Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

SHAPING UP FOR SPRING! February 11 - March 31
Spring is coming!
Supportive Friends Progress not Perfection Renewal of Being Inspiration New Habits Great Success!
This can be your Spring! This can be your success! No more rationalizing and making excuses.
This challenge isn't just about being alcohol free though it is the focus of the board. It is about finding and giving encouragement, getting healthy, loving ourselves, and finding what works and what doesn't. This is NOT about making ourselves feel badly about the unhealthy choices, it is about celebrating the healthy ones. So let's go for it!
As always, the rules aren't complicated. Simply no alcohol and staying on your food plan. If you get off track, don't give up....don't throw away the day, the night, the week. We are working on progress not perfection.
You may have alcohol issues that you cannot manage on your own and our group is here to support you and encourage you to get the help you might need. You may have alcohol issues that you can control but have to exert the motivation and our group is here to support you.
Spring clean your cupboard early! If you have junk food, tempting alcohol, or trigger foods in your kitchen, you are setting yourself up for failure. Give it away, dump it, GET RID OF IT! Temptation is always going to happen. Don't make it easier for yourself to give in to it. Assess your kitchen, ask if this helps or hinders me. DO NOT have sentimental attachment to food or alcohol. The stuff will always be there, it does not magically disappeared but your health can be compromised! This is your life! Make it the best!
REMEMBERā¦. 1. Work the Plan and the Plan works! Think of your new eating plan as a lifestyle change -- one that will have ups and downs, with good days and (very few) bad.
2. Don't deprive yourself. A food plan should be about SATISFACTION. Find foods you LOVE that will help you meet your goal.
3. Drink lots of water. Water is good for you.
4. Listen to your body. It knows things. Pay close attention to your body cues.
5. Live one day (or even one MEAL) at a time. Don't be discouraged and beat yourself up if you fall off the wagon. Just get back on with lots of helping hands.
6. Get exercise with activities you enjoy. If you don't like what you are doing, then you won't stick with it.
7. Keep track of what you eat. Write it down. You WILL 100% without a doubt make better choices if you hold yourself accountable for them.

Good morning all! I've been awake for a couple of hours. Like Cindy, I had bad dreams. The dream was so vivid and I was being fired from my job for being incompetent and unreliable. I woke up in a panic trying to decide how I could slash my budget and spending and not wind up homeless! It took a good 15 minutes to remember I'M RETIRED! LOL. I rested and read in bed for a while and then got up.
My internet has been really spotty since yesterday afternoon. I kept resetting and restarting and finally figured out it was a server problem and not a problem with my computer. It was probably good to just have an "unplugged" evening anyway!
I had a very good day yesterday though. Went and got my hair trimmed, exchanged a pair of shoes, had my glasses adjusted at Walmart and did a return at UPS. I was so surprised to see the mail run and then went to make a deposit at the bank. But when I went to the dump to take some boxes that my garbage service won't pick up, they were closed!! I just left the boxes in the car and will take them first thing this morning. I want to vacuum out my car this afternoon and maybe take it to the car wash. Then I need to work on the guest room closet. That's where I keep out of season clothes but I am being pretty ruthless about weeding stuff out. The weather is supposed to be gorgeous today and tomorrow and I'm rethinking what to wear to church for Easter. It's supposed to hit 80 tomorrow! Anyway - hope everyone has a great Saturday! Murphy

Of course on Saturday it's rainy and I'm awake before 6 so may as well get up. Did my journaling, coffee, quiet time, in and out with cat demands I see DH has laid out things hoping for pancakes and sausage this morning. I'm pleased with my day yesterday, made it with no treats and surprise surprise I stayed in and under my points for the day! Of course I wanted to lose 5# on the scale this morning for all of my suffering, but no luck. Oh well, try to stay in some sort of control today with meals we have planned. Not sure when I'll get out of the house this morning. I checked where the bigger sale is, actually up north and farther away than I thought. I saw here in town at the indoor Farmer's Market they are also having a spring craft fair so I will just stay local and go to that. Then I can get my other errands done and have time to work on some fun projects. Been thinking about my goals for next month, they have you set one in the journal I have. Mostly my focus will be on stop procrastinating, finish things that are started around here, both in the house and my crafts. Make the hard phone calls and get all the appts set up that I have been avoiding. Get myself to the Y 2-3 days a week once work is done. I'm ready for my days off again, but I can't just sit and veg and scroll all day long! I am wearing a big dent in my end of the couch I think and need to get into a better routine of movement and being productive. One can always make lofty goals, now to stop wishing and start doing! Hope you all have a great weekend. Enjoy your lovely weather if you have it. I see we will be having the April Showers off and on for these first few weeks. We need at least a few dry nice days to get out and cut back all the tall dead flowers we left for the birds over winter and clean up the beds. The pancakes are calling. Check back later. Jan Murphy You were quite the busy bee yesterday. It feels so good to see all those things checked off the list. That's what I mean, I need a few of those days instead of keep moving the chores to the the next day. Glad you will have a beautiful day for Easter. Last year I went over to the park to take pictures of the sunrise. If we don't have another gray cloudy morning tomorrow, I'd like to do that again. Just sort of sets the tone for the Easter Holiday. Cindy Maybe you will get the weather to cooperate and can get in the yard today. I think we will just go get a few nice steaks for tomorrow with mashed potatoes. I bought fresh asparagus yesterday and a big box of Strawberries for some kind of fruit salad. We will use some of them today on the pancakes. You asked about the numb part of my leg. Sometimes it twinges, not sure if that means things are trying to grow back or what. Doesn't really bother me. Will it just be you and DS for tomorrow or has the GF hinted around? Sorry about the crazy dreams. I had to stop reading my book last night when I could tell the next few pages were not going to be "pleasant". Don't like to go to sleep with those images in my head. I'm a bit suspicious of a lot of the ref calls too. Who knows. Waving hi.

DH & I drove to Logan Farm Park to walk yesterday morning, lots of folks out and kids out of school. We stopped at Ingles for groceries, they had a lot of pretty potted flowering plants and hanging baskets in front of the store. When we got back, I put the groceries away, had lunch and some couch time. DS came over at the usual time and we had grilled salmon, rice, and broccoli for dinner. I made a pineapple upside cake, when I flipped it, one of the pans slipped and only about half landed inside the dish. I had wiped the counters just prior to the flip, so I put the rest in the pan with spatulas. I guess it's more of a trifle situation now, LOL. After dinner we colored Easter eggs then watched some TV. I went to bed at my usual time but had trouble falling asleep so I read for a while, turned out the light, tossed and turned, and ended up finishing the book. I am dragging this morning and my eyes are burning, partly from lack of sleep, mostly from the high pollen count. It will be a use-a-lot-of-eyedrops day.
It's sunny and in the 40's again. I had a bad dream right before waking up about having security problems at the Ft. Lauderdale airport. Weird.
Jan- WTG passing by all the treats & yay for having a craft/plant sale to go to. Love your gnome collection.
Cindy- Sorry you were up early with nightmares. WTG doing garage stuff, paperwork, laundry, etc.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Sorry you were up early with bad dreams and have had trouble with your internet. Glad you had a good day yesterday. Our dump was closed yesterday too. GL with your closet.

Hi girls. Itās been a busy week, but I was determined to post today! I enjoyed the WW meeting on Monday, about sneaking in movement. Afterwards I set my goal to reach 5000 steps each day, which I did. Then I went to the audio coaching about being off track. One that I listened to mentioned setting a date for my fresh start and putting it on the calendar, so I did, April 1. New month, new AF challenge. Iām amazed what doing such a simple thing did to my mindset! I even had a blue dot yesterday! Weds night I was able to listen to the 60 and above meeting. It was there that the leader described me in her story. Sally got her activity in but sat the rest of the day. And they just listed simple ways to move. Things I knew, but needed to hear again. Iāve been so tired again, and DH gave me a B12 shot yesterday. I actually felt better today! I played the organ Thursday night and Friday afternoon, and will play for the sunrise service tomorrow. At least for the regular service I can just sit with the choir and enjoy singing! I still have to make my cinnamon sticky bread for the breakfast tomorrow. After church I plan on taking a nap! DD has been in Florida since Tuesday, and will be flying home tomorrow. Iām sure I will hear from her at some point. DH and I are having a turkey breast dinner at home. I bought us individual little lemon desserts. This challenge I gained 1.2 pounds. But considering the way I was eating I canāt believe it wasnāt 5! Iām really planning on working the program next challenge. Of course, I think I said the same thing last time! Oh well, persistence is the name of the game! Enjoy your Easter!

Hi friends! Weāre homeš¢good to see Tyler and the pups. Lex is at work, sheāll be home around 7:30 We had a nice time. Jeff is more confused about moving to FL, realizes heāll really miss the kids. Iām happy about this! We donāt know about Alexis now. We really (all of us!) thought sheād marry Anthony and be taken care of. She probably makes poverty level money. Weāll see. I suggested we go back to our original dreamāthe camper! I donāt know. Maybe weāll win the lottery and we wonāt have to think of this!! Happy Easter friends!!

Hi All!
I have no clue where the day went. It was too windy to have a successful day working outside. DS washed the bathroom walls and painted today. He needs to do touch up and do the baseboards but it looks nice so far. Will see if a second coat is needed though per the description for the paint, one coat primer and paint.
I spent time putting away clothes in my bedroom. Washed stuff that should be washed before being put away. I need to start on my nightstands and dresser....too much stuff like jewelry doesn't get put away. I could probably spend all next week putting stuff away but out of sight, out of mind. Ainsley was doing her gag thing twice this morning but couldn't find any "results". Trimmed out some of her matted fur, not something she likes. As much as I brush her invariably she needs to have knots trimmed. I only do a few at any time, don't want to stress her out.
I'm just dragging. Had more bad dreams that I wake myself up from but sleep just doesn't seem restful. I should breakdown and take something to help have a dreamless sleep.
Wishing everyone an early Happy Easter!
Hugs, Cindy
