Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

SHAPING UP FOR SPRING! February 11 - March 31
Spring is coming!
Supportive Friends Progress not Perfection Renewal of Being Inspiration New Habits Great Success!
This can be your Spring! This can be your success! No more rationalizing and making excuses.
This challenge isn't just about being alcohol free though it is the focus of the board. It is about finding and giving encouragement, getting healthy, loving ourselves, and finding what works and what doesn't. This is NOT about making ourselves feel badly about the unhealthy choices, it is about celebrating the healthy ones. So let's go for it!
As always, the rules aren't complicated. Simply no alcohol and staying on your food plan. If you get off track, don't give up....don't throw away the day, the night, the week. We are working on progress not perfection.
You may have alcohol issues that you cannot manage on your own and our group is here to support you and encourage you to get the help you might need. You may have alcohol issues that you can control but have to exert the motivation and our group is here to support you.
Spring clean your cupboard early! If you have junk food, tempting alcohol, or trigger foods in your kitchen, you are setting yourself up for failure. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is always going to happen. Don't make it easier for yourself to give in to it. Assess your kitchen, ask if this helps or hinders me. DO NOT have sentimental attachment to food or alcohol. The stuff will always be there, it does not magically disappeared but your health can be compromised! This is your life! Make it the best!
REMEMBERā¦. 1. Work the Plan and the Plan works! Think of your new eating plan as a lifestyle change -- one that will have ups and downs, with good days and (very few) bad.
2. Don't deprive yourself. A food plan should be about SATISFACTION. Find foods you LOVE that will help you meet your goal.
3. Drink lots of water. Water is good for you.
4. Listen to your body. It knows things. Pay close attention to your body cues.
5. Live one day (or even one MEAL) at a time. Don't be discouraged and beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. Just get back on with lots of helping hands.
6. Get exercise with activities you enjoy. If you don't like what you are doing, then you won't stick with it.
7. Keep track of what you eat. Write it down. You WILL 100% without a doubt make better choices if you hold yourself accountable for them.

Guess I never got back yesterday, even though I was doing all the scrolling last night. So much for my goal this week of having less screen time Up early today thinking about DS. I've texted and he said he's ready. Going to just think of it as a conversation and then let it go. He has to work the next 4 nights so after the interview it's back to bed and hopefully he can get some sleep. The sunrise this morning was spectacular, made me happy and ready to face the day. I will head off to knitting by 8:30 and then another longer day. I did my 6 hours yesterday but it actually wasn't that busy for me, 2 appts as 2 business' that had big blocks of time cancelled so I just helped work on the intake drawer. Another week almost done and will be good to see my DB this weekend. Hope you all have a great day. Jan Cindy Glad you made it to town yesterday and hope you can go today if you are feeling up to it to just get it done. GL with the teeth, sure hope they get it right this time. Cathy Some days I wish our internet didn't work as well so I wouldn't get sucked into all the "stuff". But I know, careful what you wish for. Hope you have a good day today. Sorry about your boots having issues. Carole Yay for a new Do. That is on my list for the end of the month or so. I need a haircut, but want to wait until I can schedule a long enough time to actually get a highlight or something. I didn't do any color last year and I need some brightening up. Glad the job is going better and you are getting more independent. I had bought those BelVita's too, the kids had them at the cabin and they are tasty. Until I looked up the points, 8 or 9 for a package depending on the flavor. And I would eat them like cookies so they had to go Yesterday I had 3 Thin mints, 2 peanut butter GS and part of an oatmeal cookie. Ugggh. But, all tracked and the rest of the oatmeal went to work. The boys scarfed them up in a hot minute. Thanks for the good thoughts for DS. Amy Did you get any of your seedlings started? Will they be big enough to put them in the ground before your trip or would DD have to take care of them until you got home. I'm not sure what I want to plant this year, between going away, being at the cabin etc, half the time DS lets things die or we don't pick things in time. I just threw away the last 2 delicata squash yesterday as they were getting soft. Don't know why we don't just cook them up but that's how it goes sometimes. Hope you get some sun today and get out and about. I'm also sure that Annie loves your company in the basement. Waving hi to all. Time to get moving and packed up.

DH & I drove to the clubhouse to walk so we could stop if it started raining. It sort of misted the whole time but it was okay with our rain coats. Mr. Leo was there walking, he's got to be in his 90's. He has neighborhood fame as he used to walk for hours picking up trash, but he's retired from that. He always has a friendly greeting and complimented us for walking in the rain. When we got back we stripped the bed and washed everything, including the comforter which one of the cats had puked on. It took a long time for the comforter to dry, finally put it back on the bed after dinner. We had grilled chicken, mushrooms, pineapple for dinner with green beans from the freezer. The green beans were mushy, but tasted really good. I watched Oscar movie 9/10 after dinner, Zone of Interest. It's about the commandant of Auschwitz and his family, who live in a villa with lovely gardens just outside the gates of the camp. They act like they are living in the suburbs, even though you can hear the trains, screams, gunshots, and see the fire and smoke from the crematorium. They have Jewish "servants" in the house. It is based on a real man and his family, Rudolph Hoss. Very disturbing with an odd ending. It was in German with subtitles, so not a lot of stitching done while watching. I went to bed a bit earlier, still had trouble falling asleep. I listened to Calm for a bit and sleep stories from another site, ended up taking a Benadryl. I had couch time in the afternoon, but did not nap.
It's sunny today for the first time in many days. We got 2.5 inches on Tuesday-Wednesday. DH & I are going to Gibbs Gardens today to check out the daffodils.
Carole- WTG doing ok with food except for Belvita biscuits. Glad work went well, yay for getting your hairs did. Hope the bathing suit fits nicely. Annie does seem to enjoy the company.
Cathy- Yay for fun with friends. Glad you could check in.
Cindy- Thanks for getting us started. Glad you made it for the infusion. Fingers crossed for the teeth fitting properly.
Jan- WTG steps 10/11, PU, stretches, blue dot, AF. GL to DS with his interview. Yay for a spectacular sunrise and work not being as busy yesterday. Have fun at knitting and your weekend with family. I didn't do anything with the seeds yet. I also had to throw out a small delicata that got away from me. One of the sleep stories I listened to was about a little pumpkin on the vine that wanted to grow up to be a Jack o lantern.

descry verb | dih-SKRYE What It Means Descry is a literary word that, like discover or find out, means āto come to realize or understand something.ā Descry can also mean āto catch sight of.ā // In their research, the bryologists descried an association between a moss and the iron content of the rock it typically grows on. // From the tops of the high dunes, we could just descry the ship coming over the horizon.

Hi girls. Jan, I donāt know how you do it! Yesterday DH woke me up at 8:30 to get ready for a 9:30 tax preparation appointment. 2 hours later, we left. Our former accountant retired, and this one took over. He liked to talk. And we had a fairly easy tax return! I had warned the girls at Bible study that I might be late, which I was by 30 minutes. I came home afterwards and spent the afternoon on the couch. I didnāt really sleep, but I know I dozed a bit. Iāve just been feeling so tired lately.Even the B12 didnāt help. I ended up with a headache and didnāt go to choir. I skipped the Y today and slept until 9 but still feel tired. It might be time to have my thyroid checked. The scale was up 1.8. It could be partly because of my 2 weeks of dessert, but probably more because of the junk and even candy Iāve been eating. Iām glad the scale showed a jump. Hopefully that will help me get back on track.
Jan: I think we could do our taxes with turbo tax. The only question I have is when it comes to our investments. Iāll have to look at the papers when we get them back. I hope DS gets good news! Jack has been trying out all week for the 9th grade baseball team. Heās only in 8th grade. Heāll find out if he made it tomorrow after school.
Amy: I feel you about not sleeping. DH can fall asleep in 5 minutes. It can take me 1-2 hours even with melatonin.
Liz: I wanted to say earlier if you are ok with 1-2 drinks, thatās the main point. I wasnāt stopping.
DS FaceTimed me this morning. While we were talking someone he didnāt know called him 3 times in a row so he answered it. Jack dislocated his knee in gym class. Heās now wearing a brace and is on crutches and has to see an orthopedic dr. Shouldnāt need surgery though. š

Hi All!
I have front teeth! They are permanent unless of course I break them, lol. The strong suggestion is to not bite into apples, corn on the cob, crusty bread sandwiches...it's not that I can't but there is a low chance of having an issue. I've spent the last 10 months not doing it so I guess it won't be an issue. One follow up in two weeks with the dental surgeon. While waiting on each step, the dental assistant and I were chatting and she said I see in your chart you have RA...are you comfortable. I said yes and she told me that her brother (29) has arthritis and was diagnosed while serving a one year jail sentence. He had been on probation but kept blowing off the check ins. Then she tells me her father is a recovering alcoholic and now drinks excessive amounts of coffee. I have no idea why she shared. Maybe because I couldn't respond very well. I hope she lasts at the office because she really was good at her job.
Then went to get blood work. It is Quest Diagnostic and they prefer appointments. I was five minutes late and my appointment was cancelled....the next appointment was in two hours or I could wait as a walk in and then it could be two hours....three hours, no way to determine. So have made another appointment for tomorrow morning. I really wanted to stay home, oh well. I like CPL but RA Doc way prefers Quest.
Jan, been keeping a good thought for DS today. Hope it all went well and he feels good about it. Glad you will be able to visit with your DB this weekend. Enjoy, enjoy!
Carole, yay for the new 'Do. Maybe you could send me some mojo to get my hair cut. I know it has been more than a year but thinking closer to two years. I've never had a Belvita biscuit...not sure I should try one now. Hope you are happy with your bathing suit!
Amy, I was up at 3:45 AM and never fell back to sleep...brain just kicks in. I love that Mr. Leo is part of your walk and has his fame. Bedding laundry is on my schedule tomorrow. Some stuff just takes so long to dry. Yay for sunshine! I enjoyed the photos from Gibbs garden. I wanted to buy some plants but temps are suppose to drop this weekend. The hyacinth bulbs I planted last weekend are growing rapidly!
Cathy, thought the pink looked lovely on you! Lovely combination of colors. Hope the internet is cooperating this weekend so that you can chat with family.
Murphy, hope we hear from you soon. Continuing prayers for your DB, DSIL, you and family.
GG, I laughed about DH falling asleep so quickly. My father would tell my husband (who he treated like a son) that it must be so nice to be able to bore himself asleep. I hope Jack makes the baseball team and that his knee heals quickly. I hope you feel more rested in the morning and if not make an appointment to get your thyroid checked.
Liz, I know what the doctors say but if two works for you, then so be, just count it. If you don't want it then less to count. It isn't a black and white issue. I think it was wonderful you had a veg day! A great way to take care of yourself.
We've had a rain storm with thunder and lightening tonight....suppose to continue off and on through the night. Tomorrow is suppose to be a cooler day.
Hope everyone had a wonderful day! Hugs, Cindy
