Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

SHAPING UP FOR SPRING! February 11 - March 31
Spring is coming!
Supportive Friends Progress not Perfection Renewal of Being Inspiration New Habits Great Success!
This can be your Spring! This can be your success! No more rationalizing and making excuses.
This challenge isn't just about being alcohol free though it is the focus of the board. It is about finding and giving encouragement, getting healthy, loving ourselves, and finding what works and what doesn't. This is NOT about making ourselves feel badly about the unhealthy choices, it is about celebrating the healthy ones. So let's go for it!
As always, the rules aren't complicated. Simply no alcohol and staying on your food plan. If you get off track, don't give up....don't throw away the day, the night, the week. We are working on progress not perfection.
You may have alcohol issues that you cannot manage on your own and our group is here to support you and encourage you to get the help you might need. You may have alcohol issues that you can control but have to exert the motivation and our group is here to support you.
Spring clean your cupboard early! If you have junk food, tempting alcohol, or trigger foods in your kitchen, you are setting yourself up for failure. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is always going to happen. Don't make it easier for yourself to give in to it. Assess your kitchen, ask if this helps or hinders me. DO NOT have sentimental attachment to food or alcohol. The stuff will always be there, it does not magically disappeared but your health can be compromised! This is your life! Make it the best!
REMEMBERâŠ. 1. Work the Plan and the Plan works! Think of your new eating plan as a lifestyle change -- one that will have ups and downs, with good days and (very few) bad.
2. Don't deprive yourself. A food plan should be about SATISFACTION. Find foods you LOVE that will help you meet your goal.
3. Drink lots of water. Water is good for you.
4. Listen to your body. It knows things. Pay close attention to your body cues.
5. Live one day (or even one MEAL) at a time. Don't be discouraged and beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. Just get back on with lots of helping hands.
6. Get exercise with activities you enjoy. If you don't like what you are doing, then you won't stick with it.
7. Keep track of what you eat. Write it down. You WILL 100% without a doubt make better choices if you hold yourself accountable for them.

Good Morning!
Amy, thanks for getting us started!
Sleep was truly lousy and feel like a zombie. I have a few errands I need to do but will see if I make it out to do them.
Fingers crossed coffee helps!

DH & I drove to the Silver Comet trail to walk yesterday morning, lots of folks walking, running, biking. We went to Home Depot to pick up some collard seedlings then on to a landscape place to look for pavers we want to use by the address post. They didn't have them but gave us a couple of other places to look. At this point DH was getting hangry so we stopped at Popeye's to try their fish sandwich, which was pretty good. We stopped at Publix for a few things. I had some couch time when we got home then made some broccoli soup for dinner, which we had with pastrami sandwiches. I cut up an apple to have after dinner. Someone on FB suggested it helps with reflux. Not sure I believe it yet, but I did have less issues with it at bedtime and slept well.
We drove to the clubhouse to walk this morning, trying to beat the rain, but it started in before we finished one lap. I'll have to get my steps in the basement today as we have thunderstorms forecast for most of the day.
Liz- Hope you are feeling more human than zombie today. Sorry DH is driving you nuts again- hugs! Glad DD's cough is better and Isabel and Michael are doing well. Hard to believe she's almost 3!
Carole- Yay for the last day of work! I planted tulip bulbs in the front in the fall of 2022 and they did really well. The armadillos dug up some of the bulbs so when I planted the summer flowers last year I dug up the rest of them and moved them to back yard. Maybe about half of them came up and I'm going to have a few flowers so it was worth moving them.
Jan- Sorry about the lady bringing chocolates you like. Hope the sweater knitting goes better this time. Yay for having leftover salad for lunch. Fingers crossed for no shrimp allergy.
Cathy- Glad you could spend time with friends. Hope you figure out a recipe for the potluck soon.
Cindy- Sorry you slept poorly and feel like a zombie. Hope the coffee makes you feel more human and like doing the errands.

Good morning! Yesterday after the Y I got my hair cut, and ended up with a 2 hour nap. Just couldnât stay awake. But at least I was awake for Bible study last night! We bought some little candies and are going to fill eggs and have them hidden for when Rylee gets here. DH wants to take her on an adventure and put an egg in the creek and see how far and fast it goes. Hmm, I wonder if she is as excited to come as we are to have her? đ There is a craft show at her daddyâs school on Saturday that I want to go to, then Iâm sure weâll stop to see the library cat. DD also has a gift card from Pennyâs so maybe weâll go shopping since their store closed by them. All I know for sure is that Grandma will be tired but happy! I should get the rest of the coins counted this weekend. So far itâs about $800! I might need to get more wrappers from the bank! Itâs relaxing for me, like doing your crafts seems to be for you girls! Time for me to get things ready. Enjoy your weekend! đ

Out of sync today, just got home from work a bit ago, ran out of time to post this morning. I had a pretty good day but still munching too much. Plus I think I'm having some tracking fatigue and just feeling lazy. Not giving it up, will power through and hope to get the Mojo back. See where the app keeps changing, can't tell if we are back to blue dots, it's trickier to just type things in, not sure what they are up to. But I know I was way over yesterday and today will be close. The crazy folks are coming out of the woodwork these last few days. Crabby, rude, argumentative, I know the girls are getting fed up. I will still go in tomorrow to help out and then enjoy my free Sunday! I had fun yesterday. Felt like I got some things accomplished and enjoyed going out with the girls for lunch. Dh is making some sandwiches and fries for dinner and I will try to get to some knitting this evening. No news from the Dr yet, figure it will take awhile to run the allergy tests. Hope you all had a nice day and are looking forward to your weekend. See you in the morning. Jan Amy Sorry you got rained out this morning, hope you and Annie had a nice time in the basement Have a nice evening with the kids. Glad you slept well. GG That was so cute about Rylee waking up and her heart so excited Have a fun weekend! That's a lot of change!!! I thought you meant like $100 or so! Enjoy all the excursions, can't wait for your report back on your trip, will give me some ideas. Cindy Hope you got to take a nap or go back to bed. Did the errands get run? Waving hi.

Hi All!
Rain, thunder and lightening! Under a flood watch which isn't unusual but isn't really in our area. Looking at more rain tomorrow! Did get out and do a couple of errands in the morning but after stopping at the grocery store for a few things, there was a downpour and hail was being predicted so I headed home. DS had an eye appointment in the late afternoon so I went with him knowing his eyes were going to get dilated. Did another errand while he was there. There is a problem with his retinas and he has some stuff he is going to be taking and he will go back in three months. The eye doctor feels that with the stuff he will be taking and his young age, it will get better. Not sure what it is all about so will talk more with him tomorrow about it.
Again, Amy thanks for getting us started. Sorry that you weren't able to do your walk with the rain. Did you get the thunderstorms?
Liz, I hope DH has calmed down a bit. Hope you had a nice day knitting.
GG, glad that Rylee is so excited. Sounds like she will have a wonderful time!
Cathy, sounds like a wonderful time with friends. Will be interested to hear what you decide to bring for the potluck.
Carole, how are you feeling today?
Jan, hope being in sync returns tomorrow. The mojo will return! I think crazy people are coming out of the wood work for all sorts of things.
Friend/girl is always telling DS that she is sad. After talking to me he decided to tell her that she might be in a depression and should talk to her doctor. She said she had and her doctor said it was just sadness. So DS told her she needed a new doctor. So she did go to a new one! A bit surprised but glad. The doctor did some testing and she will begin taking an antidepressant. Her doctor told her that she should thank her friend for encouraging her to seek help. She also had been diagnosed as anemic and had been given a RX. She has taken it regularly but per the new doctor the RX hadn't been working. I hope that this doctor can really help her. I believe that she had been using a curandera, a traditional healer.
Still raining, been rubbing Voltaren into joints, and hopefully with some Tylenol can sleep through the night.
Wishing everyone a good night.
Hugs, Cindy
