Good morning. 45, cloudy, but clearing is expected, high of 63.
Pinky, hello! You must be really busy, but what is new, right?
Robin, how fun to have the trip to Massachusetts to look forward to! As for watching TV with DH, I was a bit surprised at how much I had sat through, just because DH was watching something, so I realized afterwards how much time I wasted watching things that really did not interest me; this was during the weekends, not at night. I am sure there were girls at the prom that had the dresses on that I would not be caught dead wearing. Remember my DGD has Aspergers, and has a weight issue, so she would not wear something like that. And her friends are very diverse. Did you see the girl with the white paint on her face? Interesting to say the least.
Gareth, the pre party started at noon, so I felt they needed something to munch on while the prom girl was getting ready, so of course once I started getting things, one thing led to another. Most of the sweets have been put in the freezer, the sliders were a big hit. I loved how easy they were to micro. They might have ordered off the children's menu because they were probably getting nervous by then. Here the girls wear the other kind of dresses too, I guess it all has to do with personalities, and weight.
Carol, proms here are spread out throughout April and I think the beginning of May. We have quite a few high schools in GB, then the surrounding suburbs with their high's schools, it can get crazy, especially with the students going out for dinner first, they tend to take over some of the more popular restaurants/sports bars. I can't imagine Mother's Day being a good time for a prom. Good luck to DDIL about her surgery tomorrow. And good luck to you and your DH during your tub redo.
Anngie, isn't that wonderful, having all that snow gone? I love this time of the year, with the sun so much warmer than during the winter. I cannot imagine having an earthquake. We deal with so much other kind of weather events, I just don't think that would be fair to have that too, lol. Yes, the platter sure made a mess. I am sure I have a tiny piece of glass in my foot, but there is no way to find it, so I am just ignoring it. Bigger fish to fry in my life right now. I am of the same mind about seeing a movie before you read the book. I love reading the book first, then seeing the movie, as it seems neat to see the book come to life; that is the experience I had when I was a teen with Gone with the Wind. But I won't read a book if I see the movie first.
Marsha, hello. Did you get much rain over by you, late yesterday? It took a long time for it to finally start here.
Not sleeping well lately. Woke up at 4:45 this morning and could not get back to sleep, so I gave up at 5:15 and got up. Way too much on my mind. Now getting into April I am starting to panic, so much to do. I told the girls yesterday that the big items they want from my apartment, like DH's bed is going to DGD Lillian, for example, they can come and get any time. I hope they act on that, as it will be nice to free up space here, then I can clean that area early. The management company here snail mailed me the list of everything I have to do, which basically comes down to leaving the apartment in brand new condition!! It will be interesting to see how this 70-year-old woman does all they want done. They also require me to hire a professional carpet cleaner. DD2 threw a fit Saturday when I told them that, she is insisting she will come in with a shampooer and do it. I really feel like I am now losing control of the time I have left to get this all done. I feel like I am forgetting something.

Karen, I didn't realize your pre prom party started that early. Hopefully you'll hear soon about the new apartment so that'll at least take one thing off your mind. How would they know how you clean the carpet professionally or not as long as it's done or do they require a receipt?
Carol, we were lucky when our bathtub was relaced they were able to do the plumbing too so it was all done in a day. Now if only the painting could've only been in a day too.
Guess I'm the opposite of everyone else. I love reading the book after seeing a good movie because the book is always better and has more detail. Sometimes even a different ending which always shocks me.
My MRI is this afternoon. I so hope a shot can be scheduled soon after with no problem with insurance. I so hope too that then a shot helps.

Karen, you should take a look at your lease to see if it said anything about cleaning the carpet in the lease. Sometimes it also says that the landlord is responsible for painting every so many years, so if you have been there longer than that, and it was never painted, certainly don't paint. I know they don't like when there are holes left in the walls from hanging pictures, but those are easy to plug. When DS1 moved out of his first NYC apartment, it had just been renovated before they moved in. Big mistake giving young men a stainless steel refrigerator, what a mess that became. Don't think they ever cleaned it when they were there. The bathroom was marble, and there was a shelf by the window that they left their shampoo and soaps on, and boy was that awful! I do remember their college townhouse. When that was emptied out, good thing we didn't clean the carpet. The carpet was off white, and the edges in particular were gray from dust. They lived there for 3 years, so what do you expect. I was wondering about those chicken sliders. I sometimes buy the burgers, but then I think DH decided that the rolls never come out so great, so I have a few in the freezer, but not going to buy them any more. I do hope you hear about the apartment soon!
Gareth, good luck with the MRI. I can't remember if this was for your neck, or what? DH was describing an MRI to me, I have never had one, but I think I would have to be knocked out if I did.
Carol, good luck to DDIL. Where is she having the surgery? I can't help you with the tub. I don't think the tub itself will take long to install, but you probably would have to wait a few days to use it to make sure the seals are all dried.
Anngie, if it doesn't cloud over, you will get a great view of the eclipse. Pretty close to 100%. I guess I didn't think straight about that, knowing it had to go from Buffalo to Burlington VT and Maine, the cities they are saying it would be 100%. I don't think I would read a book after I saw the movie. I know it wouldn't make sense to make a movie that includes everything in a book because it would be a pretty long movie, so a lot has to be cut out. I don't want to watch the movie then see what they added in. I loved the book The Martian, but know they cut out some of my favorite parts when they tried to fit in the movie. I just finished watching the last episode of Virgin River. It is really so different from the series of books, but I enjoyed watching anyway. Now I want to watch Sullivan's Crossing, and DH has to figure out what that is on because I can't.
Time to get moving and into work. I want to go back to having salads with chicken for lunch. I bought the Purdue short cuts, which aren't great but easy to use. They cut the size of the package from 9 ounces to 8. I used to have it for 3 salads, but now I will only do 2, a little more chicken, but I am not going to divide that into 3.

It is 36 degrees and going to 44 for the day. Still possibility of some showers today. It was a rainy wet weekend but the rain really didn't amount to that much so it is still dry. It would rain every once in awhile like for a few minutes and just sort of mist the rest of the time.
Karen----Keeping my fingers crossed you hear the official yes on the new apartment today.
Gareth----Good luck with the MRI today and getting scheduled for that shot ASAP.
Robin---MRI's are not bad at all and actually I am claustrophobic. I just shot my eyes and rest and think about something nice or relaxing. They will play music if you wish to relax you.
Hi to all!!

Is anyone watching the eclipse today? One of my coworkers went to Texas to see it. Her husband is in an astronomy club so this is their “thing”. I have the glasses and will check it out but it’s supposed to peak here at 2:09 and I have someone coming for a meeting at 2:00. I’ll probably take a quick glance up when I go greet him.
Karen – I saw the pictures from the pre-prom party. The girls all looked lovely and it looked like everyone had fun. Not a lot of rain here. Maybe it would make sense to ask your landlord what they will charge you if they have to clean the carpets and see if it is more than hiring someone.
Robin – the Northridge earthquake that you mentioned in your Saturday post was the one that made my parents decide to move away from there and to AZ. The mall that was destroyed in that quake was the one we used to shop in. Sorry about your bff but sounds like they got it as early as possible. Will she have any treatment after the lumpectomy? Your dh watches Bridgerton? I think my dh would stab himself in the eye before watching that! We watch the police procedurals together and some sci fi.
Carol – maybe the doc is having trouble getting the equipment for the light room. The supply chain issues that originated during covid are much better but there are still issues.
Aren’t students who play college sports and get tuition scholarships technically already being paid?
When dh watches shows I don’t like I usually read. He talks to me like he thinks I’m watching and I treat it like he’s talking to himself.
Gareth- good luck with the MRI
I quit yet another book - I think that makes 4. I got The Stand by Stephen King and started that last night and so far it has grabbed me. But it's over 1300 pages so either this will keep me busy and happy for a long time or I will be angry that it's going on and on and on but I need to know what happens.

It’s beautiful here today, and supposed to be in the high 60’s. Tomorrow as well and then rain the rest of the week. Despite the sunshine, we do have a few thin clouds but according to the meteorologists it shouldn’t make too much of a difference, but there will be some. I’ll let you know!
Karen, here’s hoping you hear today! I can’t believe they expect you to hire a professional to clean the carpets! Like Gareth said, how can they tell unless they ask for a receipt. I would think, like repainting the place, that would be their responsibility. Now I wonder if this will be done in the new place!?
Gareth, good luck on the MRI!
I thank God everyday that I was able to have that MRI four years ago that found that little cyst in my lower back. I was very lucky insurance covered it. That little cyst was pressing on nerves and it was, at times, excruciating. I often wonder how I would be today, taking pain meds, if I didn’t have the MRI and had it removed. The MRI never bothered me but I’m not claustrophobic. Nor do I know what is done if someone is. They are loud, though, so they give you ear plugs.
Robin, LOL I remember the condition of DS’s townhouses too! I remember walking in and then turned around and walked out. I left it up to them to clean it (I think there were six of them) I didn’t even know where to begin. I can’t even imagine who thought putting off white carpet in a college townhouse was a good idea!
Marsha, I’ll be taking periodic glances as I never got glasses. I’m really only interested in the final total eclipse. I’m not sure I know what you mean - getting an athletic scholarship is different from being paid for endorsements, etc. Some colleges can’t even give out athletic scholarships (however it’s made up in other ways).
Hi Carol & Pinky!

Marsha, when we have an earthquake, the buildings will shake for a few seconds, a few minutes at most, and no one thinks earthquake, they all thing that they oil burner is blowing up or there was a bad accident outside. Saturday Night Live did something funny about it during Weekend update. I watched it on Youtube. I try to do the same to my DH when he starts talking to me, but he actually expects me to answer. I am a bit surprised that he like Bridgerton, but he likes that kind of history, so there is that. As far as my friend goes, I think she is going to have radiation afterwards. As far as the athletes go, something started a few years ago where the student athletes could make money off the use of their name or likeness. The schools were making a lot of money off this kind of thing, like selling jerseys, but the students got none of it, which isn't really fair either. Caitlin Clark has supposedly made $3 million. Now that I am not sure is how much she should get, but a female athlete, even if she plays professionally, isn't going to make the kind of money that a male basketball player who goes pro will make, that's for sure.
Pinky, so far I haven't had to get an MRI, but if I do, the music, plus maybe a xanax, will probably do it for me.
So far, the sun is still shining, so keeping our fingers crossed for the eclipse.

Anngie, for a change it took me so long to end up posting what I was writing that you posted. I think you should be very careful, even at a quick glance. They are warning people about that. Our secretary got glasses from the Welcome Center that is on the expressway. DH knew they were giving them out, but I knew he wasn't going to drive out there. She doesn't live far, and they were giving everyone 2 pairs for free. They have it much further out than we live because they cater more to the people who go to vacation in the Hamptons or the North Fork. Good thing you did get that MRI, and get that taken care of before it got any larger. As far as the townhouse, that was when DS1 was down in Atlanta. I think they may not have expected the fact that the students coming down from NY would think that the rent was so little for the nicer places that they wouldn't mind paying that. If I recall, it was similar to what we paid for dorm housing. When DS2 was lived in Ithaca, he lived in the frat house his sophomore year, and boy was that disgusting. Then he lived in the old houses that they converted to apartments, and they certainly were nothing to write home about, and I didn't end up moving him in or out of those. He was much more independent than DS1.

I thought we had it coordinated that the plumber would be here right after the guys got the tub out, apparently not. The plumber is supposed to come this afternoon so the tub won't be installed until tomorrow sometime. There was a lot of dust from the tub removal. I tried to get a lot of it up, but I had to take an allergy pill. I have several things going on tomorrow so DH gets to sit around while all the work is going on. When we had the tub reglazed several years ago, I asked if we needed to let it set for a day or 2 and the guy said no, we could use it right away. The guy who did it was a sub-contractor. He just did it and left and I think the contractor we asked was wrong because it wasn't long at all before it started peeling.
I'm not sure when the eclipse will happen here. Our local noon news said they would start covering it then and stay on until totality. I imagine we will be watching that. It is partly cloudy here. If we don't have totality, the college in Arkansas we went to is live streaming it so we can watch that.
I'm one that likes to read the book before watching the movie, but sometimes I will reverse it. Jaws and The Godfather are 2 movies which I think are much better than the book. DH hates the John Wayne movie, The Quiet Man because it is so different from the book. The mini-series of Station 11 is much different than the book but is good in its own way, but I do like the book better.
Anngie, I'm like you. I thank God I had a backache and had a X-ray and then a MRI to find & confirm the pancreatic cyst I have. MRIs don't bother me either. I keep my eyes closed and try to listen to the music.
Karen, take pictures of your apartment after you empty and clean it. You don't want them to try to charge you for something you did right. I'm sorry you are having trouble sleeping. You have had a lot going on.
When we talked to DS and DDIL Friday, they didn't know what time the surgery was scheduled. They had to be at the hospital very early. The surgery is at one of the big hospitals in Houston, not sure which one.

Clouds didn't completely go away so we didn't have totality, but it was close, maybe 85%. It definitely got darker and cooler. Our neighbors with all the kids were out, too. I didn't see any more neighbors though. We've been watching the CBS coverage so saw several places in Texas and Arkansas that were totally covered.
I got mixed up. DDIL's surgery is tomorrow. They were planning to go up the day before but changed that when they realized the eclipse was on Monday. In my mind the surgery was the day after they got to Houston. Senior moment, I guess.

Well, the eclipse was so-so as it started to cloud in a little, but not bad (you couldn’t look at it) but half way through it clouded in even more. At the total eclipse you could see half of the moon covering the sun with just an ever so slight line of the sun around that half. It didn’t get dark, very similar to a cloudy, dreary day. Pretty neat what I could see.
Carol, my thoughts and prayers are with your DS & DDIL. It will be so nice for everyone when she starts to feel better. I would imagine she will be free from pain at some point in time. I hope so. (I had an X-ray too but it didn’t show up in that!)
Robin, I was thinking about what you mentioned the other day about Maddie getting her new bicycle and the fact that DS wouldn’t be with her. I know what you mean. Hands on dads want to be a part of everything. I remember when DGS1 was expected, we offered to buy the crib but DS1 said that was something he wanted to buy. Fair enough. He was good about it, too. We ended up buying a matching chest of drawers. However, if your DS isn’t bothered by it, there’s not much to say or do. (this all goes back to DDILs and their side of the family)

The clouds weren't enough to block anything here. We only saw a tiny crescent. It was definitely darker out, but not like nighttime. What was interesting was that they must have shifted the landing pattern into JFK because there were a lot more planes flying overhead than we ever have, although we do have a lot. We were out for about 20 minutes watching. I was joking about whether I should save my glasses for the next time, which won't be until I am 90.
Anngie, I know that DDIL was not very happy about DS being away for the weekend. Maddie has a lot of activities on the weekend, and rather than leaving Jordi home to nap, she had to bring her along. Plus, Jordi is teething, so was up very early and had cranky periods, although she seemed really happy when I saw her.
