I saw Karen post on Facebook last night that her internet was out, so I assume that's why she didn't post. I know we are all waiting to hear about her apartment, so it must be particularly nerve wracking to her.
Marsha, a real mitzvah to have that woman, and I am sure the other as well. No one wants to know that it is Passover and they don't have a Seder to go to, and I know you like to have one, so I am sure having 6 vs 4 is probably cooking similar things with fewer leftovers. One year, I guess our kids must have been away at college, we had nowhere to go for the 2nd Seder. We had the 1st, then my DB and family and DM decided to go back to my sister's in Ithaca for the 2nd Seder, and our cousin we used to go to all the time decided to go away. It was an terrible feeling after a lifetime of having 2 Seders. This year we are happy to go to our cousin's the 2nd night, because we really didn't want to go to Princeton, where my other cousin is. We don't like driving back that far late at night, but staying over on a weekday is not the greatest.
Anngie, the funny thing about William Kent Kruger is that I did not love his other 2 I read, but did really like this new one. I think sometimes I have the opposite feeling about certain books as others do. I hope you didn't get a lot of snow. It has finally stopped raining here, but I read that parts of New England could get 18 inches.
Carol, amazing that the woman would have the nerve to take the church dinnerware and things for her catering business. Kind of crazy.
It is interesting to see that it seems that all churches and temples have to be locked or guarded now. We have a guard, or a man anyway, not sure what we need to call it, he is not in a uniform, at the unlocked door all day until after whatever event is going on at night. What is kind of annoying to me is that we are now giving out ID's to members. I have to go pick mine up, during the day, and the door closest to the main office is locked all the time. The open door where the guard stands is where they need it to be because it is near where the nursery school and Hebrew School are, but I have to walk all around the building to go and pick up my ID. We have 2 services a day in the temple also, in the small chapel, which is also closer to where the guard is.
It has finally stopped raining here. I was trying to read some of Anita De Monte Laughs Last yesterday, but ended up not reading much because I was texting with another cousin for a while. I probably don't talk about them a lot, but I have a lot of cousins. There were 11 on my father's side, and 4 on my mothers, plus now the next generation who are adults, the one I was texted is the DD of my oldest cousin. DH only has 2 first cousins, because only his father survived with 1 sibling, but he was close with his 2nd cousins. Which I guess I am too, but I have to many to go out that far. The one great thing about Facebook is that it has helped everyone stay more connected, no matter where everyone lives.

Hopefully Karen has her power restored soon or has it already been but now just internet is out??!!! So frustrating----GRRRR!
Yesterday the wind blew like crazy here but it would have been a pretty nice day if it wasn't so windy. The wind has died down and we are expecting 58 degrees for a high today!
I have been MIA for a couple of days as DH and I both had the stomach flu and boy was it a rough go. Both of us are finally feeling better. Stomachs have been better but we both just really had a hard time getting going again and just wanted to sleep. Thank you to a couple of our DGC for sharing with us----UUUGGGHHH! When I finally felt like posting it was last night so thought I would just wait until this morning. I was on FB for a bit and did see that Karen had posted about having no power.
Robin----Thanks for getting us started, it looks like I have some reading back posts to catch up on. Yes I think that is the greatest thing about FB is keeping a connection with relatives and friends that we don't stay in touch with much .
Well I best read the past few days of posts before I do anymore personals. Hi to all for now.
I am having a sisters day again today so I must get going for now. It is kind of soon for us to get together but with DBIL's funeral on the 12th and for now springs work looking early it may be awhile before I can get together with them so we decided on today.

Pinky, have fun today. Now that you say stomach bug, I think that what the secretary had was probably not food poisoning, which people say much too often, but a stomach bug, because once that's going around, it's going around everywhere.
I messaged Karen on Facebook. Yes, it was out of power altogether, not just the internet. He DD brought over a small power charger so that she could run little appliances and keep her phone charged. Hopefully when she gets home from work it will be back.

I was surprised to see that Karen is still without power this morning. Good thing she has that small charger her DD brought her. Hopefully she'll have power when she comes home after work.
That wind really blew yesterday. A lot of power outages around here too but we never lost ours. It's still windy today but nothing like yesterday.
I have my routine six month checkup with the retina specialist this morning. I'd just as soon quit going since I haven't needed an eye injection now in probably a couple of years. I don't want to mess around though with my eyesight so I keep having that eye checked. Just hate having my eyes dilated. Maybe if all looks well today he'll put the next appointment out farther.
Robin, can you have a seder with just with you and DH or does it require more people?
Pinky, so sorry you and DH had been sick. I figured you'd just been busy when I hadn't seen you here.

I had a post that I had written and I don't see it here. I guess I forgot to hit "post". Well that's that.
The power company is saying they expect to have all power restored by the end of the day so hopefully Karen will have power when she gets home from work.
Robin - I was sorry to hear that there was a year when you had no second seder to go to. With all the invitations you hand out, you would think someone would have reciprocated. In our early years of marriage I think there were a few years dh and I did seder just the 2 of us, and I seem to recall when ds was still speaking to us he sent us pictures of the seder he and ddil had with just them. Are you doing first night this year? Will there be a crowd?
Pinky - sorry to hear you weren't well but I'm glad you are better. Have fun with the sisters.
Gareth - good luck with the retina guy. Maybe if you ask to spread out the visits he will agree.
RV, PHX and I had a call last night and we are all in agreement on going to Missoula, MT. I am going to call their tourism office today and find out about what area we should look for to stay and what area we should avoid and then we'll start looking for an airbnb. Also PHX said she wants to start looking for a cruise for next winter. Hmmmm I see PHX and RV tried to Facetime me this morning. I wonder what that was about. They know I'm at work.

Gareth, we could have 2, and that year we had so many leftovers from the 1st night, that's what we had, but did not go through the "service". As I remember that day I had a very stressful day at work, it was early on in my mortgage years, and there was a time then that people were buying and refinancing like crazy, so not sure I wanted to go anywhere anyway, but it was DH who was mad that my family deserted him, as he felt. I said no, those years we always went to his cousin the 2nd night, and she was the one who wasn't doing it.
Marsha, I decided to let my sister do the 1st night, not argue with her, but next year I will do it, as it is on a weekend, and DS1 and family will definitely be here, still not sure if they are coming this year. And she always claims her DD is too busy to drive out to Long Island. Glad you got this summer's trip organized, or let's hope so with those Facetime calls.

Pinky, sorry you have been sick and glad you are feeling better. Have fun with your sisters. It is nice you can get together.
Marsha, I loved Eleanor Oliphant. In fact it is one I own in hardback. I didn't pay full price because I found it at a thrift store.
I only put a little bit of onion in potato salad, probably because that is what my mom did. Also, she would mash the potatoes instead of just cubing them. I thought everyone made it like that until we had company one time and the husband said something about having yellow mashed potatoes with eggs and stuff in them. It really embarrassed me. When I was with my sisters we talked about how my mom did that.
Marsha, sounds like your trip is coming together.
Gareth, good luck with your eye appointment. I have a check up with the dermatologist this afternoon.

We ended up with 8” of snow! I’m so over this. A week ago it was 15.5” - which had all melted - and now 8”. And it’s flurrying now! The upside is Sunday it’ll be 60 degrees - and they’ll probably talk about flooding!
Robin, thanks for getting us going! We are similar in the “cousin” department! I have 13 on my mother side and 3 on my father’s. The best memories I had growing up was getting together with my cousins. When we were quite small we all got together quite a bit. Then as we got older it was for holidays. The funny thing is, when one or two of use get together we often end up talking of “do you remember when”. How I wish I could have made memories like that for my sons. They only had 2 cousins.
Pinky, sorry you and DH were so sick but glad you’re fine now. Enjoy the day with your sisters!
Gareth, good luck with your eye appointment. If he doesn’t bring it up I’d definitely ask him to extend visits. Never hurts.
Marsha, glad plans are being made! I enjoyed Eleanor Oliphant. Similar type book as A Man Called Otto, Olive Kitteridge and others I’ve read. Books about the downtrodden of which we probably all know at least one person like that.
Karen, hope all is well!
Carol, it’s too bad that husband thought it necessary to make a comment like that. When will people learn they don’t have to say everything they’re thinking.
I heard on the news just yesterday that Costco is (or soon will be) getting into the weight loss business. Some members will be able to get a prescription and buy Ozempic.

Anngie, sorry about that snow. I do have so many great memories of our cousins get togethers. 5 of the cousins lived in the same apartment building as my grandparents, who we used to go visit quite often, so we saw them. My grandparents had a bungalow at the beach, so we used to visit them a lot during the summer when we were young, and all the cousins would come. When my kids were young, both of my brothers-in-law lived right near us, and we used to get together a lot, and I really relied on one DBIL & DSIL to help out with driving my kids. Then they moved to Myrtle Beach when my DS1 was 10. We still got together with the others, and the cousin on that side, who my kids used to forget was a cousin and called her aunt. She had 2 kids. She's the one who will be making the Seder. When my kids were older, my cousins on my mother's side had young kids who were very attached to my kids.
An update on Karen, still no power, and they may not have until Saturday afternoon. She was having dinner with her DD tonight, and she will give her a bigger battery pack, so she might be able to make herself coffee tomorrow. The original one didn't work the coffee maker. I guess I would just stop somewhere and get coffee, because I certainly couldn't do without it.
DS and I had to go to someone in Queens to have their will signed. The problem was that it was rush hour traffic coming home, so knowing that area of Queens from when we lived there for a short time, I took a local road back, and it works out that if you catch it right, you rarely stop for a red light. I stopped at 1 the whole time coming back, and also stopped someplace I like to pick up dinner. They make a meatloaf I love, and I got porcini mushroom risotto, which is also great. Now I just have to heat it up.
