Good morning. 33, partly cloudy, going to 44. Heatwave has started!! Robin, thank you!!! I felt bad sticking you with the start-up, as I know you need to get to the office. I appreciate it. It sounds like you had quite a bit of rain(?), but it has stopped. We had on and off light rain yesterday, while trying to get the recess's in. After keeping them in Wednesday, because of the weather and of course once again being short staffed, I did not want to keep them in yesterday. I agree about Facebook and keeping up with cousins, cousins I had not in past years kept up with. Pinky, nice to see you back on here, and sorry about your stomach flu!! I think I have gotten immune from most the bugs with the kids at school, but I used to have the same issue with being around the grandkids if one of them was sick, they were nice enough to share. Wasn't that wind unreal??? Tons of outages here in our area of Wisco. Last I heard was 90,000. Glad you are feeling up to normal activities. Gareth, I was surprised when I got home from work on Wednesday and the power was off, after going through the worst part of the storm with no issues, except losing WIFI. I heard that WI has power company help from other states, one being Iowa!! So, thank you for your states help getting us up and running!!! How was your retina checkup? Marsha, I think I have done the same thing with thinking I hit post and had not. Power came back on at 7:25 last night. Since I had been at work when it went off, everything was turned off, so I was in bed, covered with a nice comforter, (it was a bit cold in the apartment by last night) reading a book on my kindle, and I heard the printer resetting itself. I had to listen a minute as I didn't know what that noise was at first, lol. I then flew out of bed and turned up the thermostat!! WPS kept the notice about my area at getting power BY Saturday at 3pm, so we were so upset about our plans with DGD and her coming here to get ready for prom. I am just tickled to read about your DD and her determination to get her workout in!! That had to have been miserable even going across a parking lot to do it! (I probably would have driven over there, lol!!) Carol, I had not heard of mashing the potatoes for salad. But I know someone who asked one time if my potatoes in the salad were mashed together, and I sure did not know what he was talking about. So there are others out there that have it that way. Hope you had no issues at the dermatologist yesterday. Anngie, 8" We ended up with 7", but that was compacted, what they call a heart attack snow. Our week next week is predicted to be in the 60's also, thank goodness!! Thank you. The last time I lost power, in June of 22 I was not working, so this time was a bit different. I didn't end up staying at DD for dinner, as they eat later during the week, and I was so chilled from doing all 3 recesses with light rain most of the time, all I wanted to do was crawl in bed with a heavy comforter and read. So, I ran over there, swapped out the charger for a bigger but heavier one, which in the long run, the part I wanted it for did not work. I feel kind of guilty that I got power back so soon, when there are so many people, especially up north where it is colder, that are still waiting, and are being told like I was that it could be till Saturday or even Sunday before they have power. I could go on and on with my experience these past couple days, but I won't bore you all. I have not heard anything from the apartment office yet. I will wait till Monday as with the storm, things might be backed up. Did I tell you all that I saw my apartment on the management's website for rent? That was a shock. So, I have to get to work straightening things up a bit, in case they want to show it.

Karen, yeah on getting back power and internet. I know how it is, unfortunately it has happened to us too often for my liking. A few summers ago, I think it might have even been 2020, we were without power for 5 or 6 days. It was hot and August, and we ended up staying at a hotel, or actually 3 different ones because we moved. So, it was like a vacation, seeing as we weren't going on one because of Covid. Sometimes we will have it out for 6 or 8 hours. Sorry you have not heard about the apartment yet, I know it is frustrating. I am not sure that they will actually show your apartment, but you should find out, in case they want to let people in when you are not home, as if they are able to do that. It's not a big deal for me to start the thread, because it takes only a few seconds more than me writing up a post. Seeing as I usually post at the end of the day too, I don't have to really go back.
DH had his follow up doctor's appointment and the surgery he will need was explained. He admitted that the reason he couldn't figure out what was going on with the doctors he saw in the hospital was that with the morphine he was getting in the beginning he probably wasn't concentrating. Of course the discharge planner who told DH that the doctor only had an office in Queens was really an idiot, because that is only a satellite office, and she is part of the main group in hospital. The 2 women in the group, who are younger, are apparently the ones who have spent the extra training to do the surgery robotically, the older ones don't do that, and although still invasive surgery, it is considered safer I think. Right now he is thinking about doing that on May 15th.
I am thrilled that I finally got a book that I stuck with enough to really get into. The first 30 or so pages didn't grab me as much, but what I read last night I really enjoyed. Don't ask me to categorize the book, but it is Anita De Monte laughs last. It's by the same woman who wrote Olga Dies Dreaming, which I really liked.

It was a beautiful day here yesterday and made it to 59, today it is 39 already and going to 55 so another beautiful day here so I hope I am sending some nicer weather your way. We are looking at a windy and wet weekend however.
Karen---Glad you got your power back on sooner than they said. I am guessing then that the getting ready for prom at your place is still on. That will be so much fun. Keeping my fingers crossed you hear about the new apartment soon.
Robin---I am glad that your DH has things figured out with the surgery but not glad that he has to have it, but I am sure he will feel much better after. DO you know if they are taking some extra of his colon out or just the abscess?
Gareth---How was your checkup yesterday----hope all is good.
Marsha----Happy to hear your friends are happy with the Missoula suggestion and you can now check into ideas to do there. I think it sounds like a lot of fun.
Carol---Oh my, I don't think that was very polite of the guy to call your DM's potato salad yellow mashed potato's but it does sound a bit different. I am sure she got the tip from some where to somewhat mash them and it would be so much easier than cubing them all. In this case easy might not win out for me though.
Anngie---Sorry about that snow----hey at least its moisture. Something we are strongly lacking here.
Thank you everyone about my being sick. I felt good yesterday, but last night I woke about midnight with the worse case of heartburn and nothing seemed to make it better. I didn't eat much yesterday and ate mild so I am not sure what that is about. I rarely have heartburn. But this morning it is gone but just don't feel the best again. Strange! And it is also strange that I have had no appetite since as I have not eaten much nor do I feel hungry in the lest bit so I guess the flu must have raised havoc with my system.
I am glad I felt well yesterday though and really enjoyed being with my sisters. We talked about how we are so glad that we all get along and we are the kind that fight and cause arguments. This going for lunch and playing Hand and Foot is something we all look so forward to. My sisters are a fun bunch and we talk and laugh a lot. These last few years of doing this is probably the most time I have spent with my sisters with my being so much younger and having been at different stages in life through the years.
Still listening to The Berry Pickers and it really hasn't grabbed me yet but has kept me interested enough I guess---Has anyone else read it or listened?

Karen - I'm so glad you got your power back! If I were you I probably would have slept at dd's on her couch. Or gone to a hotel. But now all is well. I used the expression heart attack snow when talking to dd and she had never heard that before, in fact she didn't realize heart attacks from shoveling snow were a thing.
Robin - I remember that storm when you were without power for days. Good that dh had his appointment and now understand the surgery and it is scheduled. How do you feel about it?
I've never heard of mashed potato salad and I'm having trouble imagining it. Is it like cold mashed potatoes?
Hi Pinky.
I grew up with my cousins right there in the area. We all went to the same high school and when we were very small, one of my cousins and I were together constantly because our mothers were very close. I used to joke that we shared a crib. Unfortunately, my kids did not have any cousins nearby. DD has a good relationship with a few of her second cousins but ds, as you would expect, wants nothing to do with them.
No plans this weekend except the usual house cleaning plans which don't always get done. I have to go return some sports bras that I bought a few weeks ago so I will have to actually drag myself out of the house.

Karen, glad you finally have power back! We've lost power but never for as long as that. Glad to hear our state helped. I hadn't heard that. I was really hoping you'd have heard by now about the apartment. Has Bob tried contacting you?
Robin, glad to hear things are coming together for DH's surgery.
Carol, I've had potato salad using using mashed potatoes and like it that way too. I can't remember though the last time I had it that way or who made it since I don't remember ever making it that way myself.
Pinky, if the heartburn happens again I'd get it checked since it's not common for you.
Anngie, I can't believe all the snow you've had! Hope this is it for you now.
Finally a nice, sunny day with hardly and wind. 50's today. Looking forward to 60's and 70's next week.
Good report from the retina dr. He was going to have me come back again in six months. I questioned that since it's been two years since I needed an injection so he put it out nine months and if all is still ok then once a year. He said it needs watching because it could come back again that I'd need an injection again. Hope not!

Yes, Marsha, an earthquake! I can remember exactly where I was the other 2 times we had earthquakes. Of course at first we think that our building is blowing up, but then I got a call from a client a few miles away, and he said his house was shaking too, then a bunch of friends started texted. Of course why they sent the alerts about it to our phones an hour later I have no idea. I felt one very mild aftershock, but that's it. It was centered in New Jersey.
As far as DH's surgery, the biggest issue with it is work, how he will feel afterwards, and not having clients being turned off by the fact that he has been out a lot. I am not 100% sure how much they are taking out, but they cut some out and piece it back together again, so I would imagine from what he said it would be not just the abscess. The recovery time is 4-6 weeks, but I don't think that means he will have to be out of commission for 4-6 weeks, or that is how long it takes to heal.
Gareth, good news on having your appointments pushed out, but I can understand being cautious about checking. Keep in mind with the diverticulitis attack DH just had, he had a colonoscopy only 6 weeks before, and they saw nothing, and then the infection just cropped up. So, you never know. My eyes are one thing I don't really like to fool around with.
Although I wasted a lot of time on the phone with our phone provider because there was something wrong with DH's line forwarding, it has been a busy morning. DS1 flew to Denver this morning for a bachelor party.
Pinky, it is great that you get along so well with your sisters. Glad you had fun with them.

Robin, I wondered what Marsha meant about earthquake. Just saw about it now on the noon news. Glad it wasn't worse. Yes, my eyesight is something I don't want to mess around with.

Robin, I just saw about the earthquake on the news and was going to ask about it. We had one several years ago. It was the first one I had ever felt. I was also going to ask about your DH and you answered that, too.
On my mom's side there were 13 grandkids. We were closest to 2 of them because they lived next door to grandparents and were about an hour away. They were boys and were close to my middle sister and me in age. The one who died just last year was the youngest. His family lived in California and would come visit our grandparents about every other year so we would always go see them when they were there. Two lived in Houston and we hardly ever saw them. The others lived in the same town as my grandparents but we didn't visit them every time we were there. On my dad's side there were 11, 3 have died that I know of. There is one woman who I'm not sure about. I have done some deep searching on the internet for her. The problem is she has been married 2, maybe 3 times which makes it harder to find. They were the children of my dad's oldest brother who was 10 years older than him. The 2 youngest cousins were the ones we saw the most. My kids have 3 cousins on DH's side and 4 on my side. They aren't close to any of them. DD and my nephew's wife seemed to click on our trip or it could have been from the wine.
I wonder if my mom diced the potatoes too small and after they were done, they were mushy. Just stirring them would make them almost like lumpy mashed potatoes. Or maybe she did them like that because her mom did.
Gareth, great about the eye doctor.
My derm. appointment was fine. They moved to a new office and it is blindingly white, very clinical looking. He basically looked me over and said, "yes, you still have psoriasis" and refilled my prescriptions. They called it a full body check but it was more like a full body glance.

It’s odd, but some people in this area felt the earthquake and others claim they didn’t. I was in a store at the time and didn’t feel a thing. My sister who lives 50 minutes away did. I have felt them in the past, though.
Robin, I remember when you were out of power 5-6 days and that you went to a hotel or two. I’m glad you now have more info oh DH’s upcoming surgery. After what you said to Gareth, I wonder is something done during the colonoscopy caused an infection. However it’s a moot point now. Will the removal of the abscess also remove the clip they found? I’ll bet DH will be back to work, to some point, sooner than you think out of sheer determination.
Karen, glad you’re back! I would have stayed home and suffered it out like you! I really do hope your plans for DGD’s prom is still on for tomorrow! These are the fun times! I know how frustrated you are re the new apartment and I don’t blame you. Wouldn’t the old place have to contact you a certain number of hours in advance before they come?
Pinky, sorry about the heartburn. Did you need to sleep sitting up? Glad you had a great time with your sisters. How’s your sister doing?
Gareth, nine months is a reasonable time. I know you’ll keep on top of it.
Carol, when I make potato salad I tend to add the mayo when the potatoes are still warm. This makes them a little “mashed” along with chunks cut up. I’m often asked to bring it so it must be liked.
Looks like a quiet weekend here. I just want to get through it with no additional snow!

Karen - I agree with what Anngie said. I think the landlord has to contact you before entering your apartment unless it is for an emergency repair.
Gareth - I'm glad you pushed the doc about extending the time between visits. If he thought it was inappropriate, he would have said so.
Robin - I expect dh will be working from home before he is cleared to go back to work. Can he connect to your office computers from home?
Carol - good news on the derm appointment, although it does sound like drive by medicine.

Hello. Am sitting with my feet up, having a glass of wine, trying to decompress from this crazy week, and get ready for tomorrow. Went to Aldi's after work, as they have an excellent Charcuterie board that I wanted for tomorrow and was surprised to see they are closed due to the storm. I saw a few utility trucks across the street, which should not be there, so that area must have really taken a good hit from the storm. Geez, if I got my power back last night, I guess I assume everyone else in this area should too. So I went to Woodmans, my normal store to shop at, but does not have those boards. I tried to get all the things needed for just that, plus of course other things. They had just filled the reduced bakery cart, so I was able to get a few packs of mini cupcakes cheap. (Yes, they are decorated for St. Pat's Day, but who cares, lol!!) Got a few different varieties of the White Castle slider sandwiches. And some other odds and ends, like chips and Woodman's idea of a mini-Charcuterie package. And for sweets, the cupcakes. DD1 is getting the fake Champagne for the granddaughters. I got 3 bottles of Champagne, which took me forever to pick out, as I have no clue as to what brands are good.
Have a great evening, to whoever will read this yet today. Happy Friday!!! Rough week here in Wisco, so the weekend is really needed!!!

Anngie, my DH was driving so he didn't feel it. I think I just felt an aftershock. I did feel an aftershock earlier in the day, and I am sure this was one too, it felt like not only was the house shaking, but rattling. It only lasted a few seconds.
Karen, I definitely need a glass of wine, but I have no idea what we will do for dinner yet.
One of my BFF's just called me that she has Stage 1 breast cancer and has to have a lumpectomy. She was lucky that they saw something at her annual mammo. I feel bad because her surgery is supposed to be the day we are leaving for a conference, otherwise I would take her because she doesn't have anyone else.
Marsha, I will have to remember of course to tell you on Monday. We have a cloud based case management system, and DH can do anything from home, other than face to face meetings with clients.
