Good morning. 24, feels like 14, cloudy, going to 37. Brrr! Winter is back!
Robin, exactly. That is what I wanted to get out in the open, the exclusive part. I have no doubts he is not dating or talking to anyone else, just by some things he says to me, but it is a wise idea to get that out in the open, for each of us. Most likely he will be calling his family doctor today, I had offered those gummies I have put away, to him just in case, he was interested, but did not come get them. He is really worried that one of the screws moved, in his hip. That means a trip down to Froedtert, in Milwaukee. HAHAHA, we both forgot about the container!!! Well, he was going to his DS birthday party, so I will give him that, but I forgot too. My favorite pizza crust is thin too.
Anngie, we have been dating/chatting for 6 weeks, so I felt it was time to get everything out in the open, as to what we want and the direction of things. He is such an easy guy to talk to, so it just came right out. With me just emailing what they needed, on Friday morning, I don't expect to hear from the office of the apartment today. My DS said I should call there Wednesday to see how things are going. Oh, my goodness!! Isn't that just the way!! Now there you sit with that gift card, but to look on the bright side, you can go out for dinner again!!! What kind of food did you end up having?
Gareth, yay on the birthday dinner! Glad everyone was able to be there, I know too, how it is, once the grands grow up, it is so hard to get everyone together at once. Refresh my memory, was dinner ribs? It seems when I eat foods like that, some always ends up on my shirt, then I try not to forget to pretreat it, when I get around to doing laundry. I found out that DGS prom is not till April 20th, so it is a few weeks from DGD's on April 6th. I may have to actually go over to DDs before DGS leaves to get his girlfriend, so I can take my own pictures of him. I love the fact that DGD will be here getting ready for her's. I told DD (her mom) that DGD can have my bedroom and bathroom, and do everything here, like take her shower and all. I guess my other DD and DGD3 will come, so DGD3 can help DGD with makeup and all. So, it will be a girlie afternoon here, with me getting a charcuterie board, and a few other things. Maybe some fake champagne for the girls.
Carol, yes! Lol, I guess we are going steady!! The funny thing about this, is my first serious or what I thought at the time was serious, back in high school, my first boyfriend that I went steady with had the name Bob!! Weird, right? This guy has such a large frame! After we chatted about our status and feelings, (just a little about our feelings), he asked me to come sit on his lap, as he wanted to smooch with me!!!! I hope you are laughing as much as I still am!! I have not sat on a man's lap since my teen years!!! Sitting on a regular sized man's lap I would not do, feeling I would be too heavy, but this man is quite sturdy, shall we say, I don't think he felt a thing!!! It will feel so weird if I don't have to wear glasses for driving, and basically just seeing, I will feel naked!!! Then I think I will get a bunch of cheaters, all different colors! I too have not had Peruvian food. I would not be surprised if we do not have that kind of food here in GB.
Hello to Pinky and Marsha.
Oh my...I sure do not want to go out for recess's today!!! Brrr!!! Certainly not wanting these cold temps and of course we have chances of snow for quite a few times coming up. I think El Nino has left the building!!! BOO HOO!!!

Carol and Karen, Peruvian food, like a lot of the other South American countries, are just different spices added but not spicy, and they serve things with rice and beans, and sometimes it's rice, beans, and French Fries. Sometimes they put a fried egg on top of a pork chop or steak which is a little different. This was OK, not great. One thing I know I can get DH is skirt steak, and they also make these sauteed bananas, or could be plantains, that he likes. I don't know if I would ever order from this place again. There is another restaurant on the same block that I order from sometimes, which is better. They also have a grilled swordfish that I love.
Carol, sorry you had bad weather on a Sunday when you had to go out to church. Nice that you could pick food up on the way home.
Anngie, sorry about what happened with that restaurant. Hopefully the fire didn't do too much damage, so they will re-open again soon.
Gareth, I am glad that you finally were all able to get together. It is fun looking at old pictures, and nice you all went out for ice cream too.
We had very nice weather last week, but it is definitely not going to be as warm this week. It even looks like we will have some lows in the 20's a few times. But still, it is mostly going to still be slightly above average temps.
I started reading a book that I like a lot. It is a back and forth in time book. In the late 1800's it is about a woman who marries the brother of Vincent Van Gogh. The current time is about a young woman who ends up with a diary her grandmother had, and it was this woman's diary. A very quick read so far.
I am going to try this week cooking dinners off the list that I wrote down. Not a daily one like Marsha, but just the things I know I can make that I have in the house. My corned beef last night came out particularly good. What I do is rinse it off, put it in a pot and bring it to a boil, cook 15 minutes, then change the water. I put the spice packet in after I change the water. That gets more of the salt out. Of course it is very salty, but this one did not taste salty at all. I trimmed some outside fat off before I cooked it, and it really did not have much other fat, which is good. And, I bought it in Aldi's. Not that it was particularly cheaper than other people's corned beef that was on sale, but it was a good one. I have enough left over to either make Ruben sandwiches for dinner one night, or Corned beef hash.

Its cold here now again too. I don't think it even made it to 30 yesterday and it was windy so BRRRR!!! About the same today but the wind died down and and the sun is shining brightly. Sounds like wintery weather for the last 2 weeks of March.
Karen---Good that you brought things out in the open with Bob. How fun to get to see DGD getting ready for the prom and also getting to join in on DGS day. Stay warm at recess today.
Robin---I am not sure the Peruvian food would be up my alley, but fun to try once. When we were in Punta Cana DR----I did not care for there food really at all. There chicken and beef were so tough and the seasoning just wasn't good to me. Their fish was good however.
I have errands to run in Watertown today along with having my eye looked at by my eye doctor. I have developed in my left eye what I think what people call floaters. This just started about a week or 10 days okay and I feel I need to have it checked. The only thing it seems to be just in one area more so and I am kinda worried about it. Maybe it is an aura like you have Karen and I am interested if you have this all the time or if it comes and goes? Also Gareth with your eyes what did you actually experience when you had to have the eye injections? Sorry I don't remember these details.
So I need to run and hi to all---have a great day!

The only frozen pizzas we buy these days are the cauliflower crust ones. If we want real pizza, we get one at Costco. They are very good and a very good deal. When ds was in middle and high school he would sometimes eat 2 frozen Jack’s pizzas every day so I bought a lot of them then.
Karen – good that you had a talk with Bob. He does seem like a very nice guy.
Pinky – good luck at the eye doctor. Let us know how it goes.
No exercise this weekend. In fact, it was another weekend where I basically sat like a slug! I finished The Librarian of Burned Books which was good. I started Of Sand and Ash which was one I got on Prime at some point. It is good but it's another Holocaust book and the last one was a holocaust book too so 2 in a row which I don't like to do. I got library notices that 1 of my holds came in today so I may download that and turn off wifi so that will be my next book.
I booked my flights to Phoenix for my mother's unveiling. The unveiling is 5/5 so I'll fly in on 5/4 (Saturday), my friend will pick me up at the airport and we'll get brunch and pedicures, then hopefully we'll meet up with my brother at my aunt's place and I'll go to dinner with him. I'm going to book a hotel near my aunt for Saturday night. My brother is leaving sunday straight from the cemetary because he has to be in L.A. by Monday, but I can't get any afternoon flights so I'll stay and spend the afternoon with my friend, then I'll get a hotel near the airport and I have a very early flight Monday morning.

Karen, LOL now I haven’t heard the work smooch in a long time! Again, we’re aging ourselves! It’s so nice you’ll be able to be a part of DGS and DGD’s proms! I remember my own sons and their jr. proms and sr. balls. It was so much fun and to be a part of. Maybe you’ll be able to post a couple pictures on our WOW site. For our “turn of events” dinner Saturday, we ended up both getting stuffed shrimp, baked potatoes and steamed broccoli. Very good. We usually get something like this because I rarely cook any kind of seafood. Since I could take or leave steak, I leave the seafood for eating out. (I know, it’s odd that steak isn’t on the top of my list)
Robin, it’s 35, windy, cloudy and miserable today - and most of the week. What was the title of that book?
Pinky, good idea to have your eye checked out.
Marsha, when you say unveiling, so you mean a memorial service? I admire how you have everything all planned out and it’s weeks away.
I heard over the weekend that A Gentleman in Moscow will be on Paramount+ soon. I think someone here read Boy in Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne. He wrote soon after All the Broken Places - has anyone read it?

Just back from HyVee. It's only 27Âş and windy. That wind is COLD! 55Âş tomorrow for the first day of Spring that being the warmest day for awhile so it's back to winter after that with even the possibility of snow. Knew the nice weather couldn't last.
I started Joyce Maynard's To Die For and have quit it already even though she's a favorite author of mine. I must like her more recent books. Now I've started One Puzzling Afternoon by Emily Critchley that I'm not too sure about either. I see Audible's Daily Deal today is The Little Liar for $2.99 but I have really mixed feelings about it even though I've liked all of Mitch Albom's books so I don't know what to do. I only have today to decide. I swear after every war or holocaust book never again.
Robin, what's the name of that book you've started? Sounds like something I'd like.
Karen, DS's ribs really weren't all that messy so no need for a bib! He glazes the ribs with extra BBQ sauce on the side. The glaze is enough for me. Any pictures of Bob?
Pinky, I really didn't have any symptoms with that eye except for thinking I needed new glasses. It showed up on an overdue because of Covid routine eye appointment. Hey was quite concerned and referred me right away to the retina specialist. At all my appointments they always ask about floaters but I've never experienced any. Good you're getting it looked at right away. I'll be anxious to hear what you find out.
Marsha, sometimes we just need a weekend of being a slug so nothing to feel guilty about. Between your job and how busy you usually are I'm sure you needed it.

Anngie, we were posting at the same time. I'm like you that steak isn't on the top of my list either. I can't even remember the last one I had. Your dinner out sounds really good. I haven't read either of those books.

Anngie - unveiling refers to the gravestone. I assumed this was something everyone does but maybe it's a Jewish thing. The stone will be set and covered with a cloth, things will be said, cloth removed. It is done some time between 30 days and 12 months after burial. I heard from the mortuary last week that the stone was done and we want to do the unveiling before summer so we are not out there when it is unbearably hot. What do other faiths do?

Marsha, the unveiling sounds lovely. I have never been to anything like that. I think around here people just order a headstone and then go out to look at it, but don't have a ceremony. I like the idea of having one though. Like I said, it seems like a lovely idea.
Robin, sounds like a pass on the Peruvian food. I like fried eggs but I don't really understand putting them on top of other food like hamburgers, etc.
I loved The Gentleman in Moscow. I'll have to watch it. I haven't read The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas but I know enough about it that I'm not sure I want to read it. I accidentally read a spoiler so "no thanks." I just started Honor by Thrity Umrigar. I think maybe Robin recommended it.
This is my stay at home and dust and vacuum day. Just taking a coffee break. I recently cleaned out a cabinet and found a lot of old papers. I'm going to start shredding them later.

It's been busy so far today. And, I am getting annoyed with this paralegal, but why should that be any different than normal. Maybe it's because I am still doing more things than I should.
Silly me, I did not say the name of the book. It's The Secret Life of Sunflowers. Funny thing about this book, I think the cover is ugly, so I kept pushing it off. Does anyone else pick a book based on the cover?
I now got another phone call, and am going to have a busy rest of my day, so will check back either later or tomorrow.

Marsha, the funeral and burial is the same day and in my experience the headstone seems to already be there because most of the time it’s the spouse that has passed now. In fact, I can’t even remember the last time I have been at the burial without a headstone already placed. What hasn’t happened yet is the engraving (first name and maybe date) of the one that has just passed. It will be done at a later date, but no ceremony. It’s been years (thankfully) that I have been at a funeral/burial where it was a child or younger person and therefore no stone yet.
Please correct me if I’m wrong, so there wasn’t a stone put there when your DF passed and now it has been placed since the spouse has passed on?
I should add, the pandemic has changed things a lot in how obituaries, funerals and burials are done now.

Anngie - my dad has a stone (well actually in Phoenix it's more of a plaque set flat on the ground. I guess there is no worry that it will be covered with snow!) and my mother is next to him and will have her own identical stone.

Marsha, my parents have the foot stones as well. We are going to be in Boston the weekend you are going to AZ. DH has a conference there, and I will go up with him. On Saturday we will change hotels to the one near DS1, and stay over until Sunday, so we can see them.
Anngie, we do unveilings, and there is a stone if it is a family stone that is up before, but we don't put the name on then. It's a custom, not a law, and generally done within a year of the death, some like to do it at the first anniversary of the death. We did my mother's later, and I was going to say because of Covid, but that wasn't it. It was I think more that no one was taking care of it, there was a lot more to do, and also, in the Jewish tradition, if you are pregnant you don't go to a cemetery. Now that I am thinking about it, we never really did an actual unveiling, as it was more the height of Covid, then we had one pregnancy after another so didn't plan it. I could have forgotten for all I know. Most of the time it is only immediate family who comes to the unveiling.
Karen, I was remiss in not commenting about the proms. I don't remember my kids having Junior Proms, but their Senior Proms were a big deal. DS1 did not have a girlfriend, but somehow he had a date. It ends up being more of a group thing. The funny thing is that we had a great picture of him with the girl he took that DH had in his office until fairly recently, when I swapped it out for one of DS1 & DDIL when they did their engagement pictures. That will be a lot of fun when you have DGD over at your apartment to get ready. I am sure you will end up with pics of DGS and his girlfriend. You will have to post them all.
Gareth, I have also liked these 2 recent books of Joyce Maynard, but did not read her earlier ones.
Anngie, I like having shrimp in the freezer. All shrimp, certainly around here, are frozen, so I buy them that way. They are so easy to make, and I can always throw together some kind of pasta and shrimp dish if I want, or mix it into a rice mix like I did last week for jambalaya, or with a pre-made frozen fried rice. They cook so fast.
I am one of the few that didn't like Gentleman in Moscow. I haven't ever finished it, but was close. I did read Honor, and may have mentioned it recently after I read The Museum of Failures by the same author. Honor is a difficult read. I haven't read Boy in the Striped Pajamas or All the Broken Places, but I did read John Boyne's book The Heart's Invisible Furies, which I loved. Which brings us around to Holocaust books. Both of his others are, as is The Little Liar. What is different about The Little Liar is that it takes place in Greece. Many of the people there hid during that time period. I haven't really loved Mitch Albom's other books, but he is a fantastic speaker, and the last time I heard him I got a copy of The Little Liar as part of it. I have it sitting here and I am sure I will read it one day.
