Good morning. 30, clear, going to a sunny 53. Robin!!! An EARTHQUAKE? Holy cow!!! Did it scare you? I take it that it wasn't very bad, but I can't imagine what you all were thinking when you felt it!!! Was there any damage, do you know? What is this world coming to??? I saw something on FB last night that the Statue of Liberty was struck by lightning, then the earthquake! Good luck to your DH with his upcoming surgery. Sorry about your DF, but if there is anything good about the cancer, at least it is stage 1. Pinky, thanks for sharing your weather; you can stop at the rain part, lol, but we too are getting that tomorrow. Today will be nice though, so there is that. Yes, the pre-Prom party is rescheduled, with a noonish start. It was fun shopping for it, yesterday. Thanks, about the apartment. I think I am burnt out about it, as I am ambivalent about it right now. I hate to say anything, but your heartburn can be a sign of something more serious. If that would last more than a day or two, please go get it checked out, ok? How wonderful to be getting so close to your older sisters at this time of life. Marsha, I am of the same mind about mashed potato salad. I hope you return the bra today, as tomorrow is to be a rainy one. Gareth, yup, I was very happy when the power came back, especially since the power company was sending out notices that it could possibly not be till this afternoon. I am not too worried about the apartment, since that woman basically assured me that I would most likely be getting approved. Thank goodness, since with the bad storm and all the power outages, I don't think I would have heard anything anyway this past week. After I sent the text to Bob, about "not feeling the love anymore", I waited a little bit, to make sure he got the text, then I blocked him from my phone number. I did worry a little bit that he knew where I live, but he does not seem too ambitious to even drive over here and cause a scene. (Maybe I am flattering myself thinking he would actually do that!!!) So, it has been quiet here, about him. Yay on your eye check up!!! Growing up we don't give our eyes a thought, but once we get to our age, they are very important. Carol, I am surprised you had an earthquake where you live. It is like us having one, very rare, right? Love the subject of potato salad that was on here the other day. My mother made the perfect salad, even though when I was younger, I did not appreciate it. I have a couple recipes of it, which are good, but to this day I am not a big lover of that dish. I would make it for DH, so since he is gone, I can't remember if I have made it since then. Glad your doctor apt was quick! Those are the kind I like to go to. Anngie, do you get a lot of earthquakes there? From what you said, it sounds like they are a bit common there. I felt there was no reason to leave my apartment just because I did not have power. Since I had water, and we were not as cold as in the winter, I was fine. By the time it came back on, that evening, it was getting a bit chilly but with my pj's and robe on, I was fine. I did put a comforter on the bed, which came off when the power came back on, hahaha. There are still so many without power, even now. They are looking at getting it back during this weekend. This was a big big storm, affecting such a large region of our state. I did my pre-Prom party shopping after work yesterday; I first went to my favorite Aldi's, as they have a very nice Charcuterie board, but they were locked up tight, as they still had no power. I have champagne for us adults, DD1 is bringing alcohol free champagne. I got lots of little goodies to snack on, with a lot of different slider burgers to just heat in the micro. We are to get rain tomorrow, so the snowbanks that are left from the other day should be gone, thank goodness...tired of looking at them! I do know the landlord has to give me notice of showing the apartment, I just want to make sure things are looking good for it. Plus, I was surprised to see it posted for rent so soon. Such is life. When digging around the pantry yesterday to find containers to use for today, I must have moved a glass platter, as after I came out of there, it came crashing down in the pantry, and shattered into a million pieces. OMG! What a mess!!! Glass all over. I had to just walk away for a bit and think over the best way to clean it up. It was up high on one of the shelves, so it really it the floor hard, and guess what? There is a mark on the floor now. Grrr....I can just see my security deposit going out the window now. When the power went out, something happened to my sound bar, attached to the TV in the living room. I cannot get it back on, so the TV sounds tinny. Oh happy days!!! At least I had a great day at work yesterday. A couple 6th graders at the last lunch of the day found a nest of baby bunnies up against a part of the building. I was so happy they came and got me, to see what we could do about it. (Nothing! we just need to leave them alone) I know on Monday or whenever we get back out there, we will be looking to see if they are still there.

Karen, when we really think about it, the northeast, and down the east coast, has all the mountains that were formed millions of years ago, and I think may have had something to do with the ending of the ice age, so it shouldn't be that surprising that there would be an earthquake here. This is the 3rd in my memory, so it's not like it happens often, and I think it's been about the same with Anngie, unless there was something that was more in Canada or near the border, that she would have felt but didn't get all the way down to us. I saw the photo someone took of the lightning hitting the Statue of Liberty's torch, but there was no damage. There was really no damage from the earthquake. They showed one picture in the paper of people from a certain neighborhood of Newark NJ being evacuated, probably but there was no damage to their buildings. They said that the Northridge earthquake in CA was 700 times the strength of the one we had, which was a 4.8 compared to 6.7 for the Northridge, which of course doesn't really mean anything. I am glad you are still able to have your pre-prom party. That will certainly be fun.
I should really get moving to get things done today that I want to do. I have a busy weekend of errands, cleaning and shopping. I want to re-do my hair color also. I can't just say the roots now, because I never used the root touch up and I did my whole head back before Labor Day, so it has lasted more than 7 months, and still has very little gray in it. I want it to look good for when we go to Massachusetts next weekend.
We watched one episode of Gentleman in Moscow. It's was DH's idea to watch it. I did not love the book, and didn't finish it even though I tried 3 times. It didn't have enough going on for me, and the TV show really doesn't either. DH then said he was doing something on his computer then going to lay down in bed, so I took that as an opportunity to watch 1 more Virgin River episode. He wanted to watch Shogun. We watched one episode last weekend and I said that just wasn't for me. Then I realized that me watching that with him was like making him watch Virgin River with me, so I am just not doing it.

Very windy today and 57 for a high but it will not be as nice as the last 2 days with this horrible wind. Rain moving in tonight for us and then rainy tomorrow too.
Gareth---glad your eye appt. went well and he stretched your next appt. out a few extra months.
Carol---well glad your derma appt. went without anything new but my goodness that was a quick and odd response. Did the Dr. ask if you had any questions about anything?
Anngie---Thanks for asking about my sister. She is doing okay. I think this has been harder on her than we thought it would be. With him having been in the nursing home for over 2 years she does not have to get used of being alone but it is the finality of it. She had been to the ER earlier in the week with what they though was a heart attack but she checked out good. She has been having trouble with having such high potassium levels which I have never heard of before but she has to take medication to get it back down to more normal levels and then in a month or two it goes up again. She is also the sister on oxygen 24 hours a day. I though when we met up on Thursday she looked pretty tough but after an hour or two she seemed like her old self again. Sorry didn't mean to talk your ear of about her. Good that you did not have any earthquake damage near you.
Karen---glad your pre-prom party is still ago----have fun with that today. Well at least you don't have to decide about taking that platter or not to your new place. They probably won't see the mark on the floor from it in the pantry----hopefully. If it is a wood or woodlike floor maybe you can get one of those markers or filler to try to disguise the damage.
Robin---So sorry to hear about your BFF having cancer and even worse that she doesn't have anyone close by to help her. Like Karen said the one good point is hopefully with it being Stage 1 it can be nipped in the butt easily. Did she find it herself or did the Dr? Yes a lot of exciting news from New York yesterday but glad all is okay. I really think it is kind of cool (beings there was no damage) about the lightening hitting the Statue of Liberty's torch-----it's just like she had her torch up and protecting her people!!! I think there was something about LaGaurdia airport in the news a few days ago also, seems like it was closed for a few hours or the day, maybe because of weather? I came into the room so missed most of that.
Thanks about my heartburn issue all of you. As yesterday morning went on and although I didn't really have heartburn anymore I had a funny feeling where it had been it slowly disappeared. I was real careful what I ate yesterday and did not eat after 5 so heartburn free last night. I still really am not hungry though and that is just weird----its like I am scared to eat. I am sure that will change though----I like the scale saying I am 6 pounds lighter but that too will change I am sure.
Have a great weekend friends!!!

Karen, enjoy your party today with DGD getting ready for prom. Hope you get some pictures to share.
Robin, DH and I don't watch TV together anymore unless it's the news. DH watches a lot more TV though than I do. His interests are differnt than mine.
Pinky, your DS has been through a lot. I'm sure it helped a lot spending time with her sisters yesterday.
Anngie, glad you didn't feel the quake yesterday. I think that would've been scary.
Carol, good news on your derma appointment!
60Âş today. Pretty breezy though but still should be nice enough for our walk later. Rain and wind tomorrow so we won't be walking outdoors then.

Pinky, if your DS used to go to visit her DH regularly, like some spouses do, it can feel like more of a loss because she doesn't have that as something to do every day or so. I have not heard of people having high potassium, but I know that as people get older a lot of things regulate differently. For example, we always here we should drink a lot when we are sick. For older people that isn't true, as it flushes the sodium out of our body too easily, and having very low sodium is a real problem. Also, feeling cold is so much more common.
Gareth, I used to joke that it took me 30 years to learn that DH and I don't have to watch the same TV show. However, now he gets mad that he is always downstairs watching TV, and I am upstairs reading. He wants us to do something together, like watching TV. So, I have been trying to pick things that we can watch, and we usually do that on the weekends. We'll have a new season of Bridgerton to watch in May, after he gets out of the hospital, so that will be good for him.
It still looks like the weather will be good here for viewing the eclipse. We are just under 90% for viewing.

Robin, sorry about your friend. My mom got her first mammogram at 68 and a very small lump was found. She chose to have a mastectomy rather than a lumpectomy and radiation. This would have been 1990 and I think lumpectomies were relatively new. I remember watching a documentary in the early 80s and it mentioned lumpectomies in an off-hand way and said there were not recommended. Things change, don't they? I know several people who have done great with the lumpectomy and radiation.
Yes, the derm. did answer the questions I had. Mostly it was as we get older, we get spots and growths and generally they aren't anything to worry about and come to the office if something looks off or changes and grows. I have gone to this place for years. My doctor retired about 6 years ago so I haven't seen this doctor much. As I said they moved to a new building and we were talking about light treatment for psoriasis. He said that was an option but the light room hadn't been installed yet which I thought was really odd since they are dermatologists and probably have many patients with psoriasis and they've been in the new building for a couple of months.
Karen, glad your power wasn't off for a long time. I usually pile on the blankets and read on my Kindle.
We are on a fault line as is southern Oklahoma. I've only felt that one several years ago. Oklahoma gets quite a few, all small.
DH and I watch the news and Jeopardy together. Sometimes we have something on and we both have books and are reading more than watching. DH likes the Smithsonian channels and WW2 docs. I've been meaning to watch A Gentlemen in Moscow but keep forgetting about it. Also, We Were the Lucky Ones is on now. I'm not sure where and how many episodes there are.

Good morning. 36, clear, but rain moving in this afternoon, high of 52.
Robin, that picture of the lightning striking the Statue of Liberty is so cool!! Amazing that it doesn't do any damage. Before my DH passed away, there weren't many TV shows that we watched together, mostly the local news, and then the national news with the start of the pandemic. Good luck watching the eclipse, I think our chance of seeing it is 60%. I won't try, as I do not have the glasses.
Pinky, we too are expecting rain today. That is fine, as even with that wet snow last week, we could use a bit more moisture; at least our fire danger has gone away. Hahaha, I laughed out loud at your comment about not having to take the platter to the new apartment!!! I had not thought of that!! Thank you for reminding me, as DH bought one of those pencils to color in woodwork; when I cleaned out the linen closet, I almost threw it away but kept it just in case. Hmmm, that is weird, actually! With your medical history, do you think you should see your doctor about the acid reflex problem? Since it has affected your hunger, I wonder if it is something else that should be looked into.
Gareth, thanks, about the pre prom party. Haha, about getting pictures of yesterday, when it comes to my DD's, they take pictures, in fact, they overtake pictures!! It was a fun time. I am glad I turned down the invitation to go to dinner with them and a group DGD is going to the prom with and their parents. I just wasn't feeling like eating all that food, plus going out for dinner next Saturday. Yesterday here too was a beautiful day. I don't think it was breezy at all. The rain is moving in this afternoon.
Carol, I am happy to hear that as we get older, those spots and growths are nothing to worry about. I notice I get some spots, and I just thought it had to do with being out in the sun more, what with my job, and recesses. Good to know. Shockingly, Wednesday evening, with the power off, I read and finished a book! I think it was not a regular sized book, but I finished it. I was so happy. Now I have to make that effort and find another book to read, with hopefully actually reading it. I just hope it wasn't just because that was my only choice. Interesting that OK get earthquakes, and that you are on a fault line! Same here, that for the most part, DH and mine TV interests were different, so DH would watch all his shows in the evening in his room.
Kitchen is for the most part back to normal, I do have to take the garbage to the dumpster, unload the dishwasher, then I need to pack up all the leftover cupcakes, and cookies, to bring to the employee lounge tomorrow. One thing I love about the school is they are just like the fellow employees I worked with all those years at the hospital; bring leftovers to the employee breakroom, and it gets eaten...fast, lol!!! Then I need to go over my budget, as with the power out last week, I did not keep an eye on things like I normally do.

Karen, glad that everything worked out yesterday, I hope you post some pictures on our Facebook page, and then of Bennett and girlfriend when it's their prom. Not sure I would have chosen to tag along for dinner, would have really been OK, you could have always had a salad, if it was the amount of food that mattered. What was the book you read? Maybe we can give you ideas for something similar. Do you wear sunscreen when you are out with the kids? We do always get more brown spots, but I think that could help.
I've got some more straightening up to do, maybe some organizing about what I want to pack for next weekend's trip to Massachusetts. DS1 always goes to meet friends at Wrestlemania, so he was in Philadelphia for the weekend. DDIL and her parents took Maddie to buy her first bicycle, from the pics she sent me, which I think was kind of mean to DS. He is such an involved dad that he would have loved to be involved in that. As far as TV with DH, I guess I should be happy he wants to spend time with me. I would love to be able to just sit and read a book next to him while he is watching, but then he keeps talking and thinking that I am paying attention. Carol, with the dermatologist I think it's hard to tell whether something changed in shape, size or color. All these new things are just appearing, so how are we supposed to know?
I am disappointed that now it looks like it might be overcast tomorrow. The 60% viewing is not that you have a 60% chance of seeing the eclipse, it is that the moon will cover 60% of the sun. So, you will see it pass over, if the sky is clear, but it's not the same effect.
DS2 went to Denver for a bachelor party. Kind of silly to me, they left early Friday morning, but with the time change I guess they were there most of the day Friday, and they are already on the plane flying back. Love these flight trackers, but maybe not. Looks like the weather is not great when they fly over the Iowa/Illinois area.
Gareth, do you follow the Iowa girls basketball? All the talk is about Caitlin Clark. We are not basketball fans, but DH does like to watch the men's championship series. We don't watch the women, but I have seen that there are so many articles about her. Apparently also, as college athletes are allowed to earn money now, which I am not so sure I think is a great idea, she is one of the top earning college athletes.

Hi Pinky, have to go look at those prom pics, thanks for mentioning. Just looked at the pics so am editing. Karen, looks like such a great time, and Ruby looked great. Nice group of girls. Sometimes I see prom pics and they look like they are dressed up like Lolita. No so here, they look their age. Hope they all had a great time.

Karen, that was quite the spread you had. I see why the girls ordered off the children's menu when they went to dinner. Nice to see the girls with such lovely dresses. Here they wear such, short, skimpy dresses with plunging necklines.
Robin, you can't live in Ia without following Iowa girls basketball and Caitlan Clark. My family are basketball fans too besides football. Actually DH prefers basketball over football maybe because he played in HS. DH, DS and DGC used to always go to St Louis for March Madness. I follow basketball too like I do football. I just like to watch the last few minutes of a game. It has been exciting watching the Ia women and Caitlan. Like everyone else in Ia I'm just hoping they can win the championship tonight.
Gloomy day. 55Âş predicted. Rainy, windy and 44Âş now.

I think here prom is next week. They used to have on Mother's Day weekend which I didn't think was a good choice. I like seeing all the dresses. Yes, some are lower cut in the neckline that I would be comfortable with. Of course, my dad probably wouldn't have let me out of the house in some that I have seen.
DH does like to watch sports. We'll have them on in the living room, but if I want to watch something else he'll watch in the bedroom or sometimes, I'll be the one to go to the bedroom.
DDIL's surgery is Tuesday. We talked them to Friday night. She is ready for it since she has been in so much pain and hasn't been able to do much. They are leaving today trying to avoid eclipse traffic.
The guys were here Friday and took out the old bathtub. The plumber has to come and do something and couldn't come then so everyone will be here on Monday. I don't know how long it takes to put in a tub. Just looking forward to having it done.

Beautiful day today - and the snow is just about all gone!
Karen, no, actually, we get very, very few, if any, earthquakes - at lease that can be felt. I can remember 2 or 3 over the years. I loved looking at the pre-prom pictures! They were having such a good time getting ready - and I really like that shade of green! What a mess on the floor - nothing worse than broken pieces of glass.
Robin, it doesn’t seem this earthquake amounted to too much. Especially when compared to what happened in Taiwan. I’m sorry about your BFF. Maybe you’ll be able to help her in some way down the road. Gentleman in Moscow was one I thought to read at some point. Did you watch it on Netflix?
I don’t know how others feel, but if I watch a movie based on a book - but haven’t read the book - I’m tending not to read the book at all. I know there’s a big difference (almost always) between the two, but the movie becomes the spoiler, so to me, why read the book.
Pinky, glad to see your DS is “holding her own” as they say. Do you all meet at her house? Part of the issue might just be waiting until the 12th (?). Once that is behind her, she can do her best to put it all behind her. How was your heartburn today?
Carol, never would have thought that you are on a fault line!
I have (had) many of those dark spots over the years - chest area and back. They’re called seborrheic keratoses and always benign. Not to be confused with “liver spots”. Most of them are frozen off although they can come back in the same spot or another area. This is information from two dermatologists as my first doctor retired. Here’s the surprise (at least with our insurance) - they are so harmless insurance won’t cover the removal. I would have to pay out-of-pocket to have any more removed.
Gareth, we’re watching the girls game, now. We haven’t EVER watched girls BB like we have this time. It’s fun watching Caitlin Clark. She’s unbelievable.
I’m not sure about paid college players either. And these portals have been devastating to many colleges.
The solar eclipse in this area is at 96.6%.
We tend to watch most of the same shows. However, DH had one 2hr. show on Friday which I thought was terrible. I either read or watch Netflix on my iPad.
