We eat garlic almost every day. We use a mortar and pestle to pound it finely using some salt to help crush it. It goes into hummus, sauces, garlic...so many things. I have grated it, used a knife on it, pulsed in a machine...love the stuff. There is a garlic-salt-lemon-olive oil paste they make for condiment on chicken and meat and to be used like mayonnaise in sandwiches...LOVE garlic but do avoid eating it if I'm going to be with people...if I remember, that is.

I hadn't really realized the potential health benefits of garlic before this. I was surprised by the info in the second article that it doesn't take a lot of garlic (a clove or two) for the benefits. I was also surprised by the topical uses of garlic.
Even so, I don't think I'm likely to start eating more.
I like the flavor and use it in recipes that call for it, but not beyond that.

Do I like garlic? Love describes it better. I've been eating it in and on all sorts of things ever since I was a child. I have a gadget (I think I mentioned it a few years ago) that slices the clove into almost paper-thinness. I love it! I use garlic liberally in tomato sauce (along with as much basil as possible). Yes, I was aware of its health benefits, but never really cared about that. I looked at the "benefits" as merely an added reason to use it. I use it for its flavor. So, although it has health benefits, no, I don't take them into consideration. jasimons, Jan, thank you for the links! I've already copied them into my files (I already had a file titled simply "Garlic" so I added the articles there).

I have known that garlic has health benefits. If you eat a enough, you will smell so bad that no one will come close enough to you that you can catch anything.LOL. I know that is supposed to be good for high blood pressure.
DH used to grow fresh garlic, it takes it a long time in the ground to mature. Now, I just buy it at the store, but I try to buy fresh whenever possible. I use it in the tomato sauce & in lots of soups, stews, etc. Since I have lived with a family of Italians for the last 60 yrs, I have learned to use garlic often.
I read the article about how to prepare the garlic, I like the idea of putting it in a zippy & mashing it flat. I also had never heard of letting the garlic set for a few minutes before adding it to the recipe.
