People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Enough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.

Nothing going on today. Been trying to plan meals but nothing sounds good and when I ask Fred for suggestions he says whatever you want to fix is fine with me and I say when I ask what you want I’m looking for suggestions as I’m out of ideas! 🙄

Greetings!
My mother used to say "when it rains, it pours.". That's what's happening to me right now. First the pipe leak that I'm still working through, then the TV in the bedroom went out, and now the pool pump is frozen.
The TV was an easy fix, I think. Gary was here yesterday and he thinks it's the Firestick that went out as the TV goes on but no programming will come up. I ordered a new Fire stick and it should be here in a day or two.
Contact pool people that we get our chlorine from and they'll be here Thursday to check things out.
I'm off today and Thursday. Right now waiting on ServPro to get here. The crew that was here Friday just moved and stacked things everywhere. They said a crew would be here today to restack like I want it as right now they've moved stuff in front of the wall that needs to be replaced.
All this drives me crazy.
Enough of my complaining. Did I read today is moving day for Geri? I hope it goes smoothly for her.
Sandy, I always thought it was hard planning meals for just Jerry and I. I found that was so much easier than planning for one. There are very few recipes for one. And if I fix something and freeze part it just doesn't work for me.

Good Morning Friends!
Never got onto the thread yesterday. Mike took the camper to Old Town and will be gone for a couple of days. My favorite instructor was leading a Body Balance class yesterday, so I decided to go. It was an active challenging class consisting of Tai Chi, Pilates and Yoga. I felt so good afterward!
Have any of you bought black jeans and once you got them home you discovered an awful smell? I cannot tell you how many pair I have bought which ended up eventually going to Goodwill. Online there were two remedies. One: Soak in vinegar and water before washing (that didn't work) and dying blue jeans black (and I didn't want the mess). Yesterday after my class I went to Chico's because I had some gift cards. I found black jeans with no putrid smell. Yay! In fact, I really scored. Between my coupons and gift cards I bought $440 worth of clothes for $40: Black jeans, white jeans and 3 cute summer tops that are silky and will not get those awful holes in the belly.
Pat, Well it sounds like you are done with the problems! It seems like we have to replace our pool pump every year and we don't use our pool that often. But actually we have only replace 3 in the last 10 years. We think the 2nd pool pump of those 3 was not installed correctly or was faulty as it only lasted one summer.
Geri, Yay! You are officially in your townhouse! Try not to work too hard today. It will all get done.

Good morning 🌞.
It's 61°. That's a little warmer than yesterday which was 55 but still a little on the cool side. Still we're going up to the mid-80s today so it should be another gorgeous day.
I am seeing the knee orthopedist this afternoon. The one who did my left knee surgery back in 2021 left the practice. Dr Pepper epper, and "no" that is his real name, took over my care after my surgeon left.
In reality those terrible sharp pains that I was getting seems to have subsided. I may have torn my tendon or something. Still since it took two months to see him I figured I'd go in and have him take an x-ray and figure out if I've got an issue here.
In 2021 when I had the left knee done they x-rayed both knees and said both needed to be replaced. However the right knee really improved quite a bit after the left knee was done. I do walk a half an hour to 45 minutes every day and I think that actually has benefited my knees...
Of course so did losing a lot of weight!
Sam seems to think I'm going to need to do the replacement surgery on this knee at some point and I may very well have to do that. But I'm hoping that it may be a little farther into my future.
Pat my mother used to say exactly the same thing! When it rains it pours! I remember the week that I was moving from my old house the large TV in the family room broke. It was a behemoth and really large but I found somebody that wanted it for parts so I didn't have to worry about getting rid of it during moving week...
But no sooner did that TV break then the one in my master bedroom also broke and then the one in the guest room also broke. I had owned three TV and literally all three of them broke within a few days of each other!
Of course that's not quite as expensive as all of the things that you're going through but I remember thinking that the time what are the odds?
Enjoy your day.

Yesterday's QOTD: Share with us what happened at one or two reunions that you attended in your lifetime. High school? Family? College? Work? Friends? All would qualify. How did it go? Did it make you want to go to more in the future? Did you discover anything you had not known before? Did you make any new connections with those who attended? What feelings about family, school, etc. did you leave with? Did the event change any of your perceptions about the group?' AOTD: I have gone to all of my high school reunions. The best was the last one in 2017 (50 years). I will always go. They are fun. I am now facebook friends with many. A few had said they would connect if they were in Florida, but have not. They did start a monthly lunch and only stopped a few months during Covid and during the summer. I always hear about the lunches and will join them if I am ever in Ohio as I used to work at the grocery store with the organizer many many years ago.
Oh, here is another reunion that was quite fun. Wasband #1 and the kids and I went to Texas in 1984 for the reunion of his military buddies. It was so great seeing these friends we had spent 3 years with. They all had families, so it was fun to meet their families, too. It was one of my favorite vacations when the kids were young. Facebook and the internet was not around then, so we lost touch.
Sharon, Sorry I missed your question yesterday. I have a recipe for crustless Mediterranean Quiche that is out of this world. That and a salad and quick bread (banana or zucchini) make a very satisfying meal that is not too heavy and all goes together quickly.
Continued prayers for peace of Jerusalem.

Welcome home Geri! I hope you’ll just love it there.
Sandy I think meal planning is my #1 most dreaded chore. This week I made menus and will shop for any ingredients I need. I never know what to have for lunch. Don won’t eat a sandwich. I have outside things to do today with little time to make soup. We don’t care for canned.
Ruth I have two pair of black jeans, one newer and neither have a bad smell. What great bargains, I know Gail likes Chicos too. My DD thinks I’d like Jjill. They have a smallish store in Peoria. I might go look sometime.

Another gorgeous day on tap. Was High of 87 here yesterday to be about 82* today. Tomorrow severe storm are a great possibility. Pray they do not materialize just a good rain would be pleasing. Yesterday I put up the hummingbird feeder and while I had things moved away from windows decided to wash them. Not the easiest job when your right shoulder only works about half way so have to devise an extension to get to far corners. Got all 5 window pains in TV room cleaned. They are narrow but long and crank out so I can stand inside to wash them. One is stationary. Left windows cranked open and was soothing to hear the birds singing and chirping. Later in evening went outside and hoed in a flowerbed , will lay mulch there this morning. Also put down 3 bags of mulch at east end of outer building. That bed is now complete with mulch. That is where Steven’s little Buckthorn tree is along side two new hydrangea bushes. Iris, sedium and a perennial of some sort from his mother on one end, a clematis on other end.
The guy came and filled my heating fuel barrel as I was finishing my daily walk. First fill since last August. $425.45 is the cost. They usually come again before winter but I shouldn’t need much then. I sprinkled some of that deer rabbit stuff under the bird feeder last night, didn’t notice any raccoon out there last night when I looked. Will keep watch maybe I won’t need a BB gun. Mail going out in mailbox, cat and birds fed. Rest a bit get a bite to eat then outside as tomorrow won’t be a working day as it town day. Will cool off after tomorrow but not real cold. 50’s and 60’s daytime temperatures.
Geri happy you are in your new home, God’s blessing and enjoy.
Pat yes they do say things happen in threes. I have many times heard “ When it rains it pours”. Much the way I felt last year. I do get the feeling all my appliances and one TV will all go at once as all are likely over 20 years old . Washing machine much older got it in fall of 1992.
I better get something to eat and make use of this day if possible, hoping for rain tomorrow and nothing else.
Enjoy your day whatever you have planned.
Little Ruthie goes to Omaha hospital Wednesday for EKG, ECHO, X-ray and some blood work. Heart cath is rescheduled for May 28 and if surgery it’s booked on June 5th. She has been enjoying many good days. We continue to pray she stay healthy without cold or anything so these events con stay on schedule.

Greetings: Good grief it's Monday! We saw three kid games over the weekend and Bill tipped over in his chair onto the grass. Fortunately it wasn't concrete. We had help getting him up, but he's pretty sore. Used ice packs last night and Tylenol. Still not quite sure what he did. We've used these chairs for over 5 years and that is the first accident!
Going to exercise class this morning.
Working on document gathering for taxes. Extension properly filed by preparer.
Hope all are well.

Strands #43 “This and that” 🔵🔵🔵💡 🔵💡🔵🔵 🟡💡🔵🔵 Had a lot of trouble with this one.
Good afternoon! I slept until almost noon. I went to bed after 2 AM and was up for a bit in between, so I needed it. Ahhh. Feeling good. However, I was out of it when I got up and sent a text to a group of women (instead of my daughter) saying I was checking in and talking about some family stuff. DD just texted me asking why I hadn't checked in. Looked and saw what I had done. Explained it to my friends and got lots of crazy emojis back.
GORGEOUS day here too. In the mid 80s and dry. The tree in my backyard is noticeably greener than yesterday. I must remember to water my potted plants. Nothing planned but a million chores.
Yes, when it rains it pours...biggest example was when my first husband and I moved into the home in which we raised our children. Slammed the door and part of the roof fell off. Next week the oil burner went. Then there was a leak in the upstairs bathroom and we had to replace the tiles. Loved that house, though...
We had a discussion at my read-aloud class yesterday about feeling and expressing elation. It stemmed from a question posed by the author of the book: "How do we know whether Neanderthals weren't happier when making a kill than we are today?" Someone said the only example of people expressing pure joy openly today that he could think of was during sports games. He asked for examples in today's life. I think as I age I am less self-conscious than years ago about expressing strong emotions. When I hear great music at a concert, I whoop and holler; I will get up and dance alone when the mood calls me; sometimes I cry with joy. Sometimes I weep loudly watching a sad movie or opera. Or laugh very much out loud at something funny. When my DD gave birth to my first grandchild and I was in the delivery room, I felt immense joy. Tears flowed...What about the rest of you?
It is obvious that you are joyous about your move, Geri. Wonderful!
Yes, Chico's. They came out with some beautiful things this year. Many florals. I got a dress and shirt I LOVE.
Good luck with the knee, Shragae.
I must begin to tackle those chores.

It’s a glorious day! This morning I raked debris from the perennial bed, deadheaded the narcissus and daffodils, dug up undesirables and cleaned along the rock border. Then I side dressed the emerging plants with worm castings. They are supposed to be organic, high in nitrogen and safe on plants.
I’m sad I haven’t seen the rudbeckia come up yet. That’s black eyed Susan’s and coneflowers. Come to think of it, they had a fungus late summer. That’s my farm report fortoday.
The hummingbird feeder is filled with the homemade food and hung.
Don mowed then we cleaned the patio and table and brought chairs out of storage. I’m exhausted and after a shower I’ll just sit.
I am happy I had the energy to do all this.

Good afternoon!
It's a gorgeous 78 degrees today with lots of sunshine. I had to go up to the hospital earlier for a blood draw so Jerry and I stopped for lunch on the way home. I also decided to put off what I was planning on making for supper tonight. It's such a beautiful day we decided that grilled hamburgers sounded better so Jerry is going to fire up the gas grill tonight. Now I just need to figure out what to serve with them.
Meal planning is one of my most difficult chores too. Because Jerry is so picky, it seems we tend to have the same things over and over. I see all these wonderful recipes that I can't make because Jerry won't eat them. And I get really tired of cooking every night, so I try to make one meal where we have leftovers for a day or two.
I've been a little down for the past few days. My best friend fell and broke her hip and had to have surgery. She's not doing well at all. They transferred her from the hospital to rehab a few days ago, and she's just gone downhill. She's not eating and she sleeps all of the time. I talked to her sister a little while ago and she said PT worked with her today and after 20 minutes she was completely exhausted. She's been through a lot with surviving Stage 4 ovarian cancer 6 years ago followed by a brain tumor 4 years ago. I'm so worried she might just be giving up.
Sharon, I haven't gotten our hummingbird feeder out yet but I need to do that and make some nectar. I just checked the 10 day forecast and we're going to be back in the 50s next weekend, so I'll probably wait at least another week.
