People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself âEnough is enough and Iâm getting in shape!â On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.

We got an e-mail from Texas Roadhouse about early dining specials from 3-5 so will go early. Hope it wonât be too crowded being a weeknight. Thatâs all we are planning on doing for our anniversary.
Yesterday Fred was very surprised as guess since Rosie decided he was her protector she actually went up to him to be petted. Should have seen the smile on his face! He was certainly a very happy person and now except when I take her out first thing she wonât move away from the gate until heâs in the yard with us! Took six weeks but like we both said baby steps.

Happy Eclipse Day! And to Sandy and Fred Happy Anniversary. đ
After dinner last night the sun came out and it turned into a lovely day. It should be clear today for the eclipse. Nathan and I took a long walk to and through the park. I have a breakfast casserole in the oven but the guys are still sleeping.
For Brennaâs bridal shower next month I bought the baking set from their registry. Itâs sheet pans, cake and loaf pans. I want to include some of my favorite recipes, hand written. I canât think of any other way to give them other than recipe cards. When Kinkos was still around they could bind them into a book. Iâd appreciate any ideas.

Good morning. It is so beautiful out this morning. It's been about 6 weeks since I had my left reverse total shoulder replacement surgery. Boy is that a mouthful! I seem to be recovering very well. I'm able to use an arm more and more with little to no pain.
Trying to raise it does cause pulling and pain a bit pretty much the pain I've had for 3 years. That should be short-lived and as long as I do my exercises so that I don't get scar tissue that creates long-term problems I should be in good shape.
As I've written on here before I really love the morning walks. I really love it especially when there are different kinds of birds down at the lake. This morning Dash got to chase a couple of ducks so he was very happy.
Sandy I really love hearing the stories about Rosie and that is so sweet that she came up the Fred and and that it made him so happy.
Happy anniversary.

Oh my, another day to figure out how to fill a day. Sewing, laundry, walk, have two Forsythia plants to set out, leaves to rake out of flower beds, I noticed yesterday my Blue Bells are in bloom although not to heartily as the needed more rain. Bryon said they would try to get the tree on the ground cleaned up this next weekend, itâs to be in the 70âs. Is also going to cut another dead tree. But there is also another dead tree there also but he didnât seem interested is cutting it now. Not sure I will find any mushrooms in my yard this spring as that is where the fallen tree is and with them trampling around there may disturb everything.
Less eating today to see if I can redeem myself some before tomorrow. Also need to schedule blood donation for this Friday.
Everyone have a great day.

Ruth that floor plan is exactly like our last camper. It was the smallest one we owned but traveled many wonderful places. Itâs just perfect.

Ruth. Have lots of good trips in that camper.
Things I must do in the next hour before bridge. I am so good at not getting anything done lately and falling behind sets off the tremor which then makes it harder to do anything. I have become lazy.

Greetings:
Joan, Tea Time Magazine is the absolute first, last and best authority on tea parties. My library subscribes to it electronically and I've checked out a few copies. It's such an elegant and fun publication. There are internet sites which have a lot of info. You do want to do things "right". One of the sites said to flatten the bread, cut off the edges, spread the filling to the very edges which is a big deal in tea and then cut the edges off. I did it easier. Spread the filling, put the top on, smashed the sandwich between two cutting boards and then cut off the edges. I got 6 bite-size sandwiches from each. The sandwiches are to be no more than 3 bites!
The ham sandwiches I made were my recipe. I bought the ham from Costco and minced it. Cheddar cheese is generally used, also minced. I used gruyere because i really like it. Then the "binder" was miracle whip (mayo is fine), a little Greek yogurt for tang, a tablespoon or so of fresh lemon juice, 2-3 table spoons of honey mustard. You can use whatever mustard you like. Not everyone likes dijon so I didn't go that way. Then did mince the cheese so it was about the same size as the ham pieces. I added minced chives for a little color and some pickle relish. I let it drip through a strainer so it wouldn't make the bread mushy. I did see a tip somewhere that if you have a jucier filling to put a thin coat of butter on the bread to keep the filling from going through. I did it for a couple, then my husband, who was helping said he didn't think I needed it. So, stopped that. I think that was all. Then put on a slice of bread, added a top, smashed and cut.
Do the sandwiches the same day as your tea. They are best fresh. In the salmon ones I put parsley.
One of the cautions I read was not to have big pieces of anything in the filling. You don't want anything falling out. So, that was the reason i minced everything and used miracle whip and Greek yogurt to bind it. In the salmon I also minced cucumber. An English cucumber since the skin can be used and adds a bit of color. Anyway, someone else made sandwihes with filling that didn't go to the edge. They weren't as good, strangely enough. Also, someone else sliced cucumbers and "stuck" them to the bread with either mayo or miracle whip. They didn't hold and the cucumber slices were falling out. So, I thought that was good advice.
It was fun. I kind of wish I'd signed up for scones as I use a mix from a high tea place for my scones anymore and they are just delicious. Have fun with your party and tell us about it!

Sandy, Happy Anniversary!
I think we have 60% or so coverage, and it's actually right about now. We don't have glasses, so we're just looking out the window and seeing that it's getting slightly darker. We have beautiful blue skies. I hope that people in the total area have some clearing. I read about cloud cover in some areas.
Ruth,, the trailer looks like fun. How nice the dealer didn't take the offer. He'll probably find someone who will.
I saw the chiro this morning. My neck now feels "normal" and I can turn it. I couldn't turn it for so long and it had sharp pains if I twisted it even a bit. This is so much better.
Shragae, glad to hear you are recovering so well from your surgery. I suspect that your prep work has paid off.
Do you ever think about how much time it takes you to actually perform a task? Earlier this morning I needed to wash up a collection of pots and pans and things that don't go in the dishwasher and get them done. I wanted to listen to a WW thing and almost didn't start the dishes. Then I thought, well, I'll just start and then set the timer for when to quit and sign on. I was amazed. I finished the dishes before the timer went off. There are times when I think I have a good sense of time for something particular and then others which I clearly don't.
It's getting darker outside the window! That's our excitement! Of course, I go to the ophthalmologist in about an hour and I suppose that could be exciting. The drive will certainly be.

The eclipse was beautiful and interesting. We had 94% coverage of the sun by the moon and it was semi-dark but the trees still cast a shadow. The interesting thing was the upset noisy birds and our cat was so stressed out she cried at the screen door. Our peek was 2:04 and at 2:57 itâs still happening but sunnier now. Through the glasses I can still see the moon covering part. Donâs planting garden. At least radishes, lettuce, spinach and scallions. Hopefully an eclipse garden is the best one.
Vicki I hope your viewing was awesome and you and yours had a good time.

Neat experience although it wasnât total still interesting. Was kinda ahead of the timetable set for Iowa. Only a tiny dot left to disappear and full sun again. Noticed no strange reactions here. At the very beginning I had to step out on the front deck because of the overhang on house but as sun moved I could stand inside the front door and look up. Sky did darken a bit but never dark. Temperature did cool a bit as well. Glad I bought the glasses as I will not be here to see the next one. Covered mostly except a sliver of fingernail on upper left hand side. I thought about working out side but decided to be safe and wait until it was over. Got my walk in this morning and put the little fence around the blue bells so they wonât get trampled.

Goodness, I have no idea where my afternoon post went. Anyway, Mike got home at 7. He got the Wolf Pup and has it stored at their office until he can take it up to Old Town. He is not a person who likes to camp. He got it mainly so he has a place to stay when he is working. They are still working on the 12 ft by 24 ft utility building. Once they start the house I will go up there for a few days with him. They do have water and electricity now, which is another reason to get the camper rather than stay in an expensive hotel.
We did not notice anything here with the eclipse. It was a little cloudy out. We did not notice it getting any darker and we were in a room with lots of windows. At yoga tonight the people that did get to see it said it was like a crescent moon. My cousin Linda Vadnais from Wisconsin posted some nice pictures of the eclipse on Facebook. If you are my FB friend check them out.

I won at bridge today by a lot. I finally had cards so came in first last mTuesday and today and won a total of $10.
The info for the next season at the dinner theater came today. I am a bit disappointed but only have to pick 5 shows to get the season holder price . That saves $20 a show. The concerts went up and I get no discount on them. None that I especially care for so wonât buy any. I like to have one each month so that I have something to look forward to. But I am picking show thru July 2025. I will make my decision in the morning and get it in tomorrowâs mail. During season there will be the concerts at the clubhouse too. Those cost about half of what I spend for the dinner theater but no food and a mile drive. I wonât know those until about October. I think if I buy shows on Sundays and my,holidays I wonât mind the drive as much. It is a long drive but I go to the cemetery then, too. I just hate long drives with heavy traffic.

Hey ladies. Late to the party tonight.
Sharon, an idea for your recipes. Look on Amazon at the various journals. You can get a lined paged one that will make it easier for you to handwrite your personal recipes for her. Another thought is to get some nice paper and put them together with pretty colored ribbon. Make a cover with a small water color painting. I know you're artistic and can do this. Something special.
Karen, thanks for the info from your tea. I'll see if I can find Tea Time Magazine. My partner in crime for the event which isn't until June 14th used to own a tea house and has done catering for years, so I'm sure she'll have plenty of ideas too. She and I did all the food last year for the first dance and this year we want to take it up a notch.
We couldn't see anything here as we had rain and heavy cloud cover. It didn't even get dark. Was supposed to be 87%, but didn't happen.
Wishing everyone a great Tuesday. Night
