Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

SHAPING UP FOR SPRING! February 11 - March 31
Spring is coming!
Supportive Friends Progress not Perfection Renewal of Being Inspiration New Habits Great Success!
This can be your Spring! This can be your success! No more rationalizing and making excuses.
This challenge isn't just about being alcohol free though it is the focus of the board. It is about finding and giving encouragement, getting healthy, loving ourselves, and finding what works and what doesn't. This is NOT about making ourselves feel badly about the unhealthy choices, it is about celebrating the healthy ones. So let's go for it!
As always, the rules aren't complicated. Simply no alcohol and staying on your food plan. If you get off track, don't give up....don't throw away the day, the night, the week. We are working on progress not perfection.
You may have alcohol issues that you cannot manage on your own and our group is here to support you and encourage you to get the help you might need. You may have alcohol issues that you can control but have to exert the motivation and our group is here to support you.
Spring clean your cupboard early! If you have junk food, tempting alcohol, or trigger foods in your kitchen, you are setting yourself up for failure. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is always going to happen. Don't make it easier for yourself to give in to it. Assess your kitchen, ask if this helps or hinders me. DO NOT have sentimental attachment to food or alcohol. The stuff will always be there, it does not magically disappeared but your health can be compromised! This is your life! Make it the best!
REMEMBER…. 1. Work the Plan and the Plan works! Think of your new eating plan as a lifestyle change -- one that will have ups and downs, with good days and (very few) bad.
2. Don't deprive yourself. A food plan should be about SATISFACTION. Find foods you LOVE that will help you meet your goal.
3. Drink lots of water. Water is good for you.
4. Listen to your body. It knows things. Pay close attention to your body cues.
5. Live one day (or even one MEAL) at a time. Don't be discouraged and beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. Just get back on with lots of helping hands.
6. Get exercise with activities you enjoy. If you don't like what you are doing, then you won't stick with it.
7. Keep track of what you eat. Write it down. You WILL 100% without a doubt make better choices if you hold yourself accountable for them.

The sprinkler guy came to do a spring checkup, then DH & I took the golf cart to the nature trail to walk. It's getting more green outside every day. When we got back I walked around outside to check progress. The 3rd rhubarb has a shoot now and same with the 3rd peony. Before we went to walk I did some repair of my "Spring" sign, the Velcro needed reglueing. I've been trying to get in more protein and had bought some Premier Protein at Walmart. I mixed it with some almond milk in the Magic Bullet. It has a funny aftertaste, so I'll probably finish the jar and try something else next. It is only 1 point per scoop. I had some couch time in the afternoon. We had grilled chicken, mushrooms, & pineapple, mac and cheese, and broccoli for dinner. After dinner I worked more on the Santa which is a patchwork design and fun to stitch so far. I was in bed by 11:30.
It's sunny today, in the upper 40's, heading to the 60's. I think today will be the Home Depot day since we didn't make it yesterday. I texted with my brother and sister about the eclipse. DB plans on watching from home, my sister said they are having an event at the Indy 500 track, which would be fun, but probably a nightmare for parking. We'll probably end up watching from the farm with my brother, although it is a bit too far north of the path.
Murphy- Glad you could post and things are a bit brother with your brother having home health, a hospital bed, and being able to sleep some. Sorry about the scare with Scout, hope he continues to do better. Hope all goes well with the refi. WTG working on your closet. Glad they don't need you at night right now.
Cathy- Glad the yeast bread party went well. Hope you are feeling rested and have fun at cards today.
Carole- Glad you are enjoying your key lime pie.
Cindy- WTG dropping off donations, going to Costco. Milk chocolate pistachios! Sorry the surgeon confirmed your nerve damage diagnosis, hope it gets better with time. Yay for finding the Sour Patch bunnies. My knees hurt off and on, especially going up stairs. Voltaren gel seems to help. Yay for a stretch of nice weather, hope the yard work goes well.

M-W Word of the Day
auxiliary adjective | awg-ZILL-yuh-ree What It Means In general use, auxiliary describes someone or something available to provide extra help, power, etc., when it is needed. In linguistics, an auxiliary verb (also called a “helping verb”) is used with another verb to do things like show a verb’s tense or form a question. In nautical contexts, auxiliary can describe a sailboat equipped with a supplementary inboard engine, or a vessel that provides supplementary assistance to other ships. // The auditorium has an auxiliary cooling system used only on particularly sweltering days. // “Are” in “They are arriving soon” is an auxiliary verb.

Here at my brother's now. He looks so good! Up and dressed and they even met some of his guitar buddies at Hardee's for breakfast! I can only assume that the change in meds has kicked in! I'll still plan to stay as long as they need me today. Will try to check in later. Murphy

Dh had a burger and I had fish and fries. My fish was a bit too greasy, at least I'm not used to that much fried food anymore, I ate a bit of the crunchy outside but picked out the white fish in the middle and it was good. DH shared my fries and had ordered fruit as his side, which I ate most of. So when I think I had way too much, I think it will actually be fine, and it was one day. Just in a munchy mood. Had a chocolate lindt ball at knitting and then just kept looking but stayed out of work junk. I guess tomorrow will have to be my attempt at a no sugar day if I want to try to make my goal for the week. Enjoyed knitting, but two of my friends were missing, along with Peggy. I'm wondering if she is having any treatments for the cancer. I will have to send a message. We just put on the first of the basketball games for the evening. I'm pretty sure I won't make it until the Illinois Iowa state game and that's the one I would like to watch. When I was leaving work I thought it was Friday for a minute, boo, then remembered I'll be back tomorrow. Countdown is underway. I think we may go over to the storage place on Saturday and see if we can get the van out. We don't really have any Easter plans so will be hanging out at home. At least we have been getting some sun. Hope you all had a great day. Jan Amy Hope you get some good views of the eclipse from the farm, fingers crossed for clear skies. I wouldn't want to attempt the Indy grounds, just too crazy. Have you tried the Premier protein drinks? Or too spendy? I have been using the Fairlife Core vanilla in my coffee in the morning. Adds a little protein, and then some days a half of the chocolate version or quest bar. Post a pic of your new Santa. I need to put up my little gnomes on the FB so you can see. Cindy Yay for getting the errands done, and bringing your muscle with you. Hope the nerve issues work out, my leg still gets twinges but mostly still numb near the scar. Did the weather cooperate to get the soil down today? Chocolate pistachios sound yummy. I WON'T look for them at Costco, ha ha. Cathy Hope you had fun at cards and with friends today. Carole Can you buy a whole pie and bring it home on the plane I brought home a loaf of Sourdough from San Francisco last time! Will be interesting when you get home and can talk to Lex about the break up. Does she still live at your house? Sorry about the kitty, pets always get the shaft in the "divorce" Murphy So good to hear you DB was doing better today. Still sending all the good prayers for your family and puppy. Glad you could check in and yay for being AF. One less stress to think about. Waving hi to Liz and GG. See you in the morning.

Hi friends! I went to the turtle hospital today—it’s so sad. Most, if not all, that were in there are there because of fishing line entanglement, 2 had one flipper amputated. The day ended up beautiful. Tomorrow is supposed to be windy but nice. Have a great night!

Hi All!
Started off chilly but made it into the low seventies today. Did do a bit of gardening, helped DS a bit with his car, and just odds and ends.
Talked with my DSIL for over an hour. She is doing okay but it is difficult. She can vent to me, share what is going on because been there, done that. I understand her frustration dealing with the paper work that should be simple but insurance companies, banks, etc just make things more complicated. I sent her one of those pop up cards that become a bouquet of sunflowers. It made her happy and that is all I wanted. I need to find new and different lilies to add to my memory garden for my brother and nephew. Lots of lilies are coming back along with irises, canas, and roses. The hyacinths are blooming. The bamboo is going strong also. I did get some more bark down in areas that already have been supplement with soil. I started taking stuff off the back porch to put back in the garden. I had bought a cement "tree trunk" and set up the butterfly puddler. Need to get a bush that would attract butterflies. Need to get DS to lift the bird bath bowl and put it back in place. Birds were fed.
There was a posting on our town's board this morning about the white mourning dove. One person said the bird had a band on its leg so I guess it is being tracked. I hope it comes back so I can possibly look more closely to see if there is a band on it.
Amy, thanks for getting us started. I stayed up way too late and slept in a bit. I don't think I could do a big crowd thing for the eclipse so going to see what we can see from home. Glad your rhubarb and peonies are coming up. I use the Voltaren gel and am also using a nerve pain relief spray. Always looking for solutions.
Jan, hope you had a great time at knitting. I hope Peggy is doing okay and that she responds to your message. Watched a very discouraging Celtics loss. Nice to go out to dinner. I made Espagueti Verde con Pollo, in other words, green spaghetti with chicken. My spaghetti never seems that green though the sauce is. Not cooking again until Easter. Leftovers rule. Is the numbness bothersome?
Carole, have you ever made key lime pie? Enjoy the last of your vacation. I'm glad that there is a hospital to take care of the turtles. When we lived in Tequesta, FL , there was a turtle sanctuary and I was amazed at the work the volunteers accomplished.
Hi GG!
Murphy, glad to hear that your brother is doing better. Hope Scout is doing better. Hugs!
Cathy, hope you had a wonderful day with friends!
Hi Liz!
Need to work in my office or the catch all room but think if the weather is wonderful then I think outdoors is in my future. I need to spray some garden art work so that the finishes are protected as best they can be. Probably am going to stay up a bit too late tonight.
Hugs, Cindy
