Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

SHAPING UP FOR SPRING! February 11 - March 31
Spring is coming!
Supportive Friends Progress not Perfection Renewal of Being Inspiration New Habits Great Success!
This can be your Spring! This can be your success! No more rationalizing and making excuses.
This challenge isn't just about being alcohol free though it is the focus of the board. It is about finding and giving encouragement, getting healthy, loving ourselves, and finding what works and what doesn't. This is NOT about making ourselves feel badly about the unhealthy choices, it is about celebrating the healthy ones. So let's go for it!
As always, the rules aren't complicated. Simply no alcohol and staying on your food plan. If you get off track, don't give up....don't throw away the day, the night, the week. We are working on progress not perfection.
You may have alcohol issues that you cannot manage on your own and our group is here to support you and encourage you to get the help you might need. You may have alcohol issues that you can control but have to exert the motivation and our group is here to support you.
Spring clean your cupboard early! If you have junk food, tempting alcohol, or trigger foods in your kitchen, you are setting yourself up for failure. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is always going to happen. Don't make it easier for yourself to give in to it. Assess your kitchen, ask if this helps or hinders me. DO NOT have sentimental attachment to food or alcohol. The stuff will always be there, it does not magically disappeared but your health can be compromised! This is your life! Make it the best!
REMEMBER…. 1. Work the Plan and the Plan works! Think of your new eating plan as a lifestyle change -- one that will have ups and downs, with good days and (very few) bad.
2. Don't deprive yourself. A food plan should be about SATISFACTION. Find foods you LOVE that will help you meet your goal.
3. Drink lots of water. Water is good for you.
4. Listen to your body. It knows things. Pay close attention to your body cues.
5. Live one day (or even one MEAL) at a time. Don't be discouraged and beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. Just get back on with lots of helping hands.
6. Get exercise with activities you enjoy. If you don't like what you are doing, then you won't stick with it.
7. Keep track of what you eat. Write it down. You WILL 100% without a doubt make better choices if you hold yourself accountable for them.

Good morning all! DB had a great morning but by mid-day was tired and struggling with the high anxiety again. Still it was an improvement so I'm grateful for that. I stayed till late afternoon and then had a gathering with some friends from church. I was tired! I had planned a bunch of errands today but I'm thinking now that most of the places may be closed to observe Good Friday. So I'm switching with what I had planned for tomorrow. I have the sheets in the wash now so I'll wrestle those back on the bed later! LOL. Hope you all have a blessed day! Murphy

Guess I better get BOT today Going to do my no extra sugar day today after the free for all yesterday. Know what I'm packing for lunch, having egg burrito for breakfast. Lately I've been more searching around for treats when I come home than at work. DH still has cookies here, I have easter Whoppers, WHY? couldn't resist. I will stay busy today, have my tea in the evening, have a quest bar if I'm desperate, not counting that as sugar. Have chores to do this weekend and shopping. I also need to figure out a treat for myself, today is 90 days. I need a pedi, but waiting until closer to sandal time, I may just schedule a hair cut and color for a day after I'm done working and call that my treat. May also splurge and but the Hannah book about the Viet Nam nurses instead of waiting for it at the library. We'll go try to get the van out tomorrow. The only glitch could be if one of the boater or ? somehow got parked in the aisle where we need to pull out. Tom said some of the guys were already anxious to get their boats out because the lake and river are already open, didn't really ever freeze enough for much ice fishing this year. Guess we'll see what we find there when we open the shed. Guess I'm going to figure out what's for Easter when I get to the store today or tomorrow. Haven't heard if DS got their box but if it's early next week it's fine. Guess I better get off the couch and start moving. Looking forward to my days off. Enjoy your weekend and holiday all. Jan Murphy Good morning. Glad your DB at least had some good hours and the meds seemed to help some. Good for you getting right to the morning chores. I keep adding them to my list, but they just seem to keep changing places on the list instead of getting done How is Scout doing this morning? Was he maybe having a lot of anxiety because you had been gone so much? Was he usually with Tyrine? He just missed you. Hugs Cindy YOur yard sounds so pretty right now, everything popping up for spring. Do you mostly do Easter lily typ plants in the memory garden or also day lilies? Glad you can talk to DSIL and help her through some issues, even if from long distance, nice to have help and a sounding board. I can't wait for some low 70's or even mid 60's again. We had those few teaser days and now it just feels like Hurry Up already. I watched some BB last night, seems at this point the favorites (U Conn) etc, always get the calls or there sure are a lot of fouls etc that I just don't get. I need to get out and fill the feeders again. Carole Would love to see the turtle rescue but understand that it's sad. We used to go to the Marine Mammal rescue in Sausalito to see the sea lions and whatever else showed up. Will you have Easter at home with your kids and Dad? Safe travels home. Amy What day will you leave for Indiana? I need to look up the path of the eclipse. If it was just a bit later we could have taken the camper and found a good spot for viewing. I am not looking forward to Pollen season. DH just bought some Voltaren to try on his elbow. It's the same stuff they prescribed when he went to the Dr's that time. Waving hi.

I was just saying to DH the day before yesterday that I had not heard from the Globus people about our trip or the Henry Meds people about a refill on my semaglutide. I must have manifested both b/c I had emails from both. The Globus people sent an itinerary and the Henry Meds folks sent a link to get a refill. I made an appointment to talk with the nurse practitioner about the reflux. After that DH and I drove to the lake to walk. It was breezy and a bit chilly but we were warm by the end. Lots of azaleas blooming and a brave soul out on the lake in a small fishing boat. Then we went to Home Depot for mulch. Apparently they've decided we are past the risk of frost b/c they had all the flowers and veggies out. So pretty! I did buy some candytuft, which is like white creeping phlox, for by the address sign. We then went to Walmart for a few things, including more creeping Jenny. I was tired by the time we got home, so lunch and couch time. I made some broccoli soup for dinner which we had with BLT's. I'm getting close to finishing the front of the first Santa. I watched the last episode of season 6 of The Crown. It felt like a series finale, but I suppose they could continue on. It ended with Charles and Camilla getting married, William & Kate dating, Harry getting ready to go into the military, and the Queen contemplating her death and planning her funeral. I went to bed before midnight, but had trouble falling asleep, so read until after 1.
It's another pretty, sunny day, around 40, but heading to the 70's. All the bird feeders are empty, or nearly so. I put out a hummingbird feeder a few days ago since folks have been posting about seeing them. I haven't spotted any yet, but the nectar level is going down in the feeder.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. So glad your brother had a good morning yesterday.
Jan- WTG steps 11/11, stretches, PU, tracking, AF, planning no sugar treats. Sorry some friends were missing from knitting. How do you like Will Trent? I haven't tried the Premiere Protein drinks. The next thing I try will probably be DH's Atkin's shakes, which are 3 points. GL with your no extra sugar day and AF day 90! Hope you can get your camper out. I think we're going to drive up to Indiana on Sunday the 7th for the eclipse so we can still have our Friday night/Saturday morning routine with Cory.
Carole- Yay for going to the turtle hospital. Enjoy the weather today. Key lime pie is pretty easy to make and most groceries carry the bottled juice.
Cindy- Yay for a bit of gardening, helping DS with his car, flowering plants coming back. Glad DSIL enjoyed your card, sorry dealing with insurance is so difficult. Hope you see the white bird again. The green spaghetti dish sounds yummy, DD probably wouldn't eat it.

M-W Word of the Day
flout verb | FLOUT What It Means To flout something, such as a law or rule, is to treat it with contemptuous disregard. A teenager flouting a curfew, for example, will not hide the fact that they are out past the time they are required to be home. // The court found that the company had continued to flout the law despite multiple warnings.

This is the Santa I'm working on. It has fabric yo-yo's for the beard and hat pom pom, but I think I'm just going to stitch the beard and maybe do a yarn pom pom for the hat.

Hi all.. So glad it's Friday and my work week is over. Long day and then of course challenged with all the goodies. Given a chocolate bunny and jelly beans from the candy store. Someone dropped off donuts, and then the girl scouts were giving away samples at the grocery store when i stopped in. I passed it all by! Yay me. Now to not go crazy tomorrow Dh brought home a berry tart, we still have cookies and I haven't made to Easter yet. We didn't even make any dinner, just too beat. We'll do our fish tacos tomorrow and I think we are going to get steaks tomorrow from the butcher to have on Sunday. Certainly, no one is going to starve around here. Tomorrow morning I want to go to a craft/plant sale in a greenhouse somewhere south of here. I'll have to figure out where it is, it showed up on my FB when a friend marked interested in going and I got the link. When I get home we'll go get the camper. No plans for this evening, just sat down on the couch, BB is on and I'll veg for a bit. Scout is sleeping here next to me nice and cozy. I know I should stay off the screens when I get home, my eyes feel so tired by afternoon from all the computer time each day. I'll work on my knitting a bit while I sit and then go up to read. Have a great evening all. Jan Amy Thanks for the pic of your Santa and the eclipse path. Glad you can still have the weekend time with Cory before going up to Indiana. I liked Will Trent but wish I could go back and start at the beginning with Season One. We don't have Hulu or a way to stream it back. I can watch all of season 2 on the current Youtube tv we have but my friend said there's a lot of info about the character that develops in the first season so you know what's going on. Glad both the travel agent and the Dr checked in and you will be set before your vacation. See you in the morning.

Hi All!
Was up early this morning and saw that Murphy had started the board. Thanks Murphy! I was up at 4 AM, had nightmares, a bit too realistic...not a fan of those. Gave up sleeping....played Sudoko.
Did more garage stuff, paperwork, laundry, just odds and ends. Also tackled my closet floor....stuff had kept mounting up. At least I can get into it without tripping. A lot of stuff needs to go but that is for another day. It was too windy to work in the garden, maybe tomorrow.
Murphy, glad that your brother is doing better and that the medication is working better. Hope Scout is doing better and is getting snuggling time with you. It was an interesting day to see what was closed today. DS got his car inspected, passed, then couldn't get it registered since the court house was closed.
Jan, hope getting out the van works out fine. I usually pick out lilies that just appeal to me, I'm in to the double ruffle ones now if I can find any this year. I always plant zinnias for my Mom. Not a fan of Easter lilies but if I find some on sale on Monday, they will be in my cart. We are having ham steaks and two different salads for Easter dinner. I'll probably supplement with something. What have you decided on? I think refs are throwing games on college level and NBA level. Hope you have fun at the crafts/plant sale.
Amy, love your Santa! I think we will have a good view of the eclipse and appreciate the info on the path. We have our glasses. Glad that the travel agent was in touch and that you were able to talk with the doctor. Vacation is coming up soon! The thought of the day fits me too well. I have a 3 attached pottery bowls that are crowded with what is this, better keep it. And of course there is the junk drawer! Planning on putting up the hummingbird feeders tomorrow. A few people have posted that they seemed some.
Carole, safe travels home! Did you look at any properties?
Cathy, hope you had a wonderful day!
Hi Liz, hope you are planning a wonderful family time for Easter.
GG, what are your plans for the weekend?
Tomorrow is suppose to be a lovely day with little wind. Hope to get out outside to prep areas for, fingers crossed, new plants!
Hope everyone had a wonderful day!
Hugs, Cindy
