Good morning. 41, clear, going to 69, after a high yesterday of a beautiful 75.
Gareth, with most of the places around here having a very good menu, it is not hard to find something that is not very expensive, but that is really relative, as all the meals are more expensive that a few years ago. The wildlife sanctuary was packed! With the weather so gorgeous, lots of families, but hard to find a parking spot. We managed to put on 2.5 miles, and Tony, who had not been there for many years was very happy he could go there and get his walking in, in such a beautiful place. I think we will be just good friends, as that is how he wants it, plus he does have 2 other women close friends. But he did make it clear he wants to do things with me. I feel like my DH has been brought back to life, as Tony has so many health issues, just like my DH had. I was too tired to uncover the a/c when I finally got home, to use it, so I put my little fan in the window with it blowing my way, good enough for last night.
Pinky, hasn't the weather been so gorgeous? I will have to look when I get in the shower to see if I got a little tan yesterday. Yes, I too would love to know what a twin home is. I have not heard that before. Glad your niece was able to make the funeral, and that compared to the original date, the weather was good.
Carol, that's interesting about your DS ordering like that. Was that when they were kids? If DH and I would pay for dinner, I never noticed what the others ordered, so nothing was said about what or why they ordered what they did. I had to chuckle to your reply about the baby shower!!! Haha, you think like I do. But I have to say, after we were all done at the sanctuary, we went out for a late lunch/early dinner, and with the meals we ordered, you get dessert, and I passed on mine. Just did not care what was included.
Robin, thank you, besides the fact I wore the wrong shoes to walk the trails (I had a feeling I would pay for it, but I did not want to wear the shoes I wear to work every day, so wore my keds), it was a beautiful afternoon, and most of the city had the same idea, lol. Thank you, about my DGD. Your pictures on FB were beautiful. Maddie is so expressive in photos. (The camera loves her!) Too bad about your DH but doesn't surprise me, it may have been a bit too soon to be away from the comfort of his home. With going through so many surgeries with DH, I bet he would not have gone to that.
Anngie, Howie's divorce was from his second wife, not Brian's mother. And both Brian and Howie were celebrating, because wife #2 came between them over the years, supposedly she was a real piece of work. Brian is just so happy to have his dad back in his life. Thank you, yes, I enjoyed the walk, even with all the other people/families there. I have never seen it so packed. If we go out with just another couple, we ask for separate checks. Unless it was prearranged for some reason one couple was paying the whole bill. I almost ordered a steak the other night, as I have not had one in years, but eating beef is just something I do not want to do. Speaking of a/c, I may have to uncover the bedroom unit today. Not sure, but I do not want it warm in there.
Tony made it clear that he will keep the 2 other women in his life, which I am happy he did (made it clear). I understood what he was telling me, but he does want us to be friends, which is fine with me. But I will stay on the dating app.
Today starts me hauling things to the resale shop, after work. Nice day today, with rain moving in later tomorrow, lasting through Wednesday, with us hopefully getting a good amount, which is really needed, as our fire alert is high.

Karen, with Tony's health issues it's probably better you just stay friends anyway. I guess the trouble with finding anyone anymore in that age range there will be health issues. You just don't want to end up being a caregiver. We have such a beautiful trail system here that we don't walk anymore because of all the people.
Pinky, thanks for your take on The Berry Pickers. I'm liking it so far too.
Robin, DGD so far is staying healthy since that last bout of strep. Thanks for asking.
85Âş yesterday. Another nice day today and then severe storms and 60's tomorrow. We need the rain not the storms.

Karen, sounds like you had a great day yesterday. Are the female friends that Tony has women he has known for long, or are they also ones he has become friendly with the recently? How will he decide who he will do what with? If they are long time friends who happen to be women, I think it's different. And if not, why was he staying on the dating page? As long as he is paying, and is close by, as we say "geographically desirable", then accept his invitations on your terms. It really depends on the situation with the other women I think. Sounds like DSIL, or I think he is future DSIL, right, is happy when he can spend time with his father. I take it they were estranged for a while when he was with #2. Is his mom still around?
Today is a beautiful day here. It was really very nice here yesterday too, although there was some rain, but it was off and on, and all after we got home. Today it will get up to the high 70's. I hope by the time I get home I will have the energy to walk the dog longer, and he has too. The place I leave him now has a doggie daycare, and that's what the dogs do during the day, so my dog is probably tired.
DH is still getting used to what to eat. There are so many conflicting diets around, and how do you decide which to follow. I have small containers of cottage cheese and peaches in natural juice that I can bring to the office. Pineapple is not good, and the fruit cocktail is not. I will make a meatloaf today for dinner. I think I can make my regular recipe because I use plain canned tomato sauce that does not have seeds. While he has a flare up, he shouldn't eat seeds or nuts, but once that calms down, which won't be until after he has the surgery I think, they are now saying he can eat them. I think the internet gives us too much information. I think that is what is making DDIL1 and DS crazy about Jordi, she is a peanut, and just lost some weight because she was sick, so only weighs 13 lbs, which is maybe into the 1 percent range. I know they look at what is written about this. She looked much better yesterday in a few pictures they posted of her. When I got there Friday she had that look of a sick baby, but yesterday morning she drank more of her bottle, so maybe really better, plus she is teething.
Karen, thank you about Maddie. She has become much different about having her picture taken, and will pose for the camera. DDIL's company does not have a children's division, but if they did, maybe she would put together a portfolio for her. She only works on print campaigns for her models. There was one picture of Maddie from a few months ago that I really think belongs in a magazine. And here's an interesting thing, DDIL2 got promoted, so she is now director of her division, which is brand awareness for the cosmetics company Glossier. They are an online only company. So, she can hire DDIL1's models for campaigns. They promote a lot on Instagram and TikTok.
I am really enjoying my book. It's broken into parts. Part 1 was interesting, I enjoyed reading it, but didn't really have me totally hooked. Part 2 really has me even more. The book is The House of Doors, and takes place in the early 1900's. It's a historical fiction about the life of W Somerset Magham, and also a couple he is staying with there, with a little Sun Yat Sen thrown in. It takes place in Panang, Malaysia.

Gareth, what you were saying about Tony, and the health issues, that was really what I was trying to say about the 70+ age range, they seem to come up more often. Glad your DGD is doing OK. I used to say with my kids I was happy when it was strep because at least an antibiotic could get rid of it. I have The Berry Pickers on hold, and still have quite a while for it.

Karen – I missed something. Who is Howie? Sounds like the outing with Tony went well (I’m not going to call it a date because it sounds like dating is not what you are doing with him). It sure was a beautiful day.
Robin – sounds like the weekend was fun. Has dh been referred to a dietician or nutritionist to help him figure out what to eat? The most important lesson I got when I was sick was don’t get medical information from the internet! You will only see the worst stories and, like you said, conflicting information. Congrats to ddil on her promotion.
Mostly quiet weekend here. I went to synagogue Saturday morning and had a meeting there on Sunday morning. Beautiful weather but it didn’t even occur to me to go out and do yard work! It’s still cool at night and the bees are still sleeping I think. Maybe not. I saw one on my mailbox. I managed to get to Kohl’s, Marshall’s, and Target to return those sports bras I bought. We have been waging war against big black ants in our house and I told dh he has to do something about them this week. I looked for diy ant killer on the internet and one of the things it said is vinegar so I stuffed some vinegar soaked paper towel in the holes we think they are coming from this morning. Hopefully I won’t see anymore but that is probably too much to ask for! We barbecued burgers last night - first of the season - and dh didn't buy the buns he was supposed to buy at the grocery store. He picked up the torta rolls he likes at Costco and figured he could have his burger on that, called me to tell me and I said I wanted a bun, then he forgot to buy them. So I saved myself some calories I guess.

Marsha, I told DH that he needs to get a recommendation for a nutritionist. They could have said something to him about it, but he glossed over it and didn't mention it to me. Sorry you missed your bun on your burger. Do they have groceries at your Target? I find things like bread, and many of the basics, to be much cheaper there. I know you can wait until tomorrow for Karen to answer, but I think Howie is future DSIL's father. That's what I figured from the conversation seeing as I know he was taking them to dinner.

Robin - my Target is in the strip mall a few stores down from my grocery store so if we were to go back there for the buns I'd go to the store. The store has the buns I like and the contain no dairy. And of course dh runs his errands at the end of the day and I had a call scheduled with my 2 bff's about our trip so I didn't have time for either of us to go back out. I realized I could actually taste the burger better without the bun and I may switch to bunless burgers in the future. I do like target for several things that are cheaper there but dh doesn't like to make the extra stop so as long as he is in charge of groceries, we make a list and he goes to one store. Thanks on who Howie is. I made my passover shopping list and now I have to decide whether to send dh on Friday so I have everything in the house by the weekend, or go on my own Saturday. I will probalby send him then I'll have to send him back when I realize there are more things I need.

Karen, it’s good that he leveled with you. It’s in your court now. I agree, though, why not keep him as a friend - someone to do things with you but still stay on the dating site. Well, it’s no wonder Howie was happy about his divorce! I’ve often heard of second and third wives or even husbands interfering with “first” families. It’s such a shame, and everyone’s miserable of their own making. Gareth is right, at this age there will be health issues - some big and some small - but most of us have something! Be careful hauling those boxes.
Gareth, glad to hear DGD is taking healthy. This makes me think of your DGS and how his stomach issues have been?
Robin, I agree, the internet truly does give us too much information. And unless we’re trained to interpret it, it can take on a life of its own. Both of my DGSs were in the low percentile for weight. The oldest one especially. He’s gotten quite tall for his age but not any heavier. They eat well and their meals consist of all the good foods - but they also snack continuously on anything they want. And they’re still thin! I think they allow all these snacks in hopes that they’ll gain weight. Congrats to DDIL on her promotion!
Marsha, those ants are terrible to get rid of. It seems we once had a DIY “recipe” too so I’ll see if I can locate it and let you know.

Karen, I think the friends relationship with Tony sounds nice. I guess he'll figures what each friend likes and takes them to that. For instance, if one of the friends doesn't like going to the movies, he could take one of the others. There is a large friend group at church which is mostly older women with a few men and they do things together as a group, but sometimes one man and a woman will do something with just the 2 of them. It took me a minute to figure out who Howie was, too.
I think Jordie's doctor would say something if he was concerned about her weight. Some babies are just petite and grow up to be petite adults.
Around here getting separate checks doesn't seem to be a problem. That is what we do when we go out with someone else.
I don't know why DS was like that with what he ordered out to eat. When I was growing up, we didn't have a lot of money and it seemed like anytime I or my sisters mentioned buying something, my parents especially my dad would automatically said, "we can't afford it." We tried to be careful not to say that so we didn't tell DS we couldn't afford the steak if he wanted it. He would also wear clothes until they were absolutely falling apart. We didn't encourage that. So who knows why?
Marsha, sorry about the ants. They are a pain to get rid of. I hope the vinegar works.

It is 72 degrees and terribly windy again today. Rain to start this evening so it is somewhat overcast also.
A twin home is a glorified duplex, two homes built together. One of my other sisters also live in a twin home and it too is very nice but they only have 1 level so no basement and a bit more simpler than my older sisters. Hers is just really large and seems like a big house. Sister #1 (who's DH just passed) has all this old beautiful bedroom sets and some furniture that she had gotten cheap over the years and she refinished them. When it came to downsizing and moving out of their house they had by the lake she didn't want to part with the furniture so wanted a big place. At their twin home now it is in a community that all snow removal and lawn mowing is taken care of for you so that was the draw for them then.
I finished The Berry Pickers this morning and really liked the ending and looking back it is a very good book.
Karen---yes the weather has been gorgeous. I am glad that Tony was totally honest with you about the other 2 women so that is all in the open. It might be fun to have a walking companion and someone to do things with once in awhile. That is great that Brian and Howie have become close again.
Gareth----Hope you continue to like The Berry Pickers.
Robin---My sister with diverticulitis/diverticular disease had always avoided seeds, nuts etc even when there has been no flare up. She always said that was because when you eat those types of things that cause problems the seeds and nuts can get into these pockets in the colon that have been created by diverticular disease and at that point causes an infection or diverticulitis as it is called. That is the way I understand it anyway. About Jordi-----does her pediatrician seem concerned about her size or see it as a problem or are the parents just concerned and reading too much into it?
Marsha----Hope the vinegar solves the ant problem. How was the trip planning when you visited with your 2 friends last night. I lots of times just have the hamburger with out a bun----it is a lot less filling especially if you are eating something else with it.
Anngie----yes it is crazy how thin kids can be but many times when they become adults the metabolism isn't there anymore so they tend to put on weight. Of course sometimes that never happens either. My DH weighs at lease 100 pounds more since we got out of high school and he could stand to loose 25-30 pounds but he was always a skinny kid. He weighed 135 pounds when we graduated and at 6 feet 1 inch tall that is a stringbean.
Carol---Around here too it is not hard to get separate checks are not hard to get either. I notice when we are traveling in the larger areas they always put it all together and some waitresses/waiters act like it is a problem to separate them while most are happy to do that. I have never figured out why they assume they should put it all together actually.

Pinky, that is what they always said about what is actually diverticulosis if it is not inflamed, that you had to stay away from nuts and seeds, but everyone says that more recent research shows that there is no truth to that. We have friends who both have it, and always say we can't serve anything with nuts, and even she told me that's not really true any more. This comes from everywhere from the Mayo Clinic, to the NIH. It seems to have no effect on a flare up at all, but they surely used to say that.
I think I have figured out what a twin home is. It's what we would call an attached house, where the person only owns one half. With a duplex, or what we call a 2 family, the person owns both units, and either owns them as an investment property and rents out both units, or lives in one and rents one. My friend I often meet for dinner has a 2 family, so she has a Tenant that helps to pay for her expenses. In NY they also have row houses, and I know they have them elsewhere too, where there are a number of homes attached, and each person owns one section of the row.
I really don't know if the pediatrician was really worried, or if it was what DDIL heard from what she said. She has never been one who drank a lot of milk. Of course when DDIL nurses, she can't tell, but she always had to nurse her for a long time. She also always pumped, so they would give her bottles. They did the same with Maddie, only Maddie would almost always finish an 8 ounce bottle. With Jordi they are happy when she has 4 1/2 ounces. She was only having 2 1/2 ounces when she was sick last week. She eats food, and eats all kinds of things, but is not a big eater, and doesn't seem to really favor one thing over another. Of course we all know that one day she will have to worry about her weight!
