Happy Easter to those who are celebrating today ~ Church loudspeaker is loud this morning but think the Orthodox is a week out from Easter that Maronites and Catholics are celebrating in this country today. Our time changed last night and I was up before sunrise so heard the birds greet the morning.
Bees are back out and about buzzing about, flies and mosquitoes are returning and not so happy about them, plowing and planting and trimming and such are taking place. I have a potluck this coming Thursday and will be taking a green bean-onion-garlic-tomato-potato dish and will ride with a friend. It is a busy month and hopefully will be a good one. I also <sigh> have to tackle taxes and foreign bank forms for the IRS. AND would love to plan a trip to the USA. We will see.

Hi Girls! Count me in on vowing to be back in full force! I've really missed you and the camaraderie, being away so much lately. I've done okay with some goals and not so good with others. A few days under the weather last week put me behind so, I've been scrambling. lol We are just about ready for our road trip now. We're going to have so much fun! And now, it seems the forecast for the Falls has changed in our favor with sunshine for the eclipse. What a gift that would be! I'm looking forward to joining you all when we get back. Enjoy this special day! *waves* cathygeha 5 for 5 is great work on your goals! It sounds like spring has definitely returned to your neck of the woods. I love the time for plowing and planting. Though, I could do without the mosquitos too. lol So glad you had internet today. It's interesting the Christian churches have loudspeakers as well. I hope you enjoy your upcoming potluck and that your busy month ahead is a really, really good one! klf722 Polka Dot Pound Cake must have been fun. What a great name for a place! I agree you should give yourself some grace. YOU are amazing. Your pace for so long has been relentless and you've accomplished so much. Sometimes a little break in the action, or just the pace, is exactly what we need. Also, the dental issues can take a lot out of us. It's deeply personal and can be so traumatic. I had lockjaw after a wisdom tooth extraction, at 21. I had to eat from a straw for 2 1/2 months. My fear then kept me from going to the dentist as much as I should have, which caused other problems later in life. Sending love and light, my friend. I hope you have a wonderful Easter at your sister's place. The dessert will be scrumptious! luvvinlife , wow, WTG with all those indoor steps! It always feels good to "hit" your goals. The Duo bug will, no doubt, return when you are ready. I'm so with you and Karen and know how crucial good hearing is to our quality of life. I hope you find just the right aides soon. I love that you've been counting down with me! Saying prayers that you and Abel both feel good. Have a wonderful time celebrating with your son, daughter-in-law and the new baby. Safe travels!

APRIL 1

I am feeling good about this week. I plan to stay within points and save up for the potluck on Thursday and so far, so good! The scale is not giving me big drops on the scale (or any at all for three days) but it is also not going up. I have a LOT of books to get read before they disappear and see some skimming in my future.
Here's to finishing the halfway mark in a few days and taking the time to assess whether or not goals are still the ones we want to pursue as we move forward.

Hi everyone! So nice to get updates from Pam & Gisรฉlle! And Cathy there in Lebanon getting it done despite not having internet at times and long journeys to do errands and so much work to maintain home & hearth! I can't imagine what it must be like sometimes. Certainly not an easy life. And yet here we all come to share and many of our struggles are shared too. It's so nice to celebrate our victories and learn to try new strategies too. I am grateful for all of you! Gisรฉlle, my hearing aids are Oticon Opn S 1 Minirite 312, I think. what a difference they've made. Good luck getting yours. Feel free to pick my brain. Pam, I'm so excited about your trip! Enjoy and please let us know how it all went! Cathy, your potluck sounds delicious as usual. Enjoy your reading! I made a coconut cake and Italian fig cookies to ring to Easter yesterday, mashed potatoes, and a mustard sauce for the ham. Busy, but I got it all done. Great dinner with family! More tomorrow!! Waving!

KAREN: What type of fig cookies did you make? I have fig jam but am not sure what to do with it
amyrs, Welcome to the group and I found three places with the Simply Filling foods list:

Today I will pick Rosalie up and we will go to OMT to prepay for an outing we are going on the 12th. We will have lunch out together and do some walking in Batroun or Byblos. I will stop for feta cheese and a loaf of bread on the way back and might pick up some cat food if we go to the shop in Byblos that has the kind Bella likes.

Hi Everyone! Cathy, what's/where's OMT? For the fig cookies I made the filling with dried figs and lots of good stuff. It's Jo Cooks Italian Fig Cookies. Her name is Joanna Cismaru. They are amazing! The dough was nice and workable. I made some notes for next time but will make them again! Nice drop on the scale too Cathy! No steps goal yesterday Hydrated Decluttered! Slept at least 7 hours I was sore from Monday's oral surgery and had a nasty headache yesterday. We were out early when the weather wasn't so terrible. It got worse and today is awful. Thunder storms are in the forecast for ~5 PM and the dogs will not be happy. As it is they hate the rain and the wind. And the wind is howling! Trying to get things from my list done and one is an outdoor errand but I don't want to go out! Lots of paperwork though so plenty to do. And there's always tomorrow, at least I hope so. Waving to all!

Lovely day with friends. Good food, great conversation, lovely welcoming home. Now to relax at home, drink lots of water, read, and then sleep deeply...right? Funny thing...the rice pudding had a real "kick" to it...spicy. The person who made it thought she was sprinkling cinnamon on top but it was cayenne...some hated it but I kind of liked it!
KAREN: OMT is like a Western Union office where you can send money to someone inside or outside of the country. They are in most villages and seem to be on almost every corner in some areas. We went to a nearby village to send the money to the organizers of the outing on the 12th.

April 5 already. ?? Hi girls! I canโt believe that the first week of April is almost gone. Iโm on day 2 of our visit to Charlotte North Carolina for the baby shower/10th anniversary celebration for my son and daughter-in-law. Thank goodness Iโm at the hotel! Abel left yesterday to see the rest of the grandchildren in GA. My daughter is here also. Itโs hectic but fun. My daughter-in-law is already 7.5 centimeters dilated and ready to give birth. My son is hoping that she can hold on until after the shower. ๐ฅด๐ Iโm getting my steps done even though I canโt go outdoors. Allergies wonโt let up with this pollen in the air. Iโm making time for Duo. Meditation is done Decluttering is ongoing. Iโm quite satisfied with the changes Iโve been seeing and feeling. We will be reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Hopefully the library will have it in by the time I return. I had been hoping to read it on the road but I really enjoyed the beauty of spring unfolding as we left the cold rainy temps of the north. Yesterday I attended a baby shower given by their Bible Study group. It was so cute. Iโm thinking that I will focus on these for our next 100 Days: Language Reading Music It seems ambitious but I can always reroute if need be. OH NO! My great nephew just posted that there was an earthquake in NY just now! 4.5! Cathy I love how you are finding great ways to be social , have fun, and balance the scale. Youโre killing it on Duo! Will you get to use your French soon? I plan to do that next. I have 3 grandchildren on there now so I have to keep up. Karen I hope your headache is all gone. GREAT JOB on Duo! You must be feeling so proud. I had a good experience this morning when I chose to converse with a woman while I was getting breakfast. I was shocked that it came to me so quickly. Youโre my inspiration to keep at it. I renewed my subscription because the ads were annoying. ๐๐ Waving to you doordie50, Pam ๐๐ฝ ENJOY! Have a great weekend everyone!

APRIL 6 My goals for this 100 days are: ๐ Track every BLTโ๏ธ ๐ถโโ๏ธ Walk or do some other form of exercise to total 150 minutes per weekโ๏ธ ๐งน Clean or tidy or declutter something every dayโ๏ธ ๐๏ธ Use a fountain pen daily or do something creative โ๏ธ ๐ซ๐ท Work on French either on Duo Lingo or online reading something in French โ๏ธ โ๏ธ Weigh every morning โ๏ธ <166.2>
Pre-tracked breakfast and just did the same for lunch. Have seven points left for dinner and may accrue some activity points walking while reading in a bit.
Talked to our daughter yesterday and she will be moving into her new home soon. I hope she loves it! Told her I won't come visit for at least a month so she can settle in
Gisรฉlle: The French is coming along and some things seem easier. Rosalie, my friend from Togo, speaks French and sometimes I ask her a few things and she will speak to me in French and I will try to respond BUT it is not easy for me...must easier to see and read than to speak for me. My daughter and I may go to France at some point in the future...could use it then? Or if I fly through Paris on the way to the USA if/when I head there again. Have fun with the family in NC. How did your daughter-in-law with the shower and having the baby? Did you feel the earthquake?
KAREN: Sorry about your headache after the dental surgery. Did you feel the earthquake? Thank you for the fig cookie information. Found it online. Now to see if I can use my fig jam or would need real dried figs...nope...dry figs are required. It sounds DELICIOUS!
PAM: I hope that you have clear skies for the eclipse and enjoy your road trip. Do tell us all about it when you return!

All good here! Cathy, it calls for rum and when I went to buy it they had the clear Bacardi and the brown. What's the difference I asked? He said the dark one changes the color of the baked product - not an issue since it goes into the filling, and that the brown one has a little spice. I thought about it but played it safe with the clear. Next time I'm going for the rum with some spice. It's a great recipe though and I will make them again. Your rice pudding story made me laugh! I once made a Mexican Chocolate cake that had a trace amount of cayenne in it and I nearly sent someone to the hospital. Seriously. So I've eliminated it from the recipe. It's still an awesome recipe and the icing is great too! Mexican Chocolate Cake with Mascarpone Frosting by bakedbree. Just be careful with the cayenne but it's a killer cake! Gisรฉlle & Cathy, there's an exercise called "Speak" on Duo. You listen and then speak the sentence out loud. It's also written so you just read it aloud. Each "game" has 10 sentences to speak and it's nearly impossible not to get a perfect score. With double and the extra 5 XPs on Saturdays for your first hour of lessons it can be 50 XPs a pop. I find it's really helped me with the Italian spoken word. A lot. Try it. Even for 20 points it's easier than Unit Rewind. All you have to do is read and pronounce. I feel the shift in the progress I've made. Terremoto - the Italian word for earthquake. Yes, I felt it! 10:23 AM. It was a 4.8. I was having breakfast since I play MJ at 12:30 on Fridays. All of a sudden the shaking started. I knew somehow it was an earthquake but felt silly even saying it. It wasn't like anything else and it was really scary. My husband had worked an overnight and was awakened from sleep as I went in to deliver the crazy news that I thought we just had an earthquake! He's asking "What the H was that?" at the same time. He lived in CA for 10 years so he knew. It took us a while to get news to confirm it though. We tried our local PD's non-emergency # but it was busy. My husband's cell service cut out. Mine was fine. I found a website under the USGS called "Did you Feel it?" but it even took them a while to post it. I could've reported it to them but felt foolish, without confirmation. Later I did and provided them with details. According to their site there were many aftershocks but the magnitude was low and probably not felt, but all in the same vicinity. At ~6 PM there was a stronger one - maybe a 4, and my husband was sitting on the couch and I was walking around getting ready to go out. He felt it but I didn't. Then minutes later the news confirmed that too and later it appeared on the USGS site. Their postings indicated more today too! Crazy! Didn't get my steps yesterday Maybe got 7 hours sleep? Decluttered a little Got outside Waving to Pam & everyone!! Be safe all!
