Good morning. 39, staying in that range, just 41 for a high, with the rain moving in for the afternoon. Getting windy later for the weekend.
Robin, yes DGD in the play has the Asperger's, and yes, it is my first born that was the Para. She has been one for year, with taking the school secretary job, she is finally not a Para. She was perfect for that job, as she has a very soft/big heart. The wedding is tomorrow, right? Have you said anything about the venue, and I was not paying attention? I would love to hear a bit about that, as I am sure it must be somewhere very nice, with it being a black-tie affair.
Gareth, I find the fact that between you, Marsha (Wednesday) and I, very cool that we all had haircuts so close together. When I say a job at a school, there could be perfect positions open for her in pre-K, HeadStart, kindergarten, those ages, that could be a good fit for your DGD. Don't assume she does not want to work there, maybe just mention it. Our DGC surprise us with their choices. I will fill you all in about my apartment when I am done with personals. Thanks for asking.
Marsha, geez, I remember those days of hauling my butt to the fitness center at 6:30 in the morning. But you get used to it after a while. Can your DH do the laundry for you? How nice that it works out so easy for having someone while your stylist is on maternity leave. I would cringe if I had to have someone different do my hair, even though it is really just an easy trim and color.
Carol, yes, that balance exercise really helps. I did that for quite a while, once my knees were better, and I was very happy with that, especially with how easy they are to do. I need to go on You Tube for some easy stretches. I have a few but need some for other parts of my body.
Pinky, happy you are home, and happy your travels home was uneventful, compared to the last trip home. Thank you, about Ruby and having Bob over tomorrow. (fingers crossed that turns out well!!) I bet you are so happy being home and knowing there are no trips coming up soon. I would feel the same way about Vegas, as you go there so much, and with you not being a gambler, it could get boring. Have you gone out to Hoover Dam, or other tourist sites? Have a wonderful time with the family this weekend. Good to have you back on the board.
Hi Anngie.
I had pretty much shoved that rent increase to the back of my mind, till I chatted with Bob last night on the phone, and now I am strongly thinking of moving. I do not know how I will do it, with time being so short. Here I have to give a 60-day notice, and if I am moving for sure, I would like to be out before the start of the new lease, which is June 1st. I honestly do not know how I will be all packed and ready to move in that amount of time. The real reason, (and this is where Bob comes in) that I am seriously thinking of moving was because of a story on our local news yesterday morning, which he saw too, so at least he knows the details. A new senior housing project is finished being built, (I had not heard anything about it, till yesterday), with 70% of apartments filled already. The rent is lower, and you have to be under a certain income level to get in, which I do pass, with being just one person. If I can get in there, I would go down to a 1 bedroom, 1 bath apartment. I sent a message last night to arrange a tour. I sure hope I do not get put on a waiting list, because I cannot do it that way, with having to sign the lease for 1 year, here. This apartment building is right past the boundary of GB, so I would still not be in the city, which is my preference, the only thing is it is close to the stadium district. And the #1 thing is I would lose my attached garage. For $25 a month more, I could get covered parking, but there are no garages. This is a lot to absorb for my puny brain so quick; with not having had any plans to move to all of a sudden, the possibility of moving in a couple months is just hitting me hard. Cross your fingers I hear from this place very soon, to tour it, before it is filled up.

Karen, is there a big difference in price between the place you are looking into, vs. a 1 bedroom in your place? I was thinking too that it is good that you have an attached garage. I know when DS1 moved into his place, where they can pay for parking underneath the building, they were hemming and hawing about it, as there is an extra charge, but I said why worry about clearing your car of snow in the winter, and the price was a very small fraction of the garage price in NYC. They ended up getting a 2nd car almost right away, so took the 2nd space. The good thing is that there is space behind each car spot where people leave things for storage. I guess they think it's safe there, they have things stored. When they moved to a large apartment, although they had a lot to pack up, DDIL was pregnant, and DS had Covid the week they were moving, they got it done. The biggest thing to me is always packing up the kitchen.
We're already in the 40's here, going up to the 50's, and right now it's sunny. I have a 10 an appointment to go back with the silver & jewelry I am selling for that woman who died. I stupidly forgot the checkbook so I don't have the account number to stop on the way back at a Wells Fargo to deposit it. There is a branch near the Lidl, so I could actually go later in the day and stop in to get a few things.
I am really loving The Women. My stomach really started bothering me yesterday at work, so I only had a grilled cheese for dinner for myself, and heated up some pizza for DH, so got a lot more reading in. As I always say, it is hard to say you love a book, when it is a very emotional, difficult story.

Karen, now asking about this wedding venue, I looked at the pictures, and it really does not look like anything where you would have a black tie wedding, a bit on the rustic side. I am sure they will have loads of flowers decorating it. The place where DS1's wedding was is beautiful. Some of the temples around here have very beautifully decorated event spaces. We had DS2's at a place with more of a rustic look, but much nicer than what this place looks like.

It is 23 here this morning and going to 38 for the day so a bit cool-----cooler than it has been but very nice compared to what it could be in SD. Warming up a bit each day in the days to come. It blows my mind that we are well into March and it doesn't really seem like we have had winter yet but for a few days. Monday will be my birthday and it is supposed to be very nice. I have had beautiful days on my birthday, blizzards on my birthday and everything in between so always a guess to what the weather will be.
Karen---That is a lot to think about in a short time. It sounds nice as it would be new and cheaper so that is the pros. The cons are only 1 bedroom but of course less to clean and hopefully the main living area might be some bigger for entertaining. To me the biggest downfall would be no attached garage. I would hate to be out there scraping windshields whether it being just cold out or snowy conditions. With our older ages it would be easier to slip and fall and also carrying groceries in and that sort of thing. But I would certainly take a look and see if it would be a good fit for you. Good luck with your decision making on that. Thanks for the welcome back and yes I am glad our traveling is done for awhile. Yes we have toured the Hoover Dam, twice actually and all the sites.
Robin----Hope your stomach is feeling better today. Also I am anxious to get The Women after your enthusiasm for it. Your wedding sounds interesting and it will be fun to hear about it. From your yesterdays mention----yes we have toured the Red Rock Canyon and also the Valley of Fire and it is beautiful. We have tossed around going to the Grand Canyon but those tours are 9 to 12 hours long and on a bus. We have done the Helicopter Tour of the Grand Canyon already and that was a wonderful and fun way to do it. Last December we went to the new Sphere and although its very cool it is very expensive for what you get.
Hi everyone----I best get busy here with different things I need to do. I didn't get as much done yesterday as I had hoped as we were meeting my DS's and DBIL for supper/dinner last night for one of my DS and my birthday outing. DH wanted to go early for a few things he needed to pick up so my day was cut short. It was a fun night and my oldest DS needed that as her DH that is in the nursing home with dementia is not doing well at all. It looks like he could pass in the next few days. She has been spending every day there and he has not communicated with her for at least a year so it is hard to sit by his side every hour of the day. It will be a blessing when he passes really.
I am listening to Hello Beautiful and it is good, not great but good.

Robin - Have fun at the wedding. I think rustic is the look they are going for now with weddings. They will jazz it up with centerpieces and flowers and low lighting and it will be lovely.
Karen - dh is pretty good about laundry. If he notices the hamper is full or he is running out of something, he will throw in a load. He doesn't always remember to throw it in the dryer after, but I don't either! I'm going to try that balance exercise. I remember reading once to do it while you are brushing your teeth. Good luck with Bob tomorrow. You may be able to get a month to month on your apartment for the month or two it would take you to move. Good luck with the new place. It will be hard to give up the garage but covered parking is better than an open lot.
Pinky - welcome home. I bet you are ready to stay home for a bit. Happy upcoming birthday! So sorry to hear about ds going through such a rough time with her dh. I'm sure she's happy to have you there to lean on.
I did not sleep well last night. I think it was because of dh's snoring. His back has been bothering him since he fell on the ice so he has not been using his cpap (it doesn't let him roll around at night which tightens up his back) so he has been snoring more and he likes to sleep on his side so that he faces me and snores right at me. Eventually I got up and went into ds' room but couldn't fall asleep there on the daybed we have in there and I haven't made up dd's bed since last time I washed the sheets. Eventually I went back into my room and reset the alarm so when I did fall asleep I slept an extra hour and almost skipped my workout but in the end I got my 30 minutes on the recumbent bike. I spent half of that reading articles about the state of the union last night and that went quickly. Dinner last night was salmon with baked potato and asparagus. Tonight is supposed to be chicken but I forgot to take it out of the freezer.

Karen, our rain must be heading your way. Wish it would've amounted to more. It's been more of a drizzle really than rain. A lot to think about with moving especially with no garage. There has to be other places to look at too. Here there are so many different senior housing places. At first when you starting talking about talking about it with Bob I thought you were going to say he suggested moving in with him!
Marsha, DH used to snore but hasn't now in a long time. Wonder if it improved with age or what. Whatever I'm glad. It used to drive me crazy.
Pinky, sad about your DS's DH. I'm in the minority of The Women since it's getting such rave reviews. The first part was hard for me since the graphic description of war injuries for me was disturbing. I'm liking it better now that part is over though what happens after her return isn't all that pleasant to listen to either. Not a great time in the US's history. I do have to say the narration is one of the best I've listened to.
I had my hairstylist go shorter with my hair. I'm not so sure about it now but at least my hair grows fast.

It’s a beautiful day here today - will only get to 50 but it’s a bright, sunny day.
Karen, interesting but what you call a para in the school district we here call them teacher aides. It’s so nice that your DGS has found something she’s so passionate about. Just more proof that there’s “something for everyone”. I had my cut and color last week. Some of us seem to look grayer around the same time! I think it’s a very good idea to tour these new apartments - and compare rent between the complex you’re in and this new one for 1 bedroom apartments. Also check to see if the rent in the new place is locked-in for a period of time. I agree with the others, though, I could never give up an attached garage. I can’t wait to hear all about it! When does work end for the year? Enjoy your dinner date! (want to hear about that, too)
Gareth, sorry about DGD’s respiratory infection. How old is she?
Marsha, that’s great that you have a retired stylist that you know to fill in. Who does our hair is important!
Robin, rustic weddings are very popular around here. I’ve even seen newly built barns on spacious properties just to use as a venue. And then there are the very old barns which are beautiful used again in this way. I’ve used root touch-ups myself. The easiest one that I’ve found - if there isn’t a lot - is in powder form brushed on. It works well but takes a minute or two to do and then washes right out. I feel the same way re “loving” a sad book. I’ve read a number of WWII books which have various degrees of sadness in them (some hard to read) but have a hard time saying that I’ve enjoyed the book. So therefore I don’t even know how to recommend it. Enjoy the wedding!
Pinky, welcome home! When you’re in LV do you take in some shows? Can be expensive, though I’m sure it’s good for DH to relax as well. Get his mind off of all there is to do at home!
Carol, that’s a good one to help with balance, which is something I should do more often. I find I’m not paying attention to my footing/steps so sometimes my balance is off, but at least I’m not falling! Funny how the simple things change as we get older.
Yesterday a couple of friends and I went to a Hibachi bistro for lunch. Fun to watch food being cooked in front of you. Not interested in sushi, though.
I’m reading two books at the moment - The Life We Bury during the day (it’s very good) and then a Jan Karon book before bed. She’s not everyone’s cup of tea but a good read just before bed.

Anngie, in our school district we were called teacher's aids, but the official title was para-professional. We even got little certificates saying we were certified para-professional. We didn't have to do anything special to become a para except show up. I think the certificates were more for if we changed to another district in Texas, it would prove we had had the job.
Karen, there are 2 senior living apartments here that I know of. I know several women from church who live in them and like them. I'm sure they don't have garages but may have covered parking. Of course, our weather is different here and we usually don't have many days where scrapping ice off windshields is a problem. Going down a bedroom may not be a problem. Didn't you and your DH downsize quite a bit when you moved from a house to the apartment?
I discovered on my sister's trip that everyone in my family snores. I had to poke DD a couple of times to turn over and I know she did the same to me. One morning I discovered some ear plugs on the coffee table in the living room. I assumed someone got up to sleep on the couch for a while but didn't ever figure out who is was and didn't see any reason to ask.
DH and I went to Las Vegas years ago. I think it's one of those places everyone should visit at least once. We went on the Hoover Dam tour and then the leader took us by some star's houses. He kept saying Wayne Newton wasn't as big a star as he used to be. We saw Smokey Robinson and he was great.
Marsha, good job going to the gym.

Pinky, an early happy birthday to you. Nice that you got to celebrate, and let your DS have a nice time. I agree that it is so often a blessing when someone like that passes away, we can't say that it is sad. We took a helicopter to Grand Canyon and landed somewhere in the canyon and were served lunch. That was enough for me.
Marsha, I agree that I think everyone snores. My DH doesn't have the original mask from the CPAP, and he thinks he is always on his back, but almost immediately he turns over and face me, and the nose part sometimes doesn't stay on right, so I am not only hearing a sound that rushes out, but also it blows on me, because that direction is the most comfortable way for me to sleep. I agree that rustic has become popular. Aside from barns, they also look at the venues at the wineries here on the north fork. I see that you must be liking Renee's Reading Group. It is interesting to get ideas and opinions.
Gareth, if I remember correctly, your DH is a Vietnam War vet, isn't he? I think it would be particularly hard for someone like that, and can really understand why you would not like it. I am past half way now.
Anngie, I haven't been to one of the hibachi places in a long time. The kids loved it when they were young, and there was a very good one up at Killington that was one of our places we always went when I took them skiing there. I do like sushi though! The root touch up I have is one that is a liquid you mix up, really not that different from the whole head color. Here, they call them teacher's aides too, or they used to anyway, but maybe that has changed.
Carol, I am not surprised that you found everyone snores, it's pretty common. I sometimes use ear plugs, but that doesn't even always help.

Robin, is that you in that Inspire therapy commercial!! You described it to a T! Have you ever seen it?
Carol, my DH has, after decades, stopped snoring simply because he no longer sleeps on his back! Because of a shoulder injury it became hurtful to lay flat so I suggested he sleep on one side or another. Well, you would think I was asking him for the moon, but he got used to it and no more snoring! Had I known it would have been that easy to stop the snoring I would have suggested it years ago - not that he would have done it!
Pinky, just to say I feel so sorry for your sister. Dementia is a very hard disease to watch happen. The only saving grace here is that the patient doesn’t know what condition they are in. But that does little good for the loved ones. My thoughts are with you all.
