Day 31 Decide About Drinking
Whether or not to drink alcohol is a personal choice. If you decide to drink alcohol you need to plan on how to fit it into your food plan.
According to Beck alcohol has 7 calories per gram which is about twice the 4 calories per gram of protein and carbs. Mixers for drinks often are caloric too so mixed drinks can end up being a lot of calories. She points out that if you eat less to be able to drink you could rebound by eating more later because you are hungry. You can also end up overeating because alcohol lowers your inhibitions.
Beck feels that if you don’t plan ahead about your drinking of alcohol you can easier end up drinking too much.
If you want to include drinking alcohol in your food plan she suggests you list the advantages and disadvantages and figure out how to fit it in.
Do you plan on drinking alcohol? If you do how do you fit it in?
Do you have sabotaging thoughts about drinking alcohol? How do you handle them?

I have a couple of alcoholic drinks late Saturday afternoon each week, then I have snacks. The alcohol and snacks are controlled amounts, so I don't overdo it. I am working on fitting this into my week on plan.

I choose to have wine from time to time and make sure I plan ahead to have points available to do so. That said, sometimes there are temptations to have some unplanned and it happens but I move on afterward, take the points hit, and KOKO.

I’ll have an occasional drink but more and more I prefer to pass as I sleep and feel better without it.

I drink very little, and when I do, I track it in my plan, so not really an issue for me. But I think it's good that Beck addresses it this as something to think about.

I drink so little that I don't even track it TBH. In the winter I might have a nip of marsala wine whilst cooking, and by nip I mean like a shot or two's worth of wine. And in the summer I occasionally drink an apertif whilst cooking dinner but it's a small glass and I had nothing at all this past summer. I didn't even drink alcohol in Europe! I felt like drinking wine at all meals was normal in Paris, they looked at me like I was nuts ordering iced tea in February.

I don’t drink any more except for a few small sips to taste someone else’s single malt/barrel or beer/wine. I haven’t had a full glass for years.

I have a few drinks on Friday night with my friend who also lost her husband. I stay at her house and we call it our widow's happy hour.
Over the Christmas holiday I found myself drinking more during the week when I was alone and sad. I've cut that out again. I didn't like the calories, but I really didn't like that I was getting tipsy by myself. It wasn't a healthy way of dealing with grief.
Since I haven't really been tracking anything I definitely have not been tracking my drinking. When I was on WW hard core, I definitely tracked it.
