A few months ago someone posted that they were trying the Mayo Clinic diet. Was it online? How do you like it?

Jennifer , No, it's a healthy diet, actually sponsored by the Mayo Clinic. Back in the 60's, a fad diet called the "Mayo Clinic Diet" was making the rounds. You had 1/2 a grapefruit with every meal, as much meat, poultry, or fish as you wanted, bacon, sausage, butter, mayonnaise. Salads, as much as you wanted. Non starchy vegetables. In other words, a low carb diet. Everyone thought it was the grapefruit that took off the weight. My brother in law lost 35 pounds on it.

I believe that was LauraM. I don't think she ended up liking it. If you search Mayo Clinic, you should be able to find the thread.

I’m on the Mayo Clinic Diet ( the real one!) I first bought the book and then joined the online program It is healthy eating using food exchanges, nutritional info is also there.

Glad this got posted! I decided to join using the 3 month option. I lost 25 lbs over the summer but have since put back on 5 so I need to focus on being mindful and this plan seems great and extremely flexible which is what I need.

I found the mayo diet rather restrictive, but everyone is different and needs to find their own plan. I was always hungry on mayo, but I didn't stay on it very long.

Laura M, it looks interesting to me mainly because it is very similar to the plan I followed when I lost the bulk of the weight last summer. My doctor had given me a cheat sheet of all the foods that were the ones I could have without issue vs ones I should limit. I found that I could easily go out to dinner and even have wine and champagne and still lose (of course not go out to dinner and get pasta and burgers, but could still order several types of dishes that fit within my plan). This one seems really similar. I chose the "simple" plan.

I am using the Simple plan also. I have searched the recipe finder and do use some recipes from other plans that I like. I really like seeing the food exchanges. I haven’t been hungry either.

I set my start date to this Sunday since I know tonight I would be going out and just wanted to give myself a couple days before I "officially" start. But I am looking through the meal plans and making sure my foods today fit within that to some extent and will do the same until Sunday. Fortunately, I have a lot of the foods in my fridge and pantry already that I can use for the meal plans.

Fortunately, I have a lot of the foods in my fridge and pantry already that I can use for the meal plans. You can use the Recipe Finder on the website. I use some of the Simple recipes but do Freestyle with other Mayo recipes and some of my own. The ebook is a good resource along with info on the site and app. I purchased the book as I prefer a hard copy to write on! The first two weeks are a bit stricter with building the habits, no sugar, only fruit and veggies for snacks, after that you can add more variety. This is my second time on Mayo, this time I am doing the Lose It phase ( last time I started on Live it) I’m losing well. I am old(76) and a slow loser so very pleased. The food choices are healthy and I love seeing both the food exchange and the NI. I use the website rather than the app. I feel it’s easier. Although the bar code scanner is on the app and food you scan shows immediately on the website too.The face book page is good, supportive people, lots of information and questions answered. It is monitored by Mayo so you get accurate info. I’m loving it, I repeat recipes to make prep easier.
