Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

New Challenge: CARING April 1 - May 31
āYour body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care" - Buddha
This challenge is about caring about and for yourself. So often we get caught up in taking care of everyone else that we donāt give ourselves the care we need. Or we give up caring about ourselves. A variety of reasons and for no reason, it just happens. The hard part is to recognize it and once you do, it is hard to explain because very few want to acknowledge it. You get kudos for taking care of others, not so much for taking of yourself. Not caring about yourself can leave an emptiness that you may try to fill with food and alcohol. The emptiness remains, just stuffed down. We want and need more for ourselves. So letās begin!
Treat yourself the way youād treat someone you love.
Love yourself first and the rest will follow.
Focus on health and well being
So how do you begin to care about yourself?
Eating fruits and vegetables sounds like a plan. So does drinking water!!
Walking up a flight of stairs without gasping for breath. Your heart will thank you.
If you donāt want to be AF then restrict the amount and limit the days you will allow yourself a drink. But remember if 10 is not enough, one is too many.
Start with baby steps. Making too many changes at once can be discouraging so start small. Have you been slacking on flossing daily? Then start making it a ritual. Do you drink soda for energy? Start cutting back by one.
Treat yourself to something you enjoy. Buying the store brand face cream will sit on the counter. If you have a favorite, budget it in as a necessityā¦.better than buying alcohol! Maybe getting a manicure or pedicure is important to you yet you deny it for yourself. Ask yourself why.
Make a list of indulgences that arenāt food or alcohol and start sprinkling them into your life.
Ask for what you need. Too many times we get into a funk and we donāt ask for help. You are loved and we want to help each other.
Curb all the justification. Sometimes you just have to do something because you want to do it. You donāt have to explain yourself!
Think of your successesā¦.add three things that went well today to your daily journal. What?? you arenāt journaling? Journaling is caring!
LET THE CARING BEGIN!!

Wow, what a difference. Of course it pretty much cost a paycheck but I'm really happy with the color and the length, kind of a short bob. I just never think about doing that kind of thing for myself, always go cheap but sometimes I need to actually be nice to myself The lady massaged my scalp, did a hand massage, who knew Probably gave her a way too big tip, if there is such a thing. Came home and made an enchilada bake, even tho I'd had a taco salad for lunch. What we had in the house and it worked out fine. Sis liked it and may take the recipe home. We are going to get moving this morning and head off to the craft store up in Steven's point. then some exploring and lunch out again somewhere. How did the dinner with the friend go? Did the GF leave him already or are they just breaking up. Have fun watching your momma dove. Hopefully she'll stay safe and the babies will arrive soon. Waving hi. Need to get moving. My excuse for now is my Fitbit is charging. Seem like it needs to charge every 2 days, used to go longer than that I think. Hmmmm.

DH & I took the golf cart to the nature trail yesterday morning to walk. Lovely breeze for it. When we got back I got busy cleaning the bathrooms, ugh. But they look good, so yay for that. I had couch time and we got a Philly sub from the food truck to split. Also some tater tots. After dinner I watched a Netflix movie and stitched on Santa #4. I finished a book while taking a bath, started a new one in bed. Lights were out by 12:30, I fell asleep easily and feel like I slept more than the 6.5 hours that Fitbit is telling me.
I had ordered some patio chairs from Amazon that arrived around noon yesterday. Some (lots) assembly required. DH did it mostly on his own, but I helped some. They are for the porch where DD hangs out, the old ones were worn to the point of your butt being in danger of falling through. Today is her birthday, we put them out this morning, it will be a nice surprise for her.
It's partly cloudy and it rained some early this morning. There is a chance of rain all day, hoping we can go to the farmer's market this morning. We're going out to a new Mexican restaurant this evening for DD' birthday. Need to get DD a birthday cake from Publix. When I was lying in bed this morning and turned on my back I realized my right heel was hurting in the Achilles area. It hurts a bit to walk on it, hopefully it goes away as the day goes along.
Jan- WTG steps 11/11, PU, stretches, tracking, AF, lots checked off your list. Glad you can see better with your new glasses. I am familiar with Herschnerr's and have ordered from them several times, didn't realize they had a physical store. Your teacher dreams sound like my nurse dreams, mine usually involve being late handing out medication.
Cindy- It's very cool that the mourning dove has nested in your pot, I have no advice to give. So sorry about the difficult time your friend is going through with her DH, glad you could have lunch with her. Also sorry about DS's fall and his broken bird friend. Sounds like he is better off without the girl. Glad you enjoying Shogun. I go back and forth about taking my laptop on the trip. If I do, I can start the board while we travel. Since I'll be 5 or more hours ahead, it will be like when you used to start the board around midnight, LOL.
Carole- Sorry the jig is up with Alexis' cat. Hopefully Jeff settles himself down and it all works out. Yay for being able to count the days left to work.

Jan- WTG steps 10/11, PU, stretches, blue dot, AF. Yay for going to knitting and loving your new do. Sounds like it was worth the $$$. The enchilada bake sounds good. Have fun with your sis today. It is the last Friday night get together before the trip, we leave on Wednesday. The neighbor across the street has offered to water the garden while I'm gone, hopefully the sprinklers that go off twice per week will be enough and DD can keep the inside plants alive. Sorry you have to charge your Fitbit so often.

Hi girls! I went to Red Lobster after Jackās game, looked at all my choices, and even had enough points for a cheddar biscuit and rolled over 3 points! I told DH, looking back I realize how much I was not paying attention since my birthday and always going for the sweets. Tonight weāre eating at a sports bar and after looking at their menu, I think I will be having a grilled chicken salad instead of a big chicken sandwich with fries, which is what I would usually get. Tomorrow we are having pizza and salad for lunch, and will be stopping for the frozen custard or sherbert, which is nonnegotiable! Iāll be leaving here soon to do something shopping before going to DDās. Itās going to be a GREAT weekend! š
Amy: People always talk about shaving their legs. My few hairs are very light and I donāt usually even notice them until they get long! š Happy Birthday to DD! Enjoy!
Jan: A new do with a massage! I told my girl thatās the only thing I miss about going into the shop, was them washing my hair! But not enough to schedule an appointment! Itās so much more convenient having her come to my house! Enjoy the time with DSis!
Cindy: Yay for having the mourning doves! I love watching the birds out the window! So sorry about DSās fall! He was looking for wolf spiders or actually saw one?
Carole: I forgot how long baseball games could be! š Jackās team was ahead by 12 and then the other team woke up. We still won, but it was a looooong game! š
Iām off! See you on the flip side!

Hi All,
It is exhausting dealing with a broken bird. DS's friend's Mom committed suicide when he was 21, he found her. The woman he has supported for the last six years is leaving him and taking her child (but of course) with her though he and the child have bonded. Umm, on an upbeat note, he loved dinner and I sent a lot home with him. I can make more for DS and myself. I feel badly but was glad he decided to go home. A neighbor is an Uber driver and took the "fare"...not sure of the wording. It was a lot!
Vicki, DS saw the wolf spider and tried to kill it. He did kill it but lost his balance. The "funny part" is the bruising is on each rib....bruise, space, bruise, space....if that makes sense. I'm loving watching the dove and the mourning doves that are hanging about...they are such loving birds. Enjoy a wonderful weekend!! Memories being made!
Carole, hope the kitty is doing well...can Lexie wrap her Dad around her finger so to speak? How bad are Ty's allergies? Yay for vacation from job coming up soon!
Amy, I would be packing and unpacking at this point. Make room for purchases! Don't you just love advice that you already know, lol! You brought back memories of starting at midnight..maybe I should start that! Hope you are getting lots of sleep and can sleep on the plane! Is DH a good sleeper? Happy birthday to DD and hope she enjoyed the new patio furniture! Hope the restaurant was great as was the cake. How is your heel feeling? Hope it worked itself out.
Jan, glad that you had a wonderful time at the salon. When once upon a time, a long, long time ago, I went to an Aveda Salon and as the master stylist cut my hair, a person would come and massage my hands. I'm so glad you had a great experience. Mongolian ground beef worked out great and I was happy to send home a lot with him. He definitely needs to eat.
I went to bed at midnight and didn't fall asleep until 4:30 and up at 8:30...been dragging a bit....thanks to coffee, kept functioning. Hope to sleep better tonight.
Hugs, Cindy
