APRIL 7 My goals for this 100 days are: π Track every BLTβοΈ πΆββοΈ Walk or do some other form of exercise to total 150 minutes per weekβοΈ π§Ή Clean or tidy or declutter something every dayβοΈ ποΈ Use a fountain pen daily or do something creative βοΈ π«π· Work on French either on Duo Lingo or online reading something in French βοΈ βοΈ Weigh every morning βοΈ <165>
I managed to get to bed and to sleep earlier last night but then, of course, was awake before six. Ah well, had a nice long soak in the tub last night, read a good book, wrote reviews for three books and posted them, and was successful in staying OP. Today's lunch will probably be a grain bowl with Mexican flavors and am looking forward to that. We talked to our daughter last night and hope to talk to our son tonight.
DUOLINGO has given me three free days. I use those days to play around on the app and will look for the speak option you mentioned, Karen, because when I speak on it most of the time it wants to steal my hearts for "not saying things right" - I've now learned to try saying it once correctly and if they want me to say it again hit "can't speak now" and that is that saving my hearts to play longer.
KAREN: One time my son and his now wife drove me to my sister's house to drop me off and my sister, knowing my son likes meat, made chili and was trying a new recipe. She misread the amount of peppers (chipotle?) to put in and put in a can, not a tbsp or small pepper. We could NOT eat it. We tried adding beer, cream, cheese, sour cream, etc...it went in the trash and my son took his then girlfriend out for pizza and to see some of the places he used to visit when a student in Iowa City. Spices can be tricky. I spent many years in California so earthquakes are not new to me. We have had a few here in Lebanon but not BIG ones so far.
Here's to a new week of this challenge and hoping we all have great success meeting our goals!

Good days! Heading into bed shortly. Made my step goal yesterday Didn't declutter Didn't sleep well Got outside Got my haircut instead of Mah Jongg at the yoga studio. The owner had a health scare and it was rescheduled so I shifted gears. She's ok though, thank goodness. I'm tired! Cathy are you using the free version of Duo? With the paid plan I don't worry about losing hearts or anything like that. It's < $7./mo and I'm glad I use this version. I find it much better than when I started for free. I love chili too! Once I went to a restaurant and told them to make my food spicy. Never again. I couldn't eat it. Better to go medium and add heat if needed because as you discovered, you can't remove it. More tomorrow. Waving!

APRIL 8 My goals for this 100 days are: π Track every BLTβοΈ πΆββοΈ Walk or do some other form of exercise to total 150 minutes per weekβοΈ π§Ή Clean or tidy or declutter something every dayβοΈ ποΈ Use a fountain pen daily or do something creative βοΈ π«π· Work on French either on Duo Lingo or online reading something in French βοΈ βοΈ Weigh every morning βοΈ <165> [day two]
Going to string together the OP days and since I have nothing that I have to do this week...outside the house...should be able to stay OP without temptations...right? We talked to our son and his family who are not over jet lag yet from the trip to Vietnam...will take a few more days as the time difference is twelve hours. I finished two books and need to write the reviews and post them then will start another book while reading and walking today. Lunch will be leftovers in a Mexican themed bowl with rice, beans, cabbage, salsa and a garlicky yogurt sauce/dressing.
KAREN: My sister decided NOT to pay as she gets sucked into playing when it is free for a few days. I find the same except this time I am feeling pressure to do other things so have not changed much. I do find some sections easier than others...this one on houses and what is in them is easier than those with a lot of numbers. I still have difficulty with the genders and what to use with them...is it a male noun and how to change things and then commands change what I just learned. It is...a challenge and I keep telling myself it is good for my brain even if I never go to France or use the language in real life. I am debating a haircut. It always grows faster in the back and it is getting thick back there and above my ears but NEVER on the top of my head so I look a bit like Bozo the clown but without the curls.

Cathy, your haircut dilemma/description made me laugh out loud. Mine's short too and needs attention ~ every 4 weeks. It gets chunky in the back in the occipital area and with coats and things with collars it gets pushed up & out and looks and feels awful. It's a tough decision but a necessary evil. I always feel so much better afterwards. Did not make my steps goal Slept > 7 hours Did not get outside Did a tiny decluttering Busy day but no daytime MJ. I got a lot done at home before our Eclipse Party - the 2 of us went to a local park on the water and many folks parked in a big lot and pulled out their chairs and glasses. Spotify had an Eclipse playlist and that was fun listening to songs about the sun & moon. I took some pics but it didn't compare to what my eyes were seeing. It was fun. I still had time to get dinner done before my evening MJ so I ate early. Now I'm up late and feeling hungry but I will wait til tomorrow. My 5 year shoulder f/u is tomorrow in NYC. It was Wednesday but they called today to see if we could change it and it's actually better for me. We'll take the train. I'm glad you're getting so much reading done! Waving to everyone!!

Nothing to report. Need to do more reading and write a review. Lunch will be a grain, veg, bean meal with fruit for dessert. I am not sure what will star in the meal but have spinach, zucchini, cabbage, carrots, and an eggplant to create with.

It's so gorgeous out today and really warm! I had to change my outfit before walking to the train and I took a light jacket but was still too warm! They called us to come even earlier today so we had to take an 11:55 train and hoped to get to the hospital by 1. There was so much traffic we were sitting in cab not moving much but as bad as it was we were only 15 minutes late for xrays and then early for our time to see the surgeon. All went well and we were out soon after! All good! We walked to Lexington to grab the bus to Grand Central and then took a 3:22 Far Rockaway train to Jamaica to see if we could pick up an earlier train to get us home, and we did! Made it with 1 minute to spare. Got home tired and hungry so walked around the corner to get dinner early. I'll cook tomorrow night. Did not make my steps yesterday No decluttering to speak of Got outside Did not sleep 7 hours I don't think but came close? A good report for tomorrow for sure!!!!

Called the beauty salon for an appointment and they are BUSY today - perhaps because Ramadan has ended and there are three days of feasting with families and friends and the women are ready to have their hair done. I hope it won't be horribly busy tomorrow!
I am looking forward to the Friday outing although my husband is worried that the carjacking-possible assassination that happened in the area and the funeral that is scheduled for Friday might impact the outing. I am staying positive that all will go well, though.
We have leftovers for lunch so will reheat those and my husband collected fresh fava beans from the field so we might have those for a side dish at lunch or dinner. They need to come out of the pods, boil a bit, and then have some garlic-lemon-olive oil put on them. Mounah will eat them with pita bread and I will have them without.
KAREN: Sorry about the traffic but glad you were able to go to both appointments successfully!

Great day yesterday! Got > 10 K steps!! No decluttering Got outside Slept at least 7 hours! 2 yoga Zooms today, some grocery items to be picked up, and I am making dinner. My husband will grill the chicken outside if this nice weather holds up. We thought it would rain today but it's nice. Showered and dressed late. Texted with both my kids. Updated my to-do list. All is well! Cathy, I hope your trip to the salon goes smoothly. We had a high profile funeral here recently and since it was a police officer, thousands of brothers in blue showed up for support and many streets were closed. I wasn't in that area that day but I know some folks who were. Prepare for the worst so if it's not too bad you'll be good! Waving to everyone!

The haircut went fine but the woman at the desk asked for 15 dollars. That is 5 dollars more than a month or two ago. I mentioned it, the owner was going to let me pay ten, I paid the 15 but my husband, when told, said they "cheated" me. Whatever. My husband is still stewing over the trip tomorrow, as are some of the women, but I am thinking positive and hoping all will go well. Will tell you how it goes next time I check in.
KAREN: I hope that we will be like ships passing in the night with us arriving at 10:30 at the guesthouse and the funeral starting at 1:30 and then while they are in the church somewhere in a nearby village, we will leave by or before 2:30pm and head home. π€

Good day yesterday! Enjoyed my yoga, got out, shopped, and made a nice dinner. Did all my puzzles and my Duo. They made some changes again to the site and I am trying to adjust to them. The books I got are really helping with the verb tenses. Almost made my step count Did not sleep 7 hours Got outside No formal decluttering but need to kick that up! Made my plans for my May visit to FL to see my daughter! And ran some dates by my son to visit in MA since my next few weekends have things here. My grandson has a birthday next week. He'll be 9 but I won't get to see him til after. Making plans for next month too since it's my DH's b'day. Cathy, I'm glad you went and got the haircut. I'm sorry they raised the price like that without letting you know ahead of time. How long had it been since you'd been there last to get it cut? Is $15. considered pricey there for a woman's haircut? Is it unisex there too? Even when it is there seems to be lower prices for men than women even for the women with the short hair. Years ago men left the barbers in favor of beauticians to cut their longer hair. Here it's not uncommon now for women to visit a barber. It's all mixed up. I had to take my grandson to a barber there in MA and was shocked at what they are charging now. Are you happy with the result? Is it the same stylist? Sometimes depending on the stylist's arrangement with the salon there prices can differ even within a same salon. And depending on what the client wants different heads call for different prices. So many variables! And are you expected to tip on top of the price? Owners too? Waving!!

Hi all! We got back in really late last night. What an experience! On the way out there we kept saying, even if the weather doesn't cooperate for the eclipse, the falls will be awe-inspiring. Were they ever! After two great blue-sky days on the 6th and 7th, the clouds rolled in for the 8th. It really wasn't looking good for the eclipse but, we set up the cooler and camp chairs anyway. We were soon settled in and hoping for a miracle, along with countless others who had made their way there for the experience. A roar went up from the crowd during a split-second thinning of the clouds. It was just enough to make out a white-hot crescent before being veiled again. Glasses on, glasses off. There were three more "blink-and-you'll-miss-it" glimpses, each one further on along on the path. And every time, the crowds went wild before heavier clouds cast their pall. Glasses on, glasses off. The loud cheers followed by abrupt silence was disorienting in a roller coaster way. What time is it?! What time is it?! Everyone was waiting with bated breath when unbelievably, and against all odds, a small hole opened in the sky and BOOM! The diamond ring appeared. And then, totality. The entire place erupted! We couldn't believe our good fortune and just like that, the hole in the sky collapsed, obscuring our view. Darkness fell quickly, triggering street and city lights to come on and there was a big drop in temperature. It was surreal. By around the three minute mark, I was seriously second-guessing my jacket choice. lol We talked with our "neighbors", swapping impressions and snacks while the light and relative warmth returned. I wondered about the family of four and the couple we had met days earlier that checked out that morning to drive to a better viewing area. We couldn't imagine doing that ourselves but, hoped they got lucky. Our experience wasn't textbook perfect but, we felt truly blessed with what we encountered. By the time we got back to our hotel room, the skies were trying to clear and by dinner, they were back to blue. Just wow!
Cathy I hope you trip goes smoothly tomorrow. It's a great idea to think positively about it. What's the expression about manifesting what we dwell on? Good on you! Hope DH isn't too stressed about it. Glad to hear you got your haircut ahead of your journey but, what a shame about the sticker shock.
Karen warmer weather is upon us! Except for Saturday of course but, wow the 10 day forecast is amazing for April! I bet you can't wait to see DD in May. So glad your plans are set. What are you planning for DH's birthday? I'm really happy you had a great outing for the eclipse too. There's one in Egypt in 6 years and I haven't yet seen the pyramids. You game? LOL! Glad you got in for the shoulder follow-up. Hope you got a great report!
GisΓ©lle I hope all is well with you and Abel. I threw a quarter in the falls for each of you gals. I hope you're enjoying some warmer temps up there. We drove by your neck of the woods on the way to and fro Niagara. Waving at you!

Hi all! Had a good day yesterday - ate right, activity, and GHGs. The scale is up from some indulgences on our trip so, I'll need to be spending some quality time with the treadmill now that I'm home. lol I wish I was one of those people that digs a hotel gym experience but, I'd much rather steal a quick nap when I can, while away. We did get in a good amount of steps though, on several days. I have a conference call with my brothers in a few minutes but, wanted to check in here first. It will be good to get back into my routine here at home and here on the 100. *waves* Wishing you all good health and safe travels! BTW, Total Eclipse 2027 Luxor, Egypt. Totality will be over 6 minutes, among the longest ever. It will be one for the ages! Um, we're talking about it. LOL!

We had fun yesterday and did manage to get lost a few times. The gathering was large, there was only one toilet so that was not nice, the food was good and conversation interesting. We dropped off Noeleen then Rosalie drove home on the coast road stopping at a few shops to look at clothes and she found a royal blue satin long top that she bought. We had an SF NF Iced Latte before heading up the hill where she dropped me off. We will do something next week but not sure what.
PAM: Luxor, Egypt might be doable in 2027 for me. I wonder if my daughter would be interested in going though she saw 94% eclipse in Missouri this year. Glad you had fun and how marvelous that the clouds parted at the perfect time while you were watching at Niagara Falls.
KAREN: The last time I was at the beauty salon was a couple months ago. He does a nice cut and the salon only serves women. My husband goes to a barber who does not cut women's hair. I have never tipped the owner who cuts my hair but do tip the young man who washed my hair and gives my head a bit of a massage. The owner has three people in training, a woman that may help out and does manicures and I don't know who the woman taking the money was but have seen her there before. Elie was going to let me pay ten dollars, I think, but I said that if the price had gone up...I'd pay it. My husband thinks the woman charged more because I am "foreign".
GisΓ©lle: Hope all is well with you and your family!

Activity/exercise - Y Tracked - Y GHGs - Y We've got some really high winds today. Just wow! I had to hit the snooze button a few times this morning. I AM STILL drinking coffee. lol I finally got caught up with the laundry and finished watering all the plants yesterday. We spent a little time on the new patio, sweeping things up and planning next steps for the warmer weather. I put out the hummingbird feeder just in case there are any scouts in the area. Our house still needs a good dust-n-vac after being away so, that's my next move. We're meeting friends for dinner at one of their local favs. It's cozy and casual which will perfect after all the high flying. Hope everyone has a great weekend! Cathy so glad you had fun at the gathering. Your latte on the hill sounds like a nice way to cap off the day's outing. It would be wonderful if you and DD could make the journey to Egypt for the 27' total eclipse. There's really nothing like it. It seems a long way off but, I really hope we can make it happen. We'd love to see the pyramids first, before moving onto Luxor. Gosh, I better start saving NOW! lol Waves to GisΓ©lle and Karen - hope all is well!
