Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

SHAPING UP FOR SPRING! February 11 - March 31
Spring is coming!
Supportive Friends Progress not Perfection Renewal of Being Inspiration New Habits Great Success!
This can be your Spring! This can be your success! No more rationalizing and making excuses.
This challenge isn't just about being alcohol free though it is the focus of the board. It is about finding and giving encouragement, getting healthy, loving ourselves, and finding what works and what doesn't. This is NOT about making ourselves feel badly about the unhealthy choices, it is about celebrating the healthy ones. So let's go for it!
As always, the rules aren't complicated. Simply no alcohol and staying on your food plan. If you get off track, don't give up....don't throw away the day, the night, the week. We are working on progress not perfection.
You may have alcohol issues that you cannot manage on your own and our group is here to support you and encourage you to get the help you might need. You may have alcohol issues that you can control but have to exert the motivation and our group is here to support you.
Spring clean your cupboard early! If you have junk food, tempting alcohol, or trigger foods in your kitchen, you are setting yourself up for failure. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is always going to happen. Don't make it easier for yourself to give in to it. Assess your kitchen, ask if this helps or hinders me. DO NOT have sentimental attachment to food or alcohol. The stuff will always be there, it does not magically disappeared but your health can be compromised! This is your life! Make it the best!
REMEMBER…. 1. Work the Plan and the Plan works! Think of your new eating plan as a lifestyle change -- one that will have ups and downs, with good days and (very few) bad.
2. Don't deprive yourself. A food plan should be about SATISFACTION. Find foods you LOVE that will help you meet your goal.
3. Drink lots of water. Water is good for you.
4. Listen to your body. It knows things. Pay close attention to your body cues.
5. Live one day (or even one MEAL) at a time. Don't be discouraged and beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. Just get back on with lots of helping hands.
6. Get exercise with activities you enjoy. If you don't like what you are doing, then you won't stick with it.
7. Keep track of what you eat. Write it down. You WILL 100% without a doubt make better choices if you hold yourself accountable for them.

Trying to find my routine and get BOT. Thanks for getting us started Amy. I have a "normal" lunch packed even tho it will be a shorter day. I'm heading right to Aldi's and then Pick and Save after work and don't want to be Hangry! Still figuring out a breakfast, DH is up now and not sure if he wants something or if I should just make my own and let him do a "production" tomorrow. Gray out this morning, chances of rain and then cold tomorrow, high in the 30's. Colder temps for all of next week and then maybe spring will finally come to stay. I have some daffodils that look like the want to bloom. Maybe I'll cut a few this afternoon and see if I can force them open in the house. Last night I worked on my sweater and got it past the first mountain color change, happy with it and will try to get the rest of the color work done this weekend, I'll post a picture at some point. Hoping for a little quieter crowd today at work, probably 5-6 appts and then I can leave right after 1. It does help when I'm there as the person who would have to do the appts can then do intake at the counter. I was just informed that we are having a mushroom, goat cheese omelette with chicken sausage and toast Can't fight city hall, ha ha. Really pretty point friendly so will track and enjoy. Hope you all have a great weekend. I will check in this afternoon at some point. Jan

I finally made myself do the online portion of my BLS renewal (CPR) and made an appointment to go for the skills checkoff this afternoon. Then I made "green fluff" aka Watergate salad, aka pistachio pudding dessert. went to the basement to get my steps. DH put together a beef stew in the crockpot. I had a bit of couch time in the afternoon. Cory came over at the usual time and I made some French bread to go with the beef stew. After dinner DH went to bed and DS, DD, & I played the 99 card game. After that we watched the new Wonka with Timothee Chalamay, which was pretty good. Lots of singing. I stayed up a bit too late with the kids, then finished a book, so I was short on sleep this morning.
It started out very gloomy this morning, but we have some sun now. We took the golf cart to the nature trail to walk then had bacon, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, and French toast for breakfast. DS has gone home and I need to leave soon for the BLS check off.
Vicki- Yay for going to the Y, getting a haircut, and a nap. I'm sure Rylee will enjoy all the activities you have planned for her, she's a lucky girl. Have fun sorting your coins.
Jan- WTG steps 10/11, PU, stretches, tracking, AF, having a better day yesterday. I am annoyed with the WW app too. It seems to be hit or miss trying to track the same meals as the day before. Yay for it going well with your mountain sweater.
Cindy- Sorry about all the rain and DS's retina problem. Hopefully it can be reversed easily. Hope friend/girl does better with the new doctor. We had thunderstorms yesterday morning but not a much rain as predicted.

Hi friends! Busy day yesterday, worked out, work, took the pups for a walk and then bunco. I was AF but gluttonous with the treats. One day it will all workout!! Today I worked out, DH and I went grocery shopping. Have some laundry going and I’m tired! Want to go the pups out for a walk but I see a nap in my future.
Amy, do you have garden walks? People would be amazed at your gardens!
Jan, I hope today was an easy day at work. Are you making the sweater for yourself? I’d love to see a picture!
Gg, that’s just the sweetest thing I’ve heard (what Rylee said). That really makes me pause about moving to FL. I’m trying not to think/worry about it until the time comes.
Cindy, you must be proud of DS telling the girl to see a dr. I hope your joints are feeling better.
Hello to all! Have a great day!!

Hi all Had a good day at work and got to leave before 1. Ran some errands, divided things up when I got home for the freezer and fridge. marched and danced around to get my AP bar before I decided to plop on the couch. I have been knitting, finished another chunky hat and getting my sweater front done, finished all the color work. Have some basketball on but waiting for the Ducks, who play at 8. Did have both the Wisconsin and then Illinois games on and they were both cliff hangers. will be a good match up between Ill and Wis tomorrow. Ds sent me some music he was working on, he makes things on the internet, beats or ? Glad he's still messing around with it. We just had LO meatloaf and potato for dinner. I'll probably make some tea for the game. We'll see if DH has to go to the store for some dessert Not sure what I'll be up to tomorrow. Don't have to go anywhere, have plenty to eat in the house and could always do some cleaning. Just wanted to check in. Have a great evening and Sunday. Jan Amy Sounds like fun with the kids. I get the name green fluff for the pistachio dessert but why Watergate? The flower picture is so pretty. I ended up buying a bunch of daffodils at the grocery store. I'll wait another week or so to cut some of mine. I am going to start It Ends With us, Colleen Hoover, series. Have you read any of those? I finally found the first two at the free shelf. Hope the BLS check off got done quickly, did you snoop anywhere else why you were out? Carole Did you take a nap or take the dogs out? Yay for being AF at Bunco, that is an almost impossible task!! I stayed out of the candy and junk at work but then had a chocolate mint when I got home. Could be worse I guess. Guess you'll just have to get a condo in Ill and then be snowbirds to your other condo in Florida I'm making another baby sweater, no reason, except I liked the pattern. I just put them all in a storage tub. Will either one day do etsy, or just have a sale or maybe get lucky with a GK. Cindy Good for DS to talk to GFish about being depressed and getting help. Glad she found a Dr that seems a bit more proactive and helpful. Is she visiting for the weekend? Did you continue to get the storms and rain today? Hope you stayed home, warm and snuggly. GG Are you tired tonight? Did/is Rylee spending the night or was it just for the day. Did Dh do the egg down the river experiment? Hope everyone stayed dry. I bet Rylee would have loved seeing the Ground Hog running around in the barn. have you heard anymore from Murphy? Have a nice Sunday. No green beer for us tomorrow, I think the last time that happened we were in college See you in the morning.

Hi All!
Umm, what is the motivation to just stuff oneself? Haven't reached that point yet but need to stop now. I'm think it is the need for energy.
Made a roast with small potatoes and carrots in the crockpot. Came out great but still want something else! I did use a crock pot liner...definitely made clean up easier.
Amy, thanks for getting us going. I slept in, guessing lack of sleep caught up with me. Hope your BLS renewal and skills part went well today. Love the pistachio pudding. Glad to get a good review on WONKA...been thinking about watching it. After he explained the whole visit to me, it seemed our optometrist was "a bit stressed". Was not happy that DS's last glasses were from Warby Parker and that he didn't want contacts. DS has used them in the past. I'm going to ask my eye surgeon to check out the retina issue, second opinion if nothing else. The test DS had done does not seem as good as the one I get at the surgeon's.
Jan, hope work was really quiet today. Congrats on making progress with your sweater. I always smile at your DH's breakfasts. My DH loved breakfast and I was a coffee person....weekends worked out but I always wonder how retirement would have worked. Do you think the tax office will remain open after this tax season?
GG, hope everything was absolutely wonderful with Rylee today. How is Addy and how is Jack doing? Hope you enjoy your haircut. I'm thinking to finally getting mine cut this coming week...famous last words.
Carole, do you think your kids might want to move to Florida? Lexi might really enjoy working with the turtle rescues. Not sure about Ty. If we didn't stay in TX, we would go back to Florida. DS was born in Florida.
Cathy, hope you had a wonderful week and are able to chat with family this weekend. How goes the food plan?
Liz, how are you doing and family?
Murphy, would love to have you check in. How is your brother and SIL doing? Hugs
Hoping to get to bed early tonight.
Hugs, Cindy
