Bev, sending supportive thoughts your way! Following Bev's idea for the week - here's a link to a site with some ideas for adding fruits and vegetables (Jan's goal). I've included the "6 basic" ideas. The article includes additional info with suggestions for each meal and snacks. fruitsandveggies.org/stories/tips-for-adding-fruits-veggies-to-every-meal/Half Your Plate. Fill half your plate with fruits and veggies at every meal and snack. Add More. Add extra fruits and vegetables to dishes, even if they already contain/call for them in the recipe. Substitute. Substitute fruits & veggies in any meal β theyβre lower in calories than many other foods. Stay Stocked. Always stock frozen and canned fruits & veggies for quick meal prep. Choose canned fruit and vegetables without added sugar, syrup, cream sauces, or other ingredients that will add calories. Steam & Flavor. Steamed vegetables make great sides. Add flavor with low-calorie or low-fat dressings and herbs and spices. Grab & Go. Always have fresh fruits and vegetables in easy-to-grab places (a fruit bowl, sliced in the fridge, trail mix) Thoughts? Additional ideas?

Judy - great ideas...I made a goal one time to have a fruit and vegetable at every meal and it was nice. I still wish I could eat without tracking my intake BUT it seems tracking keeps me more honest.
Another thing that some do for the fruit-veg intake it to get in "the rainbow" daily
BEVERLY: Hugs...thinking of you and your husband and hoping for the best outcome.

Prayers for Bev's husband and her. {{hugs}}

Some of you may know that I attend morning services Monday through Saturday (and on the Sundays I don't teach Sunday school). Near the end of services is a prayer for healing; everyone in the room is encouraged to say out loud who we're thinking of. Everywhere I attend services, everyone in the room knows about Bev's husband, because I say it each morning (along with others, including that of the neighbor across the way from my house whose surgery was this past Wednesday and she'll stay with her daughter in another part of San Diego for the next 6 weeks or so). I received Bev's permission before I added her husband to my list, so she already knows. Just think: people Bev doesn't know, or her husband doesn't know, people across the country who don't know either Bev or her husband, have been praying for his complete recovery every morning ever since she told us on this thread about his condition.
As for adding fruits and veggies to every meal: I still don't add to breakfast on a daily basis. I make a variation of Hungry Girl's Egg in a Mug for breakfast most days. When available, I also eat an orange from my small tree, but most of the year, it doesn't produce (it's a naval orange and the season just ended). What veggie(s) do any of you recommend to add to the mug? When we have mushrooms, I add them, but I don't add onions (since it's the beginning rather than the end of the day). what else do you recommend?
