Day 17 – End Overeating
Today we talk about overeating, when you eat more than you planned, or eat past fullness. Beck wants you to practice overeating by putting more food on your plate than you plan to eat. At the meal push the extra aside and only eat what you planned. Counter any thoughts you have about eating the extra food. At the end of the meal throw the extra away or save it for another meal.
How do you handle situations when there is too much food on your plate such as in a restaurant or if someone served you at a dinner party?

I probably won't do this. At home I serve myself my planned amount and eat that. At restaurants I usually take half of the entree home. Sometimes I have to talk myself into stopping my eating. At luncheons where I am served an amount usually, they aren't big servings so I'll eat most of it. What social events I go to in private homes I usually serve myself. I did have an occasion where I served myself too much but ate it all because I felt bad leaving food on my plate that I had served myself. If I do a good job talking to myself ahead of time I do fine.

I work on this a lot, so I feel that I don't need this special practice day. I've become very aware of when I've had enough to eat. I take small portions now, and I understand that I can always have more if I'm still hungry, or that I can eat again later if I get hungry again.

I definitely need to work on this, plus other weird habits I have. I'll go around the plate and eat one item at a time starting with my least favorite, this means if I hit 'full' my most tempting item is still on my plate. I need to really control my portions if I continue to do this or completely change the way I eat.

I'm much better at this at restaurants than I am at home. When eating out I often divide my plate in half right away to see if I can take some home for another meal. I don't ask for a box immediately, but I do make a division on the plate and that helps.
At home I tend to serve myself larger portions and go back for seconds more than I should.

There are days when I feel as if I practice this a lot! Friday was one of them. I don't relish throwing out food so I rarely take more than 1 serving. My problem with overeating is adding other things to the meal that weren't on plan.

I have a potluck tomorrow. There will be a variety of food as all 12 women will be bringing something and there will be three desserts...oh my. Ah well...will do my best and move on.
