Good morning. 26, clear, going to 48.
Robin, yes, I was glad I was off this week, so I was able to run over the paperwork they needed, for the application. Just a bit frustrated as it keeps holding everything up, with me being on the clock so to speak. What would those men do without us women? Can you imagine your DH trying to eat now, how he is supposed to, on his own? Glad you have the day off, as you have been doing a lot of running and just the extra stress of having DH in the hospital all adds to what you are dealing with. Yes, I will not give up the recliner. Bob seems to have taken to it, when he is here, so that makes me happy. He has even learned how to use the remote for it. A little bit of useless knowledge about Puerto Rico, my DH lived there for a little over a year, back when they were kids, and absolutely loved it. He always wanted to take me there, when we were older, but sadly we never got to go.
Pinky, I see that your snow you expect Sunday and Monday is to be rain Monday and Tuesday. Which I don't want as it means no recess, but we still need more moisture for the drought to be gone. My email has been quiet now since the other afternoon, so that is a good sign (I hope!!). I remember when we moved here, I told my DS that that would be the last move, until we had to go to the old folk's home. Now I am thinking that, for this upcoming move, wherever it is!! For the fact that I really did not do anything for this week off, I am surprised how fast it went. Isn't that the sweetest thing for your 15 yr old DGS wanting to have his BD party at the farm?? I love it!!! (Sorry about all the craziness though, of the weekend!!)
Marsha, I agree, about them going through all my paperwork, to see what was missing, but there are just too many cooks in that office, so errors are expected. To have 3 different people working in there is just stupid. I will call there today, around noon, to see what, if anything has been decided. Very nice for you to be able to see your DD at least a little, this weekend. And that weatherwise, there is no bad weather predicted. Will you work the whole day today, or go home early?
Carol, sorry your DDIL has to go through surgery, but obviously it is for the best. But so final. How is she taking it, mentally? It sounds like your DS is stronger than he thinks, since he seeked help for how he is feeling. Bob is such a large man, that I think it would take a lot of meds to affect his driving. He can drink so much more wine than me, and it does not affect him at all. Sometimes I forget he is so much bigger than me, and I cannot keep up to his drinking or eating. (The scale is showing me that, with the eating!!) As for how long it is taking to get approved, see what I wrote to Robin. And yes, it is the government after all, lol.
Anngie, yes, but if there is anything more required from them, I give up!!! I don't know what more they could want!!! Yes, I did find some things at Kohl's, I was determined not to leave empty handed. I sure do like that store!! For my DH to spend mindless time walking a store, it was Fleet Farm. That store is more geared to farmers as the name implies, and fishermen and hunters. Then HD, and Menards. But his idea of walking around those stores is not the kind of walking that gets the heart pumping, that would help his overall health.
Gareth, now that you mention it, Kohl's was just a tad busy, but nothing bad at all. I guess it helps having those self-check outs, but I had just enough that I wanted to go to a person checking me out, to make sure I did not goof up with any cash back or whatever % I could get off. There was a line at the dressing room, too bad they couldn't open up another one in the women's department. Pooh!!! I forgot to get gas!! I see on my gas buddy app; gas is $3.15 here. They did say on the local news we had gone down in price, whereas around the country, the price had gone up, but they warned it will go back up here, for the summer travel season. Wouldn't you love to know the rest of the story, as to why those neighbors were doing that, last winter, since they quit doing it? I see 60's for a few days coming up in the 10 forecasts, very exciting, lol!!!!
I got a very nice shirt that is like a dress shirt, that is pink, with the sleeves you can roll up or leave down, and 2 pairs of white jeans, which one pair I did not try on, and it is not the short size, which I tried on when I got home, and need to return, then got a pair of comfy shoes that are white, to go with the outfit. Also, a new summer nightgown, and of course socks; I seem to wear the heck out of socks. I wanted to go into Sephora to get another eyebrow pencil, (they have shades I can't find at any other stores), and of course forgot that.
I stopped at Hy Vee after, and got one of their big pot pies, and then invited Bob over for dinner. He said sure, as he likes pot pies, thinking it was one of those frozen ones from Banquet, so he was quite impressed with Hy Vee's pie. I am starting to get tired of him not wanting to take me out to dinner (EVER!!), who does that sound like??? Yes, he has mentioned a few times in chatting, things like he paid his bills now he is broke, things like that, but really?? You want to date someone but never except that first date, take them out to dinner or anything else??? Getting into Roger territory, when I would pay for all the times, we went out to eat, remember? I refuse to do that but having him here for dinners all the time is just about the same thing. Thoughts on that....or am I wrong? I know the guy is having and went through a very serious medical disease, but geez. Please tell me I am nitpicking!!!
Happy Easter to whoever will not be making it on here over the weekend, and Marsha, have a wonderful time with DD, for the little bit you will see her.

Karen, good that Bob likes that chair, but I don't think you are nitpicking about him not wanting to pay. I can understand, possibly, not wanting to go out to eat. The thing with restaurants is that sometimes the chairs are just not comfortable, and if he is a big man he might not be comfortable in a booth, so it is just more comfortable at your place. He could though offer to bring over take-out food. However, if he is saying that he can't get through the month on what he gets from SS, pension, or whatever, what's really going on. Have you talked to him about how you are moving to the other place because it is income restricted and you will save a lot on rent? As far as how careful they are to get the numbers right, which is really what is taking so long, reminded me about something we dealt with recently. We have a small affordable housing development right behind our office. I couple of years ago we wrote a will for a single mother who lived there. She called us a month or so ago because they were threatening to throw her out. Her son was still living with her, even though he is now working, so she did have to give in his pay stubs, but someone told her that she had a boyfriend living with her, so the management company told her they were going to throw her out or she had to show his paystubs. It turns out that she no longer has that boyfriend anyway, and he used to stay over 1 or 2 nights a week only, he was not living there. I don't think the people at the management office are government workers, but they probably are audited by the government, and have to fill out reports for them to prove that the tenants fit in guidelines. DS wrote a letter for her to the management company, and come to think of it we haven't heard from her since, so it must have worked. We do the work for her pro Bono.
I am happy with the extra day off, now let's see what I will do with it. Maybe go to Target. Can't decide if I should order online to pick up, or go into the store. If I order online, maybe I will stop somewhere else to. I think I am going to look for a Diverticulitis Facebook group, mainly to see about certain things food wise. I don't know if DH really has to avoid certain things only for a few weeks, or long term. Between now and surgery, or after surgery too. I really can't get into reading anything right now more than junky books, maybe because nothing good has come up. One I thought I might want to read, but then saw it was over 500 pages, and I don't want to get into a book that size that's about "An Arab, A Jew, and the Heart of the Middle East". It's called The Lemon Tree. I did come up for another one, River Sing Me Home, which is about some of the Caribbean Islands in the 1800's. I might start that. And, I do want to clean. I couldn't handle straightening for my cleaning people for Wednesday, when DH was still in the hospital, and the running was really getting to me, so I told her not to come.

Robin - thanks for the comments on Puerto Rico. I'll address the girls weekend below. Can't dh's doctor refer him to a surgeon? things must work very differently by you than by us.
Karen - we are open all day today. There is only one person who will leave early for Good Friday. I don't think anyone else here cares that much. I may leave early. Boss isn't coming in today but expects to be back to full time on Monday. He is hoping the PT unlocks his leg brace so he can bend his leg and then he'll be able to drive. Today I have a few things to do but once those are done I may just call it a day and leave, maybe 3:00 or so. I suspect no office people will be here after 3:30. Where did you see gas for $3.15? It is $3.34 at the stations near my office. I don't think you are nitpicking about Bob either. I think you should stop inviting him to dinner and see what happens.
Robin - be careful about getting medical information off the internet. It is my experience that you will see the worst possible experiences. You are much better off if you can get advice from your doctor or the nurses at the doctor's office. Does dh have a GI guy?
so update on my "travel plans". First the girls. I did a little extra research on how i would get to this place where PHX's cousin is doing the program on mosaics, and it turns out that it's at least 2 hours from San Francisco airport. There is a smaller airport close but it is still an hour from there. Now the problem is that I can't get the SFO early enough to get to the program before it starts so I would have to fly in a day early. Likewise, the flights out would either be very early morning flights or redeyes, so I'd need to stay overnight at the airport and fly out early the next day so that's 2 extra days and 2 extra hotel rooms. This program is Friday night - midday Sunday and it's really not worth it to me to add the extra time and expense for the travel. Likewise I looked at what it would take PHX to get to Puerto Rico and her travel time is something like 13+ hours and that doesn't make sense for a long weekend. So both those ideas seem bad to me. I am going to suggest Nashville or New Orleans. They are centrally located so it should be doable for all of us and I think it could be a lot of fun. Also PHX told RV how annoying her running commentary was so I think she'll keep her mouth shut even though she's been to both of those places already. I'm going to run these ideas by PHX before we talk on Sunday.
Now my travels with dh. After he had me research cruises and present a spreadsheet with durations and prices and dates and he was not convinced. I suggested the Road Scholar programs and showed him those on the website. He is objecting to the costs of these things and so I guess we will go to Mackinac Island. I sure hope he takes himself seriously and starts working on getting into shape before we get to a place which does not allow cars! I'm going to look into hotels. He pointed out to me that I was willing to spend all that money on a cruise so I should look at staying on the island even though it is expensive, so I think we will drive there and ferry over and check in to a hotel, spend the whole next day and part of the day after then ferry off and stay on the mainland overnight before driving home the next day.

Marsha, sorry you are the one who is doing all this work, so I really do hope one will work out. Nashville is the big music place, although I have not been. I have been to Memphis twice, and I really do like Memphis. Even not being an Elvis fan, visiting Graceland was great, and there is also a wonderful Civil Rights Museum, the Rock and Soul Museum, seeing the Peabody Ducks is a thing. The best fried chicken I have ever had also at a whole in the wall place. Not that I am pushing that or anything, haha. I also love New Orleans. The WWII Museum is one of the best museums I have ever seen. For some reason, which I should really say for some reason because for each one I know exactly why I was there, I have been there 5 times, plus the 1 time I took DS1 to see Tulane. It does get very hot in the summer though, so just a heads up on that. Cruises are really the best deal around, money wise. Seeing as DH spends a lot of time sitting around, maybe give him a project to find something else for the 2 of you to do.
I took for ever to get a Target order to go through online. They have a button to click to pay with Apple Pay, which I have my Amex card in that, but it turns out you can't really pay for store pick up with Apple Pay, so I wasted a lot of time with that.

Robin - Memphis. Good idea. I hadn't thought of that. I'll do some research. I wonder if RV has been to both Nashville and Memphis. She would have gone on her drive from florida to Arizona.I wish RV would go on a cruise! That is the easiest answer. DD gets her groceries from Target, online order and pick up in the parking lot. She uses my Target card and gets 5% off.

It is 33 degrees her but partly cloudy and windy.
One of you asked how calving was going and it is going well until about 7 this morning. A heifer gave birth to dead twin calves and my were they big----poor heifer. Last night was busy in the barn with 2 being born after supper last night and then 3 during the night and of course the twins that didn't live. I think we have about 30 now and with the cows starting now it will be busy. They are a little later than the heifers because we turn the bulls out later with them.
Carol----I am so sorry to hear about your DDIL's surgery, but I do hope she feels better after. Hopefully with time things will be fine-----I am sure this is a lot for everyone to process, especially for DS and DDIL.
Karen---I think too it is time for Bob to take you out again----even if it is somewhere like a fast food place or like like someone said he could pick up take out. What are your thoughts about going to his place should he ask. If you would be happy to do that you could politely tell him you would like to see his place. I do agree with Robin that with his size he is probably not comfortable in chairs or booths in restaurants.
Robin---I too wonder why DH's doctor doesn't recommend someone so that it easier for communication purposes. Will they take just the abscessed area out or quite a bit of his colon? After my sister had quite a chunk of her colon out she can eat anything.
Marsha---Sounds like you will be an expert travel guide once these trips are planned.
Hi Gareth and Anngie!
Gas is still $3.19 a gallon here.
I finished The Women and really loved it. I actually preferred the first part of it when she was in Vietnam the over the second part but it was all very good. I have The Berry Pickers downloaded to lissten now but it will probably be Monday before I start.
I really do need to get busy---I was going to make this quick. HAPPY EASTER!!!!!

Karen, still no self check outs at our Kohl's. Sounds like Bob is taking advantage of you never reciprocating. I agree with Marsha stop I'd stop inviting him. He can't expect you to always foot the bill. I'd tell him so.
Robin, I'd get advice from his Dr about any dietary restrictions. I'm surprised with his diverticulitis he hasn't been given any guidance before now.
Marsha, hope it comes together soon on both trips.
Just heard that DGD has strep AGAIN so evidently quitting her job at daycare didn't help. Youngest DHS just got promoted to Support Representative Consumer Lender full time at the CU after the short time he's been there. DS also told me that someone he works with had a brain aneurysm at work and died. So sad. He was only 34. Like DS said you just never know.

Pinky, I was the opposite about The Women. I hated all the blood and gore of the first part and liked the second part much better. I just finished The Little Liar which I liked better than The Women even though some parts were hard to hear about too.

Pinky, I agree about how you felt about The Women, I also liked the first part better, but overall it was a great book. So sorry about those calves. I can't even imagine what they must have felt like when that happened. I don't quite follow you on the other part, about the heifers vs. the other cows, but probably no more than you following what I have to say sometimes.
As far as the doctor for DH. He had a doctor assigned to him at the hospital. He has never had anything having to do with this before, so there was no reason for him to have a GI doctor. The doctor who had been doing his Colonoscopies for years retired, so he used a new person in the office for that, but they are not connected to the same hospital system. His regular doctor had a family emergency, and the nurse was just giving him names off a list. The issue with the doctor he saw at the hospital is that her office is in Queens, and parking is terrible. As it turns out, she is affiliated with the group that others recommended so highly. Also, in May she is moving back to Georgia. He is seeing her at their office here near us on Thursday. They did give him a list of foods to eat, and I should look at that, but they were really not clear enough about how long that should last. I am just as happy to get recommendations from other patients from this Facebook group. Many of them are the same ones who are on the restaurant group I am on, and I know their names. I always say that sometimes the doctor that your doctor recommends is the one he plays golf with, not necessarily the one who is the best. I think it's probably a little hard for some of you to really know what it is like around here just because we are talking about so many more people in a relatively small area. So, there are many more to choose from. I have no idea what the surgery will entail. If they told DH, he did not tell me. We will have to see what happens.
Gareth, congrats on DGS's promotion. Consumer Lending is definitely a good area to get into. He must learn fast. Sorry about DGD getting strep again.

I think DDIL wants to be not in so much pain and realizes surgery is the way for that to happen. Like I said I think she has come to terms with it.
For our sisters trip, my nephew decided to drive his mom, wife and daughter to Mississippi rather than have them fly. While we were doing our thing, he stayed in New Orleans. He spent one whole day just touring. I don't know what all he did except for the WW2 museum. I was going to go with him but decided not to because the point of the trip was to be with my sisters and nieces. Anyway, he really liked New Orleans. I have been there once before but it was in college so 50 years ago. I remember I enjoyed it. The food was great! Marsha, you may want to consider it. I've heard good things about Nashville and Memphis, too.
Our schools had Spring break earlier in the month. They are out today and Monday. I try to stay home when schools are out like that because the stores are busier. DD said she could tell when schools had a day off because there was less traffic driving to work. I said I could tell because Target, TJMaxx and Chick-Fil-A are so much more crowded.
Karen, yeah, Bob needs to take you out again.
I have a friend who's DH worked for the National Park Service. They lived all over and Puerto Rico was her favorite place.

Robin, every single time me or DH were discharged, the person picking them up, or caregiver was included in the discharge report, which means everything the patient had to do at home was gone over with both the patient and the person picking the patient up. No matter what the patient had done at the hospital, so all the food your DH has to stick to is known by both people. So much of that stuff changed, nationwide when Hilary Clinton had HIPA put into law, back in the 90's. I am a bit surprised you were not included in his discharge report, that way you would know exactly what they want him to eat, and for how long. And Marsha is right about the primary care doctor referring the patient to a surgeon. Usually, it is one that is in the PC umbrella of physicians. My PC, when referring me to an eye specialist, suggested one place, and I asked for a different one, as I was more familiar with that one, what with taking my DD and DS there in the past, and he was fine with that.
Marsha, I always check my gas buddy app, which is exactly the price of gas all over the GB area. Both Woodmans and Kwik Trip on Cardinal Ln, (those 3 gas stations compete against each other for the price of gas) are at $3.15, in fact a lot of the gas stations around town are that price, and then there are the ones that are $3.29.
Here is what I am seeing with Bob: if I do not invite him over like maybe once every two weeks, we do not see each other. We talk a ton on the phone, as most days he calls me a couple times, like in the morning, then the evening. But otherwise, we go along not seeing each other. I am afraid this relationship or friendship will soon come to an end, because I just cannot see this as the kind of relationship I was on the dating site looking for. I hate to break it off, as it seems I just can't find a long-lasting relationship. Guess I should be happy DH and were married for 47 years, right?
Have a nice Friday everyone.

Karen - you can't keep carrying this relationship. I saw a couple people thought maybe he is uncomfortable at restaurants because he is big guy. How big is he? My dh is 6'4" and close to 300 lbs (yes, he needs to lose a lot of weight!!!) but he and I go out to eat from time to time and he has never complained that he is uncomfortable in the chairs or booth or whatever. Sometimes if it's a booth we push the table closer to my side but that's it.

Karen, I was on speaker phone when he was getting his discharge instructions. My DH wants to be the one to ask all the questions. He has a booklet that it was all written into, but I didn't go over it, but have been doing more online research. Things are very different now when it comes to a primary care doctor coming to see you in the hospital. Also, with us having 4 major hospital systems, where you might have 10 doctors who would do this type of surgery, we might have 500. We really don't know what the family emergency is that his Dr was out for, but it ended up all working out. Also, doctors are in these rating systems a lot like the lawyers are, and we really know how that works. We basically know the majority of the lawyers in DH & DS's field that are listed as Super Lawyers. The doctors have Cassell Connelly, which is the same kind of thing. The way it ended up, I am happy about. Things would have worked out very differently if DH had not gone into the hospital as an emergency. He thought it was appendicitis at first. If he would have been seeing a gastroenterologist regularly, which there was no reason for him to do. Also, the doctor who would do this surgery is not a regular gastroenterologist.
Marsha, I was thinking more of Bob having the problem because of him having the hip pain they were talking about. Maybe I was just trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Carol, when I was in New Orleans the most recent time, I ended up walking through half of the WWII Museum one day with DH, then when he was in some sessions for his conference, I ended up going back to do the other half. It is rather overwhelming to do it in one day. If I remember correctly, it's actually 2 building, one concentrates on the battles in Europe, the other in Japan and the south Pacific.
DS2 decided at the last minute to take Leo to opening day for the Mets, which was rained out yesterday. They were on TV when they were showing the opening. I don't know how DDIL managed to take a picture of it. Maybe she was able to back it up and got it actually from the recording of it. My guess is that he went on Stubhub and found someone selling the tickets cheap, because it looked like they had great seats. Him must have seen them on the jumbotron in the stadium too. I'll post the picture on our Facebook page. I can't seem to copy the little video clip she had of it, but do have a still.
