Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

New Challenge: CARING April 1 - May 31
āYour body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care" - Buddha
This challenge is about caring about and for yourself. So often we get caught up in taking care of everyone else that we donāt give ourselves the care we need. Or we give up caring about ourselves. A variety of reasons and for no reason, it just happens. The hard part is to recognize it and once you do, it is hard to explain because very few want to acknowledge it. You get kudos for taking care of others, not so much for taking of yourself. Not caring about yourself can leave an emptiness that you may try to fill with food and alcohol. The emptiness remains, just stuffed down. We want and need more for ourselves. So letās begin!
Treat yourself the way youād treat someone you love.
Love yourself first and the rest will follow.
Focus on health and well being
So how do you begin to care about yourself?
Eating fruits and vegetables sounds like a plan. So does drinking water!!
Walking up a flight of stairs without gasping for breath. Your heart will thank you.
If you donāt want to be AF then restrict the amount and limit the days you will allow yourself a drink. But remember if 10 is not enough, one is too many.
Start with baby steps. Making too many changes at once can be discouraging so start small. Have you been slacking on flossing daily? Then start making it a ritual. Do you drink soda for energy? Start cutting back by one.
Treat yourself to something you enjoy. Buying the store brand face cream will sit on the counter. If you have a favorite, budget it in as a necessityā¦.better than buying alcohol! Maybe getting a manicure or pedicure is important to you yet you deny it for yourself. Ask yourself why.
Make a list of indulgences that arenāt food or alcohol and start sprinkling them into your life.
Ask for what you need. Too many times we get into a funk and we donāt ask for help. You are loved and we want to help each other.
Curb all the justification. Sometimes you just have to do something because you want to do it. You donāt have to explain yourself!
Think of your successesā¦.add three things that went well today to your daily journal. What?? you arenāt journaling? Journaling is caring!
LET THE CARING BEGIN!!

DH & I took the golf cart to the nature trail to walk, I may have to break out the shorts soon, it's getting hot. When we got back I started a load of laundry, had lunch, puttered around until time to go for my eye exam. All good there, got a prescription for new glasses, but the doctor said I could wait on them if I wanted. Cataract in left eye has not grown. When I was done, I checked out a few stores in the plaza, bought 3 floppy hats at Ross, one will go with me on the trip. Then I went to Walmart for a few things and look at all the pretty flowers. I had read on FB that the Snickers protein bars were good, so I picked up a box. They're almost 9 bucks for 4 of them, very chewy, taste funny. But it was filling, with 20 grams of protein. I probably won't buy them again. When I got home it was after 4, had some couch time. DH grilled salmon for dinner. I messaged with the customer who wanted stitched a American flag, I had made one on 10 gauge canvas, one on 7 gauge, she wants them both. I finished the whip stitching on the 2nd one, so they are ready to go. Then I finished the stitching on Santa #3. I was able to fall asleep easily and slept pretty well.
It's cloudy today and is supposed to be a little cooler in the lower 80's and possible thunderstorms this evening. DD has a dentist appointment at 5. I plan on getting more stuff done in the yard. It looks like there are some zinnias popping up in last year's bed, so need to get some more seed down.
Jan- Yay for going to WI, being done with work for this ear, progress with weeding, trimming, spreading mulch.
Cathy- Sorry you are still hosting the cold virus, glad you can sleep at night.

April 22: April 29: May 6: May 13: May 20: May 27: End of Challenge, May 31: Good morning all. Had a nice day yesterday. Iām putting in my WI from this morning and will have to keep working to make it match next weeks WI, or be less than that! Itās been raining, thundering, lightning all evening and supposed to continue with the rain today. Iām telling myself I will get to the Y, even if itās for 10 minutes! Baby steps. Will just do the treadmill or walk laps today. Maybe a few leg machines,. I can feel my wrist and arms from pouring bags of bark so resting them for today. After, I will head to Aldi or Pick and save to get a few things. DH need coffee and 1/2n1/2. I want a pineapple, lettuce and some apples. We have LO stir fry and extra chicken I cooked up last night so will use some of that for a dinner, maybe Caesar salad. This afternoon will be knitting, maybe some puzzle time, reading or just hanging out and enjoying not going to work ha ha. The girl from work that is going to watch the cats during our trip is going to come over after 5 when sheās done work and get the low down. Just keeping a positive mindset that it will all work out and she can stay a few of the days so the cats donāt get so crazy. Just something I donāt want to have to worry about while Iām gone. When we had the dog, she would just go to boarding and I at least knew they were responsible and she was safe. Weāll see how it all works out. Guess I better get moving, make some breakfast and get to the Y. If I get it done, less time to think of excuses why I canāt go . Have a great Hump Day all. Jan Cathy Sorry the cold virus is lingering on. Hope by next week you can get back out to see your friends. Sounds like you have plenty to choose from for LO meals. We cleaned out most of the extra junk this morning to take out on garbage day. I bit better, only some old stroganoff and some gooey spinach had to go. Amy Yay for a good day, no cataract growth, floppy hats and I'm happy you said the Snicker's bars aren't that good Now I won't have to try. How many points are they supposed to be? I eat the Quest and even tho the texture is chewy, they seem to do the trick. I can eat 1/2, 1-2 points depending on the flavor, and it does fill me up if I wait a few minutes for it to register. Still spendy tho. Glad you got the flags done and the lady wants them both. Are the zinnias just ones that planted themselves? Cindy Safe travels to Dallas and back. Hope the infusion goes well and you feel good afterwards.

Hi girls! I just canāt tell you how good it feels to feel good! I didnāt realize how miserable I felt the last 2 weeks, until I felt better! Looking back, I almost wonder if I had Covid again. Whatever, itās gone now! Yesterday it was so good to get back to the Y and the pool, and to bell practice! Monday I rolled over 2 points, and yesterday 4. Today I was down the 2 pounds I gained last week. My girl came and cut my hair this morning, then I went to Bible Study, then out to lunch with a friend, then went walking with friends! What a great day! I was going to choir tonight, but it was canceled because of tornado warnings. Tomorrow is the Y again, then maybe some shopping. Then DH and I are going to Jackās game. I only got to watch him once last year because the heat bothered me so much. I hope thatās not the case this year!
Amy: You havenāt gotten your shorts out yet? I have! Have you bought anything new for your trip? Will it be warm over there? Iāve been ordering new tee shirts. I figure I can wear them with either leggings or my shorts. I need to get a new pair of sandals and tennis shoes. Oh, and a floppy hat! Can you tell Iām excited?
Jan: Welcome back to retirement! I would imagine it feels good to be able to just sit and knit! Iām anxious to hear what you did at the Y. Would it help to join a class? When are you leaving? Is this the camping trip the National Park?
Cindy: I hope you didnāt have any trouble today! I sure hope youāre feeling better too!
Cathy: Hope your cold goes away quickly!
Itās dinner time. No rollover today. I had a homemade egg McMuffin for breakfast, soup and salad for lunch along with an apple and yogurt when I got home. Tonight DH is grilling chicken leg quarters, air frying fresh potatoes, and trying out corn on the cob from Walmart. By the time I have a snack, my points will be gone. š But Iām in control again, and thatās what counts!

Hi All!
Not checking in as I wished. Traffic cooperated going to Dallas, infusion went well...many people had cancelled...and trip home wasn't bad. Talked to my RA Doc about another shot but we both felt a bit too soon. Tell that to my achy breaky knee. But it is better.
We did talk about depression and when the body doesn't cooperate, it can be very discouraging. Won't go into details about my body, lol, but it all made sense. Lord I feel old.
So with all that, love reading your posts, and fingers tightly crossed, I will figure myself out for tomorrow.
Hugs, Cindy
