Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

SHAPING UP FOR SPRING! February 11 - March 31
Spring is coming!
Supportive Friends Progress not Perfection Renewal of Being Inspiration New Habits Great Success!
This can be your Spring! This can be your success! No more rationalizing and making excuses.
This challenge isn't just about being alcohol free though it is the focus of the board. It is about finding and giving encouragement, getting healthy, loving ourselves, and finding what works and what doesn't. This is NOT about making ourselves feel badly about the unhealthy choices, it is about celebrating the healthy ones. So let's go for it!
As always, the rules aren't complicated. Simply no alcohol and staying on your food plan. If you get off track, don't give up....don't throw away the day, the night, the week. We are working on progress not perfection.
You may have alcohol issues that you cannot manage on your own and our group is here to support you and encourage you to get the help you might need. You may have alcohol issues that you can control but have to exert the motivation and our group is here to support you.
Spring clean your cupboard early! If you have junk food, tempting alcohol, or trigger foods in your kitchen, you are setting yourself up for failure. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is always going to happen. Don't make it easier for yourself to give in to it. Assess your kitchen, ask if this helps or hinders me. DO NOT have sentimental attachment to food or alcohol. The stuff will always be there, it does not magically disappeared but your health can be compromised! This is your life! Make it the best!
REMEMBER…. 1. Work the Plan and the Plan works! Think of your new eating plan as a lifestyle change -- one that will have ups and downs, with good days and (very few) bad.
2. Don't deprive yourself. A food plan should be about SATISFACTION. Find foods you LOVE that will help you meet your goal.
3. Drink lots of water. Water is good for you.
4. Listen to your body. It knows things. Pay close attention to your body cues.
5. Live one day (or even one MEAL) at a time. Don't be discouraged and beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. Just get back on with lots of helping hands.
6. Get exercise with activities you enjoy. If you don't like what you are doing, then you won't stick with it.
7. Keep track of what you eat. Write it down. You WILL 100% without a doubt make better choices if you hold yourself accountable for them.

Getting myself ready to head to my meeting. Tried to talk myself out of it this morning, scale is the same here, will show up at WW, it's rainy and wet, I need to pack lunch and breakfast, wah wah wah. Got in the shower, made my meals and will head out shortly. I know the blip will mostly be from nachos and ramen the other night. It's temporary. I met my protein goal yesterday, have been getting my AP and steps, avoided all work junk food. I have been taking some of the inside of the pie we bought, just some of the bottom crust as I am not a crust person Then I add strawberries, cherries applesauce, whatever fruit we have and it makes the yummiest fruit bowl and it feels like a huge portion of pie. Heard from DS yesterday, he had gotten some bad food poisoning or ? the day before they were to come home, lots of throwing up, luckily pretty done by the time they had to fly. Said he was starting to feel better, he was at the dentist in NY getting some fillings and then home to Boston last night. Fingers crossed this is the week to hear something from Miami. I'm nervous, DH is nervous, all we can do is wait and know there's some crazy reason either way that this has been a difficult journey for him, someone that things have always come pretty easy to. Better get moving. I will check in after work, good, bad or ugly Will be a longer day but with the gray doesn't really matter. Got paid yesterday and that always lifts my spirits. And I found the cute quarter holders at Aldis, I got a taco one and a Daisy. I sent the Taco to DS in an Easter Egg. He'll just think his mom is such a dork. Ha ha. Have a great day all. Jan Cindy Thanks for starting us. Hope the errands run smoothly.

DH & I took the golf cart to the nature trail to walk yesterday morning, the weather was lovely. When we got back we laid the paver edgers next to the address sign, looks nice, will look better after some mulch around the plants. I chatted with the neighbor across the street who gave me a brussel sprout plant. I'm not sure this is the right time to be planting it, but it is cold hardy. Then lunch and couch time. We had 4 people for yoga, which is the minimum for her to hold the class. She's already cancelled for next Monday due to the Easter holiday and I'll be in Indiana the next Monday for the eclipse. DH got Phillies from the food truck for dinner, one steak, and one chicken. They were yummy and pretty much tasted the same to me. I had 1/4 of the chicken and 1/4 of the steak, it was plenty. I went to bed at a decent time but had a bit of trouble falling asleep.
It's raining now and is supposed to continue for most of the day. I'm getting my hair cut this afternoon.
Vicki- Yay for a good time with the water aerobics group, coming home with a bunch of daffodils, fun with Addi. WTG attending WW Zoom.
Cindy- Thanks for getting us started. WTG getting paperwork done. Sorry about more rain. Hope DS gets some word from the specialist soon. Yay for a sunny day today, good luck with your errands. I have started thinking about packing for the big trip and bought a small back pack to take on the plane.
Jan- WTG steps 10/11, PU, stretches, AP, blue dot, AF, meeting protein goal, going to WW meeting. The pie bowl sounds yummy. Sorry DS was feeling yucky at the end of the trip.

Cindy- There is a huge patch of lily of the valley at my Mom's house. I brought some home and planted it a clay pot. It lives outside all year, but I move it to the shaded porch in the summer. This will be the second summer I've kept it alive.

Hi friends! We’re having a good time in FL! Weather has been ok, windy—but we’ve been outside all day so I won’t complain! I was going to go paddle boarding today but it’s too windy, maybe tomorrow. Alexis and Anthony broke up. Not sure why, it was his fault though (she explicitly said!) but don’t know why. Of course he has her kitten —I’m sure Tyler is allergic, Juno might eat it, and Anthony’s dog and the cat love each other—so not sure of the plan. I feel horrible for her. We sent her some cookies by design so I hope that puts a smile on her face for a minute. Has anyone heard from Murphy? I texted her a week ago and haven’t heard anything. Love to all.

Hi All!
Think I might have overdone it a bit today. Made a nice dinner...Chicken with garlic parmesan rice. A bit on the rich side so will alter it the next time I make it.
Will chat tomorrow...heading to bed.
