken and see what other things they have so we don’t really have to cook when we get home. Looks like we are heading down to the Chicago area Sat-Sun. DH has some car parts to pick up but I wanted to go somewhere anyway so we’ll see if y DB and DSIL are around. Otherwise we’ll get a place maybe downtown and do a bit of touristing. Yesterdays good news was DS called and said he has a zoom interview with Miami on Thursday. yay. I’m glad he doesn’t have to fly down at such short notice. Fingers and toes crossed and good vibes going out to him. He sounded good and actually glad it’s coming up so fast so he doesn’t have as long to stew about it. It looks like a nice day out, mid 50’s but talking possible rain after 2 o’clock. The darn cats are getting too wise to my trying to get a flea and tick pill in them. Only let Scout in first to come eat, had the pill in a pill pocket, soaked it in the wet food, look on the plate and the white pill is there and everything else is gone. Then I crushed it up, now they won't eat the last bit of food. Arrrg. Guess it's back to the neck application and the threat of physical damage to myself DH just made bacon and eggs for breakfast, not really on my plan for this morning but hate to discourage him. I just have fruit and 1/2 quest bar packed for later as the Dr is right at 12:30 so don't want to eat too much but also don't want to be starving later. I'm going to make a list for my visit. Why can't I get my belly to go down at all, DH doesn't drink for 9 days and it already shows! Should my leg still have numbness, its that just the normal healing? My stamina is still down, get winded, maybe from Covid or ?? Guess I better get moving so I can shower and have some breakfast before I go to work. Charging up my Fitbit and will get some steps in today at the big box store . Have a great day all. Will check in later. Jan Hi Cindy Enjoy your beautiful day. Maybe if I can rope DH into Costco we'll come home with some soil or bulbs! Cathy Yay for finding your journal. Somedays I feel I way over think things, I have my writing journal that's just thoughts, etc each morning. Then my Commit30 journal where I track food, Fitbit Macros, write monthly goals etc. Will have to pick a future time when I will just burn everything Altho I do kind of like to look back at the historical happenings I've written about and the really happy moments. Carole Hope you have a great day. Looks like you had a dog escape this past weekend. Yay for being AF if not Dessert free. Liz I figure if you can stay at 2 drinks, you are doing well. My problem was it was never over at 2. I'm a go big or go home kind of drinker This stretch has been much better for me, not sure what switch flipped and not taking anything for granted as I know it can flip back in a hot minute. Just riding the streak, trying to make some progress on my healthy journey. I'm so mad, I tried to work on the next color section of my sweater last night, even sober I screwed it up Need to rip it back about 5 rows, I will put in a lifeline as I don't want to totally mess it up. May wait til Thursday when one of the ladies can help me. GG Good that you checked in with Murphy. So sorry to hear of all the stress and what they are all going through. I will send out prayers and hope she can come back and join us soon. Sometimes just talking to others and venting is the best medicine. Hope you have a nice day too. Will check in later. Hi Amy

DH & I took the golf cart to the top of the hill to walk the neighborhood yesterday morning. It's fun looking at yards and the signs of spring. When we got back I puttered outside, planting blueberry bushes, weeding, planting potatoes in grow bags and dahlias in pots. I like starting the dahlias in pots since it seems like there are always some that don't sprout. It was still somewhat muddy from the rain and weeding the hill was pretty messy. I picked some daffodils that were blown over in the wind. When I was done outside I showered and had lunch. It was after 3pm, so a bit of couch time and a lie down. We had BLT's for dinner. I watched a Hallmark movie, Guiding Emily, about a woman who becomes blind after an accident. It really touched me and I was a bit weepy. Once again I had trouble falling asleep, but slept well once I did.
It's cloudy again this morning, but over 60 already. I don't think it's supposed to rain until tomorrow. I bought a lemon-flavored electrolyte supplement on Amazon that were recommended on the weight loss drug website. It's supposed to help with the headache and fatigue. I used one of them yesterday. Not sure if I noticed a difference, but it's a tasty addition to a bottle of water.
Vicki- Yay for beautiful weather and your beautiful spring flowers, going to Addi's basketball game. DH usually plays the trombone every day. I will definitely check the weather before we leave on our trip.
Jan- Yay for work going well and getting home by noon to enjoy the pretty day. GL at the doctor. Even if the scale is up from last time, you know you are on the right track.
Liz- Yay for the scale coming down and using your waffle maker. Glad keto is working for you. It definitely sounds doable to get into something nice for the graduation party. It is generous of you to suggest that Isabel and Michael spend Easter with their cousins. Maybe you can start another Easter tradition with them on another day during the season. Thanks for suggesting the Calm app.
Cindy- Thanks for getting us started. Yay for good weather. We'll have Easter at home. We haven't tried to do an Indiana Easter since before Covid and my elder sister is usually still in Florida anyhow.
Carole- Yay for lunch with the girls, being AF, enjoying dessert.
Cathy- Yay for a solid 8 hours of sleep, getting errands done, picking up a new food journal.

Vicki- Thanks for the Murphy update.
Murphy- My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this very difficult time.
Jan- WTG steps 10/11, stretches, PU, blue dot, AF. Hope all goes well at the doctor, you get your list of questions answered, Costco, and with DS's Zoom interview with Miami. Have fun in Chicago this weekend. It does suck that men seem to lose weight/inches more easily. GL figuring out switching colors in your sweater.

Hi friends! I’m actually typing this outside! It’s a beautiful day but not going to last. Only 13 more work days before FL!!!!! I do like the job so far. It’s busy so the time goes by fast. Juno got out again. She’s such a stinker. I swear she’s like the velociraptors on Jurassic park—finding a weak spot in the fence, breaking it and getting out. Our neighbor brought her back in the car—I have to say she did look pretty cute sitting in the front seat like, I just went on a fun adventure!! I have not been eating good, I’ve been trying on my bathing suit bottoms, so far so good. Some of my shorts, I’m not sure.
Amy, that’s pretty near your DH plays his trombone everyday!
Jan, fingers crossed and prayers said for DS!! Where do you stay in Chicago?
Gg, thank you for the Murphy update. That’s heartbreaking when the personality changes like that.
Liz, prayers for dd scan
Cindy, how’s your shoulder doing? I think it’s pretty presumptuous of g/friend to think she can stay that long too.
My scan came back and everything is fine! Thank God. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Hi all. Finally home and having a couch rest. Work went fast, then off to the Dr. My WI was 200.7, not much different than my last home WI and that was with jeans etc. Had most of my questions answered. She's going to contact an allergist to see if there is a way we can test for a shrimp allergy without doing a big panel. My numb leg is normal, may never all come back. She wouldn't let me quit my Cholesterol meds , numbers are good but with my weight and family heart history she said just keep taking them. All in all a good visit. Came home and got DH and off to AAA. In and out, free pictures, so now just get everything mailed in for passport renewal. Not much happening at Costco.DH wasn't impressed with any of the premade, I did buy a chicken and a few things. I'll probably make something with the chicken and maybe some lo rice for dinner. He's going to use a LO hamburger to make his nachos. He wanted to come home some back way he's gone, but he's only driven it going from our house to the airport up there. Well whatever roads he told me to take ended in a subdivision, then wound our way back out and found the freeway. A 15 minute drive home took about 1/2 hour or more. No wonder he always thinks it takes so long to do things and the places are so far away. Will be an interesting road trip this spring, ha ha. Tomorrow I will go to WW and see what all my messing around this week has done. Then a longer day at work. I know the week will go fast. Hope you all had a great Monday. See you in the morning. Jan Amy How many blueberries did you put in? We have 3, but 2 really do better as they get more sun. I had already moved them once because they just weren't thriving. I did get some berries last summer. Sounds like you were a busy bee in the yard. If the lemon flavor in the water helps you drink more, it's a win either way. Is there yoga tonight? I'm just going to leave that sweater alone for a bit, I always seem to try to work on it when I'm already tired or the TV is on. Need to not have the distractions. I will cast on another easy hat to work on during the evenings. I couldn't talk DH into any of the bulbs they had at Costco. Had some really pretty red day lilies, cannas, astillbes. He said wait til closer to planting time, but I know then the selection will be stinky. GG Enjoy your women's meeting this evening. Everything in moderation. Did you make cookies or buy some?
Carole Yay for your scan being all clear. The last 2 WW meetings they've said start trying on your bathing suits now if you need motivation!! We may stay at my brothers, but if he has a job I'm not sure. Sometimes DSIL can be a bit much with her politics and crazy theories. DH says he's not sure he can take a whole overnight of that when he's not drinking Just playing by ear for now and may check out some hotels downtown. If we end up at my brothers out by Northeastern, we never get down by any of the "city". Also going to watch the weather. Florida vacation is right around the corner!! Waving hi

In spite of the big dinner and going over points and calories...the scale was down. Perhaps the choice of healthy foods was the reason? Who knows...maybe gravity's pull was less We did run errands to replenish the kitchen, exchanged dollars for lira, I found the agenda and started tracking in it, I finished a book and started another one. Today I plan to walk while reading a book I started but did not finish though I read till 1:30am...did NOT get eight hours sleep last night and think I might try a lie-down-nap this afternoon to see if I can sleep during the day. I've read your posts and am caught up - thinking of you and hoping you get more sleep tonight than I did last night!
