Good morning, Ruth, I am glad to hear that you did finish DD’s birthday afghan. I am sure she will love it and it’s like getting a hug from you any time she uses it. What crochet project are you working on now? Last I remember you had some hats going and possibly a baby afghan.
CJ- hope that you have a great day and can get back on that pretty quilt you were making with the jelly roll.
Looking forward to getting my machine back…. So that means I will be out and about at some time today.

Today’s crafting…. So far is I am restringing my wind chime. My mom (gone 8 years now) gave it to me about 20 years ago, and the strengths have finally started failing. So I bought a kid on Amazon and I’m about a third of the way through putting it back together. It’s a good memory of her.

Good morning everyone. Most of our snow has melted but there is still some on the porch/small deck and the stairs to it. Weather forecasts here are strange. Online it says that next Wed it will be 79 degrees. On the TV weather report last evening it says that Next Wed will be only in 60's. I wonder which is correct.
Ginny, I do hope you have a really good day. A coincidence I guess that my mom also gave me a wind chime. It must have been about 25 years ago she and my sister were on a trip to Hawaii and she sent me a wind chime that's a shape of a native hut. So far the strings are ok. I have another that I got somewhere that that had the same problem as yours with the strings failing.
Yes I'm working on that "vintage" baby blanket. The yarn I'm using is a discontinued yarn from Herrschners and it's really, really soft. Too bad they don't still make it.

Hello - Hope everyone is having a good day and nice weather. It's still warm and sunny here. Ginny - I'm happy to hear your machine is ready for pick-up and I hope it works great when you get it home. Hope you can get the windchime restringed so can continue to enjoy that gift from your mother I hope you can get to your Temperature quilt soon. I did finish that mantle topper back when I was talking about it. I didn't like how it turned out but it's basically just a pad to put on the mantle for my things to sit on, so I'm O.K. with it. Ruth - I'm glad you are enjoying making that baby blanket with the soft yarn. Those are the projects that I enjoy. Weather is crazy and unreliable I was really happy today that I finally felt like working on some quilting. Last evening I finished the umbrella block and while it's cute, I don't like the fabrics I chose enough to make a pillow with it. And I always make the envelope pillow cases now since it's great to switch them out. I may try the umbrella block with some other fabrics. This morning I finished piecing the table runner I'd been working on and made the binding for it. I just need to find a backing and batting piece and then it can be quilted. Then I made myself cut the fabric pieces for the last two Moda Blockheads blocks, and I'm glad that I did. I really like how these two blocks turned out. While I was still in the mood I cut all my sashing pieces and cornerstones for the layout for this quilt, so now I can get ahead and start piecing some of those. I'm attaching pictures of the two blocks and my layout. The way the blocks are laid out is not the final version of how I'll place them, I need to work on that a bit to spread out the lighter blocks from the darker blocks. I'm just going to put a small inner border (light blue fabric) and a larger outer border (print fabric) around the quilt instead of doing the sashing and cornerstones outside of the blocks. I expect the final quilt top to be either 75x75 or 77x77. Now I need to get back to the Temperature quilt and the jelly roll quilt. I'm going to try to get my half square triangles made for the Temperature quilt this evening. Take care

CJ- glad to hear that you are feeling good about quilting today!! I like the use of that light blue for the sashing, it breaks up the blocks nicely and provides a nice place for the eye to rest. Very nice… Have you ever taken a black and white picture of a quilt layout? Someone suggested that to me years ago and I found it very helpful to see how to better distribute quilt blocks- at least for me. You might have a better technique to do that. Sounds like you are happy with the table runner, if you are going to back it and bind it.
Ruth, that absolutely stinks that the yarn from Herrschnerrs is discontinued. I wonder if you contacted them if they could suggest another yarn that is similar (for future projects!). I have had the same thing happen where 2 different weather sources have very different forecasts. Makes no sense, does it? Hope that your weather ie reasonable…. I must say that the kit I bought from Amazon is not of the same quality and I do not expect it to last nearly as long. The directions were awful, they said there was a video which did not exist. But it’s up and outside….and I can enjoy it for as long as the repair kits lasts.
I did get to Joanns to pick up the Husky. I know that I will not have a chance to play with it until tomorrow…I am just too tired this evening.

CJ,I'm so glad you were feeling like getting back to quilting. And those blocks are wonderful! I love your colors and Ginny is sure right about the light blue shashing being a great choice;
Ginny, again,I hope you can get some rest.

Hello - Hope everyone is having a good day The weather turned cooler here, in the 60s and cloudy. That's a big change from 80 degrees a few days ago. Ginny - Did you get to try out your sewing machine? I sure hope it works well when you do. Ruth - I hope your projects are coming along. Thanks for your kind words on my quilt blocks and layout. I think it will turn out to be a pretty quilt, you can't go wrong with red, white and blue I finished getting my Temperature quilt block for April up to date today. And then I prepared backing and batting for the small table runner I made a few days ago. I hope to get it pinned tonight so I can quilt it tomorrow and put the binding on. I need to get as much done while I'm still in a quilting mood, since it seems like once I lose the mood it's gone for several days. Take care and have a wonderful weekend

CJ- does the house you see are in now have air conditioning? If so I hope it works a great! Hard to believe that we are approaching time of year soon. Think it’s a great idea to quilt and strike while the iron is hot and get the table runner put together and quilted. How are you planning on quilting it?
Ruth- have you heard from the surgeon regarding DH’s blood work?
I worked a lot today….drove a bit this am and then taught the 3 hour pre service class to 2 new monitors that takes 4 1/2 hours to teach. Came home and I am trying to relax…..
Have a good night

CJ, you're sure right about the red, white and blue. I've never seen a quilt in those colors that I disliked. I hope you can get your table runner done before you're not in quilting mode again. I know what you mean about that. It's why dh's blanket is still sitting waiting for me to get back to it.
Ginny I hope you;re having a good day and that the sewing machine works great. Having that do the same as it did before you sent it to have it checked out would definitely mess up an otherwise good day.
I did spend time on the phone again with the uncooperative doctor's office. I spoke to the "triage" nurse (I'd love to have that job). She seems to handle all the incoming calls and passes on info. She was very nice and understanding and obviously passed on the message because the doctor's nurse called me and left a message. Must have been while I was in the kitchen or BR because I didn't hear the phone. She left a message saying that they had sent results to the two doctors that I had asked them to send to. Well that's great but I already knew that and it's not what I asked. So I called again, left another message and haven't heard anything since
I've been crocheting much of the day. With the rows I have left I should have it done in a week except for border and weaving in of the ends of which I will have a lot. It's kind of a pretty little blanket but I didn't measure after I did the chain and it's narrower than the pattern says it will be. If I have yarn left after I finish the rows I want I'll make the border as wide as I can to make up size.
Yesterday I had a little accident. I got up and my leg was "asleep" but I tried to walk anyway and fell. I'm thankful all I hurt was my foot. I could feel it twisting as I fell and felt a little crack so I think I may have broken one of the tiny bones at the side of my foot. It's a little swollen and bruised but not really painful other than when I walk but I don't walk much anyway so no real problem there. There's nothing doctors can do so I didn't bother. I'm just doing what I know they would tell me.I'm just glad it wasn't my ankle and also that I didn't hit my head on anything

I went to bed early last night…super early. Cannot say that I slept a ton last night, but I do feel somewhat well rested. Think what I appreciate most is that I do not have to fly out of the house this morning for anything. I might run one quick errand this morning and then plan on staying home.

OK so am I delusional or does this web site sometimes act wonky? When I posted before (and I did refresh the page) Ruth’s post was not there….
Ruth, so sorry about your foot!!! Yes, I am very thankful that “all” you did was injure your foot- keep your eye on it and please seek treatment if you think it’s going to be helpful or necessary. Guess I am thinking ahead to Dh’s procedure and that at that time a healthy Ruth will be all the more important. Do you have a cane or walking stick in the house? I am just thinking something to provide extra support while you are healing so that you do not injure anything else while the foot is getting better. Glad you were able to speak with the triage nurse…and hopefully she will become an important resource and transfer of information to you. You have had such frustration getting good answers from doctors offices.
CJ- hope that you enjoy a good Saturday and feel like quilting again to get the table runner done.

Hello Ruth - I'm sorry to hear about your fall and I hope that it is doing better today. I'm sure you'll know if you need to get it checked out. I hope you'll get an answer back from that medical office, it's so irritating what you have to go through just to get a bit of information. Ginny - I hope you've been able to spend most of the day at home and that you get to relax after a busy week. I did get the table runner machine quilted - I just did straight line diagonal quilting, which is what I like. I hope to get the binding sewn on later today or at least by tomorrow. Hope you get to do some crafting too. Take care

Ginny, here too. It wasn't until just now that I saw your post from last evening.I'm glad you were able to go to sleep early and despite it not being a continuous peaceful sleep that you do feel more rested.
CJ, than you, also, for the good wishes for my foot. I like the diagonal quilting too. On certain things the quilting can add to the design and, for instance, in baby quilts, it can add to the cuteness but for simple things like table runners etc the diagonal is not only easier to do but also very nice.
My foot is more swollen which is to be expected. Yesterday I limped around and today it actually feels some better. Yes we have a lot of canes in our house and even have a walker. Dh always takes his quad cane when we go out anywhere. He won't use those riding carts in the grocery stores. We do keep an extra cane in the car also.
Last evening I did a couple extra rows on the baby afghan I'm working on. It may be done sooner than I expected. I do need to make up some "kits". I have one made but after dh has his surgery I'll want to be near him so will want all the yarn, etc, for a couple patterns already gathered so I don't have to be in my craft room searching if he needs something.I do have one put together. I did not hear back from the doctor's nurse yesterday after I left the message that I really needed to have the results that were abnormal and the actual values. Guess they were too busy to pay attention to patient and family's requests. The good thing is that they did send the results to both the Neuro and the Ortho and the Ortho did renew dh's med which means that the results of the kidney function tests were ok.HIS nurse called to tell us that.

Happy Saturday!!!
CJ- good to hear that you did get the table runner quilted and that you are pleased with how it turned out!! Hope that you can get the binding on it so that you can enjoy using it!!
Ruth, sorry that your foot is a bit more swollen and sore today- but it’s good to hear that it is feeling a bit better. I know no one wants to use a cane, but I am glad to hear that you have some to use, until it’s all healed up. I will pray that it’s all healed and comfortable before Dh’s procedure. I figured you would make some kits to bring to the doctors offices /hospital. It will be so nice for you to have pre made kits…to make your life easier. Great news that in an indirect manner you found out that Dh’s kidney function tests are ok…I am very thankful that the bloodwork had good results.
I got a little bit of gardening done today after DD and the kids left….some zinnia seeds planted and some lettuce seeds also. I did sprinkle the area with vinegar as I found a chipmunk hole near where I wanted to plant the lettuce…. I heard that chipmunks do not like vinegar…
I did work on the quilt a bit and the machine seemed to work fine. VERY thankful for that.

Ginny,I'm thankful also that our machine seems to be working well. I hope it stays that way.We don't have chipmunks here and I didn't know about vinegar. We heard that peppermint keeps away rodents so sprayed some on our car engine and we still had rodent damage twice.I hope vinegar is successful. For some reason I could never get zinnias to grow. I'm glad too that the kidney function tests were ok but the weren't the ones we wanted to know about. He had two that were elevated six months ago and those are the ones that we thought might be off. He's never had kidney problems or abnormal kidney function tests but the new NSAID that ortho prescribed can damage the kidneys and ortho doctor is the one that wanted them done so I called the pcp office and asked her to add those to her order so that dh could have them all done at once and not have to go to multiple labs and be stuck more than once.
Oh and good news.My neice's husband had his scans and the cancer, although being a usually fast spreading cancer, his has not spread so they plan to do surgery to remove it and then radiation. However in reading about it I found that usually even after surgery and radiation it almost always recurs. Also,my brother told me that his PSA has been much higher in the past so the recent elevation doesn't worry him or his doctor
CJ, I hope you're having a good day and will have a good Sunday also.
