Good morning. Raining; will come and go all day, 49, high of 56.
Robin, the snow is long gone now, with the rain taking over. As I said before, most likely the sofa will not be coming with me. With the apartment so small, and the living room really not having one good sized wall to put it, it does not make sense. Most likely I will make a twice baked potato dish. Sorry your DH had to stay in the hospital. You are working around his being there, aren't you? That is a lot of stress on you, take care of yourself.
Gareth, did I just see on the weather part of the news that Iowa is getting snow? That stinks. I hated to see it snowing the other day, we are all so over that, after all the warm weather we have had already. The reason I was irritated about DSIL deciding he wanted to do dessert is, between him and DD, they make so much stuff, we might as well not bring anything. I understand that he loves to cook but come on! Plus, I like making desserts, and in the past few years, someone else always jumps on the dessert dish to bring before I can volunteer that.
Pinky, sorry you had that snowstorm, and also sorry the funeral got postponed. From the obituary you posted that I read, I would imagine also that the funeral will be very well attended. He sounded like a very popular and well-loved man. When DH was alive, I was the same way about cleaning; I did not care to do it when he was around (underfoot). Now that nobody is here, I tend to slack off a bit, except for things like cleaning the bathrooms, and the kitchen.
Marsha thanks for jumping in and explaining about Froedtert. I have a feeling you will be going on the trip, bit the bullet and book it. But you do have every right to feel ticked about how this is working out. I had no plans on taking both TV's, especially since I do not watch TV in the evenings, I would not want one in the bedroom. There is one in there from DH. Great idea about the floor plan, I think there is one on their website.
Carol, wow, what a story about the woman being told that at the hospital, then living so much longer. My DB wanted us to haul my DM to Mayo in Minnesota, when the cancer team told us she had 6 months to live. They were very clear as to what she had and what would happen. At that time, (2002) there was no hope for uterine cancer, at stage 4. She did not want to go to Mayo, so my DS and I said no, she is not going. She lasted about 6 weeks. Every patient is different. I absolutely love what you told Marsha: tell her no and that is a complete sentence. Perfect! We all need to remember that.
Anngie, Marsha gave a very good description of Froedtert hospital. Thanks for asking about it. I took DH to it, back in 2007, and was just amazed at it. Most likely I will make twice baked potatoes. Thanks to someone here, I am rethinking how I was going to serve it. The recipe I love to make for it requires baking right before serving, but I know that other people will be using DD's oven right before dinner, so I will modify the recipe to go into a crock. How was dinner? I would give anything to go to an Italian restaurant!!!
Long long story about the apartment application. They never got all the stuff I emailed to them Thursday. (Thanks for not telling me!) So, I ran over there in fact twice yesterday, during some good rainfall, with what she needed. As I said, this has turned into a very long story, so I will not go into everything. She has assured me she has everything she needs. (This all turned south because for the most part the way the school system pays; their pay schedule, and them needing so many pay stubs) I should be getting an answer by Friday. Nothing like right under the gun. If this drags into the beginning of April, I will have to not sign the lease, and then be paying a huge rent starting in June, till this is all settled. (the June 1st rent will be very high, without a lease). I am sorry if my explanation is not clear, it is just too much to type out here.

Karen, I knew that your work from the school would give them issues. I assume they asked for W-2's, and they would not match up with the paystubs you provided. Someone who really knows what they are doing would have to figure it out, so you can fit within their guidelines, and then you may not even be including everything they want to include. Do you have an IRA? If you do, this is the year that you would have to start taking your RMD. The thing I sometimes find about floor plans for apartments, because I know this was what happened sometimes when my DS's were renting, is that they are not always that accurate, so hopefully you would find something that is. I hope you will get it all worked out, and will find places for all your furniture. Would you have to buy a new couch if yours can't fit?
DH may come home today, but they are doing the CT scan. I asked DDIL2's DF to give him a call. He has so many questions, and because he went in as an emergency, without having his own GI doctor, they assigned people to him, that he is just not that sure about. The thing around here is that we certainly have great medical care, so we don't have to go far for a 2nd opinion. The hospitals have grown tremendously over the past few years, and there are 2 huge systems within 10 minutes of me that fight over which doctor is affiliated with which. They are both teaching hospitals too, for better or worse I suppose. There is also one big hospital that is known as a heart hospital. We do go into Manhattan for the orthopedic hospital, or for Sloan Kettering for cancer treatment, but they have satellite offices on Long Island, so when you go for consultations or follow up, you don't have to go into the city.
Karen, sorry to hear that story of your DM. The thing with my aunt is that it is Stage 2. If it was Stage 4, they might think differently.
Marsha, I agree about going on that trip. Aggregate all your plane fare to see your DM, and your ticket to wherever they are going will be less. Think of it that way. If you are not travelling with DH, treat yourself to this trip.
Anngie, Marsha said it right, Virgin River is sappy but good. I watched another 4 episodes last night. If I could figure out how to get Netflix on the bedroom TV I might have watched another one.

Karen - what I did when my mother moved is draw out the rooms to scale and cut out paper the size of the furniture, then move them around on the floor plan to see how things would fit. Like Robin said, the floor plan might not be drawn correctly but if it includes dimensions you should be able to reproduce it.
Robin - I hope they release dh today. Is he feeling well?
This morning was a Y morning. I slept in a little so I had to cut my treadmill time from 20 to 10 minutes but got in an extra lap on the track after the weight workout.
RV, PHX and I had a facetime call last night. End result of that is we are not going that week in July that RV's dh and ds are in Vegas. She is going to go somewhere but it isn't going to be "our weekend". So we are still trying to figure out where to go. We agreed that ideally it is either somewhere that we have some kind of project during the day (there is a mosaic workshop that PHX's cousin is running somewhere north of San Francisco that we are considering) or somewhere that we can all do our own thing during the day and meet up for dinner and evening like at an all inclusive (this is my first choice but I don't think we'll end up with that). We agreed that when we pick a location then we have to agree on what to do all day it gets dicey. We're going to talk again next weekend.

It is only 18 degrees here this more and very windy so snow is blowing and the roads are treacherous. It has quit snowing now however but still moving around. Most schools are cancelled again today or have had a late start. We didn't get as much as they said we could but I would guess 6 or 7 inches. Hard to tell for sure when the wind blows it around so much.
Karen---you are the same as me when it comes to the kitchen and bathrooms, they must be clean. Dusting at my house is another story, I can let that go awhile. Yes my DBIL was very well liked and well known and he did alot over the years where many people knew him. There was even a bouquet of flower sent by our Governor Kristi Noem and her husband. I am sure it was because he had been in the legislature but it was before she was governor. Funny how a patient where DD works at the clinic said to her "I didn't know Claire was your Uncle" as they had been in the legislature together. Small world. Good thing you called yesterday about the apartment to find out about the missing papers----why didn't they have them and then not some of the papers??? Hope it all works out for you.
Robin---That is a bummer that DH is still in the hospital. I am sure if DDIL's father calls him he can answer questions and hopefully make DH and you too feel better about the whole thing.
Marsha---good thing you are all getting on the same page about the trip planning and knowing what you each are doing before you get there. Otherwise you can waste a better part of a day when you get there to figure it all out. Good idea! So this must mean you are not going over the 4th of July?
Hi to all!

Karen, boy, bottom line, it’s a darn good thing you keep your paystubs! Some people don’t or can’t find them. Good thing is, you should know by Friday. If it’s a yes, do you take over the new apt. April 1st? And I forgot, your old lease is up when? If they should let you know early Friday, maybe you could get over their latter in the day or Saturday to take some quick measurements. Being Easter they may reduce their hours, but it never hurts to ask. Exciting times!! Twice baked potatoes sound great! Yes, I had mentioned that I keep mashed potatoes warm in my crockpot. I remember, years ago, trying to convince a girl I worked with how well this works and that I wouldn’t do it any other way. She would look at me like I was crazy - until she broke down and tried it! Now she doesn’t do it any other way! (people are so funny)
Marsha, wow, RV is quite the personality, isn’t she! I can see how tiring this is getting for you. I guess the question is, are they fun to be around - once you get to the destination?! Just go! And make it a long weekend! You deserve a getaway. I’m sure once a location is chosen you can find fun things to do whether it’s together or separately.
Robin, I wonder about teaching hospitals too. I equate this with going to a doctor and they have a student in there with them. If you remember I’ve dealt with this when I have my GYN appointment. I’m not happy about it and next year I’ll say something. But of course, students have to learn someplace, somewhere.

I thought rain was predicted but we're getting snow instead. It's just now starting to stick on grassy areas since the temp has started to drop. Wish winter would just get its last hurrah over with. I shouldn't complain after reading about Pinky's weather.
I was really impressed with MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston when I was there with my stepmom when she had lung cancer. Her life was prolonged though I wonder really how worth it was for the quality of life she had at the end.
I was surprised yesterday that everyone thought I should've just dropped everything and met DF for breakfast. She was pulling into the restaurant's parking lot while we talked. She'd have had to wait since I was in the middle of walking and would've had to change my clothes and quick get ready. Like I've said she's done that before which I think is a little inconsiderate but that's her. I've told her before I need a little advance notice since I'm not always ready to just head out the door on a moment's notice. Is everyone else able to do that?
Karen, hope you hear something soon. I didn't know it was so much rigmarole to get an apartment.
Marsha, think it's probably wise not to plan a trip on the July 4th weekend.
Robin, probably a good thing they're not in a rush to release DH like it seems they are sometimes.
Anngie, I hear what you're saying about having a student present at an exam. I've always been asked first if it's ok with me.

DH is having his CT scan at 1;30, so that is soon. He texted DS and asked him to forward his DFIL his last 3 lab results, so he can give his opinion on things. It's the white blood cell counts they are concerned with. I am also surprised that they are not in a rush to push him out. Maybe it's for 1 of 2 reasons, he's a lawyer, and he has great insurance. They know they are going to get paid 100% without having to chase anyone down.
Marsha, I know there are places that I have enjoyed for long weekend vacations, but I am suspecting that RV has been to all of them. I am thinking that from what you have told us about her, even if she agrees to go again, she would be the type to be telling you about all the times that she had been there in the past. Some of my favorites are Memphis, New Orleans, Yellowstone, and Las Vegas, and not for gambling in Las Vegas. I know there are other national parks that people love, but I have not been.
Gareth, maybe while you know she is already pulling in is a little much, too much pressure on you to get there quickly.
Pinky, I did read that about your DBIL that he was a legislator, so not surprised that a lot of people know him. Maybe your governor's time in the legislature overlapped with him.
Anngie, I think most places now allow you to access paystubs online, so people don't have to hold onto them like they used to.
DS2 and I just came back from having someone sign a Power of Attorney. It was at the big heart hospital here. It turns out that we may end up getting a bunch of other work out of it. This 90 year old man had a girlfriend for a long time. She died, and apparently his children are dysfunctional enough that they don't know what to do, so this man's son is going to give him our number to have a consult. They live up in Buffalo, but she was here, so they probably just can't figure things out about how it would work. We stopped at a place that DS and I both really like, but DH does not, to get lunch. It is a Mediterranean place like Chipolte where you order at the counter, and they fill your bowl or sandwich. This will be like my dinner, then I can have a light meal later, after I see DH, or if he is coming home, once I pick him up. DH is very limited with what he likes, Asian, Italian or steak. If it comes from somewhere else, like the Peruvian, it's fine as long as he can order something he likes, like skirt steak. Hopefully any new diet he has to follow will work with those.

Gareth, I didn't weigh in about your friend and not going to breakfast. Probably I would be like you and not go especially since she was already at the place. I wonder why she didn't call a little sooner.
About no being a complete sentence and not being obligated to give reasons. Once 3 friends were going shopping in Dallas and asked me to go. I said no because my kids were in swimming lessons. One of the 3 said can't they skip, can't your DH take them and then take them to a babysitter, and on and on. She just wouldn't take my answer. Just another reason I wasn't sad when she moved away. Someone said if they keep asking, just say no, I can't do that right now everytime they push it.
Karen, does your new apartment complex have a website? Some of them have apartment layouts on them.
Robin, my cousin went to Sloan-Kettering when he was diagnosed with bile duct cancer. Sorry your DH is still in the hospital.
Anngie, how do you keep mashed potatoes in the crockpot?
Pinky, it is colder here. Hard to imagine it being so cold at the end of March.
Marsha, hope you get your trip straightened out.

Has anyone been on a Road Scholar trip? I was looking at those and that's now at the top of my list of things I want to do for the girls' weekend. I sent my friends a list of the programs that interest me and I'll see what they say. I think RV will like this, not sure about PHX. It's a little more money but the program fees include accomodations and in most cases most of the meals so I think in the end it wouldn't really be much more depending on which trip we would choose.

Robin, I agree (re paystubs) I sure hope that’s the case for Karen! That would be great to get more business out of this!
Marsha, never heard of this but it sounds interesting. Let’s hope Phx will think the same!
Carol, I cook the potatoes, mash/whip them and then put them in an already warm crockpot sprayed with Pam. This will keep them hot for hours. Can’t get any easier!

Marsha, Road Scholar is the same company that used to be called elderhostel. My mother had gone on those. My understanding was that their accommodations are not as high a level as some. You can probably cross reference the hotels and get an idea.

Robin - thanks. They list the hotels so I could check that, but I'm more interested in what the programming is like. they have a ton of things so my guess is that it's pretty good but I'd be curious to hear if anyone has actually gone and has comments.
