Good morning. Rain is gone, 25, windy, going to just 37.
Robin, no they did not want the W2's, as they wanted current pay, since the W2's don't show any recent raises. I had to print out the pay stubs, as that is all online. All of this year's stubs, and a couple from December. Is your DH going home today?
Marsha, thanks, I am going to try the room drawing thing today, hopefully. I am happy for you that the trip is back on the table. I have not heard of the Road Scholar Trip, sorry, no help there.
Pinky, yikes, your morning yesterday sounded horrible, weather wise. I am happy I do not have to go anywhere today, as it sounds windy out there, and chilly. I simply hate dusting. Well vacuuming too, lol!!! But I am picky about the bathrooms being clean. I have split feelings on giving up the extra bathroom when I move, as I do not need 2, being alone, but it sure is nice to have. The Govenor probably has a standard list of retired government workers that would get flowers for the funerals. Still a very nice touch.
Anngie, we do not get paper check stubs. It is all online, on the school systems website. I had to print them all off and run them over. If I get the apartment, I do not need it till officially June 1st, as I have to give a 60 day notice here. (June 1st is also the date the new lease would go into effect, with that $100 a month extra added to the rent.) But I want to see if they can prorate it, and I move in on Memorial Day weekend. Or some such day around that time. I want to come back here after everything is out, and vacuum, and give everything a final once over. With your explanation of how you make the potatoes in the crock, I have a question: I have done that, for holidays, and it seems like they get watery sitting in the crock after a few hours. You don't have that problem? What I would like to do is making the twice baked potatoes, then put them in the crock to keep warm, since I know DD's oven will be in use, right up to dinnertime. Thanks for your wisdom on this!
Gareth, we can see snow flurries today, so that will be a bit depressing for us. This sure has been a whiplash 2024 so far, when it comes to the weather, hasn't it? I did not share my thoughts about whether you should have gone to eat with DF or not. All I can say is I am on the fence about that, go or stay home? I don't know what I would do, sorry I am so wishy washy. Since this apartment complex is federally funded, there are a million hoops to jump through. I am glad this all happened while I am off of work. I figure I want it bad enough, so it is worth it. I too have always been asked if a student can be present for an exam, and I don't mind usually, depending on what is involved in the exam.
Carol, about the no and that being a sentence, that is why I love that so much. When you give an excuse or reason, people seem to jump on that for a way around it. Like the saying goes: JUST SAY NO! Yes, I am pretty sure I saw floor plans on the apartment website, so if my pea brain can figure out Marsha's suggestion, I am going to try it. I do know I have way too much furniture in this living room to go over there. I never sit on the sofa, it is there for company, so useless to me, since there is a community room there. I would prefer just the 3 chairs I have. I also have a chair in each of the bedrooms here, and that hurts that I cannot take those too.
Isn't that horrible about that bridge being taken down by that ship? My goodness, that will affect the whole country for years!! And now all the bridges here are being put under scrutiny.
And the bad news here is Trump is supposedly coming to GB Tuesday. (Our Primary voting day) I hate those politicians coming here, then we have to pay the price of their protection.
Did my taxes yesterday and was pleased that I am getting a few dollars back this time, compared to last year, was just a break-even year.

Good for you on the tax refund Karen. As far as the W-2 goes, you should still make sure that they know, unless you know for sure that you are nowhere near the income limit, that you do not earn that amount 52 weeks a year. I think, from what you said in the past, you don't get paid for this week either. Although I didn't do may of these type of loans, NY has a mortgage program that has a set income limit. The only thing it worked on at the time, because even then prices and taxes were too high to make it work, was co-op apartments. We have more of those around here than condos, so I am used to figuring income, and giving people more when they needed it, trying to make the numbers work when they didn't. I guess with that apartment you won't have any of the holidays at your place any more, or can you use a community room? Not sure how that would really work out.
DH is still in the hospital. The antibiotic was not good enough to make things improve the way they wanted. DH is feeling much better, but the CT scan showed that there is an abscess that got bigger, so they will put him on a stronger broad spectrum antibiotic. The crazy thing was that rather than someone coming up right away to tell him the results, it showed up on his "Follow my Health" app, that he could read through. I was there, and boy did he blow his top. He waited for the shift change at 7 pm (something about that to be explained later), and demanded to see an actual doctor who knew his case. He said that their communication was terrible, and all the time he was there he hadn't spoken to a doctor for more than a total of 10 minutes. He has been in communication with DDIL's father, who is really just confirming what is going on, but that is not the same. The chief resident came and explained what is going on. They may end up trying to put a drain in the abscess, but it sounded like the location will not make that easy, and also, send him home with a port that he can give himself the antibiotics.
Marsha, my mother went on a number of Elderhostel trips, and that company became Road Scholar. I get their booklet in the mail sometimes. If it is the same as when she went, most of the people are older, so just keep that in mind. It is different than going on your own because they have people that are like guides and educators to give lectures.

Only 5 degrees and going to a high of 27 for the day-----OMG it wasn't hardly this cold in January. The sky is bright blue however so that is good and still a bit breezy but nothing like the wind has been the last couple of days.
Marsha---I have not heard of Road Scholars but of course I had to look it up and it is interesting. Hopefully the 3 of you can find something you are all happy with.
Karen----Did I miss something----no school today?? I had meant to mention the Baltimore bridge collapse yesterday and yes it is terrible and it does sound like it will affect shipping for a long time. Sad for those who lost their lives or presumed to have as they are missing. Great news on your tax refund.
Robin---How frustrating for your DH especially since he really does feel better, but of course that is probably because of the antibiotic working on the infection. I think I would have blown my top also. What happened to the day when the doctors and nurses worked together. Sorry that this is getting so long and drug out for you both.
DH went to a John Deere school down at Spencer Iowa for today and actually left late yesterday afternoon so he wouldn't have to get up and drive so early. I started a huge project of cleaning out files in our house office and redoing a lot with putting statements from our financial companies we have invested with into 3 ring binders. Didn't expect it to be such a big project but it will be nice and a lot more organized when done. I have a closet with shelves in my office and was not really filing them well and it was a mess. What was I thinking starting that when I need to get ready for Easter. Oh well, it is just our kids and their families and DMIL coming so with all the kids I probably won't clean that much anyways until after----LOL!!
Well I must get back to this closet----I thought it was a good time to tackle it when I didn't have interruptions.

Robin - I think I'm ok with going on a Road Scholar trip with older folks. I'd be with my 2 friends so we'd have each other. I did not hear from either of them last night which surprised me, I thought they would look at what I sent and text me their thoughts. I guess I can assume they aren't interested. Sorry dh is not improving as we would all like. Hopefully the better antibiotics will make a difference. I thought the docs had to see their patients daily, at the very least the hospitalist should be in.
Pinky - your project of cleaning out files is what I should be doing at work today. I'm so caught up I can't find "work" to do and Boss is still home recovering from surgery so I'm at loose ends and trying to avoid cleaning!
I talked to dh last night about our summer vacation plans. We were talking about going to Mackinac Island so I did a little research into hotels and what to do on the island. DH has never been there. It's a lot of walking so I explained to dh what we could do and we could probably do it all in one day but is he up to all that walking and he would need to dedicate now to getting back in shape. He has a habit of deciding he'll walk every day, being proud of himself for making a mile at a casual stroll, that lasts a few weeks then it's back on in the chair. Then I presented the idea of a New England cruise where we could relax or do stuff whatever so he is considering that. Now I'm thinking maybe one of those Road Scholars trips would work, but I'm not sure we could find one that we both want to do.

Karen, I’m at a loss as to why your potatoes were watery. Were they mashed or whipped? Sometimes if potatoes are whipped with milk and/or butter they can get a little “sloppy” and putting them in a crockpot won’t change that. I mash mine real well with a little milk and only use my hand-held mixer for a minute or two. They stay that consistency in the crockpot. I’ve used various types of potatoes too - Idaho white, Yukon Gold, etc. I’m so glad your paperwork is all in order - and now it’s time to hurry up and wait! Perfect timing to her a little money back from taxes!
Marsha, I was wondering if Boss is back yet. Maybe he’ll be out the rest of the week. Good idea to give DH (or any husband!) two choices for summer vacation! Good thinking! I’m assuming you’re good with either choice, or maybe he’ll leave it up to you in the end. Hopefully you’ll hear from girls tonight.
Pinky, what on your menu for Easter dinner? Does everyone bring a dish or dessert? My guess is you’ll have a full house!
Robin, OMG what an experience this has been - one thing after another. I’m sure DH wishes he was home, for sure. I’m glad he demanded to see a doctor and spoke to the chief resident no less. Could it be the abscess causing the pain? I suppose the antibiotics he was taking kept it at bay and therefore he was feeling better, but the infection really wasn’t going away.
Gareth, I agree the friend is being insensitive about her invites, but I still would go - I’d probably say “great, I’ll see in 30 (or 40) minutes!” That way you’re not overly rushed, you get to see a friend, and if she can’t do it, then it’ll be another time.

Only 22Âş when I got up. At least the sun was shining so it looks nice though only getting to 41Âş today. We're warming up again. 50's tomorrow and 60's Fri. It always amazes me no matter the weather I see the neighbor lady out walking with her walker. I'd like to know why or how long she's had to use a walker since she looks to be in her 40's or 50's. I've told her when I've met her out walking how I admire her dedication. I walk every day too but not outdoors in the weather conditions she does.
Karen, I assume you're on spring break. Here it was last week. Is one of your DDs taking DH's recliner or will you be keeping it?
Robin, I'm sure your DH is getting antsy to get home especially for as long as he's been there.
Pinky, good job to get done. Spencer is where my DSIS lived for several years on a farm.
Marsha, I haven't heard of Road Scholar Trips either. What helped motivate DH to walk and keeps him motivated is when I got him a Fitbit. I prefer my Apple watch though I started out with a Fitbit.

Gareth - *sigh* DH has a fitbit, in fact he has a better one than me. I think he has momentum issues since he has nowhere he has to be and nothing he has to do. He spends too much time in front of the tv watching the news and getting angry. But right now he's supposed to be cleaning up the basement and getting that back in order. Progress is much slower than I think it should be.

Robin, good for your DH demanding to talk to a doctor. That is just ridiculous not talking to a patient about what is going on. I hope he gets to go home soon.
I found out something new today. I had a return for Land's End. I had to download some form and then took it to UPS and they'll take care of it. There is a charge but they'll put it on my account because I don't want a refund. I'm having a credit put on my account. Anyway, it was surprisingly easy.
Something is going on with DS I haven't mentioned earlier. We were talking to him and DDIL about my sisters trip and how we were talking about planning a whole family reunion with husbands and sons. DS started going off about why would he want to be around those people, didn't have interest in them, etc. I was (don't use this word very much) flabbergasted. I was so shocked I don't really remember what all he was saying. DH was trying to smooth things over, but we decided to just end the call. He hasn't seen a couple of my nephews in years and BIL in even more years so I really don't know what his issue is. He did text us days later he was to see a psychologist which he has before and seems like a good idea. I was reminded of this when Marsha said she calls DS "Prince Harry."
Karen, it's nice all your paystubs, etc. are on-line. I would probably be rushing around trying to find all that in my files. I recently found and shredded a lot of old stuff. I probably should straighten up what is left.

DH is home! He is going to take 2 oral antibiotics, but he will most likely have surgery in 4-6 weeks. Not that I am so sure I want him home, but whatever. Now to plan what to make for dinner.
Carol, I can't remember if you were the other one who had fertility issues, or not, but one thing I can say about DS, is that going through what he and DDIL are going through is so difficult and anxiety producing, and often causes a lot of issues within the couple, that it can be a lot, and maybe that is what has something to do with how he reacted. It is so hard dealing with other people that you sometimes prefer just to not deal with them, because you are either laying yourself bare, or you are covering up and trying to smile through the questions, because there will be them. If they decided to adopt, there is a lot of stress that goes along with that too.
Marsha, glad that you are thinking of some options and places to go with DH. I know that I keep thinking about what we can do, but I know DH would be more limited with walking too. There is walking on a cruise ship, so, as a tip, try to get a cabin mid-ship, if you do that, but it's like the way you walk when you are in Costco, which I know he goes to, or at Home Depot. I sometimes joke that my DH's biggest walking expeditions are when he is in Home Depot.
With my DH and walking, even though he says no, I am wondering if possibly any of his issues recently that he has said sciatica and his hip hurting, really have to do with an inflammation in his colon. He has some kind of abscess, and you know how it is if you have a tooth abscess, it's like it hurts all over.
