Good morning. 25, clear, going to 42.
Robin, I am so glad to see your DH is home! What a long haul in the hospital that turned out to be, and totally unexpected for him. Sorry he will face surgery soon, but if it is for the better, then it is a good thing.
Pinky, I was looking back on some of the conversations I had in January between my DD's in PM, and we had some wicked cold days, and I remember not having recess for quite a few days, due to the bitter temps, so I sure wouldn't want to be you, with what you said about how cold it is by you right now!!! This week is our school system spring break. When I mentioned it on here, that I was looking forward to it, you were very busy with your grands, so you weren't here much. So you are on vacation, with your DH gone!!! How fun!!! I hope you take some time off after working with the closet filing, to have a glass of wine, or even 2!!!
Marsha, how fun, planning a vacation with your DH!! Get the heck out of town!!! Would he be able to fly to your destination?
Anngie, yeah, that time with the crock potatoes was very disappointing. With what you are saying, I think I know how to hopefully avoid it this time, because that is what I am going to make. It had to have been maybe too much milk. Lol, that money from our precious government will go towards the moving expense.
Gareth, the big thing at this time of the year is getting that sun, since it is so much warmer, than the winter sun. With you bringing up the neighbor, that reminded me of the couple in your neighborhood that would go to their car every day. Do they still do that? Yes, we have spring break this week. I guess nobody here noticed how much I was whining during the last couple weeks leading up to it, how much we were looking forward to the break, lol!!! Keeping DH recliner, it is too expensive to give away, and hardly used.
Carol, I am sorry your DS is going through something, but so good that he is getting help. Are you going to just back off on that idea of the family vacation for now? Too bad, too, as it does sound like a great idea. Yup! I remember all those years of working and accumulating all those check stubs, for no good reason!! I love how so much is just online.
At 4:45 pm yesterday I got an email from the apartment office stating they had submitted the application and all the paperwork and was notified they needed my SS letter for this year's income. Oh, for Pete's sake!!! So, I sent them over the 2-page letter, with a follow up e that if it was not readable, please let me know and I would run a copy over this morning. An hour later I got a reply that he submitted what he got from me, so hopefully it works. EVERYDAY there is something wrong!!! I am doing some running this morning, so I will take the letter with me, just in case!! Speaking of running, I am actually excited, as I decided I am running to Kohl's to see what I can find for an outfit for Sunday. I want something new.

Karen, with them asking for that SS Award letter, because it is a government funded program, they want to make sure you fit, and want to use the true amount. Even if you showed them a bank statement with Medicare premiums deducted, they don't know whether that is all that is deducted, and they will use your gross amount. I did remember you were off this week, so knew that the running things over to the office was not as big a deal as if you had to do it after work.
I do have to cook slightly differently for DH, but it's not too bad. Yesterday I made a pork tenderloin for dinner. Cooked vegetables are OK, but I might have normally made some kind of couscous or rice packaged mix as a side, but they all had too much fiber. I made some roasted potatoes, but I had to peel them, which normally I wouldn't do.
I had decided we didn't need to close the office tomorrow for Good Friday, I would just let the secretary, who is a very observant Catholic, take off. DH said that we always close for Good Friday, so we should close. So, I get a free day off, long weekend. We have plans to go to dinner with friends. Funny thing is, both of them have had diverticulitis for years, so they can give us some pointers. They are the ones who make us all not use things with nuts when we do our group dinners.
I finished The Secret Life of Sunflowers. It's a dual time frame book, with the late 1800's being about Vincent Van Gogh, his brother and sister-in-law. Very interesting really, as that is historical fiction.

It is 18 degrees now and going up to 30 so we are slowly warming up here. In the upper 30's thru Easter sunday and then inching up into the 40's and 50's by this time next week. Snow is in the forecast for Sunday and Monday----I don't think it will be much, it had better not be.
Marsha----that is exciting to be thinking of a vacation for you and DH.
Gareth----I forgot to mention that your friend who invited you to breakfast----wow that was really short notice. When I commented I would have ditched my breakfast and went I didn't realized it was quite that short of notice. I thought she was on her way so you could relatively make it even if she would have had to wait a bit. That is ridiculous to all ready be driving up to the cafe and think you could make it-----I liked whoever said (maybe carol or Anngie) that you would be there in about half an hour and please wait for you. Maybe then she would get the idea of calling a little ahead of time.
Anngie---I think I would like to try mashed potatoes on warm in the crock pot. Not for Easter this year but maybe next Thanksgiving. Thanks for the tips!
Carol----Sorry about your DS. It sounds like he is on top of things with knowing he needed help to get through this rough patch. Prayers to all of you that all he bounces back and is his old self quickly.
Karen---I hope all the paperwork is finally finished and in the right hands and you will soon hear word from the apartment people. Sorry I didn't realize about your school's spring break----hope you have had a good week. And yes I did have a glass of wine---LOL!!!
Robin---Good to hear your DH is home. I am sure you are having to think so much more about foods he can have but you probably have most of it figured out already. It will be nice to compare notes with the friends----they probably have some thoughts that when you are new have never thought of or wondered about it. Good luck!
I need to run a few errands today----groceries and prizes for Easter Bingo for the DGC. I think it will be too muddy and messy to have an Easter Egg Hunt outside so we will do that instead. If they win they can pick prizes---it will just be candies or money hidden in plastic eggs and a few bigger prizes that they can see that I need to get. It will be a busy weekend with celebrating Easter Sunday and having DGS's 15th birthday party on Friday night. He wants his party on the farm and DD and DSIL are bringing all the food for that but it will crazy around here.

Carol – I somehow missed your post yesterday about ds so I just went back and found it. I’m so sorry that he went off on you like that but it is such a good thing that he recognizes that this isn’t right and is getting help, and especially that he told you that he is getting help. I hope he can work all that out.
Karen – it’s ridiculous that the apartment couldn’t have gone through your paperwork and made one phone call to tell you what they still needed. When will you hear now that they have everything they need?
Robin – I’m glad dh is finally home. Is he well enough to go to work or is he supposed to take it easy at home for a while?
Boss is in this morning for a meeting. He said he’ll stay a few hours – my guess is he’ll ask one of us for a ride home at lunch and that will be it. I don’t know if he’ll come in tomorrow. They are not religious so working Good Friday has never been an issue for him and he is bored at home but it's quiet here and there isn't really a need for him to be here.
I finished the Will Trent I had on audio and started another Karin Slaughter but I think I’ll look for something else because this book is about one of the characters in the Will Trent series and I might need a bit of a break to avoid getting confused, plus I don’t like the reader. I went to the gym this morning. DD will be home this weekend. She has a haircut on Saturday so she’ll probably just go straight there and then come to us, back to Madison on Sunday. Home basically long enough to have dinner with us but that’s ok. Our stylist is having a baby soon so I suggested to dd that if she wants a cut before she goes off on maternity leave she should schedule it so that’s why she’ll be home

Thanks everyone for your comments. DDIL is having a hysterectomy in April. They have seemed to come to terms with it. She is in great pain and even went to the ER because they thought maybe it was her appendix. She is off work until after her surgery. She can't drive because of the way the pain meds affect her so she decided to take medical leave from work. Karen, that's why I asked you about Bob driving while taking pain meds. Anyway this probably had something with the way DS went off on me. Let me just say his and DDIL's fertility problems never came up when I was with my sisters and nieces. No one even asked about it. Also, my niece that couldn't come is married and never had kids and I've never heard anyone talk about it. Yes, I had endometriosis and I had to have surgery. I don't remember anyone asking us if we were going to have kids, etc. One time DH overheard my sister asking my mom and she told her it wasn't anyone's business except ours and if we wanted to discuss it, we should be the one to bring it up. We are glad DS is talking to someone.
The all family reunion isn't really planned yet. It is still in the talking stage. We are so spread out and with 2 of the kids still in school, it is hard to plan a time. I think the odds are slim that we can find a time everyone can come. Not everyone has been able to come to weddings and some funerals. I think the last time we were all together was at my parent's funerals and that was 23 and 22 years ago.
Robin, so glad to hear your DH is finally home.
Karen, this is taking a long time, isn't it? I guess that is how the government works.
It has been cooler since Tuesday but is supposed to warm up this weekend. It is a really pretty day.

Oh my, Karen, what next, right! Hopefully this is the last piece and they will still let you know tomorrow - and not put it off another couple of days. It’s good that you can find a place for DH’s recliner. There could be a day when you might want to use it and it’s one of the better ones out there. Did you find anything at Kohl’s?
Gareth, I meant to tell you I like your tulips too - some semblance of spring anyway. No sign of spring looking out my windows. How has DH been?
Carol, I’m sorry DS hasn’t been himself. Maybe it centers around DDIL’s hysterectomy and the years of trying to conceive. And even though your family respects each other’s privacy, he’s just waiting to be asked those dreaded questions. It’s so hard to see them hurting and there’s nothing you can say or do to change things. Hopefully one day they’ll be talking to you about adoption or surrogacy.
Robin, glad to see DH is home. It’s only been a day and a half, but how is he dealing with these food changes so far? Nice timing going out to dinner with your friends. I would think they would be very helpful with some good pointers. And it could also help that DH is hearing it from others. Funny that DH’s walking expeditions are at Home Depot! For my DH it’s Home Depot and Lowe’s!
Pinky, you brought back memories of putting money in dozens and dozens of those plastic Easter eggs and hiding them all over for DSs to find! We had as much fun as they did. That and dressing them in little suits for church.
Marsha, happy that you’ll be seeing DD even if it’s a short visit.

I for got to ask, has anyone ever read Anne of Green Gables? There’s a series on Netflix called Anne With an E taken from the book. I’ve only watched a little of it and it’s good. I’ve read many recommendations for it (the series).

Carol, sorry that DDIL will need a hysterectomy now, that makes matters for them even more difficult psychologically. Seeing as this was just something that came up since DH was in the hospital, when I had my hysterectomy I was at the hospital for less than 12 hours from the time I checked in, until I was discharged. They did it laparoscipaly and roboticaly, but it was the stupidest thing for them to do. I was in terrible pain the first night, and should have been on some kind of IV pain killer, but that is not what happened. I hope that is not what they are going to recommend for her. She may have to have more extensive surgery for it. I know not everyone asks, but I am sure there were many people who remarked about it to us. Our DS1 wasn't born until we were married 11 years. Maybe people are more considerate now. By the way, don't get me started about how the government works. We are getting tortured between dealing with the courts and Medicaid.
Marsha, DH can work from home. He was on the phone most of the morning, and was drafting some documents, which is what he would do if he were in the office. Nice that you get to see DD.
Karen, I hope someone is going to be able to be comfortable in DH's recliner. Maybe you can work out getting some kind of cushion or pillow so you will be comfortable in it.
We have had rain all day today, but it is 49 degrees.
Pinky, glad you worked out something to do for the grands for Easter, and that sounds like fun. Sorry your weather isn't great, and it is really dragging out the winter. How many calves are you up to? As far as talking to our friends, I think that they really go a little overboard with what they don't eat, but definitely it will be helpful, we will just take everything they say with a grain of salt.

Anngie, we were posting at the same time. The food thing so far has not been a big deal, but this morning I stopped to get bagels. He always ate either poppy seed or everything bagels. I got him plain regular and plain egg, but also decided to try a garlic and an onion, in case he wanted something different, because those should be good. Now, instead of look at labels for calories and fat, I am looking at fiber. I had bought a danish strip that was in the freezer that I took out, and it does have 0 fiber, so he will be happy with that. There is a limit he can have during each day, so just because it only has 1 or 2 grams in a serving, depending on the serving size, he has to be aware.

Finally some time to get on here. I'm not sure where this day has went. I went to Kohl's and the CU this morning. Kohl's had 30% off. Looked around and only got a package of washcloths and a rug for the bathroom. Got gas in the car. Gas has been going up here like I'm sure everywhere else. $3.94 a gal and going to get even higher.
Karen, was your Kohl's busy? I expected ours to be busy with Easter but it wasn't. They did have the most cashiers I'd seen in awhile so maybe they had expected to be busy too. I haven't seen the neighbors this winter sitting in their vehicle like they were last winter.
Robin, glad to hear DH is finally home. He must be feeling pretty good to want to go out already to dinner with friends.
Anngie,I haven't read Anne of Green Gables. DH is doing fine. Thanks for asking. He had a good report yesterday from his six month cardio dr appt. Hoping he gets a good report too in May with the cancer dr.
Carol, sorry about DS. It has to be a stressful time for both him and DDIL
Marsha, any decisions yet on either your girls trip or vacation?
Pinky, brrr...winter is hanging on there. Our Spring is coming back again I hope to stay this time. 50's and 60's here again in the forecast.

Anngie - I haven't read Anne.... but I did watch the Netflix series and it was good. There was a series done on those books years ago also which I remember watching some episodes.
Gareth - No news on either of my trips. I asked dh if he has watched the videos I sent him about the cruise and he hadn't but said he will watch them today. I'm taking the fact that he hadn't watched them yet as a sign he is not interested. And nothing from my friends, but we have a call scheduled for this weekend. I'm supposed to be researching Puerto Rico so I guess I should start working on that.
We are watching the 3 Body Problem on Netflix. It's very good but it's sci fi. Has anyone read The Ocean At The End of The Lane by Neil Gaiman? I downloaded the audio and started it at lunch. Hasn't grabbed me yet.

Robin, are there two books with similar titles The Life of Sunflowers and also The Secret Life of Sunflowers?

Anngie, the book that I read was by Marta Molnar. I couldn't find another book with the other title, but maybe the author will help. I thought the cover was rather ugly. Funny thing that I am reading on a Kindle, but when I see a cover, and I don't like it, I wonder whether I am going to like the book.
Marsha, I like Puerto Rico. You can take a tour of the rainforest, which is nice, and you will get a nice hike in. One year coming off a cruise there we took our own tour, and picked the guy who had a sign, Tour of San Juan, No Shopping. We did a great rain forest hike with him, then also saw the Capital, which not everyone goes into, and that was very interesting. You can walk around Old San Juan. There are casinos there, but I don't particularly remember shows. We went once years ago, before we had kids, and have been a number of times on cruises, including one year when we flew down the day before and stayed overnight. We stayed the first time at the Caribe Hilton, which I know has been renovated since we were there, but it is right on the beach, and not far from Old San Juan or the Condado area. I forgot we went another time with my whole family when my kids were young. We stayed at a resort that was far from San Juan, in Dorado. The thing is if you go for a long weekend, you don't want to be somewhere that takes a longer time to get to from the airport.
DH told me earlier that he was having trouble finding a surgeon. I have no idea what he was looking for, but I went on one of my Facebook groups, and sure enough there were plenty of people who asked for surgeon recommendations for what he needs, and there were a lot of recommendations for the same doctor, which I had found the other day so I have no idea why he didn't. He put in a request on his website, so hopefully they will get back to him.
