Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

SHAPING UP FOR SPRING! February 11 - March 31
Spring is coming!
Supportive Friends Progress not Perfection Renewal of Being Inspiration New Habits Great Success!
This can be your Spring! This can be your success! No more rationalizing and making excuses.
This challenge isn't just about being alcohol free though it is the focus of the board. It is about finding and giving encouragement, getting healthy, loving ourselves, and finding what works and what doesn't. This is NOT about making ourselves feel badly about the unhealthy choices, it is about celebrating the healthy ones. So let's go for it!
As always, the rules aren't complicated. Simply no alcohol and staying on your food plan. If you get off track, don't give up....don't throw away the day, the night, the week. We are working on progress not perfection.
You may have alcohol issues that you cannot manage on your own and our group is here to support you and encourage you to get the help you might need. You may have alcohol issues that you can control but have to exert the motivation and our group is here to support you.
Spring clean your cupboard early! If you have junk food, tempting alcohol, or trigger foods in your kitchen, you are setting yourself up for failure. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is always going to happen. Don't make it easier for yourself to give in to it. Assess your kitchen, ask if this helps or hinders me. DO NOT have sentimental attachment to food or alcohol. The stuff will always be there, it does not magically disappeared but your health can be compromised! This is your life! Make it the best!
REMEMBERā¦. 1. Work the Plan and the Plan works! Think of your new eating plan as a lifestyle change -- one that will have ups and downs, with good days and (very few) bad.
2. Don't deprive yourself. A food plan should be about SATISFACTION. Find foods you LOVE that will help you meet your goal.
3. Drink lots of water. Water is good for you.
4. Listen to your body. It knows things. Pay close attention to your body cues.
5. Live one day (or even one MEAL) at a time. Don't be discouraged and beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. Just get back on with lots of helping hands.
6. Get exercise with activities you enjoy. If you don't like what you are doing, then you won't stick with it.
7. Keep track of what you eat. Write it down. You WILL 100% without a doubt make better choices if you hold yourself accountable for them.

While I was waiting for it to warm up a bit yesterday morning I worked on some online CE courses so that I can renew my nursing license. DH had an appointment with his dermatologist so I headed to the nature trail to get some steps. When I got back I had lunch and some couch time. DH grilled steaks for dinner, I made a salad and we had some leftover roasted carrots. I went to bed at a decent time but got involved with the end of a book, stayed up too late finishing it, and had trouble then falling asleep. I'm really dragging this morning, hopefully walking revives me.
It's sunny in the 30's, heading to the 60's. The bird feeders are empty again, so that needs to get done at a minimum. Folks are posting about seeing hummingbirds, so I may make some nectar and put a feeder out.
Jan- Yay for being happy with WI, GL with all the Easter temptations. The yoga instructor does not seem concerned about squeezing twice as many people in the space. Maybe the point of the Oprah special was to encourage more acceptance/understanding of people with obesity and talk about her own journey.
Cindy- Thanks for getting us started. Beef stroganoff sounds good. I need to swap out my St. Patrick's decorations for Easter stuff too. I sure hope the doctor is wrong about his Covid vaccine/cancer theory. Glad DS's weight is in a healthy range and the lab oddities turn out to be nothing. Yay for the mowers showing up!

Not sure you could tell that Spring has arrived but still glad for the longer daylight hours. Cold for the next week or so, only 30s most days. Guess itās good Iām still just going to work and not pining about getting outside to clean up in the yard. Soon enough. Have my plan in place for the day, need to go pack my lunch and then Iāll shower before breakfast. NSV was 3 peanut butter GS patties going out in the trash this morning. I know they are not as good as they used to be, and smaller and I still felt I had to keep eating them. Another box with cookies is going to work today. Saw some pics last night of DS enjoying his time at the beach, and beautiful sunset. Guess for now I will live vicariously through his adventures. Sure it will be busy again at work, we just all keep plugging away and try not to get too far behind. We currently have 4 drawers done waiting to be picked up, so now itās the people who are holding us up, canāt e file them until they come sign and pay. Havenāt picked up my knitting, need to just make a decision and move forward. Donāt want to cast on anything new right now until a few things get finished, but not sure what I will work on tomorrow morning when I go to the Senior Center. Maybe just go visit . Hope you all have a great day and itās feeling more like spring where you are. I will check in this afternoon. Jan Cindy Thanks for starting us. Is the grass even mowable yet between the wet and has it grown? Thanks for getting us going, wasn't sure anyone would be on before work. You've been getting up early these days. Have you been doing any Dr internet about the covid cancer info? I looked and it is hard to sort out as there are certainly theories from the anti vaccs, and a lot of I told you so. There are also reports for different hospitals and medical groups that are looking into the up rise in cases and looking for a link. Will just be another huge controversy either way. Hope DS tests all come out well and the momma worries can go away again for awhile.
Amy Glad you got in your walk even tho DH had other places to go. Maybe you'll get a happy medium at yoga. Yay for renewing your license. I'm almost done with my Colleen Hoover book, not sure it was such a hot seller, interesting take on the topic of abuse, but goes a bit overboard with the sex scenes, I know GG wouldn't like it!! I will read the 2nd one but then move on to some of my more favorite authors. I want to get the Hannah book about the Vietnam nurses next!
Hi to all.

Hi girls. I wanted to post before heading out. I was down 1.2 pounds today. It makes absolutely no sense. Whatever, Iāll take it. Hopefully it will help my mindset. I was surprised that the Oprah special was only about the medicines. Like Amy, I wish they would have talked more about the side effects. And the big pharmaceutical companies blaming the insurance, and Iām sure the insurance would blame the big pharmaceuticals. I think it was Jan that said the price wonāt be coming down any time soon. I do think the special was to get people talking and normalizing the idea of obesity being a disease. Plus they kept saying this medicine has been around for 20 years, so it isnāt really ānewā. I would love not having the food noise in my head. Why sometimes can I shut it up, and sometimes I canāt? š¤·š¼āāļø Oh, and guess what? DHās cough is finally gone. Just in time for his new doctorās appointment on April 1. Oh well, he has lots of other things to talk to him about!
Amy: When I wrote I was convicted in church, I meant I was feeling guilty. Our Sunday School lesson was about sin. The question was asked, what sin have you tried over and over to get rid of, but you still have? For me it was gluttony, because I had been just shoving the food in and not even tasting it. And really, why do I do it? Because I like it, even if I know itās not what God wants.
Jan: How well we know each other! Haha. Youāre right about that book! I turn off movies because of language and either fast forward the sex scenes, or turn them off too, depending how bad they are. Thereās so little even on tv that I watch. It just goes against my beliefs.
Cindy: How amazing for DS to have lost the weight! I understand the mama worries. Hopefully heāll have good results back soon. Thatās scary about the cancer and Covid shots. So many people are being diagnosed with cancer in our church and our community. It does make you wonder about the additives in our food, etc.
I was reading in my journal yesterday about my overeating and WW meetings and notes I have taken over the years. I read where I was writing down things from Annie Grace and her challenge. There was so much good information on that site.
I need to get ready for Bible study. Iām really glad to be a part of this group. š

Hi all. Just finished dinner, DH did scallops and I asked him to make me 3 shrimp since they said I have no allergy. Guess we'll sit here and see what happens I'm sure I'll be fine and they sure tasted good! Actually got out of work today by 2 so I ran to Aldis for a few things, just fruit and got DS some gummy bears for his easter box I'll mail later. NSV at work was NO donuts that a customer brought for us, but I did have a homemade peanut butter cookie. Guess that's somewhat balanced Did a little knitting when I got home and now just going to relax. DH will have some basketball on later, sure Cindy will be watching the Celtics/Bucks game. Tomorrow is knitting and then another longer day of appts. They are talking bigger snow by this weekend, hopefully it will be the last if it shows up. Fingers crossed the flower buds and trees don't freeze. No other big news. Will see you in the morning. Jan GG Well at least DH cough is gone, hope his Dr appt goes well. Glad the scale went down even though we usually never know why We know why it goes up tho!! I had reread Annie Grace again at the end of the year, maybe that's when it finally sank in and something stuck. Just keep looking for ideas and help and you will find it. Hope you had fun at bible study.

Hi All,
Hard fought battle with Celtics pulling out the win, beating out the Bucks.
Jan, glad it showed no allergy to shrimp. Hopefully all goes well after eating them. Enjoy tomorrow with your knitting group. Fingers crossed that the snowstorm is not too bad. Glad DS is having a great time! It's a balancing act with the mowing. The water has receded into the ground and there was enough growth of weeds/clover/grass to mow. For the area that gets sun, he uses an industrial size mower. In the areas shaded and has bushes, the area is either mowed with a push mower or a trimmer. They have a system and I just go with it. I have been looking into the Covid Cancer link and as you say, conflicting reports but one article I read was by PBS and the premises was the FDA was not doing their due diligence in approving drugs. I could drive myself crazy reading articles and doubt we will ever know the truth.
Amy, did you start with the Easter decorating? I did get the last of the St. Patrick's Day stuff put away and put the Easter LED candles up. Realized they aren't on a timer so guess I will go through batteries. I have the candles on cast iron candle stick holders with leaves and birds decorating the stem. They sit on the mantle and one is 2 feet tall and the other 3 feet tall. I can reach the two feet one to turn off the candle but once the other one is on, it is on unless DS comes by and turns it off. Hope the online CE courses went well. Do you many more to go? I saw postings about hummingbirds also and was thinking of getting a feeder back up. We have so many redwing black birds, they are pushing out other birds. I was happy to see mourning doves this morning. I do hope the doctor and his group are wrong about the connection between the vaccine and cancer also.
Vicki, woot for being down! I agree about food additives. Remember when red food dye was a big issue? I think it still is. I have two friends whose husbands are going through cancer treatment. They are in their sixties. Very glad DH's cough is gone and hope he has had a positive experience with his doctor. I'm glad we are part of this group too!
Hi Cathy, Liz, Carole and Murphy!
DS had 5 more vials of blood taken today. Fingers crossed that he gets results in the AM.
Wishing everyone a good evening.
Hugs, Cindy

Two days or more of overindulging has the scale up. The lack of internet and other issues may have lowered my resistance to food along with being in social groups with delicious foods to taste and gobble up. Today will be an OP day and I will walk while reading. No personals as I need to post before we lose internet (again).
