I was surprised to read that WW is behind the special. You can google this. So this is no tell-all by Oprah. She was smart. Got out of the company, but also placated WW.

So, I'm getting the feeling Oprah is feeling on top of the world because of her new found weight loss success and wants to be out there and proud on her own... calling the shots, promoting in her own way, in control of what she does and says.
"Conflict of interest" makes no sense at all.
In the mean time she's also not burning bridges, wise move lol

Yes, I read that behavior changes and probably the WW plan as well will be discussed, as well as medication. Nowadays you read stuff from the news, and honestly I don't know if this is truly accurate, or what to believe anymore, but it will be interesting to watch. In any event, I'd bet money this WILL be a good commercial for WW as Oprah slinks out.

Well, now I'm reading in today's news, from different sources, that Oprah left WW so that she could do her special without any interference, since she's now on weight loss medication and doesn't want a conflict of interest! Huh? If WW prescribes this medication, why is it a conflict of interest? This whole thing is turning whacky. I guess in the end, the special will speak for itself. I will be watching it out of curiosity.

I received an email from WW today promoting the Oprah special and that Sima will be on the special. The title of the email is "Weight health brings the focus back to you." The email talks about weight bias and weight health. I clicked on the link that is in the email just to see what the special is about. Here are some points from the email - Everyone deserves weight health. There are 3 things to know about weight health 1. It's not the same as a healthy weight. 2. Everyone's path can look different. 3. It's still a team sport. The email goes on to say: "When you feel like your best self, you have weight health."
Sounds like WW is going back to Beyond the Scale where they were focusing on health at any weight rather than focusing on weight loss.

Here is article that she is expected to endorse WW Clinic (formerly Sequence) on special. Seeking Alpha
The gist is that she wants to be able to say what she wants to say on the special (and otherwise) so reisigned from the board. I am sure there is more to all this than that. But, that also makes sense. She doesn't want to have to always speak for WW and be constrained. Jennifer, Conflict of interest is a broad term. Think about a WW coach (I think that is what they call leaders now). They can't, for example, say that calorie counting is just as good as WW since they can't really deviate from what WW wants them to say. They have to act in the interest of WW. A board member is a little different but they have a duty to put the interests of the organization (WW) ahead of their own personal interests. My sense is that Oprah thinks well of WW but she wants to put her interests first and that is understandable. But, she shouldn't be on the board in that event.

Oprah resigned from Weight Watchers and the stock plummeted 20%.

limefan, A while back I watched a video of Sima talking at some event and she talked about "weight health." It does sound like they are going back to their "wellness" phase.

Well, I watched it. Lacked depth, seemed like an infomercial. Didn't agree with some of the stuff the doctors said.

IMO, Sima missed a BIG opportunity (unless it got edited out) to "sell" not only the benefit of community but also of a (theoretically) balanced eating plan to go hand-in-hand with pharmaceuticals.

Ditto diva49. This is such a huge topic right now I was disappointed they tried to shove everything at once into 40 minutes. I could definitely see this being broken up into a mini series type thing.

Let me start out by saying I’m not deep like you all. I Appreciate all your knowledge and sharing and read your thoughtful insights. This is just me.
I watched the special this morning. I’m indifferent about the meds, I mean I took redux years ago and if it was safe I’d take it again. I feel the special was canned, no real information was discussed. Like others, why isn’t it covered by insurance? They discussed it’s been around for 20 years, why isn’t the patton up?
Then I realized
For years I’ve felt lost, no guidance struggling. No one to discuss weight loss with and no answers to be found While watching this show it hit me it’s not me! WW has an identity crisis going on. I mean is it a weight loss company? A wellness company? A technology company? A medical company? What exactly am I buying into?

I watched with interest. The first woman's story, Amy, touched me. I thought Oprah was good, in informercial mode but it wasn't the act I anticipated ever since her simpering Harry and Meghan interview.
I appreciated that it included side effects and honest reports from people who had to go off the drugs because they got sick.
Sima's piece was laughable and minimal. Whenever she uses the word "community" I have to restrain myself. Obesity patients do need lifestyle and behavior modification support, not just the drugs, and this whole show (sponsored by WW) failed to make much of an impression that people should get on board the program.
I was surprised to learn that many people have to pay for the drugs themselves. How on earth can anybody but the wealthy afford them?
