APRIL 14 My goals for this 100 days are: 📝 Track every BLT ✔️ [not yesterday BUT definitely today!] 🚶♀️ Walk or do some other form of exercise to total 150 minutes per week✔️❔ 🧹 Clean or tidy or declutter something every day✔️ 🖋️ Use a fountain pen daily or do something creative ✔️ 🇫🇷 Work on French either on Duo Lingo or online reading something in French ✔️ ⚖️ Weigh every morning ✔️ <169.6>
Back on track again this morning after the eye opening weigh-in this morning. No more fiddle-faddle and back on program I go. Every BLT will be recorded and two meals are finished and tracked already today. Now, to get walking again!
The embassy did send out an email for the first time in awhile. Told people to stay informed by listening to the news, not travel to the borders of the country, and be safe. Nothing really new. I sent the email to our children and my brother-in-law in Texas had received it before I had here in Lebanon. Flights were canceled to the Beirut airport overnight but four were scheduled to arrive today. Haven't heard anything new on that.
We talked to our daughter last night and heard about the unpacking of boxes stored in the garage, setting up the kitchen, and that they will be receiving the piano and other things in storage - that will happen on Wednesday. I think they also plan to buy new bedroom and living room furniture so their house will be nice and new for them to begin living in.
PAM: I mentioned the eclipse in Egypt to my daughter and she said it was great experiencing what they did at 94% eclipse in Missouri BUT she didn't think it would be worth the trip to go to Egypt. We will see.
KAREN: Living in this region for so many years has been interesting. I don't understand why human beings can't learn from the past and avoid wars but...it seems humans either don't learn or the reasons for fighting never go away. I saw some of the news footage and really do with things were different. That said...I am curious about Mah Jongg and what the card has to do with it...do you play through the library or???
Gisélle - hope you are having fun wherever you are! I have forgotten but am guessing you are traveling again

exercise/activity - about half of what was planned tracked GHGs
Hi all! After that insane windstorm yesterday, we've got a beautiful sunny day on tap and a high of 74. Pat wants to power-wash the patio today before we uncover and set things up. I'll be happy if we can be sitting out there by the end of the day. Fingers crossed. Things take us longer to accomplish these days and I have a few chores to scratch off my list first. Cathy it's a shame that in 2024 there's still so much tension in the Middle East. I suppose it will always be so. Prayers that you and those you care for there, continue to stay safe. Your daughter's new place sounds nice. I hope they enjoy living there for many years. As to the eclipse, the good news is that she's young enough to still be around when it returns to the states in 20 years. The difference between 94% and totality is literally night and day I started doing a little digging on a Cairo/Luxor trip and it's no small thing, on ANY level. If we can pull it off, my brothers and their wives would make the journey with us. Nice to dream about anyway. WTG on your reset! Karen glad you're back safe from your weekend travels. I could feel your excitement for the Mah Jongg jump right off the screen. Congrats on killing it! I don't quite understand the card thing either. Do tell. I hope DH gets the boat in and you both enjoy this stretch of good weather. Our boat will sit in dry-dock a bit longer. It doesn't go in until May 2nd this year. Gisélle you are missed! Wishing you and Abel a good week ahead. *waves*

Well my Gurls!!! I have been on a whirlwind since I last posted. I had an amazing time with my son and his family while we were in NC. Of course, I made friends with the gym in my hotel the first night. We found a few of go-to-on-the-road restaurants near our hotel so that was easy enough to navigate. The family and their guests enjoyed the ton of cookies that I baked which was rewarding to see in real time. Abel left us on Thursday to see his grandchildren in GA and he brought them their cookies. The Saturday Brunch Anniversary Celebration/Baby Shower was awesome. My son handled all of the planning (for the first time), venue, catering, music etc. My DIL had a maternity photo-shoot and they placed 5x7 photos on easels as part of the center pieces on the tables. There were about 50 of us there from all over. My DIL’s mom prepared a nice meal for the after party back at the house. Abel returned to Charlotte on Sunday. By Monday we were headed home but we had no view of the eclipse, at all. Nothing but clouds all the way home. Through it all, we thought we had left home with an attack of allergies but as it turned out, for me at least, I had the mother of all Sinus infections. I don’t know how I made it through with all of that but I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. I was just happy that it wasn’t anything worse that could have been spread to anyone. I’ve still been able to keep up with my steps. Today was the last day of my StepBet and I completed it! 86 people dropped out which increases the pot for the rest of us who successfully completed the 6 week challenge.
Today is the first day that I’m feeling human. I finally went to my Primary Care Physician who put me on antibiotics for the infection. Abel sees his ENT tomorrow who will probably do the same for him. Hopefully I can keep it rolling now. I loved reading about what you all have been up to! Thank you for the waves and the thoughtfulness.
Cathy we didn’t feel the earthquake this time. When we lived near City Island in the Noth East Bronx, it felt like the world was ending.. 🥴 Thanks for the Duo extras 👍🏽 I’m convinced that I can’t do more than one thing at a time anymore. I’m using my To-Do list to check off each night. Sometimes I could swear that I had completed a task when all I really did was think about doing it. 😆 I’m praying that all remains calm where you are. It sounds like you’ve had a wonderful time with your DH and friends, the last couple of days. Sideboard, Abe’s LadyBarber trims my hair from time to time. She’s good at it too! She charges him $15. I think she charges me $20. I haven’t been there in a while.
Karen you’ve been really ramping it up! Over 10,000 steps, plus good eats and games? Go you! Enjoy getting ready for your trip to see your daughter and the back to visit your son and his family. It’s awesome that you have nice things to look forward to in the meantime.
Pam I so happy to hear that you all had a blast in spite of the clouds! What a beautiful treat to see the parting of the clouds just in time! I was concerned for all your gardening while you were going. The weather was so weird and crazy here. Enjoy looking forward to enjoying it and our new outfittings. I’m glad that you got some rest and you got enjoy dinner with friends last night. The sun is peeking in and out right now. Enjoy !

Caught a cold somewhere - probably on Friday. I found out last night that I cannot sleep easily with a cold as I am not a mouth-breather. I gave up a bit before 2am and was going to read BUT we lost electricity at 2am so I tried to prop myself up and sleep that way. I have a few hours of sleep but today will be a LONG day!
We talked to our children this weekend and our grandchildren. All are doing well. My daughter and her husband cooked their first meal in the new kitchen and shared photos - lovely kitchen and lovely meal. I hope they buy the bedroom and living room furniture soon so they can move in completely.
I have beans soaking to be cooked in the pressure cooker and will have some for lunch with rice, cabbage salad, salsa, and a garlicky-yogurt dressing. My sister and I have agreed to be accountability partners and will share our menus and points intake daily till and perhaps beyond the time we reach goal weight...again.
Pam: I agree with your sentiments about the region and the world. Wish everyone would figure out how to live in peace and harmony. I doubt it will happen in my lifetime, though. I hope the wind slows down and you are able to enjoy time outside soon. As for dreaming about a trip to Egypt for the eclipse...dreams are splendid things so why not dream a little bit
Gisélle: So nice to see your post. You were BUSY and having fun with the family and am glad all went well. It is no doubt nice to be home and I hope the antibiotics kick in and do their thing quickly. I won't take any for my cold but do wish at times colds had magic pills to take to make them go away!
Karen: Hope you had a splendid weekend!

Hi Everyone! So good to see us all check in! Goals for the next 100 days: Get my step goal Do my Daily/Nightly and Habits Tracker Do my teeth - just coming off periodontal work and would love to avoid surgery! Get outdoors! Cathy, I'm sorry you're not feeling well! I also got almost no sleep last night, until of course it was time to wake up! Ugh! Gisélle, welcome back from all of your travel and family fun! It sounds wonderful and it's so important to be there. I'm also sorry to hear that you & Abel are ill as well! I hope you have a good visit and get started on your antibiotics. Pam, your trip sounded so cool! Being part of a group sharing such an event together is quite an experience. I checked out Egypt. It's pricey and likely to sell out soon, I imagine. It would be an amazing trip. And who wouldn't want to see the pyramids? I see you sitting outside later! And you're right. It's a perfect day! Stay safe there in Lebanon Cathy. Israel is ok for now, but what's to come? How will they handle Iran's attempt on them? What will Iran plan next? Why can't we all just try and get along??The world has become a very scary place. I think if an earthquake happened today I'm not sure that would've been my first thought. Waving to us all!

APRIL 16 My goals for this 100 days are: 📝 Track every BLT ✔️ 🚶♀️ Walk or do some other form of exercise to total 150 minutes per week❔might be waiting on this one till the cold virus leaves 🧹 Clean or tidy or declutter something every day✔️ 🖋️ Use a fountain pen daily or do something creative ✔️ 🇫🇷 Work on French either on Duo Lingo or online reading something in French ✔️ ⚖️ Weigh every morning ✔️ <166> [day two]
Checked in with my sister and we both had on program days. Today I sound like a fog horn or perhaps a bass singer. I slept better last night...hooray. My sister says perhaps we get colds to remind us of how much better we feel without them
We have plenty of leftovers to make into meals with a bit of reheating so won't be doing any major cooking today.
I Heard from the KORU judging of New Zealand authors romance novels for an award that will be given out in August. I have six books to read by the 30th of June and will get that done along with the other books. Current book is confusing but so is the character who just woke up from some adventure that sounds to have gone wrong. Will give it another chapter or two and read some reviews of the book then move on to something more fun, hopefully.
KAREN: I sometimes think about the past when nobody actually KNEW what was happening outside of their own little world. There was no internet, telegraphs and phones were unheard of, and a war wasn't known about till the warriors arrived on your doorstep or you were conscripted. I don't know that things were better then but the news was not in your face 24/7 and perhaps life was more focused on day to day matters. I don't know what will happen in the region. I wish people could play nice together in the world but experience and history seems to say otherwise.

We had a whirlwind of a day on Sunday. Feeling unwell but not wanting to put damper on Abel’s plans for me, I agreed to go to dinner at our favorite place in NYC. I’m so happy we did. We had a wonderful experience that lasted 3 hours. My friend’s daughter was recently hired as their sommelier. She didn’t know that we were coming and she was thrilled to see us. It was so nice to see her all grown up and in her element. Even though yesterday was my birthday I had scheduled an ENT appoint ent for Abel and it’s a good thing I did. He got all of the prescriptions he needs to get his sinus infection cleared up. By yesterday he had hardly any voice left. Afterwards we stopped for lunch at the bakery cafe and headed home. We had a delicious dinner of Shrimp in garlic and white wine sauce with asparagus and risotto. We shared a lemon meringue tart from the café. I must say, 70 feels much better than I imagined it would. 😆 Yoga is back in flow but we have eye appointments today. Time for some new specs. 🤓

Cathy I remember when we used to sit in front of the TV watching Walter Cronkite and others tell us what had happened during war time. Even before then, when my uncle was in the Army and my Mom and grandparents were so worried about getting updates. Now it’s always front and center, repeatedly. Im not sure if that’s better. Six books by June? Wow! I hope the remaining ones will be more upbeat. What are you taking for your cold? Ginger tea with lemon and honey is our family go-to. I hope you feel better today. I’ve finally stopped coughing and my sinuses are clearing up .
Enjoy the day everyone! Waving to all….

exercise/activity tracked GHGs
Hi all! It looks like my last post got poofed. I still don't get how that happens. Quick recap - I threw my back out Sunday afternoon. I had just stepped out of the shower. I know, I can't believe it either. Fortunately, Pat was here and fetched me a few things then got me set up on the couch. I'm still on the couch but, I must break camp today with the electricians coming by. Thankfully, I am improving. Sunday was the absolute worst but, I was glad it happened after I washed up and not before. That would have been miserable. I still have this sense that moving a millimeter this way or that could bring the whole thing down again so, I'm fighting the urge to get back outside. This 3-day weather bonanza we've been blessed with is amazing. My irises started blooming and the tree we planted in memory of my cousin, Eileen, is bursting with buds that could open any second. Sorry if I'm repeating myself here - the tree is a Ruby Falls Weeping Redbud, a small tree with lavender-red flower clusters in spring. Afterwards, it sports perfect purple heart-shaped leaves that turn green in summer. Gorgeous! I made a small memorial plaque from a piece of slate I found in the garage. Not much else to report until I get moving again. Cathy glad you slept better last night. I hope your cold eases and you feel better soon. I think it's wonderful you and your sister have recommitted to the buddy system together. I'm wishing you both lots of success. Continued prayers for safety and calm in your region. The 24/7 news cycle is stressful and a burden I don't think we we're designed to bear well. Hugs! Karen I'm sorry you didn't sleep well. I love your idea of a daily habits tracker! I really need that myself. I hope you can avoid the surgery too, my friend. I looked at prices for Egypt too and it IS spendy. Ugh! Plus all the shots you must get etc. Its a lot to consider on so many levels, not the least of which are my back problems. I think I'd have to get a sleeper pod to travel that distance. It does seem to feel like more of a dream sometimes than a possibility. More coffee... luvvinlife , Happy Birthday! I'm so glad you enjoyed your very special day. I hope you feel better with the antibiotics. Glad Abel got to the ENT and got the meds he needed. Hope he's feeling good soon too. It sounds like you had a wonderful time in NC. Your son really pulled it all together! The celebration must have been awesome with so many of you there together. There's nothing like those family gatherings to fill our tanks. I'm so glad you were both well enough to make it. Congrats on finishing your StepBet! What a great six-week challenge!

Hi everyone! It's another gorgeous day here today! I had a doctor's appointment at 11 and we are going to dinner in Brooklyn - leaving at 6 for a 7 :oo arrival, or thereabouts. we have a later resy but our 3rd says let's meet earlier and maybe they'll seat us sooner. So that's the plan. In the meantime I got my Infection Control course done for my RN license renewal and then once complete I did the reregistration online. I can't believe it's done! And with time to spare. I'm not changing my clothes. I think what I'm wearing is fine. Not dressy but neat and clean. I had the deep scaling yesterday on the L side, both upper & lower. I feel bruised today and the jawline is tender. I will see the periodontist again in 3 weeks. Played MJ yesterday day & evening and played well. Did not make my steps goal Got outdoors Did my Habit Tracker & Daily/Nightly Took care of my teeth So the National Mah Jongg League issues a card every year. It's a trifold and on it are all the hands you can play for that calendar year. So everyone who is playing American Mah Jongg is playing hands from that card. You bring it with you to your game. So everyone playing needs this card. You can order it after 1-1 but it doesn't come in the mail until late March/early April. You would usually play with the 2023 card until all of your group has their new card. I've been using the new card for over 2 weeks now. I like it! I have an extra one too so if someone forgets or doesn't have theirs yet they can borrow it. Happy Birthday Gisélle!! Great celebration too. which restaurant in NYC do you like and visit, the one you mentioned going to recently? I'm sorry you & Abel are ailing. Did you get seen and get a script too? Pam, I'm so sorry about your back! It sounds like you're being really careful and taking good care. he tree you planted in tribute to your cousin sounds gorgeous especially when it first blooms! When I went to South Korea in 2012 I had to get a bunch of shots. It wasn't so bad. Cathy, I'm glad you slept better too! Hopefully it will turn around soon. I'm glad you have food on hand so you don't have to do much in order to eat. At least you have plenty to read! I hear what everyone said about the barrage of news stories and footage 24/7. It's a bit much and often so graphic. They not only told us about the drone strike, they showed us! Information is vital, but I think we've gone a bit further than we need to. Feel better my friends!!

The cold lingers but it will depart on schedule. We have plenty of leftovers to create lunch from. My husband has gone off to buy produce, dairy, bread, and eggs. I finished a book and have another to start and read by the 19th...hope to finish it today so I can read a new one tomorrow.
Gisélle: It sounds like you are on top of health issues for you and your husband. What fun to have a dinner out and have the sommelier a friend who made it extra special! Happy Belated Birthday🎂 I am taking nothing but tylenol for the cold and a bit of loratadine before I go to bed. I could try some ginger and lemon in green tea maybe? No honey in the house. The six books are for the KORU judging. I probably could read a book a day and still be behind in reviewing, though! I will read the book by MJ Crouch by the 19th then see what is up next. There are six books that will archive in less than two weeks so want to at least skim them, too.
Pam: So sorry to hear your back went out but glad it happened after you were finished and there was someone to assist you. As for the posts poofing...I found out that if you hit the square at the bottom of the thread that says REPLY and write in there you have to hit it again or something. Sometimes it is the cyber-gremlins that cause it or I hit the wrong button unintentionally - hate it when it happens, though!

Good day yesterday! Dinner in Brooklyn was really nice though we did not get seated early and had to go somewhere nearby to wait it out. We sat at a table outdoors and caught up and chatted furiously until 8:30. We enjoyed our dinner though did have some criticisms and all agreed we would not return. Very limited menu, been there, done that, and we asked for accomodations in 2 areas and were flatly denied. Our server could have made it look good by at least saying she would go and check with management before just saying no. We wanted a Sicilian red by the glass. She said that it was chilled. We don't like chilled dry red wine. She asked about whether we wanted to get a bottle. We did not. Our friend asked us why she would offer up a room temperature bottle for purchase but not open it to serve us the 2 glasses? Good question. One dessert on the menu - gelato. 6 or 7 flavors. All the same price. I asked if it would be possible to have one portion but 2 flavors instead of 1. She said no. Just no. When we were eating it she asked how it was. We said we didn't care for the olive oil gelato. She suggested mixing it with one of the 2 other flavors we got. Maybe a great restaurant would've said they were so sorry and maybe we would like to try a different flavor. Nope. We just weren't feeling the love. They were also supposed to text when the table became available. They never did and when we walked in it was empty and we just sat down. Earlier would have been better. We got home ~11:30. Almost made my steps Got outside Did my Habit Tracker & D/N Did my teeth Cathy, feel better and happy reading! I hope Mounah got you some honey too! Waving!

Yesterday was a recovery day. We’re both doing much better today. Abel had no voice yesterday andI tried taking it slow so that I wouldn’t cough my lungs out. Finally I called the Dr. back and was advised to take the 6-day Pak that she had prescribed. I must say that today I’m feeling almost human again. We’re excitedly awaiting the birth of Joelle. My daughter is in labor, induced this morning. I can’t wait to see her. It’s amazing how different things are now with technology (when it works well) being what it is. My son was able to FaceTime with them in her pre-op suite.
When are we beginning our next 100 days? Did I miss something? I’m feeling confused. 🤔 I remember making a set of new goals but now I can’t find them so I guess I should revisit them. I know that time spent creatively was one of them. Oh well. Maybe I should stick with what I have.? Yikes!
Cathy, thank you for the birthday wishes. It’s never too late. I still have some plans to celebrate this 7th decade of life, up my sleeve. It’s so cool that you and your sister can be each other’s accountability partners! I’ve also added activities to my accountability list. We’ve both found that it has motivated us to keep up with our steps. I so hope that your cold is on its way out and that you’re feeling brand new! It’s good that you have leftovers so no stress there and you’ve got another book read, a few to go. Karen, thank you for the birthday wishes. I’m still celebrating 🥳 You are really hellbent on getting me into MJ 😂. How does it work if you have different boards at the same game? What do you like about the 2024 board? I wish I knew someone near me who plays. It sounds so interesting to me. Maybe I should add that to my list of goals…. At least your dinner with friends wasn’t a total loss. Abel and I love critiquing restaurants all the time. We went to Daniel’s on Sunday. The service is still impeccable but I had only about 10% of my tastebuds so I truly had to remember that it was about the celebration and the company, and not just the food. 🥴🙄😁 We’ve been going every year since our 1st wedding anniversary. We usually stay over but we had medical appointments the next day. Pam I hope your back is feeling betterer and betterer ! Today’s weather may be just the thing you needed to slow you down a bit. How nice that your Irises are in bloom already?! The memorial Ruby Falls Red Bud tree for Eileen sound beautiful and it will continue to be such a wonderful living tribute to her.
Waves to all 👋🏽

So Gisélle, Mah Jongg has a certain number of tiles - 152 I think? So first you learn to play - the rules, strategies, how to set up, etc. 4 players ideally though you can play 3 with a dummy hand or 2, which is called Siamese. Everyone has their card in front of them. The tiles are given out after the walls are built and the dice thrown by the person who will be East first. Everyone gets 13 tiles to rack, except East, who gets 14. After racking your tiles you look at the card to see which hands would be best to try to play based on those tiles. Everyone has the same card but everyone also has their own tiles to play, like cards that are dealt and you need to make the best hand. Choosing can be tough and along the way you may need to change plans. I have several sets and we generally play with mine since I am on time and always travel with it. I also have the nice rug for the table with makes the tiles lay nicely. It's so much fun and worth learning. Everyone has their own have rack for their tiles and the remaining tiles are stacked in the middle of the card table and you pick when it's your turn. Glad you're feeling better! Got my steps Wednesday but not yesterday Got outside Did my HT & D/N Did my teeth both days Waving to everyone!!

It seems I have not been on the boards, though I thought I had checked in, since the 17th...weird! Anyway...I am here today.
My daughter is finally moving into the house they had built and is going through boxes packed away for almost a decade. She found some "bun warmers" that I wore in high school/college that I gave her when she went to college. I am 72 so they must be at least fifty years old. Anyway, they are in boxes that say Jerome Alexander and are pristine in condition and covered with silk flowers. One has violets and green leaves and the other has a mixture of wild flowers in yellow, white, blue, and red...so pretty. BUT we both have short hair and probably will never wear a bun again so do my granddaughters want them OR should they go to a museum if a museum would want them? Interesting and a fun way to wind down with photos of her first birthday, her father and his mother when she was a baby, and others. Blast to the past and fun to see!
Will be back tomorrow...at least that is the plan
Oh...Duolingo had a but or glitch or something because it kept freezing in the same place three times I tried the lesson. I finally wrote to them to let them know and who knows what the issue was but did manage to get a lesson or two in this morning.
