Day 9 – Select an Exercise Plan
Here are Beck’s reasons to exercise:
Exercise helps you stick to your diet.
Exercise might help control appetite.
Exercise boosts mood and soothes stress.
Exercise burns calories.
Exercise preserves muscle tissue.
Exercise builds confidence.
Exercise makes you feel better physically.
Exercise improves your health and prevents diseases.
She says there are two types of exercise: spontaneous and planned.
What is your exercise plan?
How have you fit it into your day?
What do you like about exercise?

Currently I'm not exercising.

bbbearsmom, I understand the "not exercising" comment
I am currently doing a bit of exercising by walking inside while reading. The goal is to walk 30 minutes five times a week but...not many weeks see that happening. I hope that when spring is really here I will have more inspiration to change the "not exercising" to "exercising
Why? because I feel better when I do...unless I overdo then I can end up having to heal before starting up again <sigh>

I am a consistent exerciser. I feel I should do more cardio. I do 1/2 hour on Fridays on the mini-trampoline, and I walk for 1/2 hour with hand weights, the latter has been hit and miss lately.
What I do religiously are body weight strength, flexibility and balance exercises, morning and evening.
I used to lift weights regularly. That has also fallen by the wayside. I did pick them up last week. Oh those batwings on the upper arm!

I exercise regularly and I've done so for many years. My plan is 3 days/week of walking or running (when I'm not dealing with a chronic foot injury) outdoors or indoors on my treadmill depending on the weather, and 3 days a week of strength training with weights and body weight. I've also added in exercise biking on my bicycle trainer, which I started a few months ago when I couldn't run or even walk because of my foot. I'm trying to keep that up at least a couple of times a week. I also do some balance training.
I exercise for all of the reasons that Beck lists, plus another one that I can think of:
- exercise not only preserves muscle tissue when dieting, but it can also build additional muscle strength, even for older people.
I fit it into my day the same way that I fit in making time and energy to diet - it's a priority for me, and I'm always thinking of the advantages to myself when I do it. And as I've learned with my eating, even if I don't stick strictly to my plan, I can still benefit a lot just by doing as much as I can.

I have been a relatively consistent exerciser for decades - a bit on again, off again sometimes - but always coming back on. Right now I'm struggling with some inflammation issues and I just saw a doctor about them last week. So I've dialed it down a bit and I take more rest days. But otherwise, pretty regular. I find I eat better when I exercise.

Exercise was never a strength for me. I'd go to a gym for about 8 weeks and then just drop out.
After Rick died, I started doing Yoga at home using YouTube videos. I was pretty faithful at doing it every day for about a year. Last summer I really fell off the bandwagon. I've been getting back to it the past month or two and I see a difference.
I definitely feel better, sleep better, less stressed, when I do it regularly. I don't really see a physical change, like toned arms, but I can feel it. I've always focused on a physical change too much in the past when I've tried to exercise.
I've also notice it really helps keep my carpal tunnel under control. I'm not waking up with "pins and needles" in the middle of the night. That alone is a great reason to keep at it.

bbbearsmom, Thanks! It's definitely not pretty when I'm doing it. I would never go to a class or do it in front of anyone. But I noticed it really helps me to focus on my breathing, which helps with emotions. No visible results, but lots of internal ones.
